00:00This woman's personal style comes from a completely different time.
00:06Her look, her home, her car.
00:08Nearly her entire life calls back to a bygone era.
00:14Hello, my name is Kitty, and I live each day as if it were the 1960s.
00:19We want to know all about her extravagant lifestyle,
00:23why she loves items others might consider old junk,
00:26and find out if she even uses a smartphone.
00:30Kitty lives in Gelsenkirchen in western Germany.
00:35Her house is furnished from top to bottom like a museum.
00:38From the television, record player, to the washing machine,
00:43everything is from the past and still in mint condition.
00:48I can't have a washing machine from 2025.
00:51I wouldn't like the design at all.
00:54The kitchen is from the early 60s, and I want appliances that match,
00:58in terms of design and manufacture year.
01:01I really enjoy using them, and it's exciting.
01:05How does it work? Does it still work?
01:07What noises does it make? Does it clean the laundry?
01:11So, how and when did Kitty's love affair with this era begin?
01:14My love for the 60s started with music.
01:22When I was little, I was allowed to listen to my parents' records
01:24every Sunday on my grandmother's record player.
01:29And somehow, through the music and the things I was allowed to watch on TV,
01:35for example, I got to watch I Dream of Jeannie every day.
01:38I fell a bit in love with that era, even as a child.
01:44Kitty's enthusiasm for the 60s is also evident in her dressing room.
01:48Her closets are crammed with clothes and accessories from that era
01:52that have held up surprisingly well.
01:55The quality is definitely very good,
01:59because you can still wear them even though they're 60 years old or more.
02:02The workmanship alone is much better compared to today's clothes.
02:08The seams are much wider,
02:09which makes it easier to alter them,
02:11which I sometimes do.
02:13The cut fits the figure well.
02:16There are completely different sewing tucks and darts,
02:18so different body parts get emphasized.
02:21All in all, it's just better.
02:25Kitty's retro lifestyle doesn't stop at home.
02:28She also drives a 1965 VW Beetle.
02:32I always wanted a Beetle.
02:37I love this car,
02:38and I would never trade it in.
02:40No way.
02:46Kitty's taken her passion for this era to her place of work.
02:50Her salon in Düsseldorf
02:51is also furnished with original appliances from the 1960s.
02:57In principle, they function just like a new one.
03:01They work the same way.
03:02It doesn't take any longer.
03:04In theory, you can repair anything.
03:06There aren't any plastic parts that could break after the warranty expires,
03:09so it's repairable.
03:11You can restore it.
03:12It's just like a car.
03:15In addition to trendy, modern haircuts,
03:18Kitty and her business partner Jette
03:19also specialize in, unsurprisingly, retro hairstyles.
03:24Which one do they enjoy more?
03:26That's a rhetorical question.
03:27Just guess which one we find more fun.
03:31No, that's not true.
03:32Of course, we enjoy doing all hairstyles.
03:35It's our passion.
03:36But we really do like the old styles.
03:39Otherwise, we wouldn't be wearing it ourselves.
03:41Even Kitty's husband, Thomas, fits into her lifestyle.
03:47Born in 1965, he's also a fan of 60s vintage style.
03:53With a passion like this,
03:54you need someone who's willing to go along with it
03:56and who even can inspire you.
03:59It would be quite problematic
04:01if you wanted to have makeshift furniture, for example.
04:04I don't think I could be that tolerant.
04:07There's only one thing from the 60s
04:09that Kitty can't identify with at all.
04:12Vintage fashion, not vintage values.
04:17Emancipation reigns here.
04:20That is actually true.
04:23So it has nothing to do with longing for role models
04:26or even political things that existed in the past.
04:29No, we're quite happy to be living in this era right now, aren't we?
04:34Kitty does live in the present.
04:37She owns a smartphone
04:38and couldn't imagine life without the internet or social media
04:41any more than she could without her tattoos.
04:44But otherwise, her heart clearly beats for the 60s
04:47and for Thomas and her poodle.
