00:39That's kind of how we met up originally.

00:42We're looking to buy an oceanfront property
00:44on the east coast of Canada.
00:45Preferably right on the ocean.
00:47In the ocean, if we can.
00:49We have a cat named Buddy.
00:51I call him my son.
00:53He's 13 years old.
00:55Yeah, a bit of an old dog now.
00:56And actually, it's a she.
00:58We have done a lot of traveling.
01:00It's upwards of 18 countries now.
01:02She's got a couple more than me.
01:03But it's just a drop in the bucket.
01:05We have a lot more countries to go.
01:07So oceanfront and water proximity for us
01:09is really important because I feel like it's something
01:11that's just kind of in my blood.
01:13I got two grandfathers who were both in the Navy.
01:15Both of my parents are from Newfoundland.
01:17It's an island.
01:19Cape Breton, also an island.
01:21Being near the ocean feels like home for me.
01:24We're looking for a home that is a base
01:27for when we're not traveling.
01:29Something oceanfront that still feels like a vacation
01:32when we're not on vacation.
01:33And have all those benefits of a cottage,
01:36but all the time.
01:37I am a certified diver.
01:38Having that oceanfront property on the east coast
01:40where I could have a dive in my backyard,
01:43I think would be like really, really top notch.
01:46We currently live out in Martins River.
01:48It's a great spot. It's very scenic.
01:49But even for me, it's still a little bit too busy,
01:52especially like in the tourist season.
01:53But we had a very fast and wild early 20s.
01:58So we got all of our fun and city living out then.
02:02And we're just ready to become hermits.
02:07Our wish list for the new house would be,
02:09I think the most important is on the ocean.
02:12With views from every window would be ideal.
02:15Three bedrooms.
02:16We definitely need room to entertain.
02:18We host a lot of parties.
02:19Having a large yard and a place where like
02:21people could pull up RVs.
02:22And I mean, ideally for me, no neighbors.
02:25Anything like that where we can host
02:26a really nice outdoor party and turn the music up loud.
02:28I need something with character.
02:30I don't do boring.
02:32A bit of spookiness, the old Victorian style.

02:37a little bit more turnkey.
02:39The budget for the house is $400,000.
02:41I don't really want to go above that just because
02:43I feel like that might overextend us as far as like
02:46our spending threshold goes.
02:47We also don't want to cut into vacation funds.

05:47The dining room and the kitchen flows to the living room and right out onto the patio, which features the pool as well as that ocean view.

05:58It's not the Gothic Victorian style that I was looking for.
06:08It's not the Gothic Victorian style that I was looking for, but I do love the era of the 60s and 70s.
06:16Although this house doesn't have the aesthetic that I was looking for, it does have its own unique aesthetic.
06:22So I feel like I could definitely work with this space and make it my own.

17:54I mean, overall, it does have some great character, but I can't quite wrap my head around the space in the kitchen and the main living areas.

18:09Yeah, what it lacks for in space on the interior, it definitely makes up for on the exterior space.

18:34Let's talk about the first property that we viewed, Tidewind Cottages.
18:37I absolutely loved the kitchen.
18:39It was open concept.
18:41One thing that was a concern for me is we weren't right on the ocean.
18:44The pool was a big bonus for me.
18:46Having those additional cottages at the top of the hill was definitely a game changer.
18:49It's hard to believe for $398,000, that whole parcel could be ours.

18:53And we could be making money off of it.

18:56Let's move on to the next home we saw.
18:57Seabreeze Bluff.
18:58The views were mind boggling.
19:00I did love the nature feel outside.
19:03However, getting down to the ocean on the property is a bit of a struggle.
19:07Moving inside of the house, there was a lot of renovations that we talked about when we were there.
19:12Knocking down walls, rearranging rooms, but some of them quite easy.
19:15We can do them ourselves.
19:16And that one was just $350,000, so it was quite a bit under budget.
19:20Let's talk about the last property, the secluded shanty.
19:23It was definitely the most private with a lot of ocean frontage.
19:26Compared to the other two properties, the accessibility was definitely the best of the bunch.
19:30The house was pretty tight.
19:31Some of the other homes we saw had a more open feel.
19:34This definitely did not have that.
19:36Although the kitchen was small, it was very updated.
19:39There wasn't exactly as much room as I would have liked for hosting people inside,
19:44but the outside definitely did a lot of the talking.
19:47And there were three bedrooms in that property as well.
19:49It's $100,000 under the budget.
19:51I mean, that leaves a lot of room for whatever we want to do.
19:54I think I know which one I'm ready to unpack our suitcases at at the end of a trip.

20:07We're officially Hermit.
20:09We purchased secluded shanty, and we couldn't be happier.

20:14We put a bid in for full ask, and we actually got it.
20:17We've been in the property for three months now, and it's been an incredible experience to have our friends and family come out here.
20:22We have all the space we ever wanted as far as having some tents and campers.
20:26We've had the speakers out here on full blast.
20:29We've had fireworks shows, and no one's come knocking at our door.
20:33We love spending our time outside on this property.
20:36I mean, this beach is incredible for finding treasures.
20:39I've even worked from the point while he's barbecuing dinner.
20:43What's next for us is lighting up that queue, cracking a beer, and planning our next vacation.
20:48We knew this was the perfect spot for us when we saw this ocean view.

20:54We love that we can travel and always have the ability to come back to this place when we need to.
