00:01:15She first finds fame playing an assertive paralegal in drama suit.
00:01:19Because you were too busy ogling me to listen to a word I've said.
00:01:23She had a pretty significant part, and that's how her fame started to grow.
00:01:28As Megan's star rises, those close to her, including her first husband, pay a heavy price.
00:01:35I think that there is a pattern of ghosting people.
00:01:40I think his friends just felt she cast him aside.
00:01:43See you again. Bye.
00:01:45Then her relationship with Prince Harry makes her the most famous woman in the world.
00:01:51Congratulations.
00:01:52Megan had the world at her feet.
00:01:55He was all there waiting for her.
00:01:59But Megan's new popularity comes at a cost.
00:02:03From the moment Megan's name was made public, that's when everything changed.
00:02:09That was the first taste where she first realized that this was going to be, like, something she'd never experienced before.
00:02:19We called it the new normal.
00:02:21She could not go out with her friends anymore without paparazzi being there.
00:02:25And behind palace gates, she struggles to fit in with the royal family.
00:02:31She describes William McKay as being very cold.
00:02:36Maybe she thought she would have equal status.
00:02:43But she was never going to.
00:02:44Meghan Markle has been dating Prince Harry for nearly two years.
00:02:56And now she's about to fulfill her dream of being the most famous person in the world.
00:03:02Her royal wedding will have a global audience.
00:03:08But in the lead-up to the big day, there are reports that the stress of becoming a royal bride is getting to her.
00:03:15Stories of tensions and of the treatment of staff and of difficult arguments over arrangements for the wedding started.
00:03:29And from that moment on, they never really went away.
00:03:35I feel like she became Bridezilla.
00:03:38She blew up at a flower person.
00:03:41The same flower person's like, I will never work with her ever again.
00:03:45Little stories were drip-feeding out about her demands and what she wanted.
00:03:56She wanted everything to be just so and didn't understand why they couldn't be as she requested.
00:04:02Meghan pushes back against palace traditions to get what she wants for her fairy tale wedding.
00:04:09For Meghan's big day, the Queen opens her private jewel collection.
00:04:16Meghan was accepting the gift of a tiara to wear on the day, directly from the Queen.
00:04:26Meghan had to go through Angela Kelly to see these tiaras.
00:04:29There was Angela Kelly, who was the late Queen's right-hand woman.
00:04:33She was known as AK-47.
00:04:35She was very fierce, very protective of the Queen.
00:04:38Meghan wanted to try this tiara on with her hairdresser.
00:04:41But Angela Kelly said no.
00:04:42Not even Catherine, the princess of Wales, had the tiara to practice with before the wedding day.
00:04:49These are priceless gems.
00:04:50They're kept under lock and key.
00:04:52Meghan didn't understand why she couldn't just choose her tiara and practice with it.
00:04:57Harry says to Angela Kelly what Meghan wants, Meghan gets.
00:05:01Meghan's father, Thomas Markle, has been photographed by the paparazzi.
00:05:26Her dad, Thomas Markle, really suffered in the build-up to the wedding because, of course, there was a lot of attention on him.
00:05:33He was over in Mexico.
00:05:35He was a bit overweight.
00:05:37He was quite scruffy.
00:05:38It wasn't a great portrait.
00:05:41He was continuously packed, walking out of a gas station with a six-pack.
00:05:46But then, more flattering pictures begin to appear in the press.
00:05:52He was pictured having his suit fitted.
00:05:54He was pictured doing exercise by a rubbish tip to get his muscles up, reading an atlas of Great Britain.
00:06:05And she said to her dad, look, dad, did you know these pictures were being taken?
00:06:10And he said, no.
00:06:11And she said, I believe you.
00:06:14But Meghan is dealt a devastating blow when news reporters break a story from America.
00:06:19We began with those new questions about Meghan, Markle's father.
00:06:24The Mail on Sunday alleging that Thomas Markle participated in stage photos for the paparazzi.
00:06:30The Mail on Sunday got CCTV of Thomas Markle setting up these pap shots.
00:06:47Seen through this new lens, these photographs look staged.
00:06:51He wanted the pictures to show him as a proactive person.
00:06:56The problem was he was paid for those photos.
00:07:00The newspapers reportedly pay $100,000 for these photographs.
00:07:05Harry and Meghan shagged at him down the phone.
00:07:08They'd had a furious argument.
00:07:13Meghan would have been embarrassed.
00:07:15Harry just wouldn't have understood why this was happening.
00:07:20Meghan and Harry were so hardline about the press that she couldn't forgive her dad for doing that.
00:07:29Following the argument, Thomas Markle makes a statement to the press.
00:07:34Thomas decided not to go to the wedding, leaving Meghan very much concerned about not only his mental state, but his physical state.
00:07:58The media goes into a frenzy as it's followed by another alarming announcement.
00:08:04Breaking news.
00:08:05Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Senior, has reportedly suffered a heart attack.
00:08:09She couldn't get hold of him when he apparently had a heart attack and was in hospital.
00:08:16It caused her a lot of stress in the days before her big wedding to Harry.
00:08:23She was clearly very hurt by what had happened to her relationship with her father.
00:08:30And I think that was very much the beginning of the serious disintegration of his relationship with Meghan.
00:08:38As Meghan strives to become royal, the scandal around her father is increasingly at odds with her elevated status.
00:08:46I think she's ashamed of her father.
00:08:48And I do think that that's why we don't see him.
00:08:51I do wonder whether Meghan really wanted her dad there.
00:08:54It's almost like she wanted to sort of bury him until the last possible moment when it was too late in case he embarrassed her.
00:09:01Other members of Meghan's family are threatening to ruin the image of the modern royal she wants to project.
00:09:08At the very beginning, her half-siblings, Samantha and Thomas Junior, were being very complimentary about Meghan.
00:09:15Samantha and Thomas Markle Junior, seen here alongside their father, believed they had a good relationship with Meghan.
00:09:24Of course, they were all hoping for an invite to the wedding.
00:09:27But an invite isn't forthcoming.
00:09:30They hadn't seen her for a number of years.
00:09:32They didn't spend a lot of time together as siblings.
00:09:35And so the relationship was not a close one.
00:09:38When that invite didn't come, you know, her own brother wrote a letter to Harry, which he released to the press.
00:09:52Saying, don't marry her, she's all wrong, she's manipulative, she's using you.
00:09:57And they felt humiliated, they felt ostracised, and they reacted.
00:10:02It must have been difficult for Meghan, the attention, the scrutiny, the difficulties.
00:10:09It must have been very hurtful to see, you know, her family, her Markle family, be so rude about her.
00:10:17As Meghan contends with these dramas, behind palace doors, another is unfolding.
00:10:24This time with her soon-to-be sister-in-law.
00:10:32There was a problem with Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid dress.
00:10:39Kate said to Meghan, look, the bridesmaid dress doesn't fit.
00:10:43Charlotte's really upset.
00:10:46Meghan said, yeah, have it tailored.
00:10:48Send the dress to Kensington Palace, my tailor's there.
00:10:50Catherine apparently said, no, it has to be started from scratch.
00:11:15Reportedly, one or other of the women, or both, cried.
00:11:19In the aftermath, Meghan reveals it's Kate who tries to smooth things over.
00:11:27She apologised, and I've forgiven her.
00:11:31What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn't do, but that happened to me.
00:11:38I think it's really important for people to understand the truth.
00:11:43What I heard was that Catherine went round to Nottingham Cottage, turned up with flowers, and apologised.
00:11:50And I think in the moment, Meghan was polite, but then afterwards very much disposed of these flowers.
00:11:56With her family in chaos and tensions behind the scenes at a high, Meghan awaits the big day with trepidation.
00:12:10It's a nerve-wracking time.
00:12:12She was being married in front of the whole world, and she had to have a big ceremony.
00:12:19It must have been hell.
00:12:21I have a lot of sympathy for her.
00:12:23Hello, a very good afternoon to you.
00:12:40We are live in Windsor for you this afternoon.
00:12:44The area is absolutely buzzing with excitement as final preparations are made for that royal wedding.
00:12:51News crew is excitedly broadcast around the world.
00:12:57As guests arrive, it appears Meghan, along with Harry, is using this day as a way of connecting with high-profile celebrities.
00:13:07I think it's really interesting.
00:13:09The A-list were there, whether it was the Beckhams, whether it was Oprah Winfrey and George Clooney.
00:13:14It was a great way of associating themselves with some of the biggest stars in the world.
00:13:18It was a way of her bringing Hollywood into the royal family.
00:13:24Somebody throws a microphone in Clooney's face and says, how do you know the happy couple?
00:13:28He goes, I don't.
00:13:30Not one member of Meghan Markle's family was there except for her mother.
00:13:36And the entire world is watching?
00:13:38That's not normal.
00:13:39Travelling to the chapel, Meghan puts all of her problems behind her.
00:13:53The world sees stunning images of Meghan's beautiful Givenchy dress, designed by Claire Waite Keller.
00:14:00With a veil embroidered with the flowers of the Commonwealth, it's estimated to have cost £100,000.
00:14:11At this moment, Meghan Markle is the most famous woman on the planet.
00:14:17But with her father absent, the then Prince Charles steps in.
00:14:24What was so moving for me was to see Charles take her down the aisle.
00:14:31Given everything that happened, Charles having to stand in, she looked absolutely calm.
00:14:37As if nothing would interrupt her wedding day to Prince Harry.
00:14:46And then you could hear on the mic, Harry said, when Charles took her to him.
00:14:56That to me brought tears in my eyes.
00:14:58It was beautiful.
00:14:59With over two billion people watching the lavish wedding, Meghan is finally a global icon.
00:15:11And forsaking all others, be faithful to him as long as you both shall live.
00:15:19I will.
00:15:21The wedding was the one moment for her to have completely reinvent herself.
00:15:26And with you, the families and friends of Harry and Meghan.
00:15:31The whole world was in love with her.
00:15:42It feels purposeful, it feels right, it feels that this is a new day.
00:15:49How wrong we all were.
00:15:56Meghan Markle has gone from a broken home in LA to marrying a prince and becoming one of the most famous women in the world.
00:16:21Just a month after the wedding, Meghan relishes the opportunity to begin her new role as a working royal.
00:16:35Right after the wedding, Meghan Markle gets her first engagement with Queen Elizabeth,
00:16:40which was a lot sooner than the Princess of Wales Catherine got to be seen with the Queen.
00:16:43She thought Meghan Markle was going to be a very valuable asset to the British royal family.
00:16:52The outing is a chance for her to learn the ropes alongside the most qualified teacher in the world.
00:17:01The Queen welcomed her.
00:17:02She did everything she could to help Meghan get acquainted with the ways of the royal family.
00:17:08The crowds loved it.
00:17:13It went down really well.
00:17:27Meghan begins to use her royal status to charm the public.
00:17:32Meghan could touch anything and really make it into gold.
00:17:44And also what was great about her was she was really putting her fame to some really important issues.
00:17:52There's one really good example of that, which is with the community around Grenfell Tower.
00:17:57It was an awful, awful tragedy.
00:18:00Meghan got to know the community that lives around there, a very diverse community.
00:18:06The Grenfell fire left so many families displaced outside of how many deaths it caused.
00:18:16And I remember saying, well, can we, can we do something?
00:18:19We need to go down there and do something.
00:18:21She paid them many private visits.
00:18:24They needed to extend the opening hours of the kitchen so they could feed the community.
00:18:32Meghan didn't just give them some money to do it.
00:18:34She came up with the idea, well, let's make a cookbook.
00:18:37Your favorite recipes from your various different countries of origin.
00:18:41And then let's sell that cookbook and use those proceeds to extend the kitchen.
00:18:46That was a really, really clever idea.
00:18:48Meghan enthusiastically recounts why she became involved.
00:18:54Working on this project for the past nine months has been a tremendous labor of love.
00:19:01I had just recently moved to London and I felt so immediately embraced by the women in the kitchen with your warmth and your kindness.
00:19:10It was highlighting the power of the royal family, highlighting the power of celebrity that's harnessed well.
00:19:14And she was doing it in a really good way.
00:19:16Five months after their wedding, Meghan joins Harry on their first international royal tour.
00:19:37Their arrival coincides with a piece of exciting news which makes headlines across the globe.
00:19:43Kensington Palace has confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting their first child.
00:19:49Now, the news was announced just a short while ago.
00:19:52Meghan Markle expecting a baby in the spring of 2019.
00:19:56The couple have just started, actually, a royal tour.
00:20:00Their first.
00:20:01It was a fantastic moment.
00:20:02You know, I think everybody was really happy for her.
00:20:05You know, we knew that she wanted children.
00:20:06We knew that Harry did too.
00:20:08So, this was going to be a little perfect family.
00:20:10On the face of it, that Australia tour was an absolute triumph.
00:20:21As they walked out of the Opera House steps, a lot of Sydney had come to cheer.
00:20:28I was there.
00:20:33You couldn't help but think, wow, this is amazing.
00:20:40She was the perfect person to really drive the royal family into a new sort of era of being young, vibrant, sexy, cool, relatable.
00:20:51And that felt like a really strong thing for the royal family as a brand, and also her as a brand too.
00:20:58And afterwards, she turned to Harry and allegedly said,
00:21:05I can't believe I'm not getting paid for this.
00:21:08I think it's fair to infer that comment was a warning sign of what was to come.
00:21:18Keep in mind, Meghan Markle did not get rid of her team once she marries Prince Harry.
00:21:28So, she has L.A. agents, New York agents, publicists from both sides of the coasts whispering in her ear.
00:21:38And now she's having to turn down multibillion-dollar deals because she's a working member of the royal family.
00:21:45I do think that money is a very important thing to Meghan, because for a long time she didn't have it.
00:21:52And now all of a sudden, you know, she has the opportunity to make it rain, and the royal family is like, absolutely not.
00:22:01I think it must have been hard for her.
00:22:02She's ambitious, and that ambition, if it's restricted, can be quite difficult to live with.
00:22:08The tour then heads to the South Pacific.
00:22:22Meghan uses her first solo royal engagement to show her ambition to be a humanitarian.
00:22:28We were told the reason we were there was because it was showcasing female artisans, female entrepreneurs.
00:22:41Brilliant. Exactly the sort of thing that Duchess of Sussex wanted to support.
00:22:45And I was in the market, and I watched her come in, and immediately her body language was off, and she was unhappy.
00:22:51And I saw her, with my own eyes, test strips of her deputy private secretary.
00:22:56I couldn't hear what was being said.
00:22:57I could just see from the body language between the two women.
00:23:00Guys, out. Just stay to the side.
00:23:03Everyone turn around.
00:23:07After about two or three minutes, he just walked all the way through, rushed past us, and out.
00:23:11No roomie, turn. Oh, sorry.
00:23:12Of course, we were all like, what happened? Why did she brush out?
00:23:19Let me get out of the way.
00:23:20They said it was security concerned.
00:23:25Kensington Palace says Meghan's visit is cut short because of fears over crowd control.
00:23:32And this local news footage captures the volume of people with her.
00:23:36I was told the reason she had become so annoyed was that there was all the branding for UN women in the market
00:23:46because they had supported this initiative with the local Fijian women.
00:23:51As I understand it, she hoped to get an ambassadorship for UN women.
00:23:58As I understand it, there was no position for her.
00:24:02A woman would travel for two or three days to get to this market to meet the Duchess of Sussex.
00:24:09And now she wasn't prepared to stay and speak to these women and congratulate them
00:24:16just because she had some beef with some branding at the market.
00:24:21Meghan's lawyers deny she left because of the organisation,
00:24:25saying she met with representatives from the UN women later on the tour.
00:24:32Meghan is now six months pregnant.
00:24:44She takes a break from royal engagements and meets up with friends to celebrate.
00:24:48My girlfriend surprised me with a really beautiful baby shower in New York.
00:24:53They're like, we're going to shower her with love and shower her baby,
00:24:57and she's going to survive this.
00:24:59We're going to get through it with her.
00:25:00Meghan Markle hops on a private jet for this high-profile, Hollywood-style baby shower.
00:25:07Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of swag if you attend.
00:25:12Cameras capture friends of Meghan raving the New York winter,
00:25:16including Amal Clooney and talk show host Gayle King
00:25:19as they head to the hotel's exclusive $75,000 a night penthouse.
00:25:25There's everything the royal family is not, really.
00:25:28It's very ostentatious.
00:25:29This kind of show of wealth and cash and jet-set lifestyle
00:25:33is just not something the royal family like to do.
00:25:37This photograph captures Meghan smiling with some of her happy guests,
00:25:42who enjoy an exclusive menu and gift bags worth eye-watering sums.
00:25:48It showed that she really believed she was a celebrity and she could be flashy.
00:26:01It showed that she just didn't understand how the royal family worked.
00:26:05The great nuance of the British royal family is that you have to somehow pretend
00:26:10that you're just one of us and that you're on our level.
00:26:12Meghan just didn't really get this.
00:26:13You know, people don't want to see a flashy royal.
00:26:19The media really turned on her.
00:26:21This backlash is just the beginning.
00:26:26Meghan is devastated by these constant attacks,
00:26:29and it will lead her to contemplate the unthinkable.
00:26:33This toxic atmosphere that had been created
00:26:36to the point where she felt suicidal.
00:26:38Meghan Markle has achieved her ambition
00:27:03of becoming one of the biggest stars in the world.
00:27:08But just as she begins her royal career,
00:27:11the Duchess of Sussex is under increasing attack
00:27:14from social media and the press.
00:27:24We knew that Meghan and Harry were really struggling under the spotlight.
00:27:28They had a lot of negative attention.
00:27:30They were saying they weren't reading their coverage,
00:27:36but clearly they were because they were so miserable
00:27:39and they didn't know which way to turn.
00:27:41Everything they tried made it worse.
00:27:43I think it was down to the fact
00:27:44that Meghan just didn't understand the royal family.
00:27:48Meghan's team finds a way to fight back.
00:27:50In February 2019, People magazine publishes an article
00:27:55quoting anonymous friends of Meghan.
00:27:58There was this kind of defence of Meghan,
00:28:00how great she is, what a great friend she is,
00:28:02what a great employer she is.
00:28:03It was perfectly clear to me that her fingerprints were all over it.
00:28:10Five of Meghan's friends had given this interview
00:28:12to People magazine anonymously,
00:28:15but it was very much assumed
00:28:18that they wouldn't have done so without her say-so.
00:28:21Also, there was an element of survival as well,
00:28:25that she felt that the palace press office
00:28:27weren't doing the job correctly.
00:28:30They were saying it's best if we never complain, never explain.
00:28:35Meghan didn't see that.
00:28:37She's from a world in Hollywood
00:28:39where you try and manipulate the mass media.
00:28:44It doesn't work.
00:28:47As tabloid criticism only ramps up.
00:28:51She was pregnant with Archie.
00:28:57And the pressure that pregnancy puts on a woman anyway,
00:29:01psychologically, is huge.
00:29:04And when you've got all this media attention going on
00:29:07and everything else,
00:29:08and all the negative publicity that goes on in the media...
00:29:14For Meghan, it all becomes too much.
00:29:22I realized that it was all happening
00:29:25just because I was breathing.
00:29:29I just didn't want to be alive anymore.
00:29:37Meghan viewed herself as being under a microscope,
00:29:41being under tremendous pressure.
00:29:42The strain and the toxic atmosphere
00:29:48that had been created to the point where she felt suicidal.
00:29:53Meghan recognizes she needs to address her suicidal feelings,
00:29:57but reveals she's frustrated by attitudes inside the royal household.
00:30:02I wanted to go somewhere to get help,
00:30:08but I wasn't allowed to.
00:30:11They were concerned about how that would look for the institution.
00:30:15They were no longer in tune with what the royal family expected from them.
00:30:21A year after getting married,
00:30:37Meghan makes exciting headlines around the world.
00:30:41Harry and Meghan's pride.
00:30:43The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcome a baby boy.
00:30:46Archie Mountbatten-Windsor is born at 5.26am.
00:30:52Before the press are informed,
00:30:54Archie and his parents are back home,
00:30:56away from the glare of the public.
00:31:00A convention had grown that a new mum
00:31:03was expected to stand on the steps of the hospital
00:31:06and show the world the new royal baby.
00:31:10And therefore, it was expected that Meghan should do the same.
00:31:15It was clear that Meghan wanted to have no part in that kind of facade.
00:31:23The very thought of putting a woman on the steps of a hospital
00:31:29when only hours before they perhaps experienced
00:31:33one of the most traumatic experiences of their life in giving birth
00:31:36was to Harry and Meghan completely wrong.
00:31:40Whether that pressure was coming from the media,
00:31:42whether it was coming from the palace,
00:31:45Harry and Meghan didn't want to do that.
00:31:59Two days after giving birth,
00:32:01Harry and Meghan agreed to a photo call with baby Archie.
00:32:05I heard the photographs were taken of Archie,
00:32:13but Harry and Meghan didn't like that.
00:32:16It's fine. I don't think the same was nice.
00:32:20And that was their first experiences
00:32:23that were so bad
00:32:25that relationships were beginning to fall apart
00:32:29with other members of the royal family.
00:32:31The media had a very short honeymoon period
00:32:34with Meghan and Harry,
00:32:35and they were very irritated
00:32:38by their behaviour,
00:32:41by their focus on secrecy.
00:32:45It went down like a lead balloon.
00:32:49While feeling under relentless pressure and criticism,
00:32:53Meghan and her family embark on a royal tour.
00:32:56Throughout the tour in Africa,
00:33:10I was reporting on the news.
00:33:13We could tell that things weren't right.
00:33:15They weren't right within their team.
00:33:17Harry was very tense on a lot of that tour.
00:33:22Simultaneously, there was a team making a documentary
00:33:24that would air a few weeks later.
00:33:27One of the difficulties the documentary team had
00:33:29was securing access to an interview with Harry and Meghan.
00:33:34Now, this is because they were doing the Oprah interview,
00:33:37and they promised Oprah they wouldn't be filmed together.
00:33:40But the general public didn't know that at the time.
00:33:43Harry had given an interview to the documentary team
00:33:45when he was on the tour of Africa.
00:33:48Meghan left hers until the very last day.
00:33:52She decided to give an interview to Tom Bradby
00:33:57about her time in the royal family.
00:34:01I don't know what the impact on your physical and mental health
00:34:04or all the pressure that you clearly feel under.
00:34:06I would say...
00:34:13Look, any woman, especially when they're pregnant,
00:34:16you're really vulnerable.
00:34:18And so that was made really challenging.
00:34:23And then when you have a newborn...
00:34:25You know?
00:34:26Mm-hmm.
00:34:27It's a long time ago, but I remember.
00:34:28Yeah.
00:34:28You know, and especially as a woman, it's really...
00:34:31It's a lot.
00:34:31So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom
00:34:36or trying to be a newlywed, it's...
00:34:38Yeah, well, I guess...
00:34:42And also, thank you for asking,
00:34:43because not many people have asked if I'm okay.
00:34:46But it's...
00:34:47It's a very real thing
00:34:50to be going through behind the scenes.
00:34:52And the answer is...
00:34:54Would it be fair to say not really okay?
00:34:57Since it's really been a struggle?
00:34:59Yes.
00:35:06It was the beginning of their victim narrative,
00:35:09and it was very much, obviously, public.
00:35:12And it was completely unprecedented.
00:35:14We'd never seen a member of the royal family whinge
00:35:17about being a member of the royal family before.
00:35:19This was so against protocol.
00:35:21You can imagine the firm were furious.
00:35:23After a difficult year,
00:35:35Meghan and her new family have had enough.
00:35:40What happens next changes the course of British history,
00:35:44exposing a rift between Meghan and Harry
00:35:46and the rest of the royal family?
00:35:50Yeah, that was incredible
00:35:51that the palace was putting out a line at all.
00:35:53It was an indication of how much anger
00:35:55there was behind the scenes.
00:35:56Meghan has risen from a Hollywood actress
00:36:23to one of the most famous women in the world.
00:36:27But it has come at a heavy cost.
00:36:30Unable to deal with the pressure of being a royal,
00:36:33Meghan and Harry release a statement.
00:36:36We intend to step back
00:36:43as senior members of the royal family
00:36:45and work to become financially independent
00:36:49while continuing to fully support
00:36:52Her Majesty, the Queen.
00:36:56Suddenly it emerged that they were going to leave the UK.
00:37:00They wanted to do their own thing
00:37:02in their own way and with their own ideas.
00:37:05They want half in, half out.
00:37:08They want to still represent the Queen
00:37:09and the Commonwealth,
00:37:10but they also want to make their own money.
00:37:14The world's media reacts
00:37:15to their astonishing Mexit announcement.
00:37:18Sources now say Queen Elizabeth
00:37:19is leading four-way talks
00:37:21with Prince Charles, William and Harry,
00:37:24pushing for a workable solution.
00:37:28Meghan just wants to go back to Hollywood.
00:37:30Meghan was probably thinking to herself,
00:37:31well, we should be doing this, why not?
00:37:34We've got our children's future to think of,
00:37:35we've got our own livelihoods, why not?
00:37:40As the royal family wheels from his statement,
00:37:43Meghan returns to Canada to be with Archie.
00:37:48With his wife out of the country,
00:37:49Harry is hauled into crisis talks with his family.
00:37:53The meeting, dubbed the Sandringham Summit,
00:38:05sees Meghan's future play out in the news headlines.
00:38:09Queen Elizabeth has ordered a high-level summit for today
00:38:12to hash out the next move for the royal family.
00:38:15It comes after Harry and Meghan's bombshell announcement
00:38:17that they were stepping back from their royal duties.
00:38:20Meghan was meant to be really involved
00:38:23in the Sandringham Summit.
00:38:24She wanted to be there.
00:38:25She found it really frustrating she wasn't included
00:38:27because, to be fair, they were deciding her future.
00:38:31Imagine a conversation, a roundtable discussion,
00:38:35about the future of your life
00:38:37when the stakes are this high.
00:38:39Harry, and you as the mom and the wife
00:38:44and the target, in many regards,
00:38:48aren't invited to have a seat at the table.
00:38:51I think the royal family didn't want her there
00:38:53because they didn't trust her.
00:38:54They just didn't know how she'd manipulate the situation,
00:38:57and they really wanted to get through to Harry one-on-one
00:38:59so they could talk some sense into him.
00:39:02After intense negotiations,
00:39:05dramatic news reports reveal
00:39:06the Queen refuses to let the couple be part-time royals.
00:39:10There's developing news coming from Buckingham Palace.
00:39:13The Duke and Duchess of Sussex
00:39:14will stop using their Royal Highness titles
00:39:17and won't receive public funds for royal duties.
00:39:20That's part of a deal Meghan and Harry
00:39:21just struck with the Queen.
00:39:24For Meghan and Harry,
00:39:26the only way is fully out.
00:39:28Megxit results in public outcry,
00:39:38and Meghan's once soaring popularity plummets.
00:39:42I think that Megxit was when
00:39:44the British public really turned on them.
00:39:48I think the British public were insulted
00:39:49that he wanted to leave, basically,
00:39:51and took offence.
00:39:58Meghan's public royal role
00:40:02comes to an end two months
00:40:04after their Megxit announcement.
00:40:08Her final engagement
00:40:09brings her face-to-face with the royal family
00:40:12one last time.
00:40:14Commonwealth Day service,
00:40:15an annual engagement in the royal calendar
00:40:18that all senior royals always go to.
00:40:19Meghan was wearing this very striking green outfit
00:40:22with a cape.
00:40:23She looked utterly serene,
00:40:25and she just wore this mask of serenity.
00:40:27I think it must have been
00:40:29really hard for Meghan, you know.
00:40:31Well, where we see the new conductors
00:40:32of Sussex being led to their seats.
00:40:35The final days of being part of the royal family,
00:40:37going to that Commonwealth event,
00:40:39knowing that you're going to be leave very soon,
00:40:41but still managing to look elegant
00:40:44and smile in whatever way,
00:40:47that was really the actress coming out.
00:40:48That was one of her best roles.
00:40:52There's some little bits that were picked up
00:40:54by the cameras, weren't there?
00:40:55I mean, it was just little snippets,
00:40:56but it looked like there was no interaction
00:40:58between Harry and Meghan and William and Kate.
00:41:01I think we know that relations
00:41:03had completely disintegrated by that point,
00:41:05and it seemed quite frosty.
00:41:12They played the game.
00:41:13They went through the motions,
00:41:15and then they got on what they described
00:41:17as their freedom flight.
00:41:18Meghan and her family
00:41:24settle in her home state of California.
00:41:28And buy a $15 million mansion
00:41:31in a town loved by celebrities.
00:41:33Montecito gives them the privacy that they want.
00:41:47It's where the elite of the elite go.
00:41:51Oprah Winfrey is currently there.
00:41:53Rob Lowe's there.
00:41:54It's the perfect place to network.
00:41:57If you want to keep up with the Joneses,
00:41:59then you live in Montecito.
00:42:00Having walked away from her role in the royal family,
00:42:05Meghan is in danger of falling out of the spotlight.
00:42:09But something is in the works
00:42:10that will see her take center stage once again.
00:42:14CBS releases a trailer for a worldwide exclusive,
00:42:33a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.
00:42:35I mean, most people would go to Oprah
00:42:37if they really want to let something out.
00:42:40If you're a big star,
00:42:41and you're with another big name,
00:42:43like a royal,
00:42:45you better talk to Oprah.
00:42:48A day after the trailer airs,
00:42:51damaging information relating to Meghan's time
00:42:53as a royal comes to light.
00:42:55We found out that the Sussex's
00:43:08communication secretary, Jason Knauf,
00:43:10had actually raised the complaint with HR
00:43:11about Meghan's bullying as he described it.
00:43:16A leaked email suggests that Meghan's treatment
00:43:20of her staff was so bad
00:43:21that the palace had to intervene.
00:43:25The palace reacted by launching a review
00:43:27into their own practices.
00:43:29It's quite serious.
00:43:32Meghan has denied bullying,
00:43:34and, you know,
00:43:35one person's assertive boss
00:43:38is another person's bully.
00:43:40But, I mean,
00:43:43I absolutely believe those women.
00:43:46I saw some of it with my own eyes.
00:43:49There were some very, very strong women
00:43:51who worked for Meghan
00:43:52who were broken by the end of it.
00:43:56There's a small number of staff
00:43:57who were working with Meghan and Harry for years,
00:43:59right up until they left the UK.
00:44:02And I think they did have a tough time.
00:44:04Sussex Survivor Squad, yes,
00:44:05that's what they call themselves, these staff.
00:44:07Well, Meghan firmly believed
00:44:10that when those bullying emails came out
00:44:12just before the Oprah interview,
00:44:14they were released specifically to discredit her
00:44:16and Harry
00:44:17and, you know,
00:44:19counteract the narrative that was about to come.
00:44:22And I have to say,
00:44:22it seems pretty likely that was the case.
00:44:24I can't really blame her for thinking that.
00:44:26And I also can't really blame the royal family
00:44:28or former aides of the royal family
00:44:30wanting to do that
00:44:31because, you know,
00:44:32they were betraying themselves as victims.
00:44:35Of course, she said it was a massive conspiracy
00:44:37against her.
00:44:37Her very precious lawyer
00:44:38publicly went on the record
00:44:40and said this is all a load of rubbish.
00:44:41These claims do nothing
00:44:43to stop the transmission
00:44:44of what would become
00:44:45an infamous TV event.
00:44:48The Oprah interview airs during prime time.
00:45:05An estimated 17 million people in the U.S. alone
00:45:08watch Meghan emotionally recount her royal life.
00:45:12There has not been an agreement.
00:45:14You don't know what I'm going to ask.
00:45:16I know.
00:45:16And there is no subject that's off-limits.
00:45:20No.
00:45:21The Oprah interview was, you know,
00:45:23pretty incendiary
00:45:24when it came to various different claims.
00:45:27These were very detrimental accusations.
00:45:31I remember writing down,
00:45:33whoa, that's a big accusation,
00:45:35and then another,
00:45:36oh, that one's really big as well,
00:45:38and then a third,
00:45:38and then another,
00:45:39and we went on and on.
00:45:40And by the end of the show,
00:45:43it was jaw-hitting-floor moment.
00:45:46But one astonishing claim by Meghan
00:45:49towers above all others.
00:45:51In those months when I was pregnant,
00:45:54so we had in tandem the conversation of,
00:45:57he won't be given security,
00:45:59he's not going to be given a title,
00:46:01and also concerns and conversations
00:46:06about how dark his skin might be
00:46:08when he's born.
00:46:12What?
00:46:13About how dark your baby is going to be?
00:46:18Potentially,
00:46:18and what that would mean or look like.
00:46:20Ooh.
00:46:21Harry and Meghan claimed to vote for Winfrey
00:46:23that questions were asked
00:46:24by an unnamed member of the royal family
00:46:27about what color Archie's skin would be.
00:46:30That was interpreted as potentially racist.
00:46:34So in the aftermath,
00:46:37the royal family released a statement
00:46:38saying, among other things,
00:46:39the famous, famous phrase,
00:46:41some recollections may vary.
00:46:45That was incredible at the time
00:46:47that the palace was putting out a line at all.
00:46:49They never react to these kind of things,
00:46:50but it was an indication
00:46:52of how strongly they felt about it
00:46:54and how much anger there was behind the scenes.
00:46:58For Meghan,
00:46:59the interview is a catalyst
00:47:01for much welcome change.
00:47:04It really improved
00:47:05in the short term
00:47:06her status in America
00:47:07because she became much more famous.
00:47:09People were so quick to say,
00:47:11yeah, well,
00:47:12the royal family probably are racist.
00:47:14Yeah, poor Meghan.
00:47:15And I think it was
00:47:16the beginning of her new chapter.
00:47:18I think it was casting her
00:47:19as a very, very famous person
00:47:22and as a victim.
00:47:24And those were the two things
00:47:25she needed to get future deals.
00:47:27So I think it was
00:47:27the turning point for her.
00:47:28In the wake of the Oprah interview,
00:47:35Meghan's popularity in the U.S.
00:47:37is booming.
00:47:38She is finally the A-lister
00:47:40that she has been craving
00:47:42all of her life.
00:47:43She has every opportunity
00:47:44that she could ever want
00:47:46at her fingertips.
00:47:47They got a huge Netflix deal,
00:47:49they got a huge Spotify deal,
00:47:51they got public speaking gigs,
00:47:53you know,
00:47:53they got everything
00:47:54that they wanted.
00:47:57Imagine being Meghan Markle.
00:47:59You have stepped away
00:48:00from the British royal family.
00:48:02You're saying,
00:48:02I don't need you.
00:48:03I've got Netflix money,
00:48:05I've got Spotify money.
00:48:06These were such huge wins for them.
00:48:17You've got to give it
00:48:18to Harry and Meghan
00:48:18that they did manage
00:48:20to raise a lot of money,
00:48:21capitalising on their
00:48:23worldwide fame,
00:48:25knowing there was
00:48:25a huge amount of interest
00:48:26in them and about them,
00:48:28and they were
00:48:29financially independent.
00:48:35Meghan's move to Hollywood
00:48:37has made her millions.
00:48:39But she will soon discover
00:48:41there's a heavy
00:48:41personal price to pay.
00:48:46The fact that she was booed
00:48:48on the steps of
00:48:49St. Paul's Cathedral
00:48:50was probably everything
00:48:51that they were dreading
00:48:52and more.
00:48:53And more.
00:49:21Britain is celebrating
00:49:23the Queen's Platinum Jubilee,
00:49:26her 70 years
00:49:27on the throne.
00:49:30Having spent the last year
00:49:31criticising the royal institution,
00:49:35Meghan returns to the UK
00:49:36to face the British public,
00:49:38attending a service
00:49:39at St. Paul's Cathedral.
00:49:41The fact that she was booed
00:49:57on the steps of St. Paul's Cathedral
00:49:58was probably everything
00:50:00that they were dreading.
00:50:01It's completely the opposite
00:50:03of how Meghan sees herself,
00:50:05which is this sort of
00:50:06adored icon.
00:50:07And I think it probably
00:50:08would have really upset her
00:50:09because they just don't
00:50:10understand why it is
00:50:12that they're not liked.
00:50:13And the thing about
00:50:13the British public is
00:50:14once they turn against you,
00:50:15boy, do they let you know
00:50:16about it.
00:50:21Compare St. Paul's Cathedral
00:50:22in 2022
00:50:23with Harry and Meghan's
00:50:26wedding in 2018.
00:50:28Just a few short years
00:50:31and they've gone from being
00:50:32the most popular royals
00:50:34to many people in Britain,
00:50:35but not everybody,
00:50:37who were looked upon
00:50:39unfavourably for how
00:50:41they had spoken about
00:50:43the royal family
00:50:43since they had left.
00:50:45The ongoing fallout
00:51:00between Harry and Meghan
00:51:01and other members
00:51:02of the royal family
00:51:03is visible later in the year
00:51:05after the nation receives
00:51:07devastating news.
00:51:10Buckingham Palace
00:51:11has just announced
00:51:13that Her Majesty Queen
00:51:15Elizabeth II
00:51:16has died.
00:51:23When Meghan and Harry
00:51:25join William and Kate
00:51:26to meet a public
00:51:27in mourning,
00:51:30the tension
00:51:31is palpable.
00:51:33It was clear as day
00:51:36that they absolutely
00:51:38couldn't stand
00:51:39the sight of each other,
00:51:40really.
00:51:40They could barely
00:51:43walk together.
00:51:47The whole thing
00:51:48was absolutely fraught.
00:51:55They couldn't really
00:51:56act their way
00:51:57out of that one.
00:51:59CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
00:52:00Three months after
00:52:17the death of the Queen,
00:52:19Meghan and Harry
00:52:20released their debut
00:52:21Netflix documentary series
00:52:23to the world.
00:52:24CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
00:52:26This searingly honest
00:52:44and intimate series
00:52:45charts Meghan and Harry's
00:52:47controversial exit
00:52:48from the royal family.
00:52:49The documentary
00:52:51was very much
00:52:52their truth.
00:52:53it was not
00:52:54the truth
00:52:55and that was
00:52:56the significance
00:52:57that people in Britain
00:52:58saw but people
00:52:59around the world
00:53:00didn't.
00:53:02Like, I tried
00:53:02so hard.
00:53:08And that's a piece
00:53:09that's so triggering
00:53:10because you go
00:53:10and it still
00:53:11wasn't good enough
00:53:12and you still
00:53:14don't fit in.
00:53:16It was a huge hit
00:53:18on Netflix.
00:53:19It was their biggest
00:53:20rated show.
00:53:21You know,
00:53:21everybody loved it
00:53:23and everyone
00:53:23was talking about it.
00:53:25Meghan and Harry!
00:53:26Watch her.
00:53:28Riding high
00:53:29from the success
00:53:30of the Netflix series,
00:53:32Meghan's next project
00:53:33is a much-anticipated
00:53:35Spotify podcast series
00:53:36focusing on powerful women.
00:53:40This is a fantastic
00:53:41podcast called Archetypes
00:53:43where she had
00:53:43Serena Williams on it,
00:53:44Mariah Carey was on it.
00:53:46And I think
00:53:47that's really important
00:53:48for people to remember
00:53:50that there might be
00:53:51this persona
00:53:51and yes,
00:53:53the diva thing
00:53:53we can play into.
00:53:55I mean,
00:53:55it's not something
00:53:56that I connect to
00:53:57but for you
00:53:58it's been a huge part
00:53:59of your...
00:53:59You give us diva moments
00:54:00sometimes, Meghan.
00:54:01What kind of diva moments
00:54:03do I give you?
00:54:04Don't act like...
00:54:04It was just boring.
00:54:13They weren't willing
00:54:14to give Spotify
00:54:15the juicy stuff
00:54:16that they really wanted.
00:54:18Spotify wanted
00:54:19dirty little secrets.
00:54:20They didn't want archetypes.
00:54:24It only lasted one season
00:54:26and it felt like
00:54:28actually these deals
00:54:28were not going
00:54:29the way they wanted them to.
00:54:39Meghan continues to forge
00:54:41a new path.
00:54:42But three years
00:54:44after signing
00:54:44a £20 million deal
00:54:46with Spotify
00:54:46damaging news
00:54:49breaks for Meghan.
00:54:51Spotify
00:54:51have ended
00:54:52its lucrative deal
00:54:54with the Duke
00:54:54and Duchess of Sussex
00:54:55for the couple
00:54:56to produce podcasts.
00:54:58A joint statement
00:54:59from Harry and Meghan's company
00:55:01and the streaming giants
00:55:03said they had mutually agreed
00:55:04to part their ways.
00:55:06In three years,
00:55:11Meghan has only produced
00:55:1212 episodes
00:55:13of Archetypes.
00:55:15A former Spotify executive
00:55:17uses his own podcast
00:55:19to tell the world
00:55:20what he really thought
00:55:21of Meghan
00:55:22and Harry.
00:55:23I wish I'd been involved
00:55:24in the Meghan and Harry
00:55:25leave Spotify negotiation.
00:55:27Grifters.
00:55:28That's a podcast
00:55:29we should have launched
00:55:29with them.
00:55:31I gotta get drunk one night
00:55:32and tell the story
00:55:33of the Zoom I had
00:55:34with Harry
00:55:34to try to help him
00:55:35with a podcast idea.
00:55:39Someone's saying
00:55:40they're grifters,
00:55:41they're hustlers,
00:55:42they're shiny
00:55:43but don't deliver anything.
00:55:45They're getting money
00:55:45under false pretenses.
00:55:48They've wasted
00:55:49all of that capital
00:55:51that they came
00:55:52to America with.
00:55:54They're not
00:55:55the right spokespeople.
00:55:56They're not controversial
00:55:57in their own right.
00:55:59Who are they
00:56:00besides individuals
00:56:01who should be cast
00:56:03into opportunities
00:56:04or brought opportunities
00:56:05for them to say
00:56:06yes indeed
00:56:07I dub that
00:56:07we should do this.
00:56:09That's the problem.
00:56:11The collapse
00:56:12of her Spotify deal
00:56:13is a dent
00:56:14in Meghan's ambition
00:56:15of building a media empire.
00:56:17Obviously she's been paid
00:56:18very, very well
00:56:19but if whatever she's doing
00:56:21doesn't make the numbers
00:56:23then the businessmen
00:56:24are going
00:56:24well this doesn't add up.
00:56:26And this is just
00:56:26the beginning
00:56:27of a series of problems
00:56:29facing Meghan.
00:56:31Including a shocking article
00:56:32that claims discussions
00:56:33are taking place
00:56:34about a life
00:56:35post-divorce
00:56:36from Harry.
00:56:37The fact that this
00:56:38remained in that piece
00:56:40and was printed
00:56:42is exceptionally
00:56:43mind-blowing.
00:56:45Meghan has become
00:56:59one of the most
00:56:59famous women
00:57:00in the world.
00:57:02But five years
00:57:02after leaving
00:57:03the royal family
00:57:04she finds herself
00:57:08under attack.
00:57:09We just want to be
00:57:11normal people
00:57:12all this attention
00:57:13is so hard.
00:57:14Isn't it true sir
00:57:15that your questionable
00:57:15wife has her own TV show
00:57:17and hangs out with
00:57:17celebrities and does
00:57:18fashion magazines?
00:57:19What are you suggesting?
00:57:20Babe!
00:57:21Time to do our
00:57:22daily $250,000
00:57:25sponsored Instagram post
00:57:26for Dell Taco.
00:57:27They want it both ways.
00:57:29You know you can't be
00:57:30these people were so
00:57:31mean to us
00:57:32poor us
00:57:33and we don't want
00:57:34all this attention
00:57:35and then let me write
00:57:36a book about how much
00:57:37we don't want attention.
00:57:53Then a magazine
00:57:54is published
00:57:55threatening to undo
00:57:56Meghan's public standing.
00:58:01Vanity Fair's
00:58:02American Hustle piece
00:58:03earthquake in Montecito.
00:58:05It is so damaging
00:58:07to Harry and Meghan's
00:58:08reputation.
00:58:10More bully allegations.
00:58:15Pages and pages
00:58:17of critical insight.
00:58:21The article
00:58:22in what is known
00:58:23as America's
00:58:24Hollywood Bible
00:58:25gives an insight
00:58:26into the failings
00:58:27of Meghan
00:58:28as a company boss.
00:58:29You don't want
00:58:30that kind of cover story
00:58:32on Vanity Fair
00:58:33about you
00:58:33being like
00:58:35not up to the mark
00:58:36because that's
00:58:37the industry
00:58:38saying
00:58:38what's up here.
00:58:41I think that
00:58:42a lot of the damning
00:58:43that we see
00:58:44of Meghan's brand
00:58:44is the same damning
00:58:45that we have seen
00:58:46from any woman
00:58:47in a high powered position.
00:58:50Go to most companies
00:58:52helmed
00:58:52by strong women
00:58:54and you're going
00:58:54to hear the same thing.
00:58:56The woman's a bitch.
00:58:57If the woman
00:58:59was a man
00:58:59not a bitch
00:59:00smart savvy
00:59:02businessman
00:59:02who makes us
00:59:03all strive
00:59:04he's ambitious
00:59:04he's driven.
00:59:07It also unearths
00:59:09a rumor
00:59:09that makes
00:59:10some extraordinary
00:59:11allegations.
00:59:12The biggest
00:59:13takeaway
00:59:14from the
00:59:15Vanity Fair
00:59:15piece
00:59:16was
00:59:17this rumor
00:59:18that
00:59:18somebody
00:59:19from Meghan's
00:59:20team
00:59:20had been
00:59:21talking about
00:59:22a post-divorce
00:59:23Prince Harry book.
00:59:24Vanity Fair
00:59:26has lawyers
00:59:27that have to
00:59:28comb through
00:59:29every single word.
00:59:30The fact that
00:59:31this remained
00:59:32in that piece
00:59:33and was printed
00:59:34is exceptionally
00:59:36mind-blowing.
00:59:46In the aftermath
00:59:48of this article
00:59:49Meghan tries
00:59:50something different.
00:59:52After appearing
00:59:53side by side
00:59:54with Harry
00:59:54for seven years
00:59:55Meghan
00:59:57branches out
00:59:58alone
00:59:58reinventing
01:00:00herself
01:00:00as a
01:00:01lifestyle
01:00:02mogul.
01:00:03Cat's out
01:00:04of the bag.
01:00:04I'm shocked
01:00:05we've kept
01:00:05this a secret
01:00:06for so long.
01:00:07And this is
01:00:07the moment
01:00:07and it's
01:00:08called
01:00:08As Ever.
01:00:09She launches
01:00:10luxury goods
01:00:11brand
01:00:12As Ever.
01:00:14She's creating
01:00:15her own jams
01:00:16her own wines
01:00:17her own teas.
01:00:18It also feels
01:00:20like they've
01:00:20tried to blend
01:00:21the royal family
01:00:22into who
01:00:22she is.
01:00:24It feels like
01:00:25it's quite royal.
01:00:26It feels like
01:00:27it's emulating
01:00:27from the past.
01:00:28People are still
01:00:29buying into
01:00:29sort of the royal
01:00:31Meghan Markle.
01:00:32As ever,
01:00:33the brand
01:00:33has done well
01:00:35and I think
01:00:36that she could
01:00:37possibly do
01:00:37something with that.
01:00:39You know,
01:00:39if you do it right
01:00:40you can make
01:00:40a lot of money
01:00:41and I think
01:00:42something like
01:00:42the As Ever
01:00:43wine could
01:00:43actually be
01:00:44her sort of
01:00:45golden chariot.
01:00:46It could be
01:00:47the one thing
01:00:47that actually
01:00:48does really
01:00:48well for her.
01:00:50Meghan then
01:00:51shows off
01:00:51her culinary
01:00:52skills
01:00:52on a new
01:00:53Netflix show.
01:00:57I think
01:00:58with love
01:00:59Meghan
01:00:59she's showing
01:01:00you her
01:01:00lifestyle
01:01:00and she's
01:01:01hoping
01:01:02that you
01:01:02will want
01:01:03to emulate
01:01:03that.
01:01:05This
01:01:06we're just
01:01:06going to put
01:01:07into a different
01:01:07bag.
01:01:12I watched
01:01:13and engaged
01:01:13and there is
01:01:15something appealing
01:01:16about her
01:01:17but is it
01:01:17just her
01:01:18beauty?
01:01:18Is it
01:01:19just how
01:01:19chic she is?
01:01:20Is it
01:01:21how perfect
01:01:21she is?
01:01:23And that
01:01:23can only
01:01:24entice people
01:01:25so much.
01:01:26Her whole
01:01:27brand is
01:01:28staked and
01:01:29sold on
01:01:30authenticity
01:01:31and being
01:01:32the true
01:01:32Meghan.
01:01:33This is her
01:01:33true self.
01:01:34Rubbish!
01:01:35It's all
01:01:36a carefully
01:01:37curated
01:01:38artifice.
01:01:40Meghan
01:01:41finds her
01:01:41reinvention
01:01:42is divisive.
01:01:44She has
01:01:45loyal supporters
01:01:45but also
01:01:47many enjoy
01:01:48mocking her.
01:01:49I like
01:01:50to put a
01:01:50beautiful
01:01:50little
01:01:51label on
01:01:51it.
01:01:52It's so
01:01:52darling.
01:01:53So a few
01:01:54things I
01:01:54like to
01:01:54do to
01:01:55really
01:01:55elevate
01:01:56the
01:01:56flavor
01:01:56is add
01:01:59a little
01:01:59bit of
01:01:59my own
01:02:00honey.
01:02:01My own
01:02:02honey.
01:02:04The
01:02:05hard-fought
01:02:05freedom she
01:02:06gained from
01:02:07the royal
01:02:07family has
01:02:08given her
01:02:09the ability
01:02:09to say,
01:02:10do,
01:02:11and post
01:02:12what she
01:02:12wants.
01:02:13She's
01:02:13back on
01:02:14social media
01:02:14and she
01:02:14doesn't
01:02:15realize
01:02:15that
01:02:15everything
01:02:16she
01:02:16says
01:02:16and
01:02:16does
01:02:17now
01:02:17thanks
01:02:17to
01:02:17her
01:02:18proximity
01:02:18to
01:02:18the
01:02:18British
01:02:19royal
01:02:19family
01:02:19is
01:02:20newsworthy
01:02:20and has
01:02:21consequences.
01:02:23The
01:02:23twerking video
01:02:24was so
01:02:24weird.
01:02:30This video
01:02:31was highly
01:02:32choreographed.
01:02:40Nobody
01:02:41really
01:02:41believes it.
01:02:42It just
01:02:42doesn't fit
01:02:43with her
01:02:43curated
01:02:43image.
01:02:50It was
01:02:51such
01:02:52a bizarre
01:02:54misjudgment.
01:02:55The more
01:02:56she does,
01:02:57the worse
01:02:57it seems
01:02:57to get.
01:03:01the Paris
01:03:10Instagram
01:03:11reel.
01:03:12She is
01:03:13filming
01:03:13kind of
01:03:14through the
01:03:14window
01:03:15a night
01:03:15scene.
01:03:16Puts her
01:03:16feet up
01:03:17on the
01:03:17chauffeur-driven
01:03:18car.
01:03:20It's near
01:03:21the Pond d'Almao
01:03:21where her
01:03:24mother-in-law
01:03:25died.
01:03:27It's a classic
01:03:28case of her
01:03:28just not
01:03:29thinking.
01:03:29The night
01:03:30scene Paris.
01:03:32Hang on a
01:03:32sec.
01:03:32This is not
01:03:33a good idea.
01:03:39For someone
01:03:40who prided
01:03:41herself on
01:03:42being so
01:03:43of the
01:03:43moment and
01:03:44always getting
01:03:45things right,
01:03:45she could never
01:03:46quite read the
01:03:46room, not
01:03:47until it was
01:03:48too late.
01:03:49Once a
01:03:50potential
01:03:50Hollywood big
01:03:51hitter,
01:03:52Meghan now
01:03:53faces a fight
01:03:54to stay
01:03:54relevant.
01:03:55She's lost
01:03:56her Netflix
01:03:57deal in that
01:03:58she's now
01:03:58got a
01:03:58first look
01:03:59deal.
01:04:00That's a
01:04:01downgrade.
01:04:02They're saying,
01:04:03hey, make
01:04:03sure you share
01:04:04your ideas
01:04:05with us, but
01:04:05not exclusively.
01:04:07She's not
01:04:08guaranteed for
01:04:09a third
01:04:09series of
01:04:11We'd Love
01:04:11Meghan.
01:04:12So I think
01:04:12it's a really
01:04:13crucial time
01:04:13for Meghan.
01:04:14She's going
01:04:14to want to
01:04:15secure something
01:04:16that allows
01:04:17her career
01:04:18to continue.
01:04:24Meghan is
01:04:25seen on
01:04:25the streets
01:04:25of LA
01:04:26where she
01:04:27is pivoting
01:04:28once more.
01:04:29This photo
01:04:30shows Meghan
01:04:31relishing her
01:04:32return to a
01:04:33film set where
01:04:34she's reportedly
01:04:34playing herself.
01:04:37Maybe she is
01:04:38just an actress
01:04:38and what's going
01:04:40wrong for her
01:04:40is she's trying
01:04:41to be everything
01:04:42but.
01:04:43It could be
01:04:43the acting
01:04:44is what she
01:04:44should be
01:04:45doing.
01:04:46Ready?
01:04:48Next,
01:04:48five.
01:04:48The world
01:04:52now waits
01:04:53for Meghan's
01:04:53next move
01:04:54and wonders
01:04:56what the future
01:04:56looks like
01:04:57for her
01:04:57and if it
01:04:58includes
01:04:59those she
01:04:59once called
01:05:00family.
01:05:02The royal family
01:05:03are not going
01:05:04to welcome
01:05:04Meghan back
01:05:05any time soon.
01:05:06We know that
01:05:07King Charles
01:05:07has welcomed
01:05:08Harry back
01:05:08and had a
01:05:09meeting with
01:05:09him at
01:05:09Clarence's
01:05:10house.
01:05:11Harry does
01:05:12definitely want
01:05:12to bring his
01:05:12children back
01:05:13to the UK.
01:05:14He wants to
01:05:14show them
01:05:14where he grew
01:05:15up.
01:05:15He wants
01:05:15them to
01:05:15meet his
01:05:16family.
01:05:17His father
01:05:17in particular.
01:05:19Meghan doesn't
01:05:19have that
01:05:19same link.
01:05:22I wouldn't
01:05:22be surprised
01:05:22if she never
01:05:23returns to
01:05:23the UK.
01:05:29Meghan's
01:05:29journey has
01:05:30been one
01:05:31of perseverance,
01:05:32ambition,
01:05:34and reinvention.
01:05:35Meghan has
01:05:36come from
01:05:37being the
01:05:37daughter of
01:05:38Hollywood
01:05:38Lighting
01:05:39Man who
01:05:40was a
01:05:40jobbing
01:05:40actress who
01:05:41went on
01:05:42to then
01:05:42become a
01:05:43superstar by
01:05:44marrying a
01:05:44royal.
01:05:47You know,
01:05:47it's a
01:05:48fantastic
01:05:48trajectory.
01:05:49And actually
01:05:50she's thriving.
01:05:53She has
01:05:53never given
01:05:54up.
01:05:55Some things
01:05:55have gone
01:05:56really well,
01:05:57some things
01:05:57have gone
01:05:58really badly.
01:06:00But she's
01:06:02really managing
01:06:03to capitalise
01:06:04on her
01:06:04profile.
01:06:05Meghan and
01:06:06Harry!
01:06:07Is she
01:06:08this ambitious,
01:06:10fierce actress
01:06:11in the
01:06:12tight body
01:06:13con dresses
01:06:14making eye
01:06:16contact with
01:06:16every photographer
01:06:17on the red
01:06:18carpet who
01:06:19wants to
01:06:19take over
01:06:20the world?
01:06:22Or is it
01:06:23the shy
01:06:24woman touching
01:06:25every baby
01:06:26and dog down
01:06:28a royal engagement
01:06:29line who wants
01:06:30to change the
01:06:31world and make
01:06:32it a better
01:06:32place?
01:06:33No, this is
01:06:34just the beginning
01:06:34of that discovery.
01:06:35The thing that's
01:06:36compelling is that
01:06:38we can't predict
01:06:38what Meghan's
01:06:40going to do
01:06:41next.
01:06:41See you all right.
01:07:11See you all.
