00:00Shaksgaam Valley is Indian territory.
00:03India has opposed Chinese infrastructure activity in the Shaksgaam Valley near Siachen Glacier.
00:07We have never recognized the so-called China-Pakistan boundary agreement that happened in 1963.
00:15Let's take a quick look at the history of the Shaksgaam Valley.
00:18The region was considered part of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir
00:21under the Dogra rulers in post-India's partition.
00:24And with the accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India,
00:26the Shaksgaam Valley became a part of India too.
00:28The entire Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are an integral and ineligible part of India.
00:35But during the Indo-Pakistani war of 1947, Pakistan captured the territory
00:39and it became a part of the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
00:42The turning point came in 1963 when Pakistan ceded the Shaksgaam Valley to China
00:46when it signed a border agreement with Beijing to settle their border disputes.
00:50We have consistently maintained that the agreement is illegal and invalid.
00:55The strategic importance.
00:57The Shaksgaam Valley is strategically vital because it lies at the junction of China, Pakistan and India.
01:02Offering control over high altitude routes in the Karakoram range.
01:05For China and Pakistan, it secures their shared frontier and strengthens military and connectivity links near Ladakh and Xinjiang.
01:12The recent remarks by the MEA came after a query on reports that China is constructing a long all-weather road in the Shaksgaam Valley.
01:23According to reports, nearly 75 km of the road, estimated to be around 10 meters wide, has already been completed,
01:30with construction continuing at a rapid pace.
