00:00We're about to go eat our food.
00:02Jenea is just a super amazing young lady.
00:06Her brother, Donnell, was our fashionista in our family.
00:11I'm trying to win a prize.
00:13Roy was the guy that would make her laugh and giggle.
00:18But he was so focused on his success
00:22that he didn't pay attention to hers.
00:24And Roy has a temper.
00:27This is someone who felt like he had been wronged.
00:30I'm concerned about what she has to lose
00:33if her and her keep going in this direction.
00:36Oh, fuck, fuck!
00:38Oh, gunfire's going off again.
00:41We have heads, and that wasn't in our plans.
00:57I'm going to win something, then I'm going to give it to you.

01:15A very pregnant Jenea Logan is hosting a baby shower
01:21Say hi.
01:22For her friends, family, and partner, Roy Harvison,
01:25at her 24-hour daycare business.
01:28Jenea is just a super amazing young lady.
01:34You knew there was going to be some good gift-giving
01:37if Jenea was doing something.
01:39Come on, man.
01:40I don't need to introduce nobody.
01:42I'm trying to win some prizes.
01:45And Jenea's little brother,
01:46Danelle Puder McDonald, looks to cash in.
01:50I'm trying to win a prize.
01:51What's the way?
01:53What's the way?
01:54I'm trying to win a prize.
01:55He was a character, amazing young man,
01:58very quiet, very soft-spoken,
02:01but he was also our fashionista in our family.
02:05His sisters and his brother's squad team,
02:07especially Jenea.
02:09A few weeks later, Jenea hosts a family Christmas
02:13with her partner, Roy Harvison.
02:17It's Christmas time.
02:19You say it was good.
02:21That was Roy.
02:22That was his personality.
02:24It was always good to, you know,
02:29just be around each other and do something.
02:32It was always fun.
02:33I think just the thought of bringing the little person
02:36into the world, they were happy and excited.
02:40A family, a little family is what she wanted.
02:46I am a mother of four children.
02:48So Tyranny is my oldest daughter.
02:50Jenea is the second oldest.
02:53Christopher is the third.
02:56And then Donnell was the youngest,
02:58and he was born in 1992.
03:03My children grew up where there were times
03:06when the electric wasn't on, the water wasn't on,
03:10the car was repossessed, food was tight.
03:15They grew up understanding that you're going to have to work
03:20for whatever you want, that it's not going to come to you.
03:24Jenea, she knew what she wanted to do.
03:27She did her work, went to work,
03:30and did it all over again the next day.
03:32Jenea was a 4.0 student, top 10 graduating in her class.
03:37That right there just tells you how much education in general
03:41just meant to her.
03:42She got a full ride, didn't have to pay anything.
03:45Summer 2005, Jenea reaches the end of her first year at Ohio State.
03:51And when her youngest brother, Donnell, has a basketball tournament,
03:55she goes to support him.
03:57Tyranny, Jenea, myself, were there to see Donnell play.
04:03At some point during the tournament,
04:05Jenea sees this guy playing in one of the games.
04:09The two of them found time to introduce themselves,
04:12exchange phone numbers or whatever they did in that moment.
04:16So she came to me and said,
04:18hey, I met this guy, he's really cute, he has dreads,
04:24and I really like him.
04:27We've been hanging out.
04:28And I'm just like, well, who is he?
04:31She explains, well, his name is Roy.
04:35We were 19 at the time.
04:37She knew he was still in high school,
04:40but I think she thought he was like a senior,
04:43getting ready to graduate.
04:46You know, you give people the benefit of the doubt,
04:49and you just roll with things.
04:51But she was really smitten by him.
04:54Roy at that time was living with his dad
04:58and his paternal grandmother raising him.
05:02He was into sports because he played basketball and football,
05:06but football was where he really did his thing.
05:10He had a lot of local success.
05:13So you could kind of see why his family would anticipate there could be a career,
05:18you know, at a college level and potentially a national level.
05:22He had some skills.
05:24In 2006, despite a four-year age gap,
05:28Roy and Jenea officially become a couple.
05:31Donnell had a hard time accepting that his sister was dating someone
05:36who was, you know, pretty much the same age as he was.
05:40But we all kind of, I think,
05:43began to just accept that Jenea and Roy were going to be together.
05:46He was the guy that would do the goofy little quirky things
05:51that made her laugh and giggle.
05:54So she was happy.
05:59And by 2008, Donnell meets the next door neighbor's daughter, Mary.
06:05So now he's more focused on his life.
06:09I met Donnell maybe like early 2008.
06:12I lived on this end.
06:14He lived on the other side of me.
06:16And one day my grandma had seen him and she said,
06:19that's a nice looking young man.
06:21You know, maybe you should date him.
06:23I wasn't really too worried about boys at that time.
06:26But soon after she said that, we end up, you know, talking.
06:29We hanging out more.
06:30And here comes the relationship.
06:33He always treated me nice, you know, with respect.
06:35So we could laugh together, you know, cry together, play around.
06:40They were a cute little couple.
06:42They was always together.
06:44So he was involved with his relationship.
06:47Jenea was in hers and I was raising my child.
06:50So everybody was doing their own thing.
06:52Three years after their first meeting in 2005,
06:58Jenea and Roy realized their priorities are changing.
07:02Jenea was trying to help him achieve the dream that he wanted to achieve.
07:08So she supported him in every way she could,
07:11especially once he went to Kansas to play football.
07:14She was prepared for being there in whatever way possible.
07:19But Jenea knows that she's not going to be able to be fully present all the time.
07:27Jenea She graduated from Ohio State in May of 08, summa cum laude, while still working two full-time jobs those whole four years.
07:38And in August of 08, she opened her first 24-hour child care center.
07:44She was 22 years old at the time.
07:46Jenea They get a lot of love, a lot of attention, a lot of flexibility.
07:51Jenea One of the things that was great about Success Kids was being a 24-hour center.
07:57Jenea We had the opportunity to really support families in the community that work non-traditional hours.
08:05Jenea It was a very stressful time for her because Roy's in school in Kansas,
08:12so I don't know if he understood all the responsibility that she had,
08:16because your first year is your hardest.
08:18And I think that's where some of that friction starts.
08:22And she heard rumors about infidelity.
08:26Jenea I don't think he knew how important it was to respect someone that you're dating.
08:32Jenea So she finds out that for certain Roy was cheating, and she wants to confront him.
08:39Jenea And I decided I'm going to go with her because I'm not sure what may happen.
08:44Jenea I stayed in the car, she got out, and I hear yelling.
08:51Jenea I look out, and I no longer kind of like to see her, but I hear her.
08:58Jenea I don't know who hit who first, but he is pulling her by her hair.
09:06Jenea That's when I was like, okay, let's go.
09:09Jenea got in the car, and she was very, very upset, not only about hearing about the infidelity,
09:17but what had just kind of like transpired.
09:20Jenea She was hurt by his reaction.
09:24She didn't want to go through that with him.
09:27Jenea But I think we attributed it to him being younger.
09:33Jenea He don't really know how to express his feelings or be apologetic like how he should be.
09:40Jenea I wasn't for sure where they were going to go from there.
09:44Jenea I didn't think he would be violent.
09:47Jenea Nobody saw that coming.
09:49Jenea Roy's aggression towards Jenea puts a long planned trip to Jamaica in jeopardy.
10:08Jenea It was a matter of if she was going to go by herself or if she was still going to have Roy go with her.
10:17Jenea And she decided to allow Roy to go on this trip.
10:22Jenea The whole time they were there, she said, we weren't getting along.
10:27Jenea But the last day they decided to drink the champagne and one thing led to another.
10:34Jenea And several months later, it's mom, I'm pregnant.
10:39Jenea That was definitely a turning point for everything.
10:48Jenea Now they are going to be parents.
10:52Jenea She knew I'd like to give this another go and try to make it work.
11:02Jenea While Jenea rests in preparation for the baby, Roy fools around with his friends.
11:08Jenea As nice and as sweet as he could be, this was also that side of him.
11:14Jenea She didn't talk like that, so, you know, she kind of didn't like that type of stuff.
11:25Jenea I hold my killer back here, man.
11:28Jenea You sit down and you're telling me.
11:29Jenea Yeah, pop, pop.
11:32Jenea Like the hand gestures and the language and stuff, that's just, that's things that he did.
11:41Jenea That was him on the sober day.
11:48Jenea So that's how he kind of carried himself and talked.
11:52Jenea Being young, he's still trying to figure out his life.
11:58Jenea Still trying to figure out what he's doing.
12:03Jenea She's already of that age where she's in that different type of lifestyle.
12:09Jenea That age gap plays a major part in their relationship.
12:17Jenea February 2010.
12:20Jenea and Roy welcome Roy Jr. into the world.
12:26Jenea We were all excited and happy to watch them grow into new parents.
12:33Jenea Daddy!
12:35Jenea It's your first time on camera!
12:39Jenea But in the beginning, it is just her and the baby.
12:47Roy is away at school.
12:49Jenea She just supported him.
12:53Jenea She paid for him to go to school to make sure he was able to complete the dream
12:57that he wanted to do, which was play college football.
13:00Jenea I took a bite, my baby!
13:02Jenea But he's not helping with anything with Roy Jr.
13:07Jenea Say bye-bye!
13:08Jenea And Jenea starts making statements, believing that Roy is being selfish.
13:16Jenea She has so many responsibilities for this child on top of being a businesswoman.
13:23Jenea But I think that he was so focused on his success that he didn't pay attention to hers.
13:32Jenea She wasn't making a very big name for herself, because by then we'd been working on the second center.
13:38Jenea The success of the daycares really came from the need in the community, and so in a matter of a couple of years, there was a 24-hour daycare center on every side of town.
13:51Jenea She hired a lot of people, a lot of siblings, and if you were of age, she would always try to offer you some type of employment.
13:59Jenea Donnell, he was just next in line.
14:02Jenea After high school, Donnell didn't know if he really wanted to go to school.
14:07Jenea He was always changing what he wanted to do.
14:11Jenea was a problem solver.
14:13Jenea So you ain't got no job, I got plenty of work here at the daycare.
14:16Jenea I did.
14:17Jenea I did.
14:18Jenea I did.
14:19Jenea I did.
14:20Jenea I did.
14:21Jenea I did.
14:22Jenea I did.
14:23Jenea I did.
14:24Jenea I did.
14:25Jenea I did.
14:26Jenea I did.
14:27Jenea Oh.
14:28Jenea This is the backyard of her house and canal.
14:32Jenea One month after Roy Jr. is born, Jenea buys her first home.
14:37Jenea Most people our age weren't able to afford a house like that.
14:42Jenea That was a big, huge accomplishment.
14:46Jenea Ask her if she thinking about Roy.
14:49Jenea You thinking about Roy?
14:51Jenea Yeah.
14:52Jenea Yeah.
14:53Jenea Yeah.
14:54Jenea Yeah.
14:55Jenea But because the purchase and the responsibility was solely coming from her and the business,
15:02Jenea I think she didn't involve Roy that much.
15:06Jenea While Roy spends most of his time away building his football career,
15:12Jenea Whenever he can, he comes home to be with Jenea and their baby boy.
15:17Jenea This is where the arguments and the disagreements will come in.
15:22Jenea Roy would berate her saying things like she wasn't a good mother.
15:30Jenea That she was more worried about success than she was the family because she was spending so much time at work.
15:41Jenea And those things weighed heavy on her.
15:44Jenea She couldn't hurt him with her words, so her way of getting back at him was to cut his phone off,
15:54Jenea Throw clothes out of windows, cut tires, and cut off credit cards.
15:59Jenea They would break up sometimes, but they always kind of like got back together.
16:09Jenea Seven months after Roy Jr. is born, Roy Sr. returns to Ohio to continue his college football career at Urbana University.
16:23Jenea She hoped for a change with the move to Urbana because it's a lot closer.
16:29Jenea But, you know, it was kind of more of a disappointment because now we don't have the distance as being the issue.
16:37Jenea She's created this very easy lifestyle for him where he can put out the credit card and it's never going to decline.
16:47Jenea But he doesn't see that comes with a burden and a sense of responsibility that she's carrying alone.
16:57Jenea She stayed simply because she wanted her kids to have their mother and their father in the household.
17:07Jenea In August 2011, Jenea completes her vision of the perfect family when she marries Roy.
17:15Jenea Roy would not have been my first choice as her husband.
17:21Jenea I respected her reasoning behind it because she wanted her child to have that family unit.
17:31Jenea What are you, Roy?
17:33Jenea Say, trick or treat.
17:35Jenea Say, trick or treat.
17:37Jenea Say, trick or treat.
17:38Jenea Say, Halloween.
17:40Jenea And I think they both tried to the best of their ability for a long time to make that happen.
17:48Jenea Oh, you dropped your hat, Roy.
17:50Jenea Oh.
17:51Jenea Did you drop your hat, baby?
17:54Jenea Your hat?
17:56Jenea Yeah, yeah.
17:58Jenea She's starting to, at this point, like spend more money to make him feel happy.
18:05Jenea And I do think that he took her for granted at times.
18:10Jenea Donnell, he starts to feel like Roy is financially taking advantage.
18:18Jenea would often share with me that she was not happy with a lot of the decisions that he was making.
18:24Jenea And she's looking at the credit card statements and going, what did you buy at the pawn shop that you spent $4,000 on?
18:33Jenea And it would be, oh, well, you know, we went and I bought some jewelry for me and my brother or I bought a gun.
18:41Jenea As much as he is a funny guy and he's a jokester, he can turn that very quickly.
18:48Jenea And her concern always was, Roy has a temper.
18:52Jenea He will do something stupid that will land him in prison.
18:55Jenea In 2013, Roy sees his dream of being drafted fall away.
19:15Jenea He never becomes the standout athlete that his family thought he would become.
19:23Jenea That never happens.
19:24Jenea There was some potential there, but Roy's downside was Roy's anger.
19:30Jenea I think that is ultimately what decreased his ability to go to the next level.
19:39Jenea And as Jenea is pregnant with her second child, we hope he's now going to come home and he's going to assume the responsibility of a partner, a husband, a father.
19:54Jenea May 2013, Jenea gives birth to a baby girl, Royce.
20:01Jenea Three and a half weeks later, Danelle becomes a dad for the first time.
20:07Jenea He loved that kid.
20:10Jenea He loved that baby.
20:12Jenea He gave him more attention than me, so.
20:15Jenea We always used to find ourselves arguing all the time about who's taking him for the day.
20:24Jenea He's like, I'm taking him for the day.
20:26Jenea He's like, I'm taking him for the day.
20:27Jenea And of course he would pick up slack because of course I'm a first time mom, so sometimes I would be calling him all the time when he's at work and I'm crying like I don't know what to do, I can't get him to be quiet.
20:36Jenea He's like, do this, do that.
20:38Jenea He was like a teacher to me all the time.
20:41Jenea To Jenea's disappointment, when Roy leaves college and returns home, he doesn't follow Danelle's parenting lead.
20:49Jenea would say, I'm going to have a girls night out and Roy, you watch the kids.
20:54Jenea She would call a check on one and Roy's went somewhere and he's either taking the kids to the daycare center or he's taking them to his dad's house and she's like, that's not you being responsible.
21:07Jenea So, Jenea hired a nanny because it was hard for her to manage everything.
21:14Jenea She could not rely on Roy 100% to fill in those voids.
21:20Jenea So, I think she started to feel like she wanted to have him be a part of the business.
21:27Jenea This is her way of giving him an opportunity to become that responsible person.
21:34Jenea It looks good in the beginning, but then it's the same thing.
21:40Jenea She just got to that point where Roy was like, you're not my child.
21:44Jenea You got to start carrying some weight too.
21:47Jenea She was trying to have him play a more important role financially and within the marriage and household.
21:56Jenea But Roy struggles with his new financial responsibilities and tensions boil over at home.
22:03Jenea In that sense, he started acting out.
22:06Jenea I'm hearing about how he is punching the wall, kicking in the door or something.
22:15Jenea And then we start to hear of these physical altercations that they're having in public where he felt like she, either she said something or she had done something that was inappropriate that maybe embarrassed him.
22:33Jenea I'm concerned about what she has to lose if her and her keep going in this direction.
22:40Jenea And Jenea was like, I can't live like this. I got all these things going for myself and I'm not happy. If that means that we're not together and we're co-parenting, then I'm ready to pursue that as something new.
22:56Jenea In August 2014, Roy leaves the family home.
23:01Jenea Roy was living down the street from me in apartments. He wasn't excluded from anything.
23:08Jenea We just knew they were working through whatever they were working through and that was their business.
23:14Jenea A month later, Jenea files for divorce.
23:18Jenea I don't believe that he really thought that that was ever going to happen.
23:24Jenea I think he believed that it was just another one of those, yeah, Jenea is just talking, give her a couple of days or a week or two, we'll be back together type of situation.
23:34Jenea He still was working with us. It wasn't like she, you know, said you can't, you're fired, you're not working with us anymore, you have to do your own thing.
23:42Jenea But he didn't have access to like her credit cards or anything like that.
23:47Jenea At this point, she's pretty much, you need to stand on your own with the salary that you're receiving.
23:52Jenea And so this meant big lifestyle change.
23:55Jenea Now all of this jewelry and all of these guns collectors pieces become things that you need to get rid of to take care of your responsibility.
24:08Jenea For him, it was this big culture shock.
24:13Jenea And in his moments of desperation, he made a lot of really bad choices and decisions.
24:21Jenea As Jenea struggles with Roy, Danelle surprises Mary.
24:28Jenea Valentine's Day or the day after Valentine's Day, we went to a jewelry store downtown.
24:34Jenea And he's like, you know, pick out what ring you want, what ring do you want?
24:38Jenea And I said, what you up to?
24:40Jenea He was like, well, you said you was going to leave me, you know, when you was 21, if I didn't marry you.
24:45Jenea I don't want to lose you and I don't want to be without my son, you know, I want us to be a family.
24:50Jenea A month later, Roy decides to follow in Danelle's footsteps and makes a move to show his commitment to Jenea.
24:59Jenea Roy came to me and he said, do you think if I threw Jenea a birthday party that she would come?
25:05And I said, yeah.
25:06Jenea That's her 29th birthday party.
25:17Jenea and Roy were happy.
25:20Jenea They were together.
25:21Jenea And for a few days, things were great.
25:23Jenea But that Sunday, Roy said to my oldest son Christopher, you ain't got to look for a place to stay because I'm going to be moving back home.
25:33You can move into the apartment and Jenea was like, no, not happening.
25:36Jenea And he kind of looked at her like, yeah, whatever, you know, I'm going to move back home.
25:42Jenea The next day, I went to her house and she just very calmly was like, you know, mom, he's going to make me get a restraining order.
25:51Jenea The very following day, April 1st, the office was closed.
25:56Jenea We had scheduled a training session.
26:00Jenea The class was supposed to be myself, Jenea, Tierney, Donnell and Big Roy.
26:06Jenea But Jenea said, he's not coming.
26:09Jenea I just can't wait for this divorce to be over and kind of said, OK, and we started the class.
26:14Jenea 1130 rolls around and we take a break for lunch.
26:20Jenea I left.
26:22Jenea And Donnell were going outside.
26:25Jenea The fact that we needed to go just a couple of blocks away is what has me here today.
26:35Jenea I saw him, he had a gun and he shot this person in the middle of the street.
26:48Jenea 9-1-1, what's your emergency?
26:59Jenea Yeah, there's a guy who just shot two people at custody.
27:03Jenea He's leaning over the guy right now.
27:07Jenea He's hiding behind a silver Camaro.
27:10Jenea Two plainclothes officers drive down Parsons Avenue and witness an active shooter.
27:16Jenea He's about to start shooting at Bill.
27:18Jenea You need to cross him back up for Bill.
27:20Jenea Got a suspect shot two people.
27:22Jenea He's in the car now.
27:23Jenea We got him pinned down.
27:25Jenea You got to send us a 10-3.
27:26Jenea Listen, we got officers coming out there.
27:28Jenea Is there an officer shot?
27:29Jenea Not yet.
27:30Jenea I'm giving my partner a ride back to the precinct substation to pick up his cruiser.
27:39Jenea When we heard an alert call go over the CPD radio.
27:43Jenea The next thing I know, we're in the scene.
27:48Jenea I can see one male slumped over the wheel in the parking lot of a daycare.
27:57Jenea I see a female face down in the middle of the street.
28:02Jenea And our shooter at the time had his back to me.
28:05Jenea It looked like he was rifling through the car or doing something with the male slumped over the wheel.
28:10Jenea My immediate thought was active shooter.
28:13Jenea I have to stop this guy before he gets into the daycare.
28:16Jenea He starts to turn to put his attention on us.
28:20Jenea That's when I see the gun.
28:21Jenea In a matter of a few seconds, we're trying to comprehend everything that's going on here.
28:26Jenea I'm thinking about what's my backdrop if I have to discharge my firearm?
28:30Jenea Where are these rounds going?
28:32Jenea If he's shooting at me, where are those rounds going?
28:34Jenea We give loud verbal commands, drop the gun, drop the gun.
28:39Jenea He looked at us and he said, you're going to have to kill me.
28:44Jenea It felt like time slowed.
28:46Jenea It felt like 20 minutes.
28:48Jenea I know it was a matter of seconds.
28:50Jenea He starts to raise that firearm.
28:52Jenea He's refusing to drop that gun and it's time for us to act.
28:56Jenea Oh, gunfire is going off again.
29:01Jenea They shot him.
29:02Jenea Oh, they just got him.
29:03Jenea They just shot that guy.
29:04Jenea They shot the suspect.
29:06Jenea I fired multiple rounds.
29:09Jenea He fell to the pavement.
29:11Jenea The gun fell from his body.
29:13Jenea He was motionless.
29:14Jenea He wasn't talking.
29:15Jenea We thought he was dead.
29:18Jenea I remember I was the first to get on the air with the walkie and asked for three
29:22medics for three possible DOAs.
29:25Jenea It wasn't until the first uniformed back-up officer arrived that I really just took a deep breath
29:31and just started to soak in the gravity of the situation that we had just stumbled upon.
29:36Jenea It was immediately apparent to our medics that the two victims were deceased.
29:43Jenea I didn't realize our suspect was alive.
29:47Jenea Medics rushed to save the suspect as officers secure the
29:52Jenea Because we were involved in a police officer involved shooting.
29:57Jenea We are removed fairly quickly and backup officers come in and tape off our scene secure
30:03everything so that it was untouched.
30:05Jenea We have a crime scene search unit who will come in and work the inner perimeter of
30:11that scene and collect that firearm.
30:14Jenea They're collecting samples.
30:16Jenea They're looking for where rounds ended up his rounds and ours.
30:21Jenea We're taking photographs.
30:23Jenea We're trying to determine who we're dealing with, what occurred here.
30:28Jenea As the crowd grows, news of the incident starts to spread.
30:33Jenea Tierney and I were pulling into a fast food restaurant and my phone rang.
30:41Jenea And I looked down at the caller ID and I seen it was our staff member who was filling in at the class for Big Roy.
30:49Jenea She screamed that Mr. Roy just shot and killed Ms. J and Mr. D.
30:56Jenea Miss J and Mr. D is what the staff affectionately call Jenea and Donnell.
31:09Jenea So I'm like, what's going on?
31:12Jenea She's just like, drive, drive.
31:14Jenea She's saying like, he just shot my babies.
31:17Jenea I'm just driving, trying to get down the street as fast as I could and got to the end of the alley.
31:22Jenea I seen Jenea laying in the middle of the street.
31:27Jenea's body was laying face down in a pool of blood.
31:36Jenea There was the yellow police tape and police cars and there was a crowd of people.
31:46Jenea We were just trying to figure out what's going on when the police escorted us and put us in the back of a police cruiser.
31:53Jenea I never seen Donnell.
31:56Jenea All I know is he was laying in the car.
31:58Jenea I just hear them, come over and pronounce them over the radio, that they both were gone.
32:08Jenea The way it was positioned, that police car allowed me for a long period of time to continue to look at Jenea's body lying there in the street.
32:22Jenea I couldn't even rationalize what was happening.
32:27Jenea As Crystal and Tierney process what they are seeing, EMT's Russian injured Roy to the hospital.
32:33Jenea To shoot Donnell who had nothing to do with it, it just wasn't.
32:37Jenea There was no call for.
32:39Jenea I just think just because he was there, he just, he killed them too.
32:44Jenea We talked to Crystal and she's forthcoming and telling us that there were some issues.
32:52Jenea was trying to divorce Roy and that there have been some threats and some back and forth where she wants to break it off, he doesn't want to.
33:04Jenea And I think that's the, the huge intervening factor here.
33:09Jenea Prosecutor James Lowe starts to piece together how the incident has unfolded.
33:15Jenea It was not a clear perfect video of the entire crime at all.
33:20Jenea Which is why surveillance videos and witnesses are so important together.
33:25Jenea The witness can put the video in perspective and show you what you don't know you're looking at unless you were there.
33:33Jenea Tell me what exactly happened, what you saw.
33:35Jenea I've heard four gunshots, saw a guy, fire shot then walk over to the street where Kosseth is where a girl had run out and shoot her and then basically run back and shoot someone in the car.
33:53Jenea You say he shot her, how many shots do you think he fired up?
33:56Jenea Two.
33:57Jenea He shot at the officers?
33:59Jenea Yeah.
34:00Jenea And there was return fire.
34:02Jenea It wasn't that Danelle got out of the car and they had an argument and said something and they shot him.
34:13Jenea It's that he walks right up, shoots Danelle, then he shoots Jenea and then comes back and makes sure that Danelle is dead by shooting him again.
34:26Jenea She is stumbling into the roadway and instead of just letting her stay there, he walks up to her, points the gun and shoots her in the head.
34:38Jenea I mean that to me is unbelievably barbaric and to do that to family members, you know, your kid's uncle and your kid's mother, it's horrific.
34:52Jenea That's not, you know, I'm upset and I shot someone, I lost it.
34:57Jenea That's an execution.
34:59Jenea We got a double homicide.
35:01Jenea It was in broad daylight.
35:02Jenea There's several witnesses.
35:03Jenea We've got a suspect and I was told he was expected to survive.
35:09Jenea Now I'm looking for is enough of a mode to explain why someone would lose their mind and do something so horrific.
35:15Jenea You're always looking for the reason why.
35:30Jenea So please attempt to interview him.
35:33Jenea They need to figure out what his mindset was and why he might have done something like this unprovoked.
35:39Jenea But Roy invoked his rights not to talk and asked for a lawyer.
35:43Jenea We had obviously the right person since he shot on the scene.
35:47Jenea I had witness statements.
35:49Jenea I had the surveillance videos from different angles.
35:52Jenea But I'm looking for more information.
35:57Jenea Officers look into Roy's movements on the day of the murders and make an unexpected discovery.
36:04Jenea We found he's going to pawn shops and gun stores actively trying to get a gun.
36:12Jenea And when he was unsuccessful, he shows up with a gun that had its serial number scratched off.
36:19Jenea I don't know when he got this gun, but it appears to me he's been planning this altercation at least that day.
36:29Jenea He knows where Jenea is.
36:31Jenea He knows where most of the family are and gets out and just starts shooting right away.
36:37Jenea There is no intervening acts at all.
36:44Jenea I'm going there to murder these people and that's exactly what he did.
36:48Jenea Officers are not charged with any wrongdoing in the shooting of Roy Harveston
36:52and now have clear evidence he prepared for the attack.
36:55Jenea They are still trying to understand why Danelle gets taken out first.
36:59Jenea This is someone who felt like he had been wronged.
37:02Jenea And I think Roy was worried about Danelle getting out of the car and interfering with him murdering his wife.
37:10Jenea So I think that's why he pulls up and he blocks the car.
37:14Jenea Danelle, he's a, what I consider an innocent bystander.
37:20Jenea He was not the target.
37:22Jenea So that day I went on my lunch break and that's when I got the phone call from one of Roy's sisters who work at the daycare.
37:30Jenea She said, Nanelle got shot and Nanelle got shot.
37:34Jenea I could tell in her voice she real frantic.
37:37Jenea She said, you know, just go straight to the hospital.
37:39Jenea And then Crystal calls me.
37:41Jenea And she says, sit down.
37:43Jenea And I said, nope, just tell me what's going on.
37:45Jenea And she said, he's gone.
37:47Jenea And I just felt...
37:49Jenea I just felt...
37:52Jenea I just felt like a part of me just leave.
38:02Jenea This is somebody that I've spent most of my life with.
38:07Jenea And we was together all the time.
38:10Jenea This is my first love, everything.
38:12Jenea And I expected it to be with him for the rest of my life.
38:16Jenea And we have hands and that wasn't in our plans.
38:19Jenea As the family come to terms with their grief, Roy faces court.
38:31Roy We indicted him with two counts of aggravated murder based on purposeful and prior calculation design,
38:38Jenea Along with death penalty specifications for killing two or more individuals.
38:43Jenea To the family's dismay, Roy's defense team draws out the proceedings.
38:48Jenea For three years, he pled not guilty.
38:51Jenea And during the course of those three years, my daily prayer was,
38:59Jenea Lord, change his heart and I don't want to go through a trial.
39:06Jenea I knew at that point in my life emotionally, I couldn't handle it.
39:11Roy I got a call from Crystal who told me she was rethinking the death penalty and opened negotiations up.
39:21Jenea January 19, 2018.
39:25Roy Harvison finally stands before a judge to accept a plea deal of 66 years to life for the murders of Jenea and Donnell.
39:34Jenea This is as violent as it gets.
39:36Jenea Everyone that he knew or touched or cared for at some time was affected by his actions that day.
39:45Jenea And continue to be affected by what happened.
39:49Jenea I struggle with, what did we do to you other than love you?
39:54Jenea We're not a perfect family.
39:56Jenea Didn't say we got it all right, but I just don't believe that there is nothing that my daughter could have ever done to him.
40:04Jenea That would want you to take in her life in the way that you did, including her brother who was innocent to whatever was going on in their marriage.
40:17Jenea And just destroying our family that way.
40:20Jenea I still don't understand it.
40:22Jenea I still don't get it.
40:23Jenea I walk back my own words of I forgive you because sitting here today, I can't, I can't forgive him for his actions that have now changed our lives forever.
40:43Jenea Falling!
40:44Jenea was a dedicated mother, someone who was trying to be a positive change in the community.
40:55She was a pioneer before she knew she was a pioneer.
40:59Jenea He was just a young, young loving guy, a great father, and someone who was still trying to find their purpose.
41:10Jenea Life would probably be a lot different if they still were here.
