At the Malaysian Chinese Youth Summit on Saturday (Jan 10), MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong highlighted the strategic importance of Asean’s youthful population, with nearly half under 40, as a driver of regional growth and international trade.

He urged Malaysian youth to seize opportunities amid rapid technological development, including initiatives like the National Semiconductor Strategy, and stressed the need for Malaysia to retain its talent to fully leverage its economic potential.

00:00today's forum is very timely as Chinese Malaysian especially the Malaysian Chinese youth they are
00:10facing these tremendous challenges in years to come and especially when we deal with the
00:19green technology that you talk about the more what we call environmental friendly and beyond as well
00:32as the new economy that we are going to equip ourselves otherwise will be disqualified and we
00:43have to cope with the pace of development especially advancement of the technology so I think in this
00:51regard I hope that this conference can come up with some suggestion this one second is the I think
01:01they are quite concerned on the policy that to reduce this age instead of 40 to 30 because based
01:11on the Majlis Malaysia's statistics eight to seven to youth bodies 90% will be disqualified because
01:25they do not have sufficient members so that shows it's a sudden it's a too drastic changes to many
01:35of the organization that they cannot function so whether or not the policy in the future
01:41they only will help I mean the youth definition by definition is 30 years old and in future they
01:48only assist those below 30 so if that is the case then the policy change that a lot of people need to
01:56adapt themselves so I think this one yet to be answered and we should listen to the main organizations
02:04that youth organizations here and listen to the football so besides that I think for the last five years I
02:13mentioned 61 1116 Malaysians so they have already what they call the surrendered the citizenship and they're converted
02:2893.78 percent they become Singaporean so I think it's to us it's a waste because we train these people but I mean this
02:40is life some of them they receive education there and because of their dreams that they can pursue in Singapore so I think Malaysia we have the potential and that's why we need to retain the talents in Malaysia
02:55and our market is big enough I think our potential is big enough
