00:30Stay in the car! Stay in the car!
00:36He was intending to injure or kill me.
00:40We're behind this, uh, single cab newer Silverado that's scraping in black.
00:46Looks like they're up to no good inside of there. I couldn't tell if they have masks on or not.
00:52Just be ready for him to wreck out and run.
00:58Thornton police have pulled over a truck with mismatched license plates.
01:08They cut out of their car trying to compromise initially.
01:20That's pretty nice.

01:51Officers are approaching Douglas County when shots are fired.
01:55They hand the pursuit over to Deputy Brad Burek.
02:00Another agency was pursuing a vehicle down I-25 towards our county.
02:05We got to stop this guy.
02:07He's shooting at officers.
02:09He's going to kill someone.
02:10I just happened to see this truck just go by, and I just knew.
02:23I was like, that's the truck.
02:25So, and started behind him.
02:29Deputy Mark Werder also responds.
02:36Deputy Burek was the number one car.
02:38It was the number two car.
02:40You start to get that adrenaline dump, and you start to get, you know,
02:44focused on what you have to do and kicking it into gear.
02:47We're going to initiate a pursuit.
02:48I'll call it home number two.
02:49We are eastbound Plum Creek.
02:50He's swerving on that one side of the road.
02:51Speeds are still 60.
02:52Coming to Castle Rock.
02:53305 Adam, he just blew the light.
02:54Eastbound Plum Creek at 25.
02:55He continues to run those rides and get closer into the downtown area of Castle Rock.
03:24305 Adam, he just blew the red at Wilcox.
03:29Looks like he's pulling in the 7-Eleven.
03:54It's a Dallas Chicken packed and he's holding off as the car holding the wall in bang.
03:59Нет, блин.
04:00It's purified.
04:01Oh, shit!
04:03Put your hands out!

04:11Hands out!
04:1285 Adam, shots fired!
04:17Shots fired!
04:19305 Adam, shots fired!
04:20305 Adam, shots fired!
04:21fire i rushed to the front of the store and when i got to the window i saw that he had the gun
04:27and i thought he was going to try to kill me i thought he was going to shoot me
04:33the immediate reaction was to start shooting at him
04:36from my vantage point i saw the gun
04:53put your hands up put your hands up and in that split second
04:59it i chose to fire my weapon sometimes it is scary in the moment because sometimes hesitation kills
05:11and like i want to make it home to see my boys
05:16put your hands up
05:19and get a perimeter get a perimeter hands up show me your hands show me your hands right now
05:34put your hands up put your hands up
05:41hey i can't see what he's doing dig in the back
05:45obviously there's still the concern that there's civilians inside the store
05:50we had units that were on the back of the store we weren't going to let this one get away
05:54show me your hands now you're gonna get shot show me your hands now show me your hands
06:04uh the guy on the ground's the one with the gun just like you shot
06:13305 adam they're not compliant
06:16in the store we will go and stage fire for one that's gonna be shot the suspect when the female
06:22that was with him had kind of crawled back to behind the counter it started to make me really
06:28nervous because it's like you know this person just pointed a gun at me i thought you know that
06:32they were trying to kill me and now i can't see them
06:40at this point we believe that we did hit him um i mean there is that possibility he's just waiting
06:46for us to come in and ambush us 305 adam i got one suspect that shot at least another suspect that's
06:53not compliant trying to aid him um we just need medical for at least two right now all of our
07:00officers are good for it keep your hands up hey show me your hands right now it's such a high
07:06escalated moment it feels like every second is an hour i was really worried that someone was going
07:13to get hurt douglas county swat team member corporal colt lavelle arrives at the scene
07:43when i heard shots fired you can feel your blood pressure shoot through the roof you can feel
07:55like the adrenaline just spike where is he there's one straight ahead of the truck black quindy the
08:06white male i don't know where he went he ran something right there
08:08the only thing you could hear was the guy screaming in there so it sounded like there
08:15was probably some rounds that deputy worker and deputy burek did get on to the suspect
08:25let me see
08:29hey we can come in through the back there's an interest to the back
08:34i went with deputy lavelle to the back side there's a back door
08:47yeah we need someone with us
08:56to the units up front we have a clear way to come to the back
08:59but we still didn't have control of the situation because he could still have the gun so that's
09:09where we've got to start coming up with a new game plan i got eyes on both hey we will get you
09:15medical attention you need to listen to us i want to get you help
09:20i'm going to break and rake this one now
09:36when i broke out the window i didn't want to put my gun away because like in my mind i'm like this
09:40isn't over yet like i could still get hurt the clerk came out this way
09:45clerk came out this way she's over there she said one customer will be tied
09:50getting that information that changes things significantly i need to make sure that the
09:56civilians that were reported to still being in there were safe and that's when we changed from
10:02waiting to just going in
10:07all right three ten we can come into the back
10:10and we can start clearing out to get the customer out why don't you guys start pushing away in that
10:15way i'll cover them until we get in there and get eyes on him it's still high stakes we're coming in
10:22keep your hands up we will get him out
10:28hey you got blue on the other side blue on the other side they're right here
10:32you got to be careful because we don't want to end up shooting each other
10:35deputy worder provides cover from the front deputy burek and corporal lavelle get ready to enter
10:42through the back one more
10:49as i made entry into the store i completely expected for the suspect to have the gun in his hand
10:56maybe his girlfriend was going to have a gun in her hand you have to push that fear deep down inside
11:02and have that courage and be respecting of that fear and knowing that there's a possibility you're
11:07going to get shot
11:12hey hey sit up let me see your hands ball hey let me see your hands
11:28okay move come here come here move step back step back
11:40after giving her several commands she separated herself from her boyfriend stood up and walked
11:46towards us i couldn't tell if he had the gun in his hands because one of his hands was obstructed so i
11:54could not see i was able to scan a little bit more i could see the firearm was down by his feet it is a
12:09relief but you know you're not out of the woods yet
12:29i completed a medical sweep and saw the gunshot wounds throughout his body
12:34this is going to hurt but it's going to save your lack of a baby from bleeding out
12:40310 adam we have a subject in custody he's got gunshot wounds and attorney can apply to his arms
12:52even though the suspect uh shot at law enforcement it was my job to ensure that he's taken into custody
13:00and he's getting um the medical aid that is required uh to keep him alive
13:11please after we got the suspect out of the store we cleared the store
13:21the driver is identified as 32 year old kyle williamson
13:25he suffers multiple gunshot wounds but survives his injuries at the time williamson is on parole for
13:34attempted sexual assault and child abuse he pleads guilty to four counts of first degree assault
13:40and is sentenced to 64 years in prison the passenger is hannah willard kyle williamson's wife she admits to
13:49being an accessory and is sentenced to three years in community corrections
13:54i believe the suspect in this case was probably paranoid i'm glad that he's going to serve the rest
14:01of his adult life in prison he was not a good person prior to this and i think that also
14:06the clerk was right there the customer was right there like the fact that they didn't get hit by the
14:24car is pretty crazy the clerk and the customer they both fled through the back door they were both able
14:33to get out um thankfully i believe the suspect was going to try and take one or both hostage if
14:40he had the opportunity to but deputy worker and deputy burek were both so close to him that he wasn't able
14:47to make that happen he was pointing that gun right at me he was he was really trying to kill me that night
14:55like there's some things that i do on the body camera that like you can see like how scared i was
14:59i think about like the impact it would have on my family you know like my dad's a cop my mom's she's
15:05really sweet and like i've got a sister and like me and my sister are super close and
15:18i think about like what they would go through that's what like me up
15:24so sorry
15:38after everything deputy worker asked me he's like did you see the dog and i'm like what dog are you
15:43talking about dude there was no dog when the occupants exited the vehicle so did the dog and it ran out the
15:49door and over to a local store we later learned that the dog was actually stolen several months prior
15:58and we were able to reunite it with its rifle owner
16:20it was a friday i was leaving work heading home i had to stop because there was a red light
16:27i saw the young man in a silver mercedes to my right
16:32he looked very relaxed he looked like he was enjoying his music
16:36i noticed in my rearview mirror a man get out of his hummer
16:58the gun came out and he literally just shot him another driver is filming on their phone
17:07oh
17:09gunshot
17:19dispatch
17:21hi yes um there needs to be an ambulance on a police police on belmont avenue somebody literally
17:28just got out of their car walked up to another car and shot the guy right in his face okay so someone
17:34was shot what is the description of the suspect um male maybe in his 30s or 40s he's driving a hummer
17:43and he's actually looking like he's about to pull into speedway on that one has you
17:48male what color hummer black
17:50i was shocked i didn't think something like that would ever happen and brought daylight in the middle
17:58of the street
18:03i could see him bleeding out and i did think he was going to die
18:12we received a call over the radio for a possible shooting just trying to gather as much information
18:27as i can
18:3027 i got a black hummer give me the air
18:32the black hummer drives straight past sergeant sean ryan
18:41as i'm approaching the intersection i see a black hummer coming onto east liberty street where i was
18:46at that point at that point we're almost passing each other right place the right time i guess
18:51if it was the suspect vehicle i expected it to just turn into a vehicle pursuit
18:57vehicle started to pull over something was wrong that's not good
19:02he had a shooting stance that told me he was intending to injure or kill me
19:32that's not good
19:34sergeant sean ryan is on his own and coming under heavy gunfire from a suspect who has just shot a
19:40motorist in the face 27 shots fired shots fired get that on the ground drop the gun
19:46shot shot fired get that on the ground drop the gun
20:04we're trying to determine if if this person's involved with an innocent party
20:09he put one into my windshield and then shot my passenger side mirror off i don't recall
20:20the rounds flying past me i just recall trying to get back to a position to cover
20:26and getting my location out sergeant david rankin is seconds from the scene
20:33the way he was calling this out there was something really bad going on
20:35i need to be with officer ryan because he needs my help now
20:51so i pull up alongside officer ryan there definitely shots fired at me i can hear it cracking a whiz
21:13over top of my head we've trained together a lot and he's one of those guys that you want to show
21:19up in a critical incident like that the way that suspect is moving it looks like he had some level
21:25of training it's very scary to have somebody who you're fighting against who probably knows your
21:30skills and abilities as much as you do this is a life and death situation the reality that you may not
21:40go home starts to set up all cars in rock racing to assist are officers tim riley and ashley kitchen
21:54when i first heard over the radio officer ryan scream out shots fired
21:59it was a voice i've never heard before like it didn't sound like shock it just made my heart drop my sense
22:12of urgency to get to him just heightened and i was ready to go
22:26i remember the bullet sounded like bees just zipping through just very fast that i can never forget
22:47whatever we're doing isn't working right now the rounds we know they're hitting him we know he's shot
22:52but he's not stopping he's not going down now in your mind it pivots to a different scenario of
22:58him maybe taking this woman ahead of him hostage is he in a carjacking vehicle now we have a bad
23:02situation that's much worse don't hit her don't hit her don't hit her gun down gun down stop nobody
23:10shoot purple put your hands out now put them down put your hands out now
23:16get her up hey hey stop can't move back can't move back crawl to us now crawl crawl
23:34he hits the deck and so the very next priority was making sure he's at least secured not moving
23:40he's compliant and then the next priority is getting that female out from beside the vehicle
23:44come on you got to move to us oh what's right now hurry up ma'am ma'am are you hurt
23:52come on keep coming keep going let's go she was sort of compliant but taking her time wasn't really
23:59listening to our commands ultimately this is where we'll make the decision to break from cover and go
24:05and drag her to safety
24:15she was crying screaming for we got her in the back of a cruiser and then i jumped back into line
24:44the car in the back of a cruiser and then i got it
24:49and then i got it
24:51and then i got it
24:53and then i got it
24:57and then i got it
24:58Police officers in Liberty, Ohio, are moving in to arrest an extremely dangerous gunman.
25:15Keep your hands there. Keep your hands there.
25:19I got him. I'm going to go hands on.
25:21I got him. Just stand on it. Just stand over it. Don't touch nothing.
25:28He's got a magazine pouch on his plate, but make sure he has no other weapons.
25:33Where are you hitting the impression?
25:35The gun was still laying very near him to where he could have grabbed it at any point.
25:41So we still have to deal with the suspect as a potential threat until they're completely secure.
25:47Do not reach for that gun.
25:48Once he's in handcuffs, that's a sigh of relief for us.
25:55And now it's our responsibility to start providing him with medical aid.
25:59Where are you hitting, dude?
26:01From shooting at somebody to rendering first aid, it is a big switch.
26:06But at the end of the day, as a human being, it's our job to render aid now, even though he's been trying to kill me.
26:13Where else are you hitting?
26:14He was hitting the hand and the leg.
26:17He had multiple gunshot wounds to both his legs that we could see pretty obviously.
26:23We're going to check our officers for any wounds received during this gunfight.
26:50He may have been shot and he may not know it yet.
26:53Adrenaline masks a lot.
26:55I've never been in a situation like that as an officer.
26:58You get trained and trained and trained, but that was my very first time going through that 18 months home job.
27:04It just felt like this person doesn't even know who I am.
27:08If I'm a mother, a daughter, a sister, a cousin, like there's just no regard for human life.
27:15I kind of grabbed Officer Kishin and kissed her on the head.
27:19It was just that moment of like, you're good, I'm good, and we're okay.
27:24Like, we made it through this and everybody's okay.
27:33My wife is a nurse at the hospital where I knew that the shooting victims were going to be going to, the suspect.
27:40I knew that it wasn't going to take long for word to get out about an officer involved shooting in Liberty.
27:46It was important for me to get the word to my loved ones that I was safe.
27:49The way the victim was shot and how we were being shot at, I feel like we're all connected.
28:03The victim of the shooting is 20-year-old Zachary Woods.
28:09Zachary sadly passes away a year after the incident.
28:17I remember him joyful.
28:19Loving, caring, eager.
28:27What could have happened to make you get that angry with my child?
28:35The perpetrator is 55-year-old Kevin Mallard.
28:40Investigators believe the shooting was motivated by road rage.
28:44He is sentenced to 68 to 73 and a half years in prison.
28:48He gets a prior military experience.
28:50I don't believe he had really any criminal history.
28:54He had quite a bit of arsenal, if you want to call it, as far as other magazines for different firearms.
29:01To this day have some of those questions unanswered as to what his intentions were.
29:07It was a horrible, random act of violence against an innocent victim.
29:13My son didn't have a gun.
29:17My son didn't have a gun.
29:19He had no weapon at all.
29:21That left me confused, angry, torn, worried, and just puzzled.
29:31I would like to know why you shot my son.
29:37To this day, I still want to know why you shot my son.
29:40911, what is the address of your emergency?
30:01My little cousin, he's autistic, he's five.
30:04He ran out the door and we can't find him.
30:08How long has he been missing?
30:10Literally like five minutes.
30:11We heard the door.
30:12All right, honey, I got Enid headed that way.
30:14What is his name?
30:15His name is Steve, but we call him Coco.
30:17He's on the spectrum.
30:18Is he, like, attracted to anything in particular?
30:20Yes, water.
30:22I can't...
30:22You guys like loud noises.
30:23That's one of the things.
30:24Yes, sir, we've got a missing five-year-old autistic child in Deltona.
30:34He is drawn to the water.
30:36Just be advised, he is drawn to the water.
30:40I got extra clothes in my car.
30:41I'll jump in if I have to.
30:46Somebody get out to the water areas as quickly as possible, please.
30:51In Deltona, we know that there's water everywhere.
30:54Rivers, ponds, lakes.
30:56Swimming pools in people's backyards or retention ponds
30:59or retention ditches on the side of the road.
31:01Six, the closest one is directly behind.
31:05As a law enforcement officer,
31:12you get the concern right away of a missing child
31:15because, you know, it's a child that is helpless.
31:19We're going to call in every resource that we have available to us.
31:22Helicopter, our drone units.
31:24We need overviews of these bodies of water.
31:27Go ahead.
31:29I want to go be sensitive to those.
31:32Copy that.
31:33Let me get closer to the area.
31:35Turn this on.
31:35We're off the noise.
31:36We're going to use.
31:37It doesn't make loud noises.
31:38Okay.
31:39What we knew was the approximate age of the child,
31:56the name that he went by, where he was last seen,
31:59and when he was last seen.
32:02You check outside around the building and stuff.
32:05The garage is open.
32:06I was first on the scene, myself and another deputy shortly after me.
32:12Anytime we're dealing with a missing child,
32:14our first place we look is the house.
32:17The child's nonverbal.
32:19It almost made it feel like it was going to be impossible.
32:21You're going to yell in his name, stuff like that.
32:23You're not sure if you're going to even get a response.
32:25Hey, you got a picture of him?
32:28I need a picture of him as soon as possible.
32:31He's going to help.
32:32He's going to help.
32:32Where's he at?
32:34Where's your son at?
32:38The house is clear.
32:39We're working on getting a picture.
32:41Huh?
32:41I need a picture of him.
32:43A picture of him?
32:44Hold on.
32:44Hold on.
32:46There you go right here.
32:48That's today?
32:48Can I see what he looks like?
32:49Yeah, right here.
32:50He has a one.
32:51He has a white Disney shirt,
32:55but he got Coco in the back of his shirt.
32:57Okay.
32:57We have some blue shorts.
33:00Coco!
33:02Here, send it to me,
33:03and I'll send it to our group chats.
33:04Coco in the back of me.
33:05We found out that this is not the first time
33:08that he had gone missing.
33:09He was actually in a neighbor's hot tub
33:11in their backyard.
33:13I'm reiterating that on our TAC channel.
33:15Hey, we need to be checking swimming pools.
33:17We need to be checking backyards.
33:19Anywhere where we think there could be a body of water.
33:21That's going to be our focus.
33:25Hey, Coco, you over here?
33:27Knowing that he's done this before,
33:29we have a process called the red alert
33:32or the reverse 911.
33:33These calls go out to everyone
33:35that has a landline or a cell phone.
33:37We give a certain radius.
33:40We get that word out,
33:42and they now know that a child is missing.
33:43This is my location or my AVL.
33:48X-ray 40 for a possible child screening.
33:529-0, we're already in.
33:53All right, next street, over.
34:00Okay, 46, you're right there.
34:02Your AVL sets you there.
34:03What did you hear screaming?
34:12It sounded like we've been here,
34:13but it's the next one.
34:19Coco, you back here?
34:27Coco!
34:28Oh, my God.
34:33Approaching location where you heard
34:34that a child that can't swim
34:36is possibly in a hot tub,
34:38and you're the one approaching a hot tub,
34:40you're thinking the worst.
34:49Volusia deputies are searching
34:51for a 5-year-old autistic boy.
34:54Coco, you back here?
35:00Getting that final clarity
35:02of this moment of,
35:03is he in here, is he not?
35:04Coco's not in there.
35:05There is still hope
35:06that Coco is alive somewhere,
35:08and we still have to find him.
35:09We've probably about half an hour
35:10to 45 minutes left of daylight.
35:15We have to move as quickly as we can
35:20while we still have the ability to see.
35:23Coco!
35:31I sent it to District 4, all of you.
35:34After sending out the picture of Coco,
35:36I took a look at the map
35:38to kind of see what bodies of water
35:39were in the area.
35:43I've seen one that I was pretty familiar with.
35:48We've responded to calls out there.
35:51At the time,
35:53my second son was actually
35:54the same exact age as Coco,
35:56so it hit home pretty big for me.
36:02I think if this was happening
36:03to me and my family,
36:04how would I want someone to respond?
36:06So I try to be as fast as possible.
36:08That kind of teacher in the military,
36:28stop, look, listen,
36:28that's exactly what I did.
36:30There was nothing that I could see.
36:37No movement in the water,
36:39no splashes, no noises,
36:41no footprints on the ground.
36:42You know, there's so much
36:52that hasn't been checked.
36:54Parks, other areas.
36:56Trying to push deeper into the woods,
36:58find different clues,
36:59look for different things.
37:00The biggest thing that's playing in my mind is
37:12how am I going to deal
37:13with this personally first
37:14if, one, he is in the lake
37:16and it's under bad circumstances,
37:19and, two, if I'm the one
37:20that has to talk to Coco's parents
37:21and deliver bad news.
37:32The time of day was starting
37:33to become a huge factor for us
37:35because once the sun goes down,
37:37that becomes a huge issue for us
37:39trying to find him.
37:41It was getting colder.
37:51Hey, he's out here somewhere.
37:58Hey, I got him, I got him.
38:01Where's he at?
38:02X-ray's 42 cents,
38:03but I got him in the water.
38:06Where's he at?
38:08Come here.
38:12Is he drowning?
38:15Is he screaming
38:16because he's in pain?
38:21You got him, you got him?
38:38He's okay.
38:43Coco was probably a good, you know,
38:4520, 25 feet out on the water.
38:48He yelled out to me.
38:49But he was above the water
38:52and communicating the best he could.
38:54He's breathing unconscious.
38:57I got these keys on it too.
38:58Good for rescue.
39:00All right, buddy.
39:03What's that?
39:04What's your name?
39:06Hey, Coco.
39:10You want to go see your parents?
39:14So I was kind of expecting Coco
39:15not to be too reactive to me
39:18because of the whole nonverbal autistic stuff.
39:20But he did a good job communicating.
39:26Coco, I got him.
39:28He's holding on to a pretty frail log.
39:31And when I picked him up,
39:32the log actually broke off and floated away.
39:34So that's a pretty dangerous spot to be in.
39:36You got him, you got him?
39:42When I picked him up,
39:43he actually cleaned around my neck really tight,
39:46like hugging me.
39:46It literally felt like I was, you know,
39:53holding on to one of my own kids,
39:54like getting a big bear hug from my own child.
39:58If you were looking for somebody
39:59to be a hero in that moment,
40:02I mean, Deputy Brough is the right guy.
40:05He got his body cam off as quickly as possible
40:08and off he went.
40:09And the next thing you know,
40:12Coco's on dry land
40:13and being reunited with his family.
40:18Fire department's just going to look at him.
40:19He's in here.
40:24You could see the relief in his dad's eyes.
40:26You could see it in the hug that he gave Coco.
40:29Thank you so much.
40:30Absolutely.
40:31You was the one I gave the pictures to you.
40:33Yes.
40:34What made you look in there?
40:35I knew there was a lake,
40:36so I ran back there.
40:38Oh, my God.
40:39I instantly thought about my sons.
40:41I thanked God a lot.
40:42I prayed on my way home.
40:43I called my wife.
40:45I was pretty happy that we were able
40:47to get that outcome out of there.
40:48I couldn't tell you a rhyme or reason
40:52why I went down the road I went down.
40:54I think I was led to that water.
40:57Oh, my God.
40:58Thank you so much, man.
40:58Yeah, he was...
41:00His little head was barely sticking above the water
41:02when I grabbed him.
41:03I think everybody that was there
41:04would have did exactly what I did, so...
41:07But it does feel good that, you know,
41:08you're the one that goes in
41:09and can grab him out of the water like that.
41:13All right, buddy.
41:14Can I have a high five?
41:15Give him a high five.
41:16Give him a high five.
41:16It was a good scene, man.
41:17Thank you so much.
