00:00In other news, in a fast-changing world where technology moves at breakneck speed,
00:05the education sector cannot afford to play catch-up.
00:08With eyes on the future and feet firmly on the ground,
00:11new initiatives are being rolled out to ensure Filipino learners
00:14are not left behind as the digital age reshapes classrooms.
00:19Kenneth Paciente narrates the report.
00:23In the modern era, the education sector must not be left behind.
00:28This is the goal of the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcus, Jr.,
00:32which is why efforts to further strengthen basic education in the country continue.
00:40Among these efforts is the launch of Accelerating Governance and Adaptive Pedagogy
00:54through Artificial Intelligence, or AGAPAY, led personally by the President.
00:58This serves as the umbrella program of the Department of Education for all AI-related initiatives.
01:03This is what we're trying to do today, standing next to our people and bridging the gap between technology and education.
01:12We all know that AI is shaping the way that we communicate and the way that we solve everyday problems.
01:18Our responsibility now is to ensure that our students use AI confidently and ethically,
01:27enabling them to stay ahead in this learning journey that they are going through.
01:32In addition to students, the use and integration of AI in basic education
01:36is also expected to enhance the capabilities of teachers, non-teaching personnel, and parents.
01:42With the support of the ASEAN Foundation and Google.org,
01:46DEPED will roll out a national AI skills training program
01:51that will reach up to 1.5 million Filipinos, including learners, teachers, and parents.
01:59This means that students will learn how AI works.
02:05Teachers can learn how to integrate AI into their lessons.
02:09And parents can guide their children in using AI safely and wisely at home.
02:15However, the President emphasized that while AI is a great help in student learning,
02:19there are still things that technology cannot do.
02:22Technology cannot replace discipline.
02:24It cannot replace effort.
02:26It cannot replace the habit of showing up prepared and ready to learn.
02:31It cannot replace hard work.
02:34That is how we build a bagong Pilipinas.
02:37One that is enabled by technology and powered by Filipinos
02:41who choose to learn, to work, and to aspire for a better future for all.
02:48I wouldn't be too dependent on it since AI nga po,
02:52it's only there to help us and not replace us.
02:55We are very grateful because this is an opportunity for us, teachers, and students,
03:00to really apply this artificial intelligence in our educational system.
03:07I think it will be a great help for us.
03:10The President also pointed out that the government is currently pushing
03:14for the development of the Philippine AI Programme Framework,
03:17which aims to prepare the country's economy for the future.
03:20This includes strengthening infrastructures such as high-performance computing
03:24and upskilling workers and teachers,
03:26which he said are a vital part of the national development.
03:30Meanwhile, the President inspected the ongoing construction
03:33of the San Francisco High School building,
03:35which was damaged by fire in June last year.
03:38He said the project is targeted for completion by June,
03:41in time for the opening of the new school year.
03:43From the previous two-story building with 12 classrooms,
03:46the school will be upgraded to a four-story structure
03:49with a total of 36 classrooms.
03:52Napakiusapan natin ang SM na magtayo din ng 24 classrooms.
03:56Kaya ito na yung construction para sa mga bagong classroom
04:00na gagawin ng public works para sa DepEd.
04:04The President also led the implementation of the Yaman ng Kalusugan Programme
04:07or Yakap Caravan at the same school.
04:09Around 200 teachers and students received free medical consultations,
04:14medicines, vision screening, and laboratory tests.
