Newcastle United’s season has turned on reflection and response. After a frustrating spell that exposed tactical and defensive flaws, Eddie Howe’s willingness to adapt has reignited belief at St James’ Park.
Improved structure, clearer roles and the growing influence of Bruno Guimarães have driven a steady climb up the Premier League table. What once looked like drift now resembles direction, with Newcastle rebuilding confidence and laying foundations for a sustained push forward rather than a short-term recovery.

00:00Newcastle United's Premier League campaign has been defined by a shift from frustration to
00:07resilience with Eddie Howe's willingness to reflect and adapt proving crucial to their
00:12recent improvements. Now for a difficult end to 2025 including a painful Derby defeat that
00:19left players and fans disappointed the Magpies look vulnerable and short of answers in a demanding
00:24top flight schedule. That period of inconsistency left Newcastle hovering around the mid-table zone
00:31and under mounting pressure but subtle tactical and personnel adjustments have transformed their
00:37outlook. What a difference a month in football can make as Howe made some sobering comments at the
00:43back end of the year they have since shown huge signs of improvement. That is going to sting for a
00:51long time and we know that our performance was off of what we needed it to be today not from a
00:58defensive perspective I thought we defended pretty well today all through the game as a game of really
01:03few chances for both teams unfortunately the one big moment goes against us and it was a yeah it was a
01:11bizarre goal really to lose the game with but it happened and then we weren't good enough to open
01:15them up. The results have followed Newcastle are now enjoying a strong run of form in the Premier League
01:19climbing steadily up the table with the points per game trajectory putting them in contention for a
01:24top half finish. Key to the upturn is Bruno Guimaraes freed from clear attacking patterns and supported by
01:32more balanced squad. Bruno has delivered goals assist and leadership providing the cutting edge
01:38Newcastle lacked in the closing stages of last year. The game and the importance of the game and we
01:44fully acknowledge that and that's why it hurts so much so disappointed for our supporters and sorry for
01:50the performance really in a sense of the lack of goal mouth action the lack of clinical attacking which
01:57we've tried to pride ourselves on over recent seasons it wasn't there today and you know for that we're
02:02sorry certainly wasn't a lack of effort from the lads but today wasn't our day.
02:06Yeah I don't think he'll well I hope he won't take that personally that's one of those things that
02:13can happen in a in a game he's gone back with good intentions he's defended set plays for us well
02:17since he's been here and that's just an unfortunate moment I don't hold him in any way responsible for
02:21them. At the other end how's adjustment of strength and defensive organization reducing exposure to
02:27counter-attacks and set-piece vulnerability that had previously hampered results. How pointed out
02:33some issues that they needed to address during the period of turmoil. Newcastle now look far more
02:40secure with belief restored in the squad and confidence among supporters. More importantly
02:45How's adaptability in the form of key players like Bruno suggest the Magpies are not just recovering
02:52from past setbacks they are building a foundation for sustained success in the Premier League.
