00:00Welcome to Radio Check, D-Traffic.
00:07Here's your view.
00:08Good work.
00:11Our caller thinks she found a human hand on the ground.
00:17One mistake out here could be the difference between life or death.
00:20You have no idea what you're going to encounter.
00:25People come up here when they're on the run.
00:27He's running, he's running.
00:28He's through there.
00:28And we'll find them.
00:29The allure to Alaska is just how wild it can be.
00:36Stop, or you're going to get tasers!
00:38Stop!
00:39Alaska State Troopers, you're on the left.
00:41Hit that, hit that, hit that, hit that, oh, stop.
00:44We don't have a boring day as a State Trooper in Alaska.
00:46Stop, fire, stop, fire.
00:47Go to the morale shop.
00:48Stay German!
00:49Do not move!
00:50Let me see your hand!
00:51Hands down!
00:51Thank you for your service.
01:06Go get them!
01:07Go get them!
01:10I'm Trooper Chernus.
01:11I've been a trooper for a little over a year now, and I've been in law enforcement for about
01:15five years.
01:16High five!
01:17Oh, sorry!
01:19Today is summer solstice.
01:21Longest day of the year.
01:22Sunset's around 12, 12, 30, and then sunrise is about three.
01:26There's a lot going on in town, a lot of events, a lot of parties.
01:30Everybody's been cooped up all winter, so once the days start getting longer and it
01:33starts warming up, it seems like people kind of lose their mind.
01:40First one, come.
01:41It's kind of weird because, as you can see, it's almost 1 a.m., and you can see everything,
01:47so it definitely helps me locate and identify the type of driving behavior people exhibit
01:53when they might be involved in criminal activity.
01:56I look at his car, and it just took off on me for no reason.
02:14I got a guy trying to flee from me.
02:21We're at the Oasis.
02:22Purple pickup.
02:26It's unoccupied.
02:36He must have fled on foot.
02:37We're behind the Oasis.
02:39Fairbanks 2010, can I get a read back on?
02:42Check cat history and arms history and see who's associated with it.
02:44The registered owner sounds like he's on probation for a flame from police and felony theft.
02:56Hey, turn this to the guy that just ran off this white shirt and black hat.
03:03Is he close or no?
03:05Let me see your hands.
03:26Let me see your hands.
03:27I got them here.
03:27I got them here.
03:28Hands up.
03:30Hands up.
03:31Hands up.
03:31Hands up.
03:32Hands up.
03:35Hands up.
03:36Hands up.
03:37Hands down.
03:40hands now!
03:42We got him.
03:44What?
03:46All right.
03:48Sit up. Bring your knees up.
03:50Yes.
03:52Ready? Yeah.
03:58Over here.
04:00You want to just check the grass and see if you ditch
04:02anything around here? Sure.
04:04You want to just bring over my car? I'll Mirandize him.
04:12All right.
04:14You all right, man?
04:16Do you need to talk to an ambulance or anything like that?
04:18Close the door. Hey, you.
04:20Okay. Are you willing to talk to me at all?
04:22Huh?
04:24Bye. Close the door, bro.
04:26You don't want to talk? Close the door.
04:28All right.
04:30He doesn't want to talk.
04:34It reeks like alcohol, so
04:36good chance he's DUI.
04:46He's got a bunch of dime bags.
04:48Yeah, it looks like there might be some white residue on that.
04:50So this is just a field test.
04:52Basically just dab the white tip on what I suspect is narcotics,
04:56and then it'll turn blue.
04:58So field tested positive for cocaine.
05:00So he's got multiple phones.
05:02He's got a digital scale.
05:04Tons of baggies, a little bit of coke residue,
05:06and probably get this thing impounded
05:08and get the show on the road.
05:12You're pretty fast, Testa.
05:14Yeah.
05:26Summer solstice. I can sometimes cause problems.
05:28Peace and chance we'll have people drinking quite a bit.
05:32Parties, DUIs, might have some fights. Just never know.
05:36Okay.
05:38First point 10. 1036.
05:40So we just got dispatched to disturbance slash domestic violence situation.
05:44What's being reported is a son hit his mother, I believe, with a pillow.
05:50He's 37.
05:52I thought it was like a kid hit his mom with a pillow.
05:56So now that I'm seeing that the guy's like 37,
05:58that's a little concerning.
06:00Not sure if he's going to be highly intoxicated,
06:02maybe mentally unstable.
06:04Might be more serious.
06:06Who knows?
06:22It's all my fault.
06:24Because I threw a pillow at you.
06:26That's pathetic.
06:28Come talk to me, Matt. It's the state troopers.
06:32Mind stepping out and chatting with us?
06:34Mind a camera.
06:36Step down here.
06:38Oh, no, no, no worries. I'm stepping down. I'm sitting down.
06:40No weapons ahead.
06:42Oh, forceful.
06:44You're alright. We're not trying to hurt you.
06:46I'm going to squat over here.
06:48Alright, if you want to take a seat over here, that's fine.
06:50Oh, chihuahuas.
06:52You want to just lean up on the car for me and chat with you?
06:54No, no, no, no. I'm not leaning on the car.
06:56I'm leaning against the yard.
06:58What's going on? Why are we here? What happened?
07:00I threw a pillow at my mom.
07:02Because she called me useless and I go like,
07:04Stop.
07:06And I threw the pillow at her.
07:08So I'm the bad guy in all this.
07:10Mm-hmm.
07:12Okay.
07:14And then she called you guys and I'm going like,
07:16Of course you're going to hold that against me.
07:20Because I threw a pillow at you.
07:22I gotcha.
07:24I didn't make this bad. It's summer solstice.
07:26You guys don't want to be out here doing this .
07:30I got to take care of chihuahuas and my mom with dementia.
07:34So this is the deal.
07:36You need to stop throwing pillows at your mom.
07:38I don't care how much of an argument you're getting in.
07:40Good note.
07:41If she would have been injured, you're going to jail today.
07:42Okay?
07:43By a pillow.
07:44By a pillow.
07:45If she's injured by it, you're going to jail.
07:47It's called DV assault.
07:48Okay?
07:49Able to stay away from your mom.
07:50Keep things peaceful.
07:51I'm going to bed.
07:52All right.
07:53Let's go back in the house.
07:54And let's go to bed.
07:55Don't help me up.
07:56I got myself.
07:57No.
07:58You're fine.
07:59Oh, yeah.
08:01All right.
08:02Head back in.
08:03Take care of yourself.
08:04Happy solstice.
08:05Happy solstice.
08:07They're doing a magnificent job.
08:09They're checking up.
08:11And I appreciate them.
08:18All right.
08:19All right.
08:20All right.
08:21All right.
08:22All right.
08:23All right.
08:24All right.
08:25All right.
08:26All right.
08:27All right.
08:28All right.
08:29All right.
08:30I'm Sergeant Chris Havens.
08:31I'm working day shift in the valley.
08:34As the sergeant, my responsibilities are to kind of herd the cats, per se.
08:40Just try to devote the appropriate resources to where they need to go.
08:43We're responding to a subject that has a warrant for assault.
08:47on his mother.
08:49The mother saw him inside the house and called the police.
08:52Palmer PD surrounded the house to try to call him out.
08:56Our plan as of right now is to potentially affect entry.
09:00This is our second barricade of the day.
09:02We're hoping that he does eventually decide to come out.
09:10This is the Palmer Police Department.
09:12I need you to exit the residence peacefully now.
09:17Our suspect's criminal history includes assault second degree, DUI, assault fours.
09:24He does have a previous resisting arrest or barricading out of Anchorage.
09:28He's definitely been involved in this process before.
09:30Please just come outside with your hands in the air and surrender.
09:34If you do not comply, you may be bit more and dog or otherwise injured.
09:39I don't want to see that happen to you.
09:41There are more of us coming.
09:43The law has been approved and they are on their way.
09:46I've seen him walk past the doors and windows several times so he knows we're outside.
09:51He's got a position of advantage.
09:53He's got access to potential weapons.
09:55So it's just all around a bad situation.
09:57And certainly we could make it worse by trying to go in hastily.
10:01We're responding to a assault warrant subject that has barricaded inside of his mother's residence.
10:26He's got access to potential weapons.
10:29The mother left the residence and he has refused to come out to us.
10:34So right now our snipers are getting set in location.
10:37If our suspect does not imply SWAT, we'll breach the front door.
10:42Bearcat arrived on scene, which is our armored vehicle.
10:45We're going to get a couple of members inside.
10:47Friend, we're going to start working on door breach.
10:50This is Alaska State Troopers.
10:51You are on their left.
10:53Come out the front door now.
10:55There's nothing in your hand.
10:57Come to the front door, Dominic.
11:00We don't want to rank them off now.
11:02Come out.
11:06Count me.
11:07I'm ready to move to the Bearcat.
11:09This is Alaska State Troopers.
11:10Come back to the front door.
11:11We don't want you to get hurt.
11:13He went left to the bedrooms.
11:14I think we should deploy that NFDD, see if we can get a response back.
11:19I'm in the front door, Dominic.
11:21I don't want to damage your hometown anymore.
11:23We are ready.
11:25All right, I'm moving.
11:26Okay, on me.
11:27On me.
11:28Don't move.
11:29Let me see both hands.
11:31Both hands.
11:32Don't move.
11:34Don't move.
11:35Okay, let's get him out of here.
11:38He was able to close the door on us.
11:41We continue with the door breach, force the door back open.
11:43Luckily, we were able to get close enough to tase him, make entry into the house, effect an arrest.
11:48You all right if we get those barbs on you?
11:49I don't consent, sir, to see you.
11:51I'm not searching anything.
11:52I'm just trying to help you out.
11:53That's all.
11:54So it ended pretty good in this situation.
11:57We are going to take photos of the front door if you want to communicate with mom.
12:02And she is cleared to return to the residence whenever she pleases.
12:09All right, just do me a favor and keep those speeds down low for me, okay?
12:26We've gotten reports of some roost on the side of the road up aways.
12:29All right, so enjoy the rest of your trip.
12:31My name is Sergeant Brian Haley.
12:33I've been with the troopers for going on 15 years now.
12:37Solstice in Alaska.
12:42When there is that much daylight, we are just constantly taking falls.
12:49We got a report almost a week ago now of a really bad assault that took place.
12:55The suspect got a pickaxe handle and struck a female victim in the head.
13:00Also, while she was trying to get away, he actually got a hold of a mallet and hit her across the head again.
13:07Ended up breaking her arms, breaking her legs.
13:10She was unconscious for about three days.
13:13Almost been a week now, and she's still in the ICU, just barely able to talk.
13:19We know who the suspect is, but we're still not sure of his location.
13:23We've since gotten some information from her of where this assault might have taken place.
13:28So we're going to head up there with a couple other troopers and do some recon.
13:31We're just looking for anything to corroborate her story.
13:36And these are the exact description of the clothes that she gave.
13:39While she was running away screaming, the suspect was chasing her down and tore it all up her.
13:44So it was a pretty violent assault.
13:47Looks like there's possibly, looks like drips of blood right here on the rock.
13:52She said that he drove up with the pickup truck, put her in the truck.
13:56She thought she was going to be driven around until she died.
13:58I think that's all we're going to get out here.
14:00I want to get out of this boat.
14:01Yeah, this is a hell of a case, guys.
14:04It was a shot in the dark, but we ended up determining that it was a location.
14:08This is way too much just to be a big coincidence.
14:12I'm Trooper Scott McAfee.
14:24I've been with the Alaska State Troopers for 10 years.
14:27Currently I'm assigned as a canine handler with the criminal suppression unit here in Fairbanks, Alaska.
14:32I'm going to meet up with Trooper Jess Evans.
14:35I think that's it.
14:36We're going to go try to apprehend for the horrific assault he committed against his girlfriend.
14:41There's an area in North Pole where he has been known to hang out and we're getting word from people on the street that he's been seen recently.
14:52So we are going to these couple hotspots and install some trail cameras that will send photographs in real time to us of any movement.
15:02I've been dealing with this guy since I started.
15:05I have personal history with him running and fighting.
15:07Really?
15:08Yeah, so we need to put our effort into trying to find him and getting him off the street.
15:13So this is the place right here.
15:19Shantytown.
15:22And?
15:23Which house is it?
15:24So allegedly he's living here in that garage.
15:29There's a bunch of broke down abandoned places he could be hiding in out there.
15:33We'll go contact the neighbor and see if we can put a camera there.
15:38Hey, sir.
15:39How you doing?
15:40Good.
15:41Hey.
15:42Come out.
15:43They get kind of loud.
15:45Oh, okay.
15:46Hey, Trooper McAfee with State Troopers.
15:47How are you doing?
15:48Just recovering from the shoulders.
15:49Oh, dang.
15:50We're looking for a guy who's got a warrant.
15:52His mom lives across the street.
15:54You mind if we put a camera on your property facing that way?
15:57All right, cool.
15:58Anything to get that guy.
15:59Okay, sounds good.
16:00I'm going to help you all out.
16:01That's what I figured.
16:02You know, most people want these guys.
16:04I broke my shoulder.
16:05Oh, really?
16:06Yeah.
16:07How did you do that?
16:08Well, I confronted him over on his property because he was screaming like a child.
16:13Yeah.
16:14And I woke up on the ground.
16:16Broken shoulder.
16:17Oh, dang.
16:18Intuitions in the back.
16:19But you don't mind us setting up some gear then?
16:20I don't mind that at all.
16:21I appreciate you.
16:22Yeah.
16:23The public's very supportive of what we do here, which makes it a great place to work.
16:28Arming in 10 seconds.
16:29There we go.
16:31Camera one installed.
16:32Well, thanks for your help letting us set that up.
16:35Yeah.
16:36We'll probably leave it there for a couple of days.
16:37Anything you guys need.
16:38Ham sandwich or whatever you need.
16:39I'm here.
16:40Appreciate you.
16:41Yeah.
16:42No, seriously.
16:43Thank you guys.
16:45Nice to talk to you.
16:46We'll see you again.
16:47All right.
16:48Take care.
16:49You're a good person.
16:50They're happy to help and we love working hand in hand with them.
16:52Oh, look what we got here.
16:54Cops out with somebody.
16:58Let's see.
16:59It's this .
17:00That's him.
17:01That's him.
17:02That's the suspect.
17:06That's him, that's him, that's the suspect.
17:13Well, we got him.
17:15That's as rough as I've ever seen him, look.
17:17Carrying around a gallon of chocolate milk to live off,
17:20I guess, so.
17:21You were looking for him.
17:22Yeah, I knew we were looking for him, so.
17:24Going to walk you back in the patrol car?
17:25All right, that was easy, yeah.
17:28Just so you're aware, you have $100,000
17:29warrant for your arrest, OK?
17:32Worked out good, a little anticlimactic for us,
17:34but the bad guy's off the street, you know?
17:36The mission's successful, so that's what we're here for.
17:39Hey, job well done, right?
17:54Name's Trooper Cody Ailey, working out
17:56of the Wasilla slash Palmer Coast here in Alaska.
18:00Our patrol area's the size of West Virginia.
18:03You need to be able to handle yourself more
18:05than in most areas of law enforcement.
18:07One mistake out here could be the difference
18:10between life or death.
18:11Backup for a different chocolate milk, something.
18:13Felony level, amount of death.
18:16We have two people chasing.
18:19Let's go ahead and request AST assistance.
18:22We're heading towards Anchorage right now with the pursuit.
18:32Crossing the bridge, southbound, speeds are at 100, passing higher.
18:37WPD and AST are both currently in pursuit of the vehicle.
18:45We'll catch up.
18:46I'd rather be number three as I can, then 4L take number one.
18:5014 if you want to take number two.
18:52Our job, once we get there on scene, is to probably be the third or fourth car in the vehicle pursuit.
18:57Somebody else will pit it.
19:00We're going to try to lock in the vehicle, make sure it can't move, and hopefully safely resolve this without any injury.
19:06Looks like one of the passengers is throwing clothes out of the vehicle.
19:10They're throwing stuff in my car.
19:12Be careful.
19:13Looks like they're throwing all the evidence outside of the vehicle, trying to destroy any evidence.
19:22We're heading towards APD, and generally, they'll help us with spikes, too.
19:30APD, direct.
19:31Hey, we're hard to do.
19:34Let's go back off and turn it down.
19:37Vehicle's continuing to throw stuff out after we have disconnected.
19:42We don't have the ability to terminate the pursuit in any way, since no one's ahead with spikes to stop the vehicle, we have to stop the pursuit.
19:48But he's showing behavior right now that shows that it could be under the influence of something, but continuously driving recklessly, even without any law enforcement contact.
19:57So I'm following at a distance.
19:59Oh, he's getting off right here.
20:03I got it.
20:04It's right in front of me, and it's heading towards the base right now.
20:08There's nowhere for it to go.
20:10I advise the base police that the truck trying to enter the base is our pursuit vehicle.
20:16There's no escaping.
20:18It's done for.
20:20Oh, God.
20:25Perfect.
20:27That pursuit truck just U-turned and almost hit me head off, which is a felony assault on a law enforcement officer.
20:34Yup.
20:37The police need to be reengaged.
20:39The system on the assault.
20:41The police need to be reengaged to assist the vehicle.
20:43And then to our vehicles oncoming traffic, I'm backing off a little bit.
20:46They have complete disregard for public safety.
20:49that they're swerving and going to oncoming traffic.
20:56All units in the traffic pursuit APD
20:58and refusing to admit.
20:59I'll try to put it here on C Street.
21:08We're about to pit it right as he discontinued it.
21:11Copy. We did discontinue.
21:13It's back northbound on A Street.
21:16The pursuit became very dangerous for the public.
21:18We asked for assistance from the Anchorage Police Department
21:21so we could spike it and end it.
21:22Unfortunately, we weren't able to help.
21:24It's very frustrating.
21:25I mean, personally, if somebody almost hits you,
21:27you want them to go to jail.
21:28But still, at the end of the day,
21:30my personal frustrations is not more important than public safety.
21:35That's what matters the most.
21:48I'm Trooper Parker with the Alaska State Troopers.
21:58The stuff we see living out here is, like, postcard worthy.
22:02It's so pretty, it looks fake.
22:05I remember my second day in Alaska, I'm driving with my wife
22:08and we see this jet-black, bangy-looking dog.
22:11I was like, man, that's a rough-looking dog.
22:13And my wife's like, that's a wolf.
22:15We've had calls and issues with kids getting stomped by moose at the bus stop.
22:21So, beautiful stuff in Alaska, but, you know, with the beauty comes the danger.
22:2634, our caller thinks she found a human hand on the ground.
22:31It has five digits, but no claws.
22:3410-4, 10-9-2.
22:37Not the first time we've gotten those calls, so...
22:40A little suspicious.
22:421-B-34.
22:49Hello?
22:51Hey, State Troopers.
22:56So, down the street, is it...
22:58Can we walk?
22:59Sure.
23:01That's it right there.
23:03Is it that black thing?
23:05Yeah.
23:06We noticed it because there were flies swarming around it.
23:08God forbid if it is a person.
23:10I want to get photographs before you touch anything.
23:13Not very often you find something like that.
23:16I don't shy away from blood and all that stuff.
23:18I've been a medic for many, many years, so...
23:20For me, it's no big deal.
23:22Looks like the foot.
23:23I mean, you had the heel right there in the metatarsals.
23:26Let me put this in the bag because I'm not putting this in my car like that, so...
23:31Obviously, it's a foot.
23:32It's a bone, but...
23:33That is animal.
23:34A little black bear bear cup.
23:36Cool.
23:37Didn't have any claws on it, but same size as my foot.
23:40It is something because we get these calls a lot, you know?
23:43It's like, oh, there's a human remains, but...
23:45Nah, yeah, no, it's a bear.
23:46If nothing else, we got something that is going to upset other people.
23:49Out of the roadway.
23:50It may not be glamorous, but it's fun.
23:52I'm having a great time.
23:54My name's James Kamira.
23:55I've been a trooper for almost 22 years.
23:57I started my career in the Matu Valley working patrol duties.
23:58Big bag will ride with me.
23:59Sounds good.
24:00And then took a position in the rural services unit in Fairbanks.
24:01And then took a position in the rural services unit in Fairbanks.
24:32Today, we're doing some follow-up on an arson investigation that we received a few days ago.
24:37Our kind of marching orders are to spend our time in the villages and the communities.
24:42Because there's so few troopers and village police officers, we try to make a presence the best we can.
24:48Sometimes we drive.
24:49We use snow machines and four-wheelers sometimes.
24:53And a lot of times, we use small airplanes.
24:56However we have to get out there, we get out there.
25:02This house right here.
25:03Yeah.
25:04It's in the back.
25:05So, underneath the boxes, we're all lit on fire.
25:09And it was starting to climb that wall.
25:11And you could tell something had been dumped on it.
25:13Well, you can still smell accelerant.
25:15There's gasoline here, so...
25:16Right.
25:17So you came over here and a bunch of community members put it out?
25:20Yeah, they put it out pretty quick.
25:21Okay.
25:22All right.
25:23Yeah.
25:24Well, it's a good thing that nobody got hurt.
25:25That's the main thing, so...
25:26Yeah, they're in there, man.
25:27Yeah, we're still investigating it.
25:29And we're going to try to contact the suspect while we're here.
25:33Right.
25:34So...
25:35I don't know what his story is.
25:36All I know is that he's been messaging me and threatening me out.
25:38Okay.
25:39Well, let's get out there, get some pictures, and...
25:43some CSI work out in the village, huh?
25:48The victim found what he thought was the container that was used for the arson.
25:52So, we're looking into this right now.
25:54Do you smell anything?
25:55No.
25:56It's been here for a minute, but it's maybe recently broken.
25:58Yeah.
25:59Because it's still got sharp edges.
26:03We'll take these things super serious.
26:05It's a felony, level crime, and there were kids inside the house when this was all happening.
26:10So, it's at the highest level of importance.
26:14All right, man.
26:15Thanks for coming.
26:16You bet.
26:17All right, we'll get to work.
26:18Thanks.
26:19All right.
26:20The suspect is from the village here.
26:25We've dealt with them both as a victim and suspect in several things.
26:29Oh, so it's right here?
26:30Yeah.
26:31Okay.
26:32Cool.
26:33Hey, what's up?
26:34Where were you when the fire transpired there?
26:35That fire?
26:36The fire, yeah.
26:37Yeah.
26:38So, what do you know about that?
26:39I know that was saying that was me that made that fire.
26:40Oh.
26:41I wouldn't do nothing like that.
26:42Okay.
26:43So, there'd be no reason why we'd find any evidence linking you or nobody would see you,
26:46like, running through the woods or anything like that?
26:47That's crazy.
26:48Okay.
26:49When was the last time you've ever been over there to his house?
26:50June 27th.
26:51That is the last time I would go over there.
26:52Okay.
26:53So, you're pretty specific about that day.
26:54Yeah.
26:55Because he kicked my ass and told me the next time I see you, I'm gonna still square you
26:59up and stuff like that.
27:00Okay.
27:01He's just crazy.
27:02Okay.
27:03So, yeah, you've had a beef with him for a while.
27:04Yeah.
27:05He's just crazy.
27:06Okay.
27:07So, yeah, you've had a beef with him for a while.
27:09Yeah.
27:10No, no, no, no.
27:11No, no.
27:12No, no.
27:13No, no, no, no.
27:14No, no, no.
27:15No, no.
27:16No, no, no.
27:17No, no, no.
27:18No, no.
27:19No, no, no.
27:20You've had a beef with him for a while.
27:22Yeah.
27:23Where were you when the fire started?
27:25Oh, it was up here at my dad's.
27:26Okay.
27:27Who was at the house with you?
27:28My mom.
27:29Your mom was there.
27:30Is your mom over there right now?
27:32Yeah.
27:33Yeah, let's go talk to mom real quick.
27:39Do you remember the day of the fire?
27:40I just remember Gladys said there was fire over .
27:43Okay.
27:44You were here when you heard that on the radio?
27:46Yeah.
27:47Where was Kevin at?
27:48I'm not sure where he was.
27:49Came back on a four-wheeler and he just went down to the baseball field.
27:52Was he by himself?
27:53He was by himself.
27:54Okay.
27:55Well, thank you.
27:56Okay.
27:58Let's talk to Kevin again and clear this up.
28:01All right.
28:02He's got some explaining to do.
28:06Hey, Kevin.
28:07You mind just talking with us out here?
28:09Yeah.
28:10So basically what we're trying to do is trying to get a corroboration for you.
28:15You know, an alibi, right?
28:17And we're having a difficult time doing that because it seems like it's not adding up from
28:22what you're telling us and what your mom's telling us.
28:24Do you think he did it?
28:27I don't really know.
28:28I don't really know.
28:29I don't think there's really enough to...
28:31There's not enough.
28:32...leave him on anything.
28:33Yeah, I know.
28:35It's frustrating.
28:36I'm Trooper Jason Venable.
28:37I've been with the Alaska State Troopers for about two and a half years now.
28:43A lot of the residential areas we have out here are different than what you'd see in the lower 48.
28:50Here in Alaska, people tend to have a little bit of land, and your neighbor is definitely a neighbor, but they might not be in shouting distance to you.
28:59We're in a pretty high crime area right now.
29:00A lot of drugs come in and out of this area.
29:02Lots of broke-down cars, lots of trailers, random outbuildings.
29:06A lot of places people can be that we can't see them.
29:07For now, we're just going to cruise around this neighborhood, see if we can't see anything that stands out.
29:13The guy parked on the road.
29:40parked on the road he doesn't want to look up at us we're gonna stop out with him and have a chat

34:12it was the second person we found war controlled substances in her vehicle
34:26it's my jabs and stuff now this is tar heroin and this is crystal methamphetamine
34:31can you just walk this way with me honey
34:33that shows you right there what a simple encounter can turn into a short foot chase a
34:50fight multiple searches and three people going to jail
35:04i'm trooper wesley booth and we're currently working
35:07night shift it's 4 30 in the morning and with the sun not setting people being up all day the
35:14constant daylight absolutely contribute to people's mental health works exaggerate underlying things
35:20that are there so we just have to be ready to probably have a very busy night
35:28we have a gentleman calling in and he said people had marched him out of his house at gunpoint and that
35:32he's just sitting in his front yard and like we all know everybody in alaska has a gun
35:38so that is always something to keep in the back of mind
35:42we're going to go try to make contact see exactly what's going on but of course be cautious
35:46we just have to assume he's probably going to be armed with something
35:53ready
35:55let's try to stick to the trees just and just try to listen first
36:02okay let's just make sure we approach cautiously
36:08back home when we 38 be advised there's nobody out front
36:12are you right out of the gate his emotional state was elevated
36:18okay we're gonna walk over here
36:22are you and there's people inside with guns okay
36:24walk over here they watched them hold me a gun player they put a 45 in my face
36:28and told me they're going to have to kill everybody
36:32there's people inside with guns okay how many people are going to be in your house right
36:42dude you tell me man i can't tell you you're the one who had no idea they put a 45 in my face
36:47and told me they were going to have to kill everybody okay so you can tell me it's a 45 but
36:51you can't tell me how many people were in there really i'm just trying to figure out i don't know
36:55good way to start but go over there and find out man well we're we're talking with you there over
36:59there trying to figure that out thank you when you get a gun put in your face and they take it

37:42made up man there's no i don't know that's a trooper have you been diagnosed with any mental
37:48health issues recently sir i'm not trying to be rude i'm just trying to figure out exactly what's
37:54going on because i'm not smelling the alcohol so i don't think you're drunk i'm not can you do us a
37:58favor and go inside get some sleep and then call us back if you still feel the same way they stole
38:04eighty five hundred dollars i feel who who the perps okay there's no evidence of anybody in your house
38:12there's nobody there there's nobody there there's no one there no you're not oh dude with his current
38:24mental state it's hard to know what he may or may not even have in the house go back inside and stay
38:29there once we got him in the house we all left the area and hopefully that just calms him right back down
38:35his story was absolutely all over the place a lot of signs telling me he's definitely hallucinating
38:46i'm thinking a quick decline in mental health and there's a possibility we'll start dealing with
38:52him a little bit more frequently in the future i'm trooper trevor norris i've been a trooper for
39:14almost four years now we're headed to a village today from bethel on our vessel here this is my
39:21partner trooper comfort good friend great american we had a teacher housing that got broken into
39:28yesterday and vandalized it's gonna be about a half hour boat ride hey i'm just leaving bethel on your
39:35way okay the village police officers are meeting with us to take us through town they end up being our
39:44local guides and local knowledge oh uh you guys hearing anything about this teacher housing break-in
39:51what are you guys hearing they're starting to hear rumors in the village of who it might have
39:56been so we're going to follow up on that this house one we're going to now is supposed to be pretty
40:03tore up from the vandalism i'm a preschool teacher in the winter and then for summer and christmas spring
40:11we're going to talk to you it's broken future housing it's really disappointing it makes me think that
40:18my future friends aren't going to want to come back
40:24the entirety of the house is destroyed every surface has got fire extinguisher dust on it and
40:30urine there's a spray painted phallic images on the walls everything's just scattered everywhere
40:35that is a mess that i don't want to be the guy cleaning up those are pretty small okay right here
40:43there's a couple footprints that appears this is probably a juvenile so we have two suspects both
40:50appear smaller footed so i'm going to go talk to their suspects here was one of the fellas that went in
40:58there did you see other boys huh yeah when they were there as we've been talking to each person
41:05involved they keep mentioning more names my uncle who's your uncle that i know okay who always in
41:14there with you just my friend what did you take oh my uncle okay well this has quickly turned into
41:23most of the children in the village participated in this teacher housing takeover we weren't able to
41:32recover a nintendo gaming device but we're talking five thousand dollars for damage in a situation like
41:39this it's just not feasible to take 15 to 20 juveniles back to bethel all through juvenile holding
41:45facilities so hopefully we'll get the community to work on cleaning this up
41:53i've got deep roots here in alaska alaska's in my blood i was born here hopefully this is where i die
42:07i mean hopefully not right here in tucksuk bay but hopefully alaska is home for the rest of my life
