05:56thank you.
06:00Almost everyone.
06:10who lost with that IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
06:32Exchanging a pair of victories in singles matches thus far in 2022, the rubber
06:38match between Tetsuya Daito, Katsuchiko Okada for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
07:02The run-up in preview tags Chris had more to do with Hiromu and
07:08Yo than they did champion and challenger Okada and Naito. And I think that suited both men
07:16just fine. They didn't seem to need any feeling out process before tonight.
07:21We talked a little bit through our event here today about Don Taku history. And it was the very first
07:34Don Taku in 1993 that Hulk Hogan headed into his match with the Great Muta. And he caused controversy
07:43by claiming that the championship he held at the time was but a trinket, an ornament on
07:49a Christmas tree next to the IWGP. That was then. And in 30 years, Okada has elevated the status of those
07:59legends of the IWGP to higher than anything, not just in the world of professional wrestling, but in
08:07professional sports. Five years ago, Okada stood in Pokoka, promising that wrestlers are superhuman,
08:15and that he will fight with all he has to show the fans something incredible, something inspirational,
08:22and someone unstoppable. Many call themselves the best in the world, but there is only one king,
08:29but the king of sports. And you, ladies and gentlemen, are looking at him here in the Pokoka
08:34though. Man, a Chris Charlton soliloquy sets the stage so perfectly
08:54for this matchup that just on paper, just as the participants walk to the rig,
08:58the hair in your arms begins to stand up. We've already seen a magical night.
09:05And folks, we've got one more match to go before a declarative statement must be made.
09:11IWGP,世界 Heavy Q Champion, K-O, 191cm, 107kg,
09:19Rainmaker, Okada Kazuchika!
09:34Brian exactement.
09:39Okada Kazuchika!
10:01But these two matches in 2022, it were almost like appetizers that the main course was just coming between he and Tetsuya Naito.
10:12We've had an incredible, incredible buffet here at Wrestling Dontaku.
10:18But I hope you've made room, Kevin, for a hell of an entree right here, right now.
10:25I'll loosen the belt. We'll make room. Red Shoes Uno.
10:31Presenting the championship belt.
10:34Naito not even needing to look at it.
10:38He doesn't want the championship. He wants what it represents.
10:43Naito made it very clear he was always against the unification of the heavyweight and intercontinental championships.
10:50Doesn't care for the championships.
10:51But what it means is that you're the best.
10:53And it means that you have a key to really burn bright and have your lights at the top of that marquee in the Tokyo Dome at Wrestle Kingdom.
11:03And our main event here at Wrestling Dontaku.
11:16As the celebration for Constitution Memorial Day here in Japan will take place just a couple of days,
11:25just part of this weekend, and a huge moment in this country's history.
11:42New Japan Pro Wrestling, Pro Wrestling in general, playing such a role.
11:46In the evolution, the change of mindset of this country.
12:00And now, the global language of professional wrestling as we reach all across the world here on njpwworld.com.
12:09And a truly global championship is at stake here.
12:13Thank you very much.
12:43And neither looking to create openings for the other.
12:47And when you're so evenly matched, Chris, matched as these two are, it could be the slightest, the slightest mistake.
12:57The difference between victory and defeat.
12:59Naito said that he loves locking up.
13:02He loves that first contact with Kazuchiko Carter and a little bit of delayed gratification.
13:08And here we go.
13:09Struggle for leverage.
13:17Brings center.
13:19A couple inches of height will benefit Okada here.
13:23Naito having to elongate his stride as Okada does, press the advantage all the way up against the ropes.
13:32And Red Shoes will call for a clean break.
13:34And that draws a reaction for the challenger.
13:47And that draws a reaction for the challenger.
13:47It's a condescending boot.
13:52It's a condescending boot.
13:54If ever a boot can be condescending.
13:56Almost an exact response.
14:03One-on-one in 2022.
14:09Six and six all-time.
14:12That's stretching back over 15 years.
14:16To Kazuchiko Carter's pre-debut against Tetsuya Naito, both in Young Lion Black tights.
14:24Naito, the forearms give him the early advantage, ever so slight.
14:32Now we'll look to take advantage here, sending Okada to the ropes, who ducks an elbow, who ducks a clothesline and answers with an elbow of his own.
14:53Pinpoint accuracy in the chest of the challenger.
15:04Kazuchiko Kata already off to an 8-1 start in singles matches in this calendar year.
15:0922-4 over the last 365 days.
15:14Just ridiculous. DDT.
15:18And right here in this town as well.
15:20Only six losses in 24 matches as the Rainmaker and Fukoka.
15:24Only one of those a singles loss.
15:27That being to AJ Styles at Dontaku 14.
15:31Naito is 4-6 here.
15:33But he's been unbeaten in this town in singles matches since August the 1st, 2011.
15:39Naito striking, or rather Okada striking Naito.
15:54Concentrating on the neck.
15:57The setup, of course, for either the submission, money clip, or the signature Rainmaker after another neck breaker.
16:06Now, here we go to the cover.
16:08Kind of a loose cover there, but Okada wanted to take the temperature of Naito.
16:13Seeing how he responds and clamp it on the chin lock.
16:17I think Naito or Okada there wanted the kick out so he could go great to that jaw.
16:23And that sort of...
16:25You don't think of Okada as a submission wrestler, but that's the exact sort of predicament that Billy Robinson style logic.
16:32You force someone into a pin knowing they'll kick out so that then you can get a submission.
16:39And Okada has so established the money clip as a submission finisher
16:47that now he's used it as a better setup to make the Rainmaker even more effective.
16:54And man, that movement side to side, there may be nobody quicker.
16:59Yeah, Okada would have been a track athlete had he stayed in school.
17:04But, you know, opted to get out of the school system straight out of middle school.
17:10New Japan Pro Wrestling would only accept high school graduates.
17:13So that's when he took himself to Mexico.
17:15Started training under Ultimo Dragon in Torimo.
17:22I was recently with Tiger Hattori.
17:24He told me the story of the first time he saw a 15 or 16 year old Okada down in Torimo.
17:34Saw him at Ultimo Dragon's gym.
17:36And Ultimo Dragon was the one who pointed out, of all the students that were there,
17:40the one that was the apple of Ultimo Dragon's eye was the Rainmaker.
17:45And Naito, aware of his surroundings enough to continue the role two different times,
17:52trying to avoid more contact.
17:54Rainmaker, so dangerous out here, loves to use the DDT on the floor.
17:59But instead now is going to run Naito no reverse.
18:03And it's Okada who pays.
18:05Naito just as dangerous as Okada is out on the floor.
18:17And look at this now.
18:18Instead of a DDT from Okada, it's a neckbreaker from Naito.
18:23So that counter-punching style of Tetsuya Naito lulling his opponent into a false sense of security,
18:33pays dividends for Naito the challenger who's put the champion Okada down,
18:38clutching his neck on the floor.
18:40And now Red Shoes, aware that he doesn't need to call for an immediate stoppage,
18:47will alert Naito to the fact he's going to begin the count and then start the count.
18:523, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11.
19:08You saw Okada flexing his hand, might have some pins and needles running down his arm
19:16after that jolting drop on his neck.
19:31Naito set perfectly in the center of the ring.
19:35Naito sometimes gets a little loose with his ring positioning.
19:39But man, his footwork is great so far here tonight.
19:42Floating over to a cover.
19:44Little bit of a loose cover there.
19:46Again, Naito will take the pin if it's there, knowing full well Okada at this point still very, very strong,
19:55even though he is in difficulty.
19:57Naito is resolutely on the neck here, Kevin.
20:02Not going after that face like he did heading into that title match in Hiroshima back in February.
20:09Very singular in his approach.
20:12What's he thinking here?
20:15He's vacillated between the neck and the knee.
20:17And you didn't know which direction he was going to go.
20:21And he snaps the throat of Okada.
20:25And now...
20:27What's this now?
20:29Oh no!
20:30This is going to be...
20:32If you thought the landing on the floor was bad.
20:35The edge of the ring even worse.
20:38Another neck breaker.
20:40Naito is moving crisply here.
20:55No wasted motion.
20:57And he is looking at low weight.
20:58Look at this, Chris.
20:59Look at this.
21:00Oh, and hanging.
21:01A hangman's neck breaker over the ropes.
21:05Look at Naito.
21:07You wouldn't...
21:08You wouldn't think, Kevin, that Naito was the challenger in this situation.
21:12Completely under control.
21:14Wrestling like the champion here.
21:16Dictating the pace over Kazuchika Okada.
21:21Now, a firmer cover to kick out at two.
21:26As I mentioned earlier,
21:28the junior heavyweight tag team partners dominated the conversation
21:33in the run-up tag matches involving Naito and Okada.
21:36So both bent coming into this matchup.
21:38As close to 100% physically as you possibly can.
21:41But Naito sees the control here.
21:44Solely on the neck of Kazuchika Okada.
21:48And now clamping that full Nelson with the leg.
21:51Driving the head forward.
21:54And I think in lieu of that lack of physical damage,
21:59Kazuchika Okada was trying to pay the head gain.
22:02Right from that challenge.
22:04Saying to Naito,
22:05Hey, I love that Destino.
22:06Why don't you try and hit me with it?
22:08Because he knew that it was in the New Japan Cup.
22:12It wasn't Destino.
22:13It was Povo de Estreja.
22:14That roll-up that got the win for Naito.
22:17He was trying to force Naito into a mistake.
22:20But Naito is making absolutely none so far.
22:24Here in our main event.
22:26And now even this.
22:27Red Shoes is calling for the break after Okada did get to the ropes.
22:31And now after leaguring in that hold for as long as possible.
22:37And one final wrench of the legs tight.
22:41You can never forget Naito of course Chris.
22:47You told the story so well.
22:50Naito is a complete student of the game.
22:53Every facet of professional wrestling.
22:56From the referee to the ring.
22:58How it's constructed.
22:59All the way through matches.
23:00No matter the scenario.
23:02That comes from Tetsunaito being such a hardcore fan of professional wrestling.
23:11That dictates everything that he does in the ring.
23:15He's doing it with a fans mindset as well as a wrestler's mindset.
23:20Look at this now.
23:21Swing DDT.
23:22And Okada able to cast the sides.
23:26Only for a moment.
23:27And the boot catches him.
23:28The boot catches him.
23:30And while Naito has not missed on anything.
23:33Okada with his physical will.
23:35Able to put Naito down.
23:37Perhaps to slow some of the momentum.
23:40Because first ten minutes of this match.
23:44Taken some damage.
23:46But man.
23:47It has been picture perfect Naito thus far.
23:56Naito!
23:57The knockdowns underneath the boot this time.
24:05Flapjack.
24:06Up in the lights.
24:09Went Naito.
24:10And Okada is so adept at using that flapjack to shift the flow of momentum.
24:16Get that pendulum back swinging his way.
24:19And let's see if he can follow up here against the challenger.
24:35Scoop him up.
24:36Hook the neck.
24:37Neckbreaker.
24:38Here's a cover two.
24:41And a kick out.
24:50Money clip.
24:51Standing version of the money clip.
24:55Naito trying to turn his head inward.
25:00And is able to free himself.
25:02Scores with an elbow to the back of the head.
25:04Looking for the combination.
25:07Out of the way Okada.
25:08Two boots to the chest.
25:10Second rope.
25:11Oh man.
25:12Wow.
25:13The combination was denied for Naito.
25:19So he was trying to ad lib a little bit.
25:21But Okada was one step quicker and had that drop kick in reserve.
25:25Look at this.
25:26And whatever Naito had in mind.
25:31One.
25:32The incredible drop kick.
25:34Three.
25:35Four.
25:36Mentioned Okada.
25:40Perhaps having a track of field career.
25:44Well he could have been a high jumper.
25:47He could have been a pole vaulter.
25:49He could have been a distance runner.
25:51And all of those skills.
25:55And part of the formula.
26:00Made this decade of dominance for Okada.
26:05In the title scene.
26:06And now elevating.
26:07And sending Naito cascading over the barricade.
26:13This is where Okada likes to go high risk.
26:16In these big buildings.
26:20Can it be a long jump pick, Evan?
26:28Here we go.
26:29Here we go.
26:30And gets it.
26:31Where's the ball?
26:32That's the cycle.
26:34Here we go.
26:36Thank you so much.
26:37Thank you so much for us.
26:39Thanks for coming.
26:40Here we go.
26:41Nice.
26:42Nice.
26:43The goal was to finish.
26:44I'd say this is the easy.
26:45How should I get it?
26:46Take it easy.
26:47I'd say this is the easy.
26:48That's the easy.
26:49That's the easy.
26:50To finish.
26:51You can trust me.
26:52You can trust me.
26:53My arm is not.
26:54Take it easy.
26:55I need not.
26:56You can trust me.
26:5715 minute call, Red shoes letting both men know that he'll start the count.
27:14And now that he's back in the ring, the count begins, three, four, five, six, and Okada on
27:25his feet. Will he bypass Naito or bring his challenger in? Yeah, he's going to bring Naito
27:34in. And now we'll wheel Naito under the bottom rope to continue on.
27:50Certainly there's not even the hint of the idea of this match going to a count out as
27:55far as Okada is concerned. And I'm sure the same for Tetsuya Naito. So Okada bringing
28:00Naito back in, but in full control and now poised right in the crosshairs of what will
28:06be a huge drop kick if he hits it. My God. It's human bullet time, Kevin. When he takes
28:17flight, it's like time stops for a split second before he delivers that blow. And now right
28:24into the money clip again. And this time Naito is going to have to work a lot harder to get
28:31out of that hole.
28:33Naito trying to pinch his chin down and Okada sensing he might be able to get either a tap
28:45out or perhaps a stoppage. Naito resisting and does get to the ropes.
28:52So the first 10 minutes were just about all Tetsuya Naito. Coming up empty on the combination,
29:12the drop kick to the floor and the wheels have come off very quickly. But that's what Okada
29:19could do to you. Scooping a slam, send the camera man to the side. If there was a decathlon
29:31in wrestling, Okada would win the gold. Get ready for a nice wide shot of the Fokoko Dome
29:43here. There you go, Rocky.
29:48Here we go for Rainmaker, but Okada not giving up his position. He'll try it again. Rainmaker
30:09no swing and a miss. Naito popped him up. Spinebuster kept the wrist, but didn't go Rainmaker, went
30:16for the Spinebuster instead. Now he's got a little bit of breathing room.
30:19Naito is usually better in space, but kept Okada close to him with that wrist control that allowed him to elevate and drive Okada down.
30:37Subtle differences in this match between what we've seen in their previous two encounters.
30:49And now the combination, there will be no answer from Pesachiko Okada.
31:01And the combination, and the combination, Cabron, goes.
31:13Gloria, let's see if he can hit it. Going to struggle for him to hit this on Okada.
31:28Coming forward though. Naito moving with purpose now. Oh, and now he's going to get it coming.
31:35Yeah. Weakening Okada, Gloria too. And a kick out. Way back in the day, and when he's beaten Okada in the fast, he's used that to set up for Stardust Press, but now into Pluma Blanca.
31:53The move that he created, or his variation of the Koji Clutch, started using it when he came back from knee injury in the 2014 G1 Climax was instrumental to his first G1 win in 2013 rather.
32:10Could see him to the world title, but Naito looking out the corner of his eyes and you can see him gauge the distance for Okada to the ropes and applying extra pressure. He might be out, Kevin.
32:27He is fading. Okada tried that lunge. Really extended. Now he's there.
32:37Again, at nearly 6'3", Okada is so tough to submit without trapping his legs. Uses all of that length so perfectly.
32:51He is able to survive, Kuba Blanca.
32:54Okada in trouble here. Naito is going to think Frankensteiner.
33:01Okada, it's coming by God! What a powerbomb! Wow!
33:09Okada was almost crisp. It was like he was about to give up. Almost. I can't stop it. I can't stop Frankensteiner. I'm just going to set. But instead, it's dead.
33:16Okada, the millisecond of reaction time that it took for a second.
33:23Okada, it's coming by God! What a powerbomb! Wow!
33:28Okada was almost crisp. It was like he was about to give up. Almost. I can't stop it. I can't stop the Frankensteiner. I'm just going to set. But instead,
33:38the millisecond of reaction time that it took for Okada to transition from defense to offense to hit that big move, that powerbomb out of the corner. Incredible.
33:53Okada, it's incredible.
34:21And Okada now gaining wrist control and he's going to begin to walk up. And we'll hammer Naito. No! Swing and a miss!
34:37Naito set the rope, follows in. Drop kick, hangs onto the rope. Oh, attack knife, attack knife!
34:42Two! Naito won all of his... Fuchibak, there we go! Destino! Destino! Blocked!
34:51Bang!
34:55And the roar was it a sigh of the crowd despite themselves at that thunk of flesh on flesh and a second.
35:04Second!
35:22And now, the Rainmaker! No!
35:24Naito!
35:28Oh! Good God!
35:30Naito exploded into the ropes. And it might just be the ropes that have saved him in this one.
35:48As Okada will have to hoist the dead weight of Naito up.
35:51That one broke him.
35:54Tombstone, wait a minute.
35:58Naito able to extricate himself.
36:00Oh, spinning Rainmaker, no! Countered!
36:02What's this now? Oh, man!
36:06Digging deep!
36:08It's Naito, we saw it in Sapporo.
36:11Digging deep into that playbook, but not just playing the hits.
36:15That didn't work in February.
36:17And you can see they're always calculating.
36:21Naito thinking of a game plan as he tries to recover here.
36:27DINESO CHODO
36:35DINESO CHODO
36:40DINESO CHODO
36:44DINESO CHODO
36:46DINESO CHODO
36:48ALREADY 25 MINUTES IN
36:52Already 25 minutes in and now, man, a couple of years ago in the G1, with a 30-minute time limit,
37:02Naito would be in a position, back-and-forth battle, he'd hear 25 minutes on the clock, and he would start this.
37:11A seemingly endless parade of elbow strikes to the neck.
37:16That clock ticking in his head, knowing he had five minutes left to put his opponent away.
37:23He's got 35 here, but it's the same mindset.
37:30Hammer away, hammer away, Destino.
37:38These are brutal strikes.
37:46Trying to pound in the nails into that coffin, and this might lead to the final blow.
37:55If he can get Esperanza.
37:58Yes, he can.
38:00Oh, man.
38:02Even now, plus 25.
38:04Naito's footwork.
38:07Really paying off.
38:09Now, you know he wants that running, Destino, Kevin.
38:16He's got it.
38:19Back to the neck.
38:21Step up into Guri.
38:24Okada looking for him.
38:25Oh, and a man, Destino!
38:27Destino!
38:28Oh!
38:29Oh!
38:29Oh!
38:30Oh!
38:31Oh!
38:31Oh!
38:31Oh!
38:31Oh!
38:31Oh!
38:31Oh!
38:31Oh!
38:31Oh!
38:32Oh!
38:32Oh!
38:32Oh!
38:32Oh!
38:33Oh!
38:33Oh!
38:34Oh!
38:35Oh!
38:36Oh!
38:37Oh!
38:38Oh!
38:39Oh!
38:42Can he finish the deal?
38:44Can he ring up the arm?
38:45Can he hit that full version?

39:35German suplex.
39:38Here, Papa D'Eastria, cut us out of the beat.
39:41Oh, man, the cup-bone kick.
39:43Vakata, I thought he was out for a second, but that jump kick.

40:38Those precious extra seconds before Naito was able to make the cover.
40:42all that separates Petsuya Naito from the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
40:50David, I don't think we've ever seen a car to use that landslide as a setup and not go on to win the match.
40:58But Naito is the master of defying logic.
41:03Valentino scoops him instead, and you know he's going to go upstairs.
41:09So I am with faith, and touch me with a dog! He missed it!
