A new UK trailer and poster have been released today by BFI Distribution for The Chronology of Water, the directorial feature debut from Oscar-nominated actor Kristen Stewart (The Twilight Saga, Spencer, Personal Shopper, Love Lies Bleeding), which premiered in Un Certain Regard at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, followed by its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.

Adapted by Kristen Stewart from the acclaimed memoir by Lidia Yuknavitch, The Chronology of Water stars Imogen Poots (The Father, Green Room, Vivarium) in a fearless, powerful and intimate performance, with support from Jim Belushi, Thora Birch, Charlie Carrick, Susannah Flood, Esmé Creed-Miles, Earl Cave, Kim Gordon, Tom Sturridge and Michael Epp. The film is a poetic and unflinching exploration of identity, self-discovery and resilience, brought vividly to life through Stewart’s assured directorial vision.

The Chronology of Water is a portrait of Lidia, brought up in an environment torn apart by violence and alcohol, who escapes through competitive swimming, sexual experimentation, toxic relationships and addiction, before finding her voice and her unexpected freedom through writing. Lidia’s journey is an exploration that shows us how trauma can be transformed into art through re-possessing our own bloody histories, particularly those uniquely experienced by the bodies of women and girls.

The Chronology of Water is produced by Michael Pruss, Rebecca Feuer, Charles Gillibert, Yulia Zayceva, Max Pavlov, Svetlana Punte, Maggie McLean, Kristen Stewart, Dylan Meyer and Andy Mingo. It is a co-production between Scott Free, CG Cinéma International, Forma Pro Films and Nevermind Pictures.

The Chronology of Water opens in UK and Irish cinemas on 6th February 2026.
