00:00:00There's no sell-by date on that sort of thing.
00:00:03What they wrote was timeless because it was authentic.
00:00:07It's the kind of show I wish was on the air right now.
00:00:12Whenever you find it on TV, it makes me stop.
00:00:15And every joke is still just as funny.
00:00:17And this murderer's row of a cast.
00:00:20Ray, what's somebody you wanted in your home?
00:00:22You wanted to be part of that family.
00:00:26I believe in 20, 30, 40, 50 more years.
00:00:30We'll still love Everybody Loves Raymond.
00:00:31The writing and the acting, directing, that was near perfect, my God.
00:00:35And it's in color.
00:00:36We'll see you on your call.
00:00:44Oh, my God.
00:01:45Don't let me cry yet. There's going to be a lot of that.
00:01:47Let me just tell you something.
00:01:48The reason we're doing this is because of the fans.
00:01:51I mean, I miss it. I miss everything.
00:01:53I miss you people. I miss the cast.
00:01:57My real wife is backstage with my TV wife.
00:02:00Yes.
00:02:01If you've been married for a long time, folks,
00:02:04you know, there's a lot of ups and downs,
00:02:05and this is an example of how long we've been married.
00:02:08The other day, she actually said to me,
00:02:10you know, you don't talk a lot,
00:02:13but when you do, it's too much.
00:02:19We're going to have a great night.
00:02:21I'm so glad you're here.
00:02:22Who came from, like, far away?
00:02:24Who's from the... Where are you from?
00:02:25Philippines. I watched you when I was, like, seven or eight.
00:02:28In the Philippines?
00:02:29Yes.
00:02:30But, of course, dubbed in...
00:02:31No, I learned English from...
00:02:33You learned English from me!
00:02:39Well...
00:02:40I appreciate it, but thank you very much.
00:02:46Listen, before we go even further,
00:02:48I want to bring out a man
00:02:49who's been my partner in this venture,
00:02:53in this journey for the last 30 years.
00:02:55He's the reason that this show exists,
00:02:58but this was his baby, just like it was mine.
00:03:01Please welcome Phil Rosenthal.
00:03:16How great is this?
00:03:19This is amazing.
00:03:20You learned how to speak English from Ray Romano?
00:03:23So were your first English words...
00:03:25Oh, no!
00:03:25First of all, let's get one thing out of the way.
00:03:31This, I'm sure you will know, is a reunion.
00:03:34This is a reunion that we...
00:03:36Not a reboot.
00:03:36We're never gonna do one
00:03:37because we're missing three cast members,
00:03:41three family members,
00:03:42so we would never try to do the show without them.
00:03:44It wouldn't be the same.
00:03:45No.
00:03:45We have too much respect for the show itself
00:03:47and for the beautiful audience...
00:03:50Right.
00:03:50To keep it the way it is.
00:03:51And thankfully, the show is still on
00:03:54every day all over the world, which...
00:03:57Right.
00:03:59If you want to visit your friends, we're here.
00:04:03How did we meet?
00:04:05Well, I was in bed.
00:04:08And I was watching David Letterman with my wife.
00:04:11This would have been 1995?
00:04:1395.
00:04:16We had a production company
00:04:18and we were always looking for a funny project.
00:04:21And I think we were all pretty greedy when we saw Ray.
00:04:25Our ladies and gentlemen, next guest,
00:04:27is a very funny comedian
00:04:28making his first appearance with us tonight.
00:04:31He can also be seen...
00:04:31Wow.
00:04:32I just look like a mid-level mortuary
00:04:35has gotten a hold of me.
00:04:36Do me a favor now.
00:04:37Please, a nice welcome for Ray Romano.
00:04:39Ray!
00:04:40My first impression,
00:04:44he's wearing his father's suit.
00:04:46But that's fine.
00:04:47I'm going to let that go.
00:04:48I have a three-year-old daughter
00:04:50and twin two-year-old boys.
00:04:53Wow.
00:04:57Single people are here.
00:05:01I can make them laugh.
00:05:02I can make an infant laugh in a second.
00:05:03I'll tell you, I'm losing my perspective
00:05:05on adult humor.
00:05:06I wrote one new joke
00:05:08since my twins were born here.
00:05:09Is this funny?
00:05:10What do you think it is?
00:05:12Hi!
00:05:14Hi, everybody!
00:05:17That rings true with me.
00:05:18I had no idea how to be a parent,
00:05:21so I thought,
00:05:21if I can make the kid laugh,
00:05:23I've done something.
00:05:25I'm glad.
00:05:25I'm glad you laughed.
00:05:26If you didn't laugh at that,
00:05:28I would have had to
00:05:29come and rub my nose in your bellies.
00:05:31Yeah.
00:05:32Ray is the guy,
00:05:35and let's go,
00:05:36and before he gets in the cab,
00:05:38let's get him to sign something.
00:05:39And I think it was a combination
00:05:40of his likability
00:05:42and the quality of the material.
00:05:44I thought, you know,
00:05:46pretty run-of-the-mill topics,
00:05:47but the quality of the jokes
00:05:49in those topics,
00:05:50I thought were superior.
00:05:51It was just dumb luck
00:05:53that we had anything to do with it.
00:05:55It's like, you know,
00:05:57kids playing with fireworks.
00:05:59Oh, geez, it actually exploded.
00:06:01It was sort of like that.
00:06:03APPLAUSE
00:06:04That's why we're here.
00:06:13A week later,
00:06:14they called me
00:06:15and said,
00:06:15we'd like to sign you to a deal
00:06:17to try to produce a sitcom.
00:06:20Right.
00:06:21And then,
00:06:22I had to go find a guy
00:06:24to write it and run it.
00:06:27And...
00:06:27Did you?
00:06:30So, they set us up
00:06:31on a blind date
00:06:32here in L.A.
00:06:33at Arts Deli
00:06:34on Ventura Boulevard,
00:06:35and we meet,
00:06:36and I say to Ray,
00:06:38you know,
00:06:38tell me about yourself
00:06:39just like I would
00:06:40with any of you
00:06:41if we were going to work together,
00:06:42but we didn't know each other.
00:06:43So, tell me about yourself.
00:06:44And you said,
00:06:46well, I got twin boys
00:06:46and an older daughter,
00:06:48and my parents live close by
00:06:49in Queens.
00:06:50You got to do the voice?
00:06:51You got to do the...
00:06:51A little bit.
00:06:52Yeah, okay.
00:06:52And then, uh,
00:06:53my older brother's
00:06:55a police sergeant.
00:06:56He lives with them.
00:06:57He's always touching
00:06:58every bite of food
00:06:59to his gym
00:06:59before he eats it,
00:07:00and he's kind of jealous of me.
00:07:01He saw my stand-up comedy award,
00:07:03and he said,
00:07:04never ends for Raymond.
00:07:05Everybody loves Raymond.
00:07:07And do you remember
00:07:08what I said?
00:07:10You said, uh,
00:07:11well, I don't think
00:07:12there's anything there.
00:07:13Jokingly.
00:07:17I thought that was
00:07:17a very good place to start,
00:07:19and what I didn't know
00:07:20about the personalities
00:07:21in Ray's family,
00:07:22I filled in
00:07:23with the personalities
00:07:24from my family.
00:07:26Ninety percent
00:07:27of everything
00:07:28you saw on the show
00:07:29happened to me
00:07:30or to Ray
00:07:30or to one of the other
00:07:31writers.
00:07:34What are you doing?
00:07:35The show had premiered,
00:07:39and Ray said to his wife,
00:07:40Anna,
00:07:41my show just premiered
00:07:43in front of all these people,
00:07:44and she said,
00:07:45yeah,
00:07:46and I just cleaned plum
00:07:47off the ceiling
00:07:48from the kids.
00:07:50I think this show
00:07:51means everything to us.
00:07:53It got to capture
00:07:54our family,
00:07:56Ray's family,
00:07:57everybody who worked here,
00:07:59their families.
00:08:00It was just like
00:08:01a community, you know?
00:08:02We became a community.
00:08:03We all felt so safe here
00:08:04and welcomed.
00:08:06I remember my dad would,
00:08:07he'd come out
00:08:08right before the show,
00:08:09he'd greet the audience.
00:08:11He always would bring me up,
00:08:12say hello.
00:08:13He'd do the same joke
00:08:14with the audience
00:08:14about having twins.
00:08:16Like, here's Matt.
00:08:17I have another son.
00:08:19If he was here,
00:08:19it looked like this,
00:08:20and then I'd go behind him
00:08:21and stand on that side.
00:08:23There's one episode
00:08:24based on a real thing
00:08:25that I did,
00:08:26which is when I was
00:08:26in first grade.
00:08:27We all had to write books,
00:08:29you know,
00:08:29little picture books.
00:08:31My book was
00:08:32The Angry Family.
00:08:38All the parents
00:08:39came in to read it,
00:08:40and, you know,
00:08:41they were all
00:08:42looking at my parents.
00:08:44Mommy was mad
00:08:45at the daddy.
00:08:49He got an episode
00:08:50out of it.
00:08:52Yeah, the Ray
00:08:53on the show
00:08:53is the Ray at home,
00:08:54and that is because
00:08:56at home,
00:08:56he does a lot
00:08:57of annoying things
00:08:58that drive me crazy.
00:09:00I think if I were
00:09:01to do an impression,
00:09:02it's just a little bit
00:09:02deeper,
00:09:04like, grunt,
00:09:05like,
00:09:05I don't know.
00:09:07People do the grunt,
00:09:08right?
00:09:08Ugh.
00:09:08Ah, come on.
00:09:09My back is here.
00:09:11It's a little,
00:09:12ugh.
00:09:12Okay, now it's,
00:09:13now it's even worse.
00:09:14Now it's even worse.
00:09:15Deborah.
00:09:15Who brought the cookies here?
00:09:17Who brought the donuts?
00:09:18All right,
00:09:18I'm just gonna eat one.
00:09:19Oh, my God.
00:09:20It's so good.
00:09:21Five minutes later.
00:09:23Ugh,
00:09:23my stomach hurts.
00:09:24Ali,
00:09:24why'd you do that?
00:09:26Oh, damn.
00:09:26Oh, no.
00:09:28Deborah.
00:09:29Yep, there,
00:09:29it went again.
00:09:29I think one of the things
00:09:33that put it over the top
00:09:35where CBS
00:09:36had to decide
00:09:37whether to put us on
00:09:38was something
00:09:40out of your actual life,
00:09:42which was...
00:09:42Well, when I'm writing
00:09:43the pilot,
00:09:43I'm thinking,
00:09:44how do we convey
00:09:45exactly,
00:09:46in a short amount of time,
00:09:48how crazy
00:09:49Ray's parents are?
00:09:50And then this happened
00:09:52to me,
00:09:52where I sent my parents,
00:09:54I thought I was being nice,
00:09:56a gift
00:09:57of Fruit of the Month Club.
00:10:01Look,
00:10:01I appreciate the thought,
00:10:03Raymond,
00:10:03but please,
00:10:03don't ever send us
00:10:04any more food again,
00:10:05okay?
00:10:06Thanks.
00:10:06Thanks, Doug.
00:10:07Well, another box
00:10:08is coming next month.
00:10:10What?
00:10:10More pears?
00:10:12No.
00:10:13No, it's a different fruit
00:10:14every month.
00:10:16Every month?
00:10:17Yes, yes,
00:10:18that's why they call it
00:10:18Fruit of the Month Club.
00:10:20It's a club?
00:10:21Oh, my God,
00:10:22what am I gonna do
00:10:22with all this fruit?
00:10:23Well, most people like it,
00:10:25Ma.
00:10:25Oh, you share it,
00:10:26share it with all your friends.
00:10:27Which friends?
00:10:28I don't know,
00:10:29Lee and Stan.
00:10:30Lee and Stan buy
00:10:30their own fruit.
00:10:32Oh, why did you
00:10:33do this to me?
00:10:35Oh, my God.
00:10:36I can't talk
00:10:37to Stuart's fruit
00:10:38in the house.
00:10:38Oh.
00:10:39What do you think
00:10:40we are, invalids?
00:10:42We can't go out
00:10:43and get our own fruit?
00:10:45I'm trying to tell them.
00:10:46Oh, right,
00:10:47I'm canceling
00:10:47the Fruit Club.
00:10:48Oh, good,
00:10:49thank you, Raymond,
00:10:50thank you.
00:10:51And don't do that again.
00:10:53Like we don't have
00:10:53enough problems.
00:10:55What I didn't realize
00:11:03and what I learned
00:11:03from doing that,
00:11:05from us doing that,
00:11:07oh, wait,
00:11:08your parents
00:11:08are all crazy, too.
00:11:10Yes.
00:11:11We get it all the time.
00:11:12People from all
00:11:13other parts of the world
00:11:14tell us,
00:11:15that's my mother,
00:11:15that's my father,
00:11:17that's my mother.
00:11:17We didn't know your mother.
00:11:18We were writing our mother.
00:11:19And we have so many
00:11:20favorite episodes,
00:11:21some of the ones
00:11:22we're going to talk
00:11:23about tonight.
00:11:23I have one that just
00:11:25came to mind,
00:11:25and it's good
00:11:26since we're starting.
00:11:27You know,
00:11:27we did a flashback episode
00:11:28at the end of every season,
00:11:30and this was my favorite
00:11:32because it's how they met,
00:11:34meaning Ray and Debra.
00:11:36You know,
00:11:37it looks like I made
00:11:37too much food here
00:11:38if you're, um, hungry.
00:11:39Oh, yeah?
00:11:43Yeah, you want some?
00:11:45All right, yeah.
00:11:46Wrap it up.
00:11:46I'll eat it in the truck.
00:11:52Can I ask you something?
00:11:54Yeah, sure.
00:11:56Were you making
00:11:57all that food for someone
00:11:59and they didn't show up?
00:12:01They showed up.
00:12:05Hey, you want something to drink?
00:12:07Yeah, yeah.
00:12:07Well, let me get that.
00:12:08Okay, the glasses
00:12:09are right there.
00:12:09Okay.
00:12:10Price?
00:12:11Yeah.
00:12:11That'd be great.
00:12:27I like the round cubes
00:12:29with the holes in them.
00:12:30Those are my favorite
00:12:31kind of cubes.
00:12:35Are you okay?
00:12:38Yeah, I'm fine.
00:12:39Ah, you all right?
00:12:41Yeah.
00:12:46You're a good kisser.
00:12:48All right, you're in shock.
00:12:50You're both so great in that.
00:12:51You're both so sweet to me
00:12:58in addition to being funny.
00:12:59The flashback episodes
00:13:00were always...
00:13:01So fun.
00:13:02...what am I fun to do?
00:13:03Look, I like all the episodes,
00:13:04but of course,
00:13:05there's some we like
00:13:06more than others.
00:13:07And I have, like,
00:13:08a top five,
00:13:08and the one off the top
00:13:10of my head
00:13:10is called
00:13:12Talk to Your Daughter.
00:13:13So Talk to Your Daughter
00:13:14is about
00:13:15at some point
00:13:17having to have the talk
00:13:19with your child
00:13:20about the birds
00:13:22and the bees,
00:13:23you know?
00:13:23When a man and a woman
00:13:25love each other
00:13:26very much,
00:13:27they get married.
00:13:29And then sometimes
00:13:31they decide
00:13:32to make a baby.
00:13:34I know that the man
00:13:35and the woman
00:13:35have to do something,
00:13:36but why are we born?
00:13:39Why has God put us here?
00:13:41Why are we here, Daddy?
00:13:59Yeah, I heard you.
00:14:00I heard you.
00:14:03You don't want to talk
00:14:04about sex?
00:14:08What do you mean?
00:14:08I don't even want
00:14:09to talk about sex.
00:14:10She started asking
00:14:11questions about life.
00:14:12Why did God put us here?
00:14:13Crazy stuff like that.
00:14:16Wow.
00:14:17So what did you say?
00:14:17I told her we're here
00:14:18because heaven is crowded.
00:14:23You said heaven is crowded?
00:14:24I got ambushed!
00:14:26If you want to know
00:14:27what's in the Bible,
00:14:28why don't you talk
00:14:28to Father Hubley?
00:14:29Hey, that's right.
00:14:31You know what?
00:14:31It's his job
00:14:32to know these things.
00:14:33What, are you going
00:14:34to call him?
00:14:35Yeah.
00:14:35What are we putting
00:14:36the money in that basket for?
00:14:38Me and the family
00:14:39were just sitting around
00:14:40and we had a quick
00:14:41question for you.
00:14:43What is the meaning
00:14:44of life?
00:14:46So if you could get back
00:14:48to us as soon as possible,
00:14:49we'd appreciate it,
00:14:50all right?
00:14:56I'd hate to admit it,
00:14:57but I'm guilty of...
00:14:58What?
00:14:59I didn't have that talk
00:15:00with my kids.
00:15:01Now I have 19 grandchildren.
00:15:03All right,
00:15:05they don't want to hear
00:15:06two old guys talk.
00:15:07They don't?
00:15:08Should we bring out
00:15:09some people?
00:15:10Yes, yes.
00:15:13Let's do that.
00:15:15We'll do it right away.
00:15:16When I got married,
00:15:24I didn't just get a husband.
00:15:25I got a whole freak show
00:15:27that set up their tent
00:15:27right across the street.
00:15:30Oh, you were open
00:15:32and considerate
00:15:33and willing to look
00:15:33at your own faults.
00:15:34You made me sick.
00:15:36Ray.
00:15:37Ray.
00:15:37Ray?
00:15:38Ray!
00:15:38Hello, Raymond.
00:15:39I do not have
00:15:41a drinking problem, sir.
00:15:42What I have
00:15:43is a mother-in-law problem.
00:15:45No, no, no.
00:15:52We're going to counseling.
00:15:53No!
00:15:54You meant what I said
00:15:55here today.
00:15:55I love you!
00:15:56I'm pregnant!
00:15:57I am not the yeller.
00:15:58You are the reason
00:15:59for the yeller!
00:16:00I have no idea
00:16:01what I have to put up with.
00:16:08Ladies and gentlemen,
00:16:10Patricia Heaton.
00:16:12Patty!
00:16:15Look at these two.
00:16:32I'm so happy.
00:16:33Do you know,
00:16:34I didn't say this,
00:16:35we saw 200 women
00:16:37before we found Patty Heaton.
00:16:40200.
00:16:41And when she came in,
00:16:43she just knocked it
00:16:44out of the park.
00:16:45I mean, you can talk
00:16:46about what that day
00:16:46was like.
00:16:48Well, I was going through,
00:16:50and I think why the show
00:16:51worked, we were all
00:16:52going through what
00:16:53the Barone family
00:16:54was going through
00:16:55in our lives.
00:16:55We all had kids.
00:16:56Yes.
00:16:56We all were newly married.
00:16:57Yes.
00:16:58Yes, and I had,
00:16:59I had a three-year-old
00:17:00and a one-year-old
00:17:01in my life.
00:17:02Right.
00:17:03I had a babysitting issue
00:17:05when I was coming
00:17:06to the audition.
00:17:06I needed to get back.
00:17:08I was cutting out coupons
00:17:09for 50 cents
00:17:10off two packs
00:17:11of Ballpark Franks.
00:17:13And so I needed the gig.
00:17:16And I got there,
00:17:17and there was a waiting room
00:17:17of at least eight women.
00:17:19And I thought,
00:17:19I'm never going to get back
00:17:20in time for the babysitter.
00:17:22And so I went in
00:17:23and sat there,
00:17:24and I just needed
00:17:25to get this audition done.
00:17:27And there was a guy
00:17:28sitting in the corner,
00:17:29and I thought,
00:17:29maybe he can get me
00:17:30some water
00:17:31while we're waiting
00:17:32for Ray to come.
00:17:33It was him.
00:17:34And I didn't really
00:17:34have to do research,
00:17:36and I didn't really
00:17:36have to do acting,
00:17:37because it was what
00:17:38we were all dealing
00:17:39with in our marriages.
00:17:40And so, fortunately,
00:17:42we got to monetize that.
00:17:44Yeah.
00:17:44Yes.
00:17:45You were living the role.
00:17:46You were living the role.
00:17:48You know,
00:17:48when I need to talk to Ray
00:17:49about, like,
00:17:50my feelings
00:17:51or our children,
00:17:52I know I have
00:17:53until the commercial's over.
00:17:54That gives me 30 seconds.
00:17:56And if there's a girl
00:17:57in the commercial
00:17:58or a truck
00:17:59with big wheels
00:18:00or, God forbid,
00:18:01a monkey, forget it.
00:18:03I think it was
00:18:04the first show
00:18:04I'd worked on.
00:18:05I'd worked for a while
00:18:05on TV that really
00:18:06encouraged us
00:18:07to bring in
00:18:08our stories from home.
00:18:09Phil in the writer's room
00:18:10only half-jokingly said,
00:18:12all right,
00:18:13we need two more stories.
00:18:13Anybody having a fight
00:18:14with their spouse?
00:18:15Phil's idea
00:18:16when he was running
00:18:17the show was,
00:18:18how can you write
00:18:19about real life
00:18:19if you can't live one?
00:18:21There's an episode
00:18:21of Raymond called
00:18:22The 10th Anniversary
00:18:23where Ray and Deborah
00:18:24put in the VHS tape
00:18:25of their wedding
00:18:26on their 10th anniversary.
00:18:28And discovered
00:18:33that he's taped over
00:18:34with a Super Bowl.
00:18:38I did that.
00:18:40It was my first anniversary.
00:18:41We put in our VHS tape
00:18:43and discovered
00:18:44that I had taped over
00:18:45our wedding
00:18:46with an episode
00:18:46of Everybody Loves Raymond.
00:18:48Where did our wedding go?
00:18:49It's just like
00:18:56the stories seem authentic.
00:18:57And whether it's
00:18:58more exaggerated
00:18:58than maybe it would have
00:18:59happened in real life,
00:19:00like that kernel of truth
00:19:01I think comes through.
00:19:0310 years,
00:19:04that's enough.
00:19:04It was such a pleasure
00:19:10to write
00:19:12for both of you.
00:19:14And there was
00:19:15one other
00:19:15that was
00:19:18Phil's getting emotional.
00:19:20A little bit
00:19:20because it's a dream
00:19:22to wind up
00:19:23with people like this.
00:19:24If you're just a writer,
00:19:26you pray for someone
00:19:27to come along
00:19:28and give so much more
00:19:30beyond it
00:19:31and to make it real.
00:19:32My favorite thing
00:19:34about the cast
00:19:34was how they all committed
00:19:37to the most silly thing
00:19:41as if it was life and death.
00:19:43And that made it so alive
00:19:45and real and relatable.
00:19:48And the two of you
00:19:49had the most
00:19:50spectacular chemistry
00:19:51and I always said that
00:19:52Patty Heaton's
00:19:53the best wife on television.
00:19:54Aww.
00:19:55Well, we're also...
00:19:57We're...
00:20:01I think we're forgetting
00:20:03one little key element
00:20:05that really sold me on you
00:20:06during that first audition.
00:20:09That's how desperate
00:20:10I was to get the job.
00:20:11Yeah.
00:20:11Well, they don't know
00:20:12what you're talking about.
00:20:13I kissed him.
00:20:13Yes.
00:20:14There was a part
00:20:16where it says
00:20:17she kisses her husband
00:20:18and every other actress
00:20:20just kind of mimed it.
00:20:22For some reason,
00:20:23she did it.
00:20:24Nobody else...
00:20:24And when she walked out,
00:20:27I go,
00:20:28that's the one!
00:20:28Patty, do you have
00:20:31a favorite episode?
00:20:33Um, yes.
00:20:34There was the one
00:20:35where we went away
00:20:37for a weekend
00:20:38and we put the suitcase
00:20:40on the landing.
00:20:42We put it there
00:20:42and neither of us
00:20:44would take it up
00:20:45and empty it
00:20:46and we keep waiting
00:20:46for the other person
00:20:47to do it.
00:20:49What are you doing?
00:20:51What?
00:20:53Just packing a soda
00:20:54for the road.
00:20:55Problem?
00:20:55That's how you're
00:20:57getting on the airplane.
00:20:59Yeah.
00:20:59Yeah, I'm traveling
00:21:00light.
00:21:01I'm traveling loose.
00:21:04What are you,
00:21:05a hobo?
00:21:09Why don't you
00:21:10take the suitcase?
00:21:11You know what?
00:21:12I don't need it.
00:21:16Okay, you know what?
00:21:17I'm getting it.
00:21:28What's that supposed
00:21:29to mean?
00:21:30It means
00:21:31I'll get it.
00:21:33I'll be the one
00:21:34who got it.
00:21:36Oh, no, no,
00:21:37no, no,
00:21:39no.
00:21:40I will get it.
00:21:41Let the record show
00:21:42that I got it.
00:21:43You let go of this.
00:21:44You let go of it.
00:21:45You let go of it.
00:21:46You let go of it.
00:21:49Let go.
00:21:50Let go.
00:21:51Let go.
00:21:53No, you don't.
00:21:55No, you don't.
00:21:56I'm done it.
00:21:57No.
00:21:58I'm moving it.
00:22:00I'm the one
00:22:01moving it, everybody.
00:22:02Look at me.
00:22:04Don't let a suitcase
00:22:05filled with cheese
00:22:06be your big fork and spoon.
00:22:14Oh, no.
00:22:16This is all your fault.
00:22:34When did we get those?
00:22:35That's one of my favorite lines
00:22:42ever in the show
00:22:43because that, to me,
00:22:44is marriage,
00:22:45especially a long marriage.
00:22:46Yes.
00:22:47So many people,
00:22:48and this is really,
00:22:50I think,
00:22:51what's not important
00:22:53about comedy,
00:22:54but every month,
00:22:56at least,
00:22:56if not every week,
00:22:57somebody,
00:22:58either on social media
00:23:00or if I run into them
00:23:01and says,
00:23:01your show
00:23:02was the one thing
00:23:04that our family
00:23:05could laugh together
00:23:06when my father was sick.
00:23:07And it was his favorite thing
00:23:08that's been going on
00:23:10for 30 years.
00:23:11And so,
00:23:11you know,
00:23:12it just feels like
00:23:13we're able to do that.
00:23:16That's beautiful.
00:23:17We needed to cast
00:23:20Ray's brother.
00:23:22Should we bring him out soon?
00:23:23Trouble in paradise?
00:23:36Why would you want
00:23:36to hear me complain
00:23:37about Ray?
00:23:41Perhaps we haven't met.
00:23:43I'm Robert Barone.
00:23:45Hey, hey.
00:23:46Hey, Robert.
00:23:48Everybody loves Ray.
00:23:50Surprise,
00:23:51it's an iguana.
00:23:51I need to say something.
00:24:06No wife,
00:24:08no children.
00:24:09Pathetic.
00:24:13Thanks for the kind words.
00:24:17Brad Garrett, everybody.
00:24:21I'll come around.
00:24:32I'll come around.
00:24:33I'll come around.
00:24:38Phillip.
00:24:39Hey.
00:24:40Oh.
00:24:43Oh, boy.
00:24:47Ray, it is so great
00:24:49to meet you.
00:24:54Do you have any memories
00:24:55of coming in
00:24:56and meeting Ray?
00:24:57I remember auditioning
00:24:59when I read
00:25:00who Robert was.
00:25:01I just felt
00:25:02I knew this guy,
00:25:03you know?
00:25:04I was the youngest
00:25:05of three brothers
00:25:06growing up,
00:25:07and they were,
00:25:08you know,
00:25:09much more popular,
00:25:11and they had a lot
00:25:12more going for them,
00:25:13and I kind of felt
00:25:14like the kid
00:25:14that grew up
00:25:15under the sink,
00:25:16you know?
00:25:17So,
00:25:18when I read it,
00:25:19I kind of felt
00:25:19like I knew
00:25:20who Robert was,
00:25:22you know?
00:25:23Yes, Ray?
00:25:24Um,
00:25:25how could you...
00:25:26You have to raise
00:25:26your hand.
00:25:26It's your show.
00:25:30How could you
00:25:31fit under the sink?
00:25:33Well...
00:25:33We would write lines,
00:25:37jokes,
00:25:37and sometimes
00:25:39we didn't need them.
00:25:40Why?
00:25:41Because when we would
00:25:42cut to a face,
00:25:44they already said it
00:25:45with their look,
00:25:46and it was better
00:25:47than anything
00:25:48we could write,
00:25:49and the king of this
00:25:50was Brad.
00:25:52Yes.
00:25:52That's very sweet.
00:25:53Just beautiful.
00:25:54Any, uh,
00:25:54lovely stories you have
00:25:56from your days
00:25:57on the show?
00:25:58Not really.
00:25:59No?
00:26:01Many.
00:26:02You know what I think
00:26:03of a lot
00:26:03is the episode
00:26:04She's the One
00:26:05where the girl
00:26:07I was dating
00:26:08ate the fly.
00:26:09Oh, yes.
00:26:10And when you tried
00:26:12to tell me
00:26:13what you saw
00:26:14in the kitchen,
00:26:15that scene
00:26:16was so great,
00:26:17but there was
00:26:18a moment
00:26:19where you were...
00:26:20Yeah,
00:26:20I almost passed out.
00:26:22Tell me,
00:26:22you were screaming
00:26:23or you had some type of...
00:26:25Well, I saw her
00:26:25eat the fly,
00:26:26and then you come in
00:26:28and you talk to Patty
00:26:29and say,
00:26:29I really think
00:26:30she's the one.
00:26:31And I say,
00:26:32she's not the one.
00:26:32Right?
00:26:33And I tell you
00:26:34she ate the fly,
00:26:35you don't believe me,
00:26:36and I tell the story,
00:26:37and again,
00:26:37all this pent up,
00:26:38and finally I end with,
00:26:39she took the fly,
00:26:40she put it in,
00:26:41and then I scream it,
00:26:42she ate it!
00:26:44And I hyperventilate it,
00:26:46and if you look
00:26:46very closely,
00:26:47you see me go,
00:26:48ooh, ooh,
00:26:49because I almost,
00:26:49I felt like
00:26:50I was going to pass out.
00:26:52Who hyperventilates
00:26:53saying a line?
00:26:54LAUGHTER
00:26:54Oh.
00:27:00Hey, you got him!
00:27:01Yeah, I guess I did.
00:27:03Wow, good hands.
00:27:04All right, um...
00:27:05Oh, it's okay.
00:27:06I got it.
00:27:06Okay, I'll be,
00:27:07I'll put this down.
00:27:08OK, I'll put this down.
00:27:20LAUGHTER
00:27:20LAUGHTER
00:27:20LAUGHTER
00:27:25LAUGHTER

00:27:30that was flying around,
00:27:32Angela killed it,
00:27:34it fell on the table,
00:27:36she put it in a napkin,
00:27:37and then she ate it!
00:27:39LAUGHTER
00:27:40LAUGHTER
00:27:41LAUGHTER
00:27:42LAUGHTER
00:27:46LAUGHTER
00:27:47APPLAUSE

00:27:57Boy, there's so many.
00:27:58I, I, I really loved Lucky Suit.
00:28:02Yes.
00:28:02Where, where Robert, uh,
00:28:04has an interview to work with the FBI.
00:28:07So, as I was saying...
00:28:08Is this a joke?
00:28:11Excuse me?
00:28:12Dear FBI agent Garfield,
00:28:14I'm writing to ask for your understanding
00:28:16you have an interview this morning
00:28:18with my son, Robert Barone.
00:28:20LAUGHTER
00:28:21Oh, Robbie, you scared me!
00:28:42LAUGHTER
00:28:43How did your interview go?
00:28:49Come here, let me tell you about it.
00:28:53LAUGHTER
00:28:54Didn't it go well?
00:28:57Oh, it was going okay.
00:28:59And then Agent Garfield read me a letter
00:29:01about Crazy Robert and his Lucky Suit.
00:29:03LAUGHTER
00:29:04Mum, what did you do?
00:29:07She faxed the FBI a letter
00:29:08about how she ruined my Lucky Suit.
00:29:10I wasn't sure it went through.
00:29:12It's the first time I ever used a fax machine.
00:29:14LAUGHTER
00:29:14Marie, why don't you go into the kitchen
00:29:18and, Robert, how about you just stay here
00:29:20and maybe blink a few times?
00:29:21LAUGHTER
00:29:22APPLAUSE
00:29:23For Mother's Day.
00:29:30This is a good story.
00:29:32After one of my shows,
00:29:33this guy came up to me after the show
00:29:36and it was really amazing.
00:29:39He was a veteran
00:29:41and I remember that Phil, you and Ray
00:29:46would always send the DVDs to our troops
00:29:50when the show was on the air
00:29:52and he gave me his retirement challenge coin
00:29:56and he served from 1999 to 2020
00:30:03and he said,
00:30:05you guys really helped
00:30:06when we needed the humour
00:30:07more than anything
00:30:09and it really kept us buoyant.
00:30:12Wow.
00:30:13In what we were going through every day.
00:30:15And...
00:30:16Yeah.
00:30:19Yeah.
00:30:21It's an honour to be on this bus
00:30:23and thanks for letting me on
00:30:24even though I was a giant.
00:30:25LAUGHTER
00:30:26There's more people coming out.
00:30:29We'll be right back, I guess.
00:30:30Yeah.
00:30:31APPLAUSE
00:30:32We are in for you.
00:30:37Bye!
00:30:38Oh, what?
00:30:40LAUGHTER
00:30:41APPLAUSE
00:30:42APPLAUSE
00:30:43This is something, huh?
00:30:50Yeah, something.
00:30:53Something.
00:30:54LAUGHTER
00:30:55LAUGHTER
00:30:56LAUGHTER
00:30:58And you're right.
00:31:28And it still has the dent from where I picked Patty up and threw her into the thing.
00:31:32Very good.
00:31:34So there was someone else in that scene that I knew for a long time before we did the show.
00:31:40I saw her first in a play, and I thought she was really funny.
00:31:44And then I married that girl.
00:31:46I might not be the best person to help.
00:31:48I've spent the last ten years looking for an engagement ring.
00:31:52Oh, Robert, this is my friend Amy.
00:31:53We used to work at the PR firm together.
00:31:55Hi.
00:31:56Hi, Ray.
00:31:56Here we go.
00:31:57Oh, look, this one looks like a heart.
00:32:00Get off your crying and get off your pity pot, Nancy.
00:32:05God, I keep forgetting what a freak show this family is until somebody new comes in and looks at us like that.
00:32:16Wait.
00:32:22Did your mother come over and make things worse as usual?
00:32:25here's Monica.
00:32:26Monica.
00:32:31Here's Monica.
00:32:34Monica.
00:32:35Yes, she's mom.
00:32:36Yeah.
00:32:36Yeah.
00:32:39Yeah.
00:32:39Wow!
00:32:40I'll be a hug.
00:32:40I'll be a hug.
00:32:42Wow!
00:32:44I'll do a hug at first.
00:32:46No, the husband.
00:32:54Hello, my darling.
00:32:56My darling.
00:32:58Oh, my God, relax.
00:33:00Relax!
00:33:02Hi, Monica. Hi!
00:33:04You can tell Monica brought a slightly different
00:33:06energy to the family, right?
00:33:08You know, just being here is so
00:33:10incredible, right? I can't believe
00:33:12how everyone did the set,
00:33:14like, everybody backstage,
00:33:16and you guys being here, it's so
00:33:18overwhelming! It's unbelievable!
00:33:20Talk about,
00:33:22what about, because first you were recurring,
00:33:24right? Yes. Well, first I didn't
00:33:26even know I'd be recurring. Can I tell you a little
00:33:28something? Yes. I was pregnant
00:33:30with our daughter, Lily, and I didn't
00:33:32know it. I found out
00:33:34after, so that first... Wait.
00:33:36I didn't know that! What?
00:33:38And flash forward, too, she just got
00:33:40married! And she just got married, Liz!
00:33:42Oh, Lily, Lily got married, yeah.
00:33:46We had a lot of babies on this show.
00:33:48A lot of babies. The moral is,
00:33:50this show made us horny.
00:33:52We were happy!
00:33:56When did you officially
00:33:58know you were a regular?
00:34:00It just started building and building and building.
00:34:02And the Robert and Amy,
00:34:04it really was, you know,
00:34:06I've had only a couple comedy partners
00:34:08in my life, but this one,
00:34:10and that writing to this
00:34:12couple was so perfect, wasn't it?
00:34:14It was great. It was so fun,
00:34:16and it was, uh,
00:34:18to then be with, like, one of the greatest
00:34:20comic teams of all time,
00:34:22Ray and Debra, that's
00:34:24you guys! Yeah, you
00:34:26were brilliant! So, it was
00:34:28really lucky. Do you have a favorite episode?
00:34:30Oh, yeah. It's all of them you mentioned.
00:34:32There's so many favorite episodes.
00:34:34The one that captures my heart is
00:34:36because my dear, beloved Georgia,
00:34:38who I was very close with,
00:34:40the Georgia angle, who played my mom,
00:34:42and it's Pat's Secret.
00:34:44Oh, hi.
00:34:46Is everything
00:34:48all right?
00:34:50What, can't sleep?
00:34:52Yeah, me neither.
00:34:54Mind if I bum a ciggy?
00:35:08Robert was smoking.
00:35:10I wasn't. I wasn't!
00:35:12Smell him. Come here.
00:35:14Come here.
00:35:16Oh, my God!
00:35:18Yeah!
00:35:20Do you know what he's been doing?
00:35:22Smell him.
00:35:26It wasn't lying.
00:35:28It was more like she was just letting off steam
00:35:30so you don't let it out on the person you love.
00:35:32You know?
00:35:34Like Ray.
00:35:36He has to drive around the block a few times
00:35:38every night listening to the radio
00:35:40before he goes home to face Deborah.
00:35:54Are you crazy?
00:36:00When I'm angry at my cat, Miss Puss,
00:36:02sometimes I'll sneak up behind her
00:36:04and bark like a dog.
00:36:06I like to blow up fireworks.
00:36:16Pat!
00:36:20I thought since it wasn't a secret anymore.
00:36:22She was just in heaven,
00:36:36and she always talked to everyone
00:36:40about the writing on this show,
00:36:42working with Phil,
00:36:44for years and years and years after.
00:36:46Beautiful.
00:36:47You know what?
00:36:48We're so lucky
00:36:49to work with these comedy legends
00:36:51that we idolized.
00:36:52You know?
00:36:53We stand on the shoulders
00:36:54of the great people that came before us.
00:36:56Obviously, people have passed,
00:36:58and we've seen a lot of clips
00:37:00of our mom and dad on the show.
00:37:02But when we come back,
00:37:03we'll talk about them.
00:37:04We'll talk about them.
00:37:25So, let's talk about the parents.
00:37:28For you and me, it's very personal,
00:37:30because they were so based on our parents.
00:37:33Yeah.
00:37:34The mother was more you.
00:37:35I mean, the mother was definitely more you.
00:37:37And the dad was more you, maybe?
00:37:38I used to say,
00:37:39everything you saw Peter do,
00:37:40my father probably did in real life
00:37:43without pants on.
00:37:44Yes.
00:37:45Yes.
00:37:46Yes.
00:37:47But I remember just talking about Peter
00:37:49during the pilot episode.
00:37:51So, now, I'm a young guy
00:37:52who just got fired from news radio,
00:37:55and here I am again attempting a show,
00:37:58and I'm nervous,
00:37:59and Peter is the great Peter Boyle,
00:38:01this iconic movie guy.
00:38:03And he's an imposing figure.
00:38:05I didn't know then how sweet he really was.
00:38:07And I hadn't really had a conversation with Peter.
00:38:08And our paths were crossing,
00:38:09and I swear to God,
00:38:10it must have been right here.
00:38:11And he just stops me,
00:38:12and I don't, we,
00:38:13I haven't said anything to him.
00:38:14He just stops me,
00:38:15and I guess he could tell.
00:38:16He could tell that I was a little nervous,
00:38:18and he just looks and he goes,
00:38:20I remember the words,
00:38:21he just goes,
00:38:22it's just like water.
00:38:23Just let it flow.
00:38:25And I guess he could tell.
00:38:26He could tell that I was a little nervous,
00:38:28and he just looks and he goes,
00:38:29I remember the words,
00:38:30he just goes,
00:38:31it's just like water.
00:38:33water.
00:38:34Just let it flow.
00:38:35And he,
00:38:36and then he leaves.
00:38:37And at that time,
00:38:38I'm like,
00:38:39what does that mean?
00:38:42And,
00:38:43and even though,
00:38:44as an actor,
00:38:45I didn't know what,
00:38:46exactly what that meant,
00:38:47but I do now.
00:38:48Just the gesture,
00:38:50the gesture of him reaching out to me.
00:38:52It's everything.
00:38:53Yeah.
00:38:54It's everything.
00:38:55Yeah.
00:38:56Beautiful.
00:38:57Anyway, go ahead.
00:38:58Talk about doors.
00:38:59We saw a hundred ladies for the part.
00:39:04They all read with that fruit of the month scene.
00:39:07No one came close to Doris Roberts.
00:39:10No one.
00:39:11She was what was in my head and in my life.
00:39:16And,
00:39:17and was,
00:39:18was so beyond even my,
00:39:21my real mother used to say,
00:39:23you know,
00:39:24it is a little exaggerated,
00:39:25but you never saw that with Doris because she was always spot on.
00:39:33She was always a hundred percent believable.
00:39:36Yeah.
00:39:37Peter too.
00:39:38Again,
00:39:39I keep reiterating the same thing.
00:39:40We could be the best writers in the world.
00:39:42It wouldn't matter if we didn't have these people and Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts.
00:39:51Let me show you something.
00:39:52Let me show you something.
00:40:00Marie.
00:40:01Oh,
00:40:02well,
00:40:03okay.
00:40:04Oh Frank,
00:40:05this is wonderful.
00:40:07You dumb bastard.
00:40:09What?
00:40:12Write it out.
00:40:14You put a stop to this now.
00:40:16All right,
00:40:17dad.
00:40:18Let me ask you.
00:40:19She's in a bad mood.
00:40:20What?
00:40:21Two,
00:40:22three days tops.
00:40:23Before you know it,
00:40:24what used to be a bad mood now takes over and becomes her only mood.
00:40:31And then,
00:40:32well,
00:40:33then you become like me.
00:40:34When not a day goes by that I don't wish.
00:40:39There was a comet screaming towards Earth to bring me sweet relief.
00:40:54That's going to need another coat.
00:40:56Did you say that you like Amy more than Deborah?
00:41:03I am not saying that I like Amy more than Deborah.
00:41:10I know.
00:41:11I know you're not saying it now.
00:41:15But did you say it ever?
00:41:17Ever.
00:41:23Well,
00:41:24what if I told you that we have a tape of you saying it, Mom?
00:41:34Give me the tape.
00:41:37What we do in our bedroom is our own business.
00:41:39And I prefer not to be known as the whore of Lenbrook.
00:41:47We can move from Lenbrook.
00:41:54Can't you ever just be quiet?
00:41:56Don't you tell me to be quiet.
00:41:58I have a mind of my own, you know.
00:42:00I can contribute.
00:42:01I'm not just some trophy wife.
00:42:14You're a trophy wife?
00:42:17What contest in hell did I win?
00:42:23You still can't think of anything nice to say about me?
00:42:32How about I sleep on it?
00:42:37It's all jokes.
00:42:47Frank, what are you doing?
00:42:51No, no, no.
00:42:52I need that.
00:42:53Frank.
00:42:54I like you better without the crap on your face.
00:43:09I left my heart in San Francisco.
00:43:28Thank you, ladies and gentlemen.
00:43:29My wife thinks I'm in the bathroom.
00:43:30Thank you, gentlemen.
00:43:31My wife thinks I'm in the bathroom.
00:43:32I think we all have special memories of each one of them, you know.
00:43:49Doris could drink everybody under the table.
00:43:50Champagne.
00:43:51That was her choice.
00:43:52Pretty good.
00:43:53Never stop working, right?
00:43:54Never stop working on hiatuses.
00:43:55Yeah.
00:43:56Always working.
00:43:57Taking acting classes.
00:43:58And directing plays.
00:43:5990, yeah.
00:44:00And so she was...
00:44:01And directing plays.
00:44:0290, yeah.
00:44:03Yes.
00:44:04And Peter was pretty much the opposite of that guy.
00:44:06He was a...
00:44:08kind of a renaissance man.
00:44:09Never stopped working on hiatuses, always working.
00:44:12Taking acting classes.
00:44:14And directing plays.
00:44:1690.
00:44:16Yes.
00:44:17And Peter was pretty much the opposite of that guy.
00:44:21He was kind of a renaissance man.
00:44:26Yes, he wasn't really like that character.
00:44:28Two things about him you may not know.
00:44:30He studied to be a monk.
00:44:33Yes?
00:44:33I asked him, what made you give it up?
00:44:35He said there weren't enough girls there.
00:44:36And best man at his wedding was John Lennon.
00:44:43Yeah.
00:44:44How about that?
00:44:46As a matter of fact, the girl he married is here tonight.
00:44:50Lorraine Boyle is sitting right up there.
00:44:52Lorraine Boyle.
00:44:54Yay.
00:44:58Yeah.
00:45:00Well, you know, it's funny.
00:45:03I remember when Peter Boyle was cast and we were, like, so excited because we're going
00:45:09to be able to play every week with this legend.
00:45:13And Ray went, you know, I think it's so fitting that the guy who's playing your dad was young
00:45:19Frankenstein.
00:45:22Yeah.
00:45:23Yeah.
00:45:23Well, they became our parents in more ways than one on the show.
00:45:29Yes.
00:45:30To Doris and Peter.
00:45:31Yes.
00:45:32Yay.
00:45:32Cheers.
00:45:33Yes.
00:45:34Cheers.
00:45:34Cheers.
00:45:34Cheers.
00:45:35Cheers.
00:45:36I love you.
00:45:39I love you.
00:45:43I love you.
00:45:45Hey.
00:45:56Good?
00:45:57Yeah.
00:45:58Yeah, good.
00:46:01Even better the second time now that my tongue's not scared.
00:46:06Everything happened over food.
00:46:07There was so much food on the show.
00:46:08And it just sort of taught you that, like, lessons are learned and arguments are made when
00:46:15you're sitting down to eat.
00:46:17You learn a lot about each other.
00:46:18You should ask Debra how she makes this.
00:46:24I should ask Debra.
00:46:27I should ask Debra.
00:46:30Give me that.
00:46:38Food is, you know, it's family.
00:46:46Gathering around the table, just like love.
00:46:49You better not have started that cake.
00:46:52That cake is for all of us.
00:46:54I'm coming over.
00:46:58Food is love, because food is bringing people together.
00:47:01And so, yeah, we hit it all the time.
00:47:04A man needs chicken.
00:47:08Food is everything, and that's because that's Phil's obsession.
00:47:11For Phil, food was the most important thing, and it's the great connector.
00:47:15We actually had a lot to eat on the plane.
00:47:18Adesso mangiate.
00:47:21So, off we go to Italy.
00:47:23And, of course, the character of Ray Barone is miserable.
00:47:26Ray, this is the Spanish steps.
00:47:28Where's the Spanish elevator?
00:47:31But I remember this one moment.
00:47:33Pizza.
00:47:34And that piece of pizza, when he put it in his mouth.
00:47:40Wow.
00:47:41It's okay.
00:47:42Ray has this epiphany about everything.
00:47:45This is like the best pizza I ever had, man.
00:47:47He realizes the great thing, which is his family, the culture, the people.
00:47:53All those things are actually truly beautiful, and he's been missing them the whole episode.
00:47:57Look, we're in the kitchen.
00:48:04Food was a very important part of the show.
00:48:07I think Marie held sway over the entire family because she was a great cook, and who wasn't?
00:48:17But we should talk about our children.
00:48:20Daddy, daddy!
00:48:22Catch me!
00:48:22Yeah, everybody say cavities.
00:48:30Cavities!
00:48:32Mommy, that man's smoking.
00:48:35Narc.
00:48:36You look like you're doing pretty good here.
00:48:38You don't need my help, do you?
00:48:39Yes, I do.
00:48:41All right, don't worry.
00:48:41Daddy's here to help you.
00:48:44You can't make me.
00:48:46Look, I'm your father.
00:48:46You have to do what I say.
00:48:47Why?
00:48:48Why?
00:48:50Why?
00:48:51Why?
00:48:51Come on, guys, we're not snorkeling.
00:48:55We're eating.
00:48:56It's mine!
00:48:57It's mine!
00:48:59It's mine!
00:49:01We were just, uh...
00:49:04Oh, you know what?
00:49:10Madeline and Sullivan Sweetin, are you here?
00:49:13Wow.
00:49:28Everybody's grown up.
00:49:30They...
00:49:31They...
00:49:31You're in the blink of an eye.
00:49:32Your kids grow up.
00:49:34Hi, you guys.
00:49:35Hi.
00:49:36So emotional.
00:49:38I really were.
00:49:40I know.
00:49:40Do you want to sit on my lap?
00:49:44What was it like to grow up here with us, with us maniacs?
00:49:48I mean, I don't know.
00:49:48It just felt like what we were supposed to do.
00:49:51I don't think we understood, right, how impactful the show was or how impactful what we were doing was.
00:49:58So, yeah, I would get upset that, you know, I couldn't be in the school play.
00:50:03Yeah, but looking back, you know, I wouldn't change anything about it.
00:50:06That's so great to hear.
00:50:07It's so good to see you guys.
00:50:09It really is.
00:50:10Tell us what you're doing now.
00:50:11I just had a baby.
00:50:12Yeah!
00:50:13I brought them here with me today.
00:50:22My husband are in the back.
00:50:23Oh, great.
00:50:24They're excited to meet you.
00:50:25You guys were always in a good mood.
00:50:30Because we had lots of candy.
00:50:32But you were also, I want to say, fantastic.
00:50:35We were on set with some of the most amazing comedic actors in the world.
00:50:41So it was, you know, we were learning from everybody how to do it.
00:50:45And that's the only reason that we were, you know, any good at it, I think.
00:50:48Yeah, and I definitely feel like I carried that experience through my whole life.
00:50:52You know, I try to bring that kind of comedy with me wherever I go.
00:50:56Do you have a favorite episode?
00:50:58You know, it's funny.
00:50:59I'm not in my favorite episode.
00:51:01Now as an adult, as I've been watching it back,
00:51:04I've found there's so many more adult things that I didn't realize when I was a kid.
00:51:09And my favorite episode is Marie's statue.
00:51:13Oh!
00:51:14I give you this.
00:51:20Isn't it a bit too ladylike?
00:51:31Great.
00:51:32See?
00:51:33Oh, now I do.
00:51:35It looks like something, though.
00:51:36What does it look like?
00:51:40You can get close.
00:51:41You can even touch it.
00:51:42I'm fine.
00:51:46I gotta tell you, I don't know what the hell this is.
00:51:50But I love it.
00:51:53Hello.
00:51:54Raymond Barone?
00:51:55Mm-hmm.
00:51:55I'm sister Anne.
00:51:57I'm sister Anne.
00:51:57This is sister Beth.
00:51:58We're here to pick up the sculpture.
00:52:04Forgive me, but is that not a sculptor of...
00:52:09What?
00:52:10Oh my God, I'm a lesbian.
00:52:21Oh, that's right.
00:52:26But what happened to the sculpture?
00:52:28I think it was in Doris's backyard.
00:52:30Oh, yeah.
00:52:32I think her grandkids used it as a slide.
00:52:40That's wrong.
00:52:42Sullivan, you've got one.
00:52:44Oh, I've got plenty of good memories, you know, playing tag in the bleachers and, you know,
00:52:50the prop room.
00:52:51But I think I'm a sucker for a happy ending.
00:52:53And the final scene with everybody gathered around the table has got to be my favorite memory.
00:52:57Like we are now.
00:52:58Hey, what do you got there, French toast?
00:53:01No, no, no, no, don't worry.
00:53:02I'll make something.
00:53:03Yay!
00:53:04All right, sit down.
00:53:05All right, Uncle Robert, it's only big, and if you don't want to get eaten, move out of the way.
00:53:08Thank you, darling.
00:53:09This isn't something.
00:53:10What do we have here?
00:53:11Here.
00:53:12Have some food in the meantime.
00:53:14Ah.
00:53:15Something's great.
00:53:16Something's great.
00:53:16Right.
00:53:17It's getting a little too crowded in here.
00:53:19Yeah, it is.
00:53:20You know what?
00:53:21We need a bigger table.
00:53:23Yes.
00:53:24All right.
00:53:24Who would like some chocolate chip pancakes?
00:53:27Ah.
00:53:28The philosophy of we need a bigger table is everything to me.
00:53:40You know, the family is a microcosm of your families, we hope, and of wherever you live,
00:53:48and our country and the world.
00:53:50We need a bigger table.
00:53:52So that's the idea.
00:53:53That's why I wanted it to be the last thing.
00:53:55Can we mention also...
00:54:03Sawyer, yes.
00:54:05So Sawyer, of course, is no longer with us, and we miss him.
00:54:08And he, just like you were, just this bright energy, light.
00:54:13None of us really expected what happened.
00:54:15But, you know, I try to think about the good moments, and oftentimes that's here on the set.
00:54:23I just think it's so important, any conversation that we're having about Sawyer.
00:54:26We're very passionate in our family about suicide prevention.
00:54:30It is the second leading cause of death between the ages of 18 to 25.
00:54:35But 90% of people who seek treatment are cured.
00:54:39And so many of the messages that we get are people saying,
00:54:43I'm so grateful to have heard about your brother.
00:54:45He saved my life.
00:54:47Is there an organization that you work with on behalf of Sawyer where people could reach out to you?
00:54:53We work with the National Suicide Prevention Hotline.
00:54:57That's our main place.
00:54:59Okay.
00:54:59Yeah.
00:54:59But, you know, people can grab a Sawyer t-shirt.
00:55:03We do t-shirts every year, and all of the proceeds go there.
00:55:07Great.
00:55:07Yeah.
00:55:08Beautiful.
00:55:18You're not getting off.
00:55:20Don't push me.
00:55:22Ah!
00:55:22I almost didn't know how lucky I was working with amazing actors.
00:55:39That allowed you then to take these big swings with physical comedy.
00:55:44And then the actors, just so gifted.
00:55:49Robert, let me tell you what they did, okay?
00:55:51Oh, I am tired, sweetness.
00:56:04Oh, yeah.
00:56:05Oh, baby.
00:56:08Does that feel good?
00:56:09If Debra has to give him permission to make more decisions, and then it has to spectacularly end badly.
00:56:34Debra's going all nutty on me over here, but what else is new?
00:56:37That means Ray's got to, I don't know, like, set the kitchen off fire.
00:56:40The laugh inside the studio was like nothing I ever heard.
00:56:55Hey, what's going on?
00:56:56Hey, what's going on?
00:56:57Fire!
00:56:58Fire!
00:56:59Fire!
00:57:00There's a fire!
00:57:01Famous one was Patty dealing with that Thanksgiving turkey, and that was all her.
00:57:06Huh?
00:57:07Yeah.
00:57:08Debra is wrestling with a turkey that keeps falling, and you can write that on the page.
00:57:13It just looks like an action line.
00:57:16And then when Patty Heaton does it, you look at the writers around you and go, look how good
00:57:23we are.
00:57:34Okay.
00:57:35Yes, ma'am.
00:57:36Hi.
00:57:37My question for you is, do you guys have a favorite line, and if so, can you reenact it
00:57:40for us now?
00:57:42Favorite line.
00:57:43One favorite line.
00:57:45I have one.
00:57:46Yes.
00:57:47What did you do?
00:57:53Very well done.
00:57:54I...
00:57:55I have a favorite line.
00:57:56It wasn't...
00:57:57I didn't say it, but it was said to me, and it was from nobody on here.
00:58:11It was from a day character who was in a hospital bed, and I said something to her, and she looked
00:58:17at me and went, you tricky, tricky white boy.
00:58:24You want to get better, you got to take your pills.
00:58:30Oh, you tricky, tricky white boy.
00:58:35What has happened to you in real life since the show's ended that you thought to yourself,
00:58:44that would make a really great episode.
00:58:47Yeah.
00:58:48Our friend Lou Schneider, who's one of the great writers on the show, he tells a story
00:58:52about how he was on vacation with the family, and he dropped his keys down the elevator shaft,
00:59:00right in the crack of the elevator door, and he was freaking out because it's the car keys,
00:59:06the house keys, everything, and he was really going nuts, and his wife said, this is great.
00:59:12Maybe you could use it on the show, you know?
00:59:15We already did the episode where Ray loses his ring in the thing.
00:59:21So this is not good for the show.
00:59:24This is just something that happened.
00:59:30Hey, guys, my question is actually for Brad Garrett.
00:59:33When Judy took you to the dance club, you have this amazing, iconic dance.
00:59:37I wanted to ask if we can recreate it right now and boogie down a little.
00:59:42Oh, you win him?
00:59:44What?
00:59:46You're in for it?
00:59:47Come on down.
00:59:48All right, all right.
01:00:05All right.
01:00:06All right, all right.
01:00:08I love you guys.
01:00:09Go Robert!
01:00:10Go Robert!
01:00:11Go Robert!
01:00:12Go Robert!
01:00:13Go Robert!
01:00:14Go Robert!
01:00:15Go Robert!
01:00:16Whoop!
01:00:17Whoop!
01:00:18Everybody wins!
01:00:20That is good.
01:00:30When Raymond left for Hollywood, me and my friend
01:00:38My brother Bobby decided to put a little note in his suitcase because we were going to miss him, you know.
01:00:44And I didn't hear anything, and neither did my brother Robert, for nine years.
01:00:49I didn't know if he read it.
01:00:51And then the final show comes, and it was very, very dramatic and, you know, emotional.
01:00:59And in his speech, he says, I want to read something.
01:01:05This is a little note that my brother, both my brothers gave me when I was leaving New York.
01:01:13I'm saying, oh my God, you saved it?
01:01:15They snuck this into my luggage.
01:01:19What I wrote to him was, I hope you remember this verse, what does it profit a man?
01:01:26It begins the whole world, but loses his soul.
01:01:30He had tears in his eyes, and he goes, I hope I did that, God.
01:01:36And it was very moving, and I think he did.
01:01:39I think God would be very happy with him.
01:01:41Thank you so much for being with us tonight.
01:01:49We're so thrilled to be with you.
01:01:51We owe everything to you guys.
01:01:53You know, when we started, it was a show about a family, four families, and after a little while, it was being made by a family.
01:02:00What you don't see are all the people that really made the show with us, some of whom we haven't seen since we went off the air.
01:02:10So if we could, let's bring most of them out.
01:02:14I think I got the joke.
01:02:25I think I got the joke.
01:02:29I think I got the joke.
01:02:39Now, one little more thing we want to share with the audience.
01:02:51It's kind of like a gag reel, so we want to share that with you and with everybody who made the show.
01:02:58What?
01:03:00What's wrong?
01:03:01What happened?
01:03:03You kicked me.
01:03:06I did?
01:03:07Oh, right in the garden of good and evil.
01:03:12Right in Geppetto's workshop.
01:03:15Right in Granny's apples.
01:03:17Right in the Hard Rock Cafe.
01:03:21You know where I had to go for this suit?
01:03:23Wherever it was, I'll bet it was dark.
01:03:25I'm just a simple man who tried to make a difference.
01:03:42I still put my pants on one leg at a time.
01:03:46Yeah, but you should stop when they reach your nipples.
01:03:48You know where I had to go for this suit?
01:04:01A little shop of horrors.
01:04:05Okay.
01:04:08Come on, man.
01:04:11Now, all that remains is the issue of if we should be granted guardianship in the event that both of you die at the same time.
01:04:18Whoa, slow down.
01:04:19We're still trying to have an orgasm at the same time.
01:04:20You know where I had to go for this suit?
01:04:36Goldens?
01:04:39That's right.
01:04:40Hey, Marie, I knew you named them, but I didn't know you fed them.
01:04:53It's like I've entered a world where ladies want Ray.
01:04:57Ray Bird.
01:04:57Ray Bird.
01:04:58Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:04:59Ray Bird.
01:04:59Ray Bird.
01:05:00You know what?
01:05:01With your penis and my money, we're unstoppable.
01:05:03We're unstoppable.
01:05:10You better have a lot of money.
01:05:14To be honest, Deborah, it's not a style I'd ever wear.
01:05:20Nice try, though.
01:05:23Put it on.
01:05:32Thank you, everybody.
01:05:35You want to say goodbye?
01:05:35I do.
01:05:36I want to say, I want to say to, to all of you and to all of you, I used to say this to Ray all the time, thanks for the good life.
01:05:49Yeah.
01:05:50And we wish the same to all of you.
01:05:52Thank you, everybody.
01:05:55Thank you, everybody.
01:05:55Thank you, everybody.
01:06:04Yay!
01:06:06Bye, everybody, bye.
01:06:08Bye.
01:06:08Bye.
01:06:08Bye.
01:06:09Goodbye.
01:06:10Bye.
01:06:23Bye.
01:06:33Bye.
01:06:34Bye.
01:06:35Bye.
01:06:35Bye.
01:06:35Bye.
