00:00All the single ladies, all the single ladies, all the single ladies, now put your hands up.
00:05Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the morning show musical guests who are doing the absolute most at 8 a.m.
00:12Put your hands up, put your hands up, put your hands up.
00:18Number 10, Britney Spears, Good Morning America.
00:21You're going to sing for us?
00:22Yes, I'm going to sing for you guys.
00:23The new song being?
00:24From the Bottom of My Broken Heart.
00:26From the Bottom of My Broken Heart.
00:27All right, Britney Spears, here she is, folks.
00:30Stopping by the studio to promote her smash hit debut album, Britney Spears performed two songs for the Good Morning America audience in 2000.
00:37The first, the underrated ballad from the Bottom of My Broken Heart, is a great showcase of her vocal ability.
00:43From the Bottom of My Broken Heart.
00:49But once she launches into Baby One More Time, she and her backup dancers turn it out.
00:54Not only is it too early to serve this hard, but the tiny studio stage is barely big enough to contain Britney and her band.
01:01She and the dancers are using every inch of that thing.
01:04And do me a sign.
01:08Hit me, baby, one more time.
01:11Number 9, Usher, Good Morning America.
01:14Yeah!
01:14Just when we needed him most, he showed up and showed out.
01:23Usher participated in Good Morning America's summer concert series, and he reminded us why he has one of the best voices in the game.
01:30But this was a very different presentation for the series.
01:33It was 2020, and all the concerts had to be done virtually.
01:36You got it, you got it bad, when you're on the phone, hang up and you call right back.
01:44Cycling through some of his biggest hits, the You Got It Bad singer performed in an isolated studio without a band,
01:50and with some incredibly innovative and socially distanced stagecraft.
01:54And he did much of it acapella.
01:56Sir, this is not only early in the morning, it's a pandemic.
01:59Without you, without you...
02:08Number 8, Britney Spears, Today.
02:10That didn't end me, I made you believe, we're more than just friends.
02:18In 2000, the Princess of Pop returned to the Today Show stage to present several new tracks from her second album, Oops, I Did It Again.
02:25Not only did she tear through the title track with an entire ensemble of dancers,
02:30she even brought back her first single, Baby One More Time.
02:41Spears may not be at her most vocally pristine here,
02:45but there's not a moment of this performance when she's not totally committed to the choreography.
02:50Britney's giving the most extra fitness instructor at your local gym here.
02:53She's really excited just to be there.
02:56And they said she's so lucky, she's a star.
03:01Number 7, Mariah Carey, Good Morning America.
03:04We Belong Together is one of the hardest songs in this legendary divas catalog.
03:09The climax alone is a huge ask for any singer.
03:12Recorded in this fierce clip from a 2013 Good Morning America concert,
03:17Mariah Carey looks visibly upset as she delivers an absolute powerhouse performance.
03:21You are on my mind, Bobby Womack's on the radio,
03:25saying to me if you think you're lonely now.
03:29But throughout, she almost looks irritated to be there.
03:32The comment section has its theories.
03:34The consensus seems to be that Carey was expecting to lip-sync against a playback track
03:39that just never started playing.
03:40There's even a brief pause before the climax starts
03:50where it seems like she has to catch up with the track.
03:53Is someone getting fired?
03:55Can I get a gentleman to help me out?
03:57Number 6, Lady Gaga, Good Morning America.
04:00If anyone's gonna bring a full-on production to the morning show stage,
04:04it is the pop goddess behind Bad Romance.
04:06She didn't let the early hour stop her from bringing the drama.
04:16In this 2011 performance, she ziplined over the audience
04:20before landing on the stage and launching into the Bad Romance choreography.
04:23Though only a half hour, the entire set was a high-energy, big-budget affair
04:34that even included a costume and wig change or two.
04:37There is nothing low-key about Gaga, and there never has been.
04:41And the best part is that the crowd is as ready to party as she is.
04:45Number 5, Prince, Good Morning America.
04:56This 2006 TV appearance was a rare treat.
04:59Prince was famously hesitant to do TV and rarely gave interviews,
05:03but he and his band rocked Bryant Park.
05:05Performing three songs, Prince shreds on the guitar
05:15and often hands the spotlight to his protege,
05:17singer Tamar Davis and drummer Sheila E.
05:20Hilariously, he doesn't even stop to talk to the hosts when they come on stage.
05:24He just launches right into his last song.
05:26Back here live at Bryant Park.
05:29This doesn't feel like a performance in the middle of a morning show.
05:38It feels like a rock concert bookended by a morning news show.
05:45Number 4, Beyonce, Today.
05:48It's hard to imagine when Beyonce wasn't on top of the world in the last two decades,
05:52but this live performance on Today is absolutely supernatural.
05:59The way she is working this crowd,
06:05you would think it wasn't freezing,
06:07but it absolutely is.
06:08The temperature display is in the low 30s,
06:11but this performance is anything but cold.
06:16In a skin-tight catsuit,
06:22Beyonce tears through a medley of some of her biggest hits.
06:25Singing in the cold is difficult,
06:26and you can tell that her mic is on.
06:28She even recreates every beat of that iconic single ladies' dance.
06:40Number 3, Katy Perry, Today.
06:42Bubbly pop with an infectious beat
06:44might not be everyone's idea of wake-up music.
06:47Katy Perry must be a morning person.
06:49Performing California Girls,
06:58she dances through a cotton candy wonderland
07:00in the middle of Rockefeller Plaza,
07:02surrounded by huge lollipops and life-size gummy bears.
07:05I've been for the girls,
07:07we're unforgettable.
07:09Daisy Dukes bikinis on top.
07:12It's peppy, fun, and weirdly surreal for a morning show.
07:16Perry's at her most dance-heavy and effervescent here.
07:19Adding to the whimsy are the shots
07:20that sometimes linger a little too long
07:22on audience members wearing hot pink wigs and frozen smiles.
07:26If the music doesn't wake you up,
07:27that image just might.
07:32Number 2, Lady Gaga, Good Morning America.
07:35And now it's time for the audience participation portion of the morning.
07:39Most artists show up,
07:41have a band,
07:41some dancers,
07:42and just sing their latest hits.
07:43That is not how Lady Gaga rolls.
07:46She returned to Good Morning America
07:48to promote her new single,
07:49Applause.
07:51The highly conceptual staging
07:57pays tribute to The Wizard of Oz.
07:59Audience members closest to the Yellow Brick Road stage
08:02are dressed as poppies
08:03from the infamous poppy field scene.
08:04Give me the little love
08:06The whole thing is downright hallucinogenic.
08:14On top of that,
08:15her wide-eyed stare at the camera
08:16for many parts of the song
08:17is effectively creepy.
08:19Let me break the love
08:21Just be the lady's love

08:44Anyone could cover
08:45the seminal rock anthem
08:46Barracuda by heart,
08:47but Fergie wanted to add
08:49a little something
08:49to her 2008 Today performance.
08:51A little something
08:52that only she would think to do.
08:54This truly is a feast for the senses.
09:06You have the infamous cartwheels themselves,
09:08which are impressive.
09:09You have the sound of her voice faltering
09:11as she tries to keep singing
09:12through the flip.
09:18But between the flips,
09:20the moaning and writhing on the stage,
09:22and the interesting ad-libs,
09:23we will never forget it.
09:25Is it too much?
09:26Absolutely.
09:27Is it a little embarrassing?
09:28Sure.
09:29Is it brilliant?
09:31100%.
09:31Do you know where you are?
09:35You're in the jungle, baby!
