00:46much great lineup tonight including the star of the new tarantino film the hateful eight
00:50where all the characters are trapped together during a snowstorm yeah you can tell it's a
00:56tarantino movie because of the snowman outside i have to say though my favorite tarantino film
01:03has to be inglorious bastards now yeah i know look there the word bastards has been spelt wrongly
01:10mind you that can happen with swear words i mean look how they spelled the word twat here
01:15yeah
01:23later with a music and chat from sensational singer-songwriter see ya everybody

02:36welcome all hello everybody hello thanks for being here now before i do another thing uh i should
02:43i should apologize if you tuned in to see uh quench tarantino himself he can't make it but hey
02:48we've got the star of the movie kurt russell ladies and gentlemen yeah yeah better better
02:54why is he not here why did he not come he's overextended he's uh he's here it is i don't know if
03:00it's uh superstition or not but he's watching the premiere of the movie here and he said i i if i
03:08leave i just can't i can't do it i can't do it okay i said he said no can i say that to graham can i
03:13tell you can i tell him they said yeah yeah yeah yeah please do okay cool i was afraid i had offended him
03:17because we did a joke about him once well you did at the golden globes where i said he was the star
03:21of my sexual nightmares i didn't think he liked it i'm sure he did that a good sense josh with me you
03:28don't care because you're just a huge kurt russell fan i'm a huge kurt russell fan um this is very
03:32exciting um my favorite film that you've done kurt uh i got recommended a film by my friend nathaniel
03:39called the barefoot executive yeah yeah a few millennia ago
03:45i forgot about it it's so good it's the best premise for a film of all time well it's one of
03:49the you know what's funny you say that because it got to be known as that it because it didn't look
03:54like it at first it's pretty funny idea if you haven't seen it um it's about kurt who's a tv
04:00executive and his friend who is a monkey yeah and get this the monkey if it watches a show it knows
04:08if it's going to be a hit or a miss it's amazing there's a picture of you and the the chimp there you
04:15are oh wow it's such a good film i actually think it's better than the godfather
04:22and uh tina of course you're here promoting your movie uh sisters yeah and you've been rolling out
04:31your british accent yes yes amy and i did a little uh we did a parody uh short called the farce awakens
04:38where we sort of doing a fake behind the scenes that was sort of in the style of all these behind
04:42the scenes star wars things since we're we're british in it but we're just speaking like this to
04:46hide the fact that we're drunk which really works because you can't tell i'm so drunk right now you
04:55can't tell i just sound proper because that is the star wars thing and your movie's really really
05:03good thank you but it may not be the number one film that i don't know i think it's too silly
05:09that's when an awareness is high it comes out the same day as star wars so it's what they call
05:18counter programming okay it's like when they put on very gay shows during the super bowl
05:28is the super bowl currently on somewhere somewhere it is
05:34but now the weird thing is because you auditioned for star wars didn't you kirk oh yeah years ago um
05:42you know they were going to do this movie and guys my age were all going in to read for it so yeah i
05:46read for both parts actually for han solo and princess yeah they went in a different direction
05:55it's funny because you know at the time it was the millennium falcon this and the death star that we had
06:02no idea we were talking about it that was the death star you know there's this young guy you
06:09know lucas was about 25 or something when he did you know i said i gotta make a choice here do you
06:16know if you're going to use me in this movie and he said i just can't i can't it's there's a lot of
06:21combinations that i'm looking at i don't know and so i said well i i gotta go i gotta go to work
06:28so what did you do instead of star wars well i didn't do it instead of star wars he may not have
06:31used me no let's go with you know you did it instead of star wars please god let it be the
06:38chimp film i didn't turn down anything that was the problem but but and tina fe you've given us
06:47your princess leia yeah i was a big star wars fan as a kid and i've dressed up like princess leia um
06:53for tv shows just i was always getting like to get out of jury duty i would dress up like princess
06:58leia if you want to meet some perverts dress up like princess leia and some guys on the crew
07:05you've never met before will come talk to you like if people there's a real specific
07:11like that yeah what so imagine so a version of star wars that was never made where you're
07:15princess leia and your hand solo so do the do the i love you oh oh yeah i love you getting into
07:20character hold on let's talk about uh the new tarantino epic the hateful eight it opens here on the
07:498th of january and it is tarantino but it's a western it's epic so which of the hateful eight
07:56are you kurt i'm uh john ruth john the hangman ruth i bring my bounties in alive you know he's bringing
08:03this bounty in the and there's a snowstorm pick up a couple of guys um that are uh out there in the
08:10snow in the middle of nowhere which is suspicious to him already he's he's very paranoid samuel jackson
08:16is also a bounty hunter so he may want to take his bounty from him and then there's this guy who
08:20claims to be the sheriff they're going and they they're trying to make it to red rock where they're
08:24going to get the money for the where he's going to get the money for this bounty and uh now they've
08:28got to stop at this place that's a halfway spot and there's already people there so he's very paranoid
08:34about everybody there and then the whole movie is about what unfolds who's who who's who's lying
08:40about who they are who who might not be who they are and uh it's tarantino so there will be blood
08:46oh there will they're really they're really good and we've got a picture of you as john can i just
08:52say as a beard owner myself yeah some great beard work here well that's like four months to grow so
08:58it's yeah it's not real stash wearing a man yeah oh good work yeah always looks better well goldie
09:05didn't think uh highly of it but the funny thing is in the movie it looks stunning but i must say
09:12i'm sort of with goldie in real life it didn't really work that well
09:19you gotta you gotta that's the life of an actor right you're married to a beard i'm married to a
09:24beard i am not i am not a beard no but i am there no my husband's got a beard now nice salt and pepper
09:30beard like yours and i i like it i wouldn't have said that i was a beard person but i like
09:35it on him i either where do you the beard i don't like is um you see this a lot at home right it was
09:39like you get like a sort of a fat guy who gets that shaves that skinny little beard here to show
09:44like where his jaw would be or like the one that's down here that my friend paula refers to as a
09:51fertile neck but i like a good do you like the way it looks but not like the way it feels i mean it's
09:59it's softer now like it when it's coming in yeah it's a little scratchy but i'm used to it now
10:03and i think it suits him again the salt and pepper i mean it's nicer baby skin is nice can you grow a
10:11beard if we had a race i think i could beat him if we had a favorite race it would be patchy but i could
10:18do it i've got no i can't really i i've never grown a proper beard because it's um patchy and ginger
10:23so that doesn't sound great good bragging
10:31oh no yes i don't know it's no good and i've got that are you shave those bits don't you there
10:36yes shave it yeah otherwise it would eventually just grow up and join my eyebrows and i just
10:42and i could pick hit or miss television shows it'd be good
10:45that hateful eight we've got a clip these are uh some moments from the hateful eight
10:56got room for one more
11:05this here is daisy damergoo she's wanted dead or alive for murder when that sun comes out
11:11i'm taking this woman to hand is there anybody here committed to stopping me from doing that
11:19looks like minnie's happy dasher is about to get cozy
11:24one of them fellas is not what he says he is
11:35he's seriously good
11:38everyone says everyone says that making a tarantino movie isn't like making anything else
11:42so now he's not here uh what you're talking about yeah what does that mean
11:47is it a good thing it's not like anything else you know it's funny i've heard a lot about him and
11:51his people talk about his mercurial way or what i don't know i i i love the guy i just think he's
11:57great i think he's his heart's in it i wish every actor uh could could work cheers for that everything
12:03all i can say is this is come prepared to to give everything you can think of and if you come ready
12:10to play um you're going to have the time of your life if you're not ready to play or if you're lazy or
12:14if you just if it doesn't click or doesn't mean that much to you then then it's not going to work
12:18but he has rules on set doesn't he um yeah just a couple i mean one of them is one of them is that
12:24you can't bring any uh any device you can turn on or off which i think is great i mean you're there
12:29to work i don't think you should have anything yeah the other one's a little rougher the other
12:33one is tougher on me because i like to i grew up sleeping on sets so when i hear people working i like
12:37to slump down in the chair and take a nap and uh and as you get older you like to take more and more
12:42naps and um he won't allow sleeping on his set so if he catches if anybody's caught sleeping
12:50one of his rules is is that uh they will slide in and put big jerry next to your face and take a
12:57picture of you with big jerry and put you on the wall and what is big jerry big jerry is a dildo that's
13:03about that big purple purple it's a purple it's a purple dildo big purple dildo i don't know where
13:09it can you turn big jerry on and off you know what i just said sometimes i get tired and i say bring
13:14me big jerry i don't know where we got this there's a picture from glorious bastards of brad pitt with big
13:22jerry could be there you go jerry is big you started directing you started as a director like young was
13:35it was it in school yeah i'm not really doing it but i yeah when i was in i was in community theater
13:42in my town and i would be like the assistant to the director in this little town theater and mostly
13:47just leveraged it to like sabotage uh girls that i was jealous of like i was dating the boy that i
13:55loved and i would just be like i don't i don't think she's right for this
14:00really just like the worst behavior we've ever seen at such a low level
14:05low-stakes sabotage well done you though yeah i did it i nailed it
14:10and when you became when you became head writer on saturday night live though
14:13then you did have to deal with kind of big stars egos and stuff yeah yeah have you hosted
14:19nope you've never done it nope maybe for this you should do it no no why you would have so much
14:24time i'm i'm i'm i'm just one of those people that would you're better off without me no i doubt it
14:34but you do you have other big stars come through every weekend and but you do sort of realize that
14:38even though they're you know oscar winners big stars like they're they're kind of nervous and they just
14:42want they want to be good they want it to be good and they want you to tell them they want you to
14:46like just tell me how to do it and i'm sorry i got pranked my very first show there and i was like
14:5127 years old and my first show the host was sylvester stallone which is a big that's like i'm
14:57like like that's like a movie star right yeah so and uh and we were doing some sketch and then i was
15:04like assigned to the help out and be a helper on the sketch and they were like um they just pranked me
15:08because they were like you need to uh go into his dressing room and tell him we can't understand
15:12anything that he's saying okay and he was so sweet about it and it was also so sweet because he was
15:22like clearly like not the first time he'd gotten that note he was like oh you can't steal me all right
15:27he was so nice and he just everyone just wants to do a good job he's a great guy isn't he i got to work
15:32with him once he's just a wonderful guy oh yeah tango and cash yep yep yes another one
15:42now kurt in the movie you play another one of these kind of big alpha males and you play you know we've
15:46seen him in backdrop big trouble little china stargate and of course escape from new york another terrific
15:51terrific film and work yes yeah now i read tomorrow you were saying that when you were you know making
16:00this movie and you were in the outfit you you kind of knew this movie was going to work oh um
16:08yeah one day we we were of course you shoot escape from new york in st louis
16:13and the reason we did is because at that time st louis the center of st louis was literally
16:18bombed out i mean there was just nothing there so it's perfect for for our needs and there weren't
16:22any many good news isn't it there weren't any of any bums down there i mean there was nothing down
16:30there so uh we were just young guys and so we're doing this show and and john one time carpenter
16:36said okay run down there about four or five blocks and then get just get off camera and we'll give you
16:42a walkie-talkie and tell you to come i want to get a shot of you running down here so i had that outfit
16:47on and i had this is 1980 and i had this massive machine gun and i had another gun on my hip and i
16:53had you know my eye patch on and and going down there i'm kind of you know getting in the snake mood
17:00and uh snake was a pretty bad boy he didn't you know much care about anything so by the time i got
17:05down there and turned the corner i was ready to go and uh i turned a corner and there's four guys four
17:11big guys coming around the corner from their side and they're coming they stopped and they looked at me
17:16and i had i because of the eye patch i had this habit of having to turn my head to really see what
17:21i was looking at and they saw this guy just looking at him like eyeballing him and it was that quarter
17:27of a second where something was going to go and they just went they looked at them and went easy man easy
17:37and they all turned around and walked away and i remember coming around
17:39when i told john i think this i think this character's gonna work
17:48now you are the real deal you growing up you were you know the jock kurt you were the sportsman all
17:53that uh but i have to say you are on the couch with kind of nerd central um what well no i'm not
18:01no no tina you've talked about but you yeah you do a lot of material about growing up a nerd but you
18:05really were a nerd yeah no i really was yeah we've got photographic evidence there you go this will
18:10prove it whoa i think that that haircut was done by folding my face in half
18:19the worst haircut of all time the guy from spinal tap who did it my mom used to take me to a
18:26haircutting school because you could get like it could literally a two dollar haircut and yeah that
18:32you're the guinea pig and the sign outside the school said london paris upper derby
18:41and you've talked you've talked about your late blossoming your sort of sexual awakening thank
18:46you for bringing that up i was wanting to make sure everyone knew yeah i mean yeah i was a late starter
18:51uh and yeah for sure i i don't i probably didn't see a penis until i was at least 20 and that was
18:58probably a medical journal so to see like a healthy penis well well into my late 20s
19:05now it's not modeled
19:13oh oh oh it's still horrible looking
19:17but then but you this is so weird to be talking to some of them but you did you did look at my
19:27body language you didn't do that physically quite early again thank you
19:35yeah no i think because you must have read the zimbabwe i did i was you know wearing
19:40bless my heart that haircut and like a bra i remember taking my mom taking me to jc penny and
19:45and trying a bra on over my clothes in the middle of jc penny and just being like no no mommy no
19:54it's like there's no there's no turning back yeah it's done for like 10.
20:00literally at the same time like 1980 the same time that kurt was scaring men in the streets of st
20:05louis now smash cut to a jc penny and josh we don't need to look for nerdy pictures of you because
20:17they're in the title sequence of your sitcom yeah and here you are as a little little boy oh come on
20:24that that was my elton john face
20:25now this next one you are such a high achiever here you are look at that yeah
20:35what what competition had you won second and third prize here i think it was uh i think it was worse
20:41shell suits was it no um it was um it was at the local village flower show for flower arranging
20:49what was that flower arrangement you did yeah i did a flower arrangement two
21:00well two um no you came second and third yeah no i think the other one was for there was a class which
21:05was um best um animal model made out of vegetables and my dad cheated and did it himself and still came
21:14third and then we've got one more picture of you that's in the thing oh like a young martina navratilova
21:31now listen uh tina fei geek no more because uh in your new movie sisters you play you play the wild
21:37child i do i played the we're sisters who were kind of opposite of each other in a lot of ways and i
21:41opted to play the the wrecking ball this woman who's a single mom and she's a sort of trashy
21:48hairdresser and uh yeah because i never get to play stuff like that and also the nice thing about the
21:52movie we play sisters amy and i um and uh my character is a wild woman who's trying to reform
21:58herself so it's almost like if i were in a film where it's like i was the greatest ice skater of all
22:03time but now i'm in this wheelchair you hear a lot about how hot i was and how many drugs i did but i
22:09don't do any of it in the film and then amy's character is the more uptight caregiver one and
22:13she's kind of cutting loose over the film and that's better casting because she's the one you
22:18want to see go completely off the chain by the end of the film it opens here tomorrow i'll have you
22:22know and it is really really funny i think and you and amy you are best best friends or just good
22:27friends we're very very good friends we we live on opposite sides of the country now and so we really
22:31the only time we get to hang out is when we work together so that's the the main reason we keep trying
22:36to do it but yeah we've known each other for over 20 years we uh we met in chicago doing improv
22:41and uh amy likes to say that our friendship is as old as lord is chicone madonna's daughter i'd
22:48say it's as beautiful and uh and so yes we we've done weird things we've done jobs where we were you
22:54know touring sketch comedy in a in a van for 75 bucks a show and then we've done saturday night live
23:00we used to do the fake news and then we've done the golden globes together so we always have these
23:04weird gigs but we just always say yes so we can hang out well listen we've got a clip this is uh
23:08you and you're just played by amy polar uh choosing your outfits for the party we try to go dress
23:13shopping
23:19what do you think braila that looks amazing on you and i never met a braila before i know like three
23:26oh so you're trending god bless you know it's a it's a lot of underteat but i think i'm getting
23:33away with it also it's um on backwards
23:41how's it going in there i don't get this dress
23:44those of my apples keeps rolling out of the back
23:47i like the story it tells with the fringe you have to rock a thong with this oh no i don't wear thongs
23:52i have a very fussy taint no you'd have to build up a callus right braila that looks amazing on you
24:03i want to ask which movie which movie has more use of the word taint
24:12the other thing about that clip that's funny is in the movie and this is really going to sell
24:15tickets they've digitally painted that in the movie you see the the bottom of my boobs but
24:20they've digit for clip purposes they've digitally painted a bra on me you really want to see my
24:26undertee that's so weird you say that because i saw the clip and i thought i don't remember the bra
24:32that's how sexy there we go and tina vee you've done all these extraordinary things you know the
24:39saturday night live your sitcom 30 rock and nbc all the and yet the thing that brought you so much
24:45attention was just the bizarre coincidence of you looking like someone yes it was a weird thing that
24:51uh and it seems like a million years ago now right it's like i guess it's eight years ago is it that
24:56yeah that i just happened to look like this woman sarah palin who was a vice presidential nominee and
25:01i don't even look that much like her oh yes you do oh yes you do we've got a picture of you dressed up
25:06as her that's a spectator that is you do look very like her but it was the weirdest thing and it was
25:11really this little six week window at the end of the last presidential election where it just uh
25:16was this like crazy storm of us being doing the sketches and being on the news all the time and
25:21it seems so um gentle and lovely now doesn't it compared to yeah really good news is you don't
25:28look like donald trump that is good the thing is the resemblance is so good that even i know it's
25:35only fox news but even fox news confused they ran a picture of me and thought it was her at one point
25:40yeah really yeah
25:49that's amazing have you have you kept in touch with her in any way we have lunch every no
25:55she came to the we had a big 40th anniversary show uh of snl and she came and yeah i saw her there
26:01you're she's lovely version of her was you were you were it was lovely to her well you know what
26:06i mean you were nice about that we tried to be fair you know you were fun and funny but it wasn't
26:11nasty bad thank you thank you for saying so because amy polar was playing hillary clinton at the time
26:16and we both were very aware that we didn't want just to be like nasty um but it's weird when you
26:21play a real person right yeah you've done it i had to do elvis a very famous person that's about as
26:29famous as a guy because elvis that was kind of that was established you as a i was going to say
26:33adult movie star but that makes it sound wrong a movie star as an adult i mean that was kind of your
26:42your big breakout role wasn't it it really yeah it really was i mean um but the thing about it is is
26:47that when you're playing the coca-cola can because everybody knows what you know it's you and you
26:53got that way at the time sarah palin was really well known everybody knew what she looked like and
26:58sounded like it's very difficult because that puts you get the parameters there that you cannot go
27:03outside of that or you start losing right but we i only had to be two-dimensional you had to portray
27:08this person yeah i mean i had but i had the i had help with the screenplay and the story sure you
27:13know so i had a lot going for it and it's so odd that this thing kind of crops up in your life
27:17because one of your very first acting roles was with the real elvis yeah it was 62 something like
27:22that it was the world's fair and uh i was 10 years old and i got this job you know to play this kid
27:28that kicks elvis in the shins too there you are kicking away he wants to meet a girl a nurse so he
27:36figures you know he gets this kid to injure him a little bit and i kind of hit him a little too hard
27:41and he you know but he paid me 50 cents and then later on when she's with him i run into him at the
27:46fair and i say hey mister you want me to kick you in the shin again and she's like looking at he
27:50goes get away you don't get away i said you can do it for a quarter i'll give me a big quarter and
27:54did you did you get the film wow that's better than the monkey one did you get that it was elvis i mean
28:03as a kid no i i i was my first brush with celebrity though i never i'd never i was just a kid you know
28:10was he nice to you yeah he was great he was really a nice man and he he uh he came on the set in the
28:16car and uh there were you know the world's fair was just opening and so there's a lot of people there
28:23and all of a sudden he came on the set and uh maybe two three thousand women just went they just jumped
28:30the car and he had to bail out and come in a different way and i thought this guy must really be famous
28:36well now josh whitacombe in your sitcom you you do get to meet your childhood showbiz heroes i do yes
28:45the chuckle brothers yes

28:53that's not what happens if you straighten my hair um yeah it is really long you guys probably don't
28:58know who the chuckle brothers are they're like the british version of you and amy polar really
29:03that makes it that's what it looks like to me the most well-respected people in british comedy
29:08they are they've got catchphrase you might like to incorporate into your act what is it if you say
29:14to me say it to me to you to me to you to me to you to me to you to me to you to me this is a dream

29:43or stay tuned because it's actually repeated after this very show and this is it's semi-autobiographical
29:50semi-autobiographical it's kind of about when i was um about three or four years ago living in a flat
29:55share kind of not doing very well in life and career so semi-autobiographical
30:05not content with having zipcom you are touring the land i am touring the land yes i'm going you look
30:11thrilled about it that was at the start of the talk imagine how i feel now um yeah i'm i'm going
30:18everywhere i i think i'm in i think i've been dorking as we speak oh okay yeah great i forgot about
30:26i bet it's going really well honestly best audience of the talk i can't believe i got carried
30:34from the venue on their shoulders but what i say you had a very bad gig but i think this was on the
30:40this wasn't on the tour no a lot of my early gigs i'm sure you started on the kind of same open mic
30:45scene that i did there was awful things like i once played i don't know what it was like when
30:50you started doing comedy in america i once played to two people oh i've done entire plays for two
30:54people yeah these these two were on a first date and i'll tell you our date well the date one the
31:01second half we played to one person when when were the farmers involved oh i once did a gig at a farmers
31:12college um all of us could work with elvis at the age of 10 mate so i had to work our way at the
31:22hard way are you drinking because my story's so sad thank you you're very gentle oh it's coca
31:30cold i thought it was wine there you go mate there you go you have that and i'll tell you about my
31:36life
31:47um it was to more people this time about 300 pricks i was booked to do 20 i had to leave the stage
31:55after six minutes because i refused to down a pint because they stopped the gig so that i had to down
32:02a point and then i got off and it was revealed to me that that was a pint of piss
32:07wow you had a problem with that
32:11didn't you want to entertain the people
32:13i wonder if there's a stand-up when we're watching this tonight going i drank that
32:24because you know it happens every year
32:27and we've got a clip from josh and this is you with your landlord played by jack d and in this
32:33clip he's teaching you how to swim this is the butterfly stroke so called because it mirrors the
32:40graceful flap of the butterfly wing
32:49over a short distance it's actually faster than front crawl so once again i'm just going to use
32:54this opportunity to tape it jack so it's arms legs breathing out breathing out breathing out
33:02breathing out have you got that i've got it you remember it all definitely you sure yep reckon you
33:07can do it yep wrong butterfly is actually the hardest stroke is way beyond your capabilities josh
