00:00Hi, I'm Emily Henry, and here are my top five cinematic rom-coms of all time, as of this moment.
00:06One of my top five rom-coms of all time is definitely You've Got Mail.
00:10I love the characters of Kathleen Kelly and Joe Fox.
00:14I love the bittersweetness of their arc so much.
00:16That's, I think, one reason I love Nora Ephron's movies.
00:19These characters are falling in love, but everything doesn't turn out perfectly.
00:22It's just that these two people find each other, and that makes things a little bit better and a little bit more beautiful.
00:28My next pick is While You Were Sleeping, starring Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman.
00:32Again, it's sort of got this melancholy vibe.
00:34She's sort of alone in the world and has this very small insular life and gets pulled into this big, loving family and meets Bill Pullman, who's part of that family.
00:43It's sort of like a love story, not just between the two of them, but between her and, like, everyone in his family.
00:48Obviously, I really love When Harry Met Sally, and it was hugely influential in writing People We Meet on Vacation.
00:54One of the first kernels of the book for me was thinking, oh, it'd be fun to take When Harry Met Sally and kind of gender swap them a little bit.
01:02Have the more uptight, neurotic character be the male lead and have the female lead be a little bit more brazen and funny and a little bit more annoying.
01:11The holiday.
01:12I love everyone in that, but I think that the relationship between Jack Black's character and Kate Winslet's character is really, really compelling because they both feel like such, like, everyday people in that movie.
01:22And also, there's just, like, an amazing grocery store in that movie, and everyone who's seen it knows what I'm talking about instantly.
01:28I went to a similar one in Canada, actually.
01:30They had goats on the roof.
01:32That's the closest I've gotten to the grocery store from the movie.
01:34My final favorite rom-com is Notting Hill, starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant.
01:40I love everything about this movie, but I think my favorite thing about it really is how little dialogue there is.
01:45It really shows off both of the actors' acting because you see so much of their relationship grow and just the looks that they give each other.
01:53I'm personally hoping that Poppy and Alex will become one of your favorite rom-com couples, and you can watch them and People We Meet on Vacation coming soon to Netflix.
02:00Thanks.
