00:00Today at the San Diego Zoo, we're celebrating our hippo calf's first birthday, and his name is Adama,
00:05so we actually threw a whole bunch of watermelon in to him and his mom, Funani.
00:10So the hippos got watermelon today, which is not on a regular basis.
00:14They will get fruit, but watermelon, it's very sweet, and it's something that they'll definitely interact with.
00:21Sometimes, for reinforcements, we'll give fruit to our hippos,
00:24but even sometimes their regular diet, such as lettuce and some of their pellets, is reinforcing,
00:30but this is definitely a special treat today.
00:38Adama is actually really well known because there's been some video that everyone tends to see
00:43of what they call hippo belly.
00:45When Adama's on exhibit, he'll actually twirl around under the water, and his mom will play with him.
00:50So the video's actually gone viral all over the world,
00:52and everyone likes to come out and see this famous ballet.
00:56So this morning, he was actually doing the famous ballet
01:00and playing and wrestling with his mom while twirling underwater.
01:04From birth to now, he's actually gained about 800 pounds.
01:08We knew when he was born, he was about 50 to 100.
01:10He now weighs about 860 pounds, so we actually weigh him on a bi-monthly basis.
01:16He's still nursing from his mom,
01:18but he's actually starting to eat some of the solid foods that Funami gets on a regular basis.
