00:00Previously on Project Runway Canada,
00:03each of you will design a high fashion fit
00:06that roars couture on a budget.
00:09I don't usually do couture.
00:10Black dresses are hard.
00:13Is there a world where we cut it scandalously low?
00:17The answer's no.
00:19Um, it looks messy.
00:22Ooh.
00:23I like the weirdness of it.
00:25I love the detail.
00:26I love the line play.
00:28The winner of this challenge is Leland.
00:31Yes!
00:32Maya and Foster, you both took a leap,
00:35but on the catwalk, your looks went astray.
00:38Maya, you are out.
00:40Thank you, judges.
00:42At stake for the winner, from TD,
00:44a career-launching investment of $100,000
00:48and a feature in Elle Canada magazine
00:51with global supermodel Coco Rocha,
00:54fashion designer Spencer Badu,
00:56creative director Aurora James,
00:59and legendary fashion journalist Jeanne Becker.
01:02This is Project Runway Canada.
01:05Watch me do my thing.
01:11Hello.
01:12Good morning.
01:13Guys, final four.
01:15I'm just so happy I'm here.
01:16Feels like I finally made it.
01:19Cheers!
01:19Cheers!
01:20Yeah, come on.
01:22This is our last chance, babe.
01:23Like, this is it.
01:25And then it's the finale.
01:26So I really, really, really got to put my best foot forward.
01:29So happy that I am in there, Doppel.
01:31The journey almost felt like it was going to take forever,
01:35but this is the end of it.
01:36It's a strong group.
01:38It's a strong group.
01:39I can't wait for the next runway because it's going to be killer.
01:42Good morning.
01:43Morning.
01:44Good morning.
01:46Thanks.
01:47How are we doing?
01:48Good.
01:48Good.
01:49Final four.
01:51I have something special that I could tell you,
01:53but I'd rather show you.
01:57Hi, I'm Jeanne Becker.
01:58I'm Jeanne Becker.
01:59And now here are some other stories making news from the world of fashion and design.
02:04Yes.
02:05Yes.
02:06Jeanne is an icon.
02:08I have so much respect for her.
02:10You have no idea.
02:12She's so cool.
02:13That's Hilary Dopp.
02:15I'm still running after her.
02:19Jeanne really brought fun into fashion for everybody at home.
02:24Fashion hasn't been this amazing for a long time.
02:28And the future is very bright.
02:29So we're talking cool here because we're with Tommy Hilfiger, who's like, you know,
02:33the king of cool these days.
02:35She's accomplished so much.
02:37And I think nobody understands hard work and a dream more than Jeanne.
02:42As you can see, the excitement at New York Fashion Week continues with
02:45Kara Lagerfeld, Valentino, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Michael Kors, Johnny Versace,
02:50John Galliano stole the show.
02:52So good.
02:53She was really uncovering secrets and behind the scene knowledge that we all have to thank her for.
02:59Is the world ready for you?
03:01Do you feel sometimes?
03:01Or do you feel it?
03:02I think you make the world ready for you.
03:04This collection doesn't have a great deal to do with fashion.
03:06It just has got to do with, like, how great these women can look, you know?
03:11That's so cute.
03:13Wow.
03:14Wow.
03:15An icon.
03:17For decades, Jeanne Becker has been at the forefront of style, not only in Canada,
03:21but around the world.
03:22As a host of fashion television, she sat down with many legendary designers,
03:27following them from their humble beginnings to superstardom.
03:31The four of you represent the next generation of this fashion legacy.
03:36Each of you has worked incredibly hard to get to this point,
03:40but there is one more challenge standing between you and the coveted spot in our final three.
03:47Leland, please head to the workroom to discover what's next.
03:52Off you go.
03:55What's today's challenge? What could it be?
03:57I walk into the workroom, and my jaw drops.
04:04Oh, my God.
04:08Oh, Jeanne!
04:12Jeanne, sweetie.
04:16Oh, God.
04:17Greatest privilege ever.
04:19This is such an iconic moment.
04:21I used to watch you so much,
04:23and, like, the life you brought onto the screen was so inspiring.
04:26It's such a surreal moment.
04:29Wow.
04:29Kind of a mini collection.
04:31A mini collection.
04:31I mean, somatically, a little all over the map, but wow.
04:35Strong statements there.
04:37How do you feel when you look around?
04:39I feel like I'm living the dream that I always wanted,
04:43and I am so grateful.
04:44And just seeing everything, I did this.
04:47Wow.
04:48You are such an elegant designer.
04:52Thank you, Jeanne.
04:53I had no idea how I was going to respond in this competition,
04:58and I had a lot of fears that I would embarrass myself,
05:01but looking back at all of this, I don't think I have anything to be embarrassed about,
05:05which feels really good.
05:06Your attention to detail and the labor of love is astounding.
05:11I can't believe I made it here, but I can't believe I made it here.
05:15I'm never afraid to make something inexpensive look beautiful,
05:18or mix those codes between casual and streetwear.
05:20There's something so distinctive about what you do.
05:23I mean, you definitely have a signature style.
05:26I can't believe I did this.
05:27I pushed myself so far.
05:30I'm not a costume designer.
05:31I am a designer.
05:33Kind of a Bob Mackie vibe.
05:35Oh, my God.
05:36I just chip off the old block.
05:38When you look back at this competition so far,
05:42what do you think it's taught you?
05:43Nothing that's perfect is interesting or inspiring to me,
05:47and that sort of taking things slightly left of center,
05:49I think that's a really interesting space to be in.
05:52You know, I come from a different world.
05:54I just became a Canadian citizen,
05:56so I have a perspective that needs to be seen and heard.
06:00There's some things that I feel I haven't shown the judges yet.
06:03What do I say about sex appeal?
06:05How do I show sex appeal?
06:08There have been so many moments in my life where I'm like,
06:11why is this so hard?
06:13Each time I want something bigger,
06:15the universe throws me something that makes me want to quit.
06:19But throughout this competition, I've gotten more and more strong,
06:22and this is a lifelong dream.
06:25I feel like I live with my imposter syndrome so much,
06:28and I tell myself that, you know, I'm great and things are good,
06:31but, like, it's the truth, and it's all here.
06:35I'm just so proud.
06:36Well, I'm so proud of you, too.
06:39Are you ready to hear about your final challenge?
06:41So ready.
06:42Yes.
06:43Yes.
06:44We're surrounded by the look that brought you to this moment,
06:47but your next step is to show us your future.
06:50For this penultimate challenge, you must design a legacy-defining look
06:56that proves why you deserve a chance in the finale.
06:59Okay.
07:01You have complete freedom in what you choose to design.
07:06My God.
07:07With only three spots in the finale, this is your chance to leave a lasting impression
07:13and show us what you're made of.
07:15So don't hold that.
07:17I can't wait to show you.
07:18This is a two-day challenge.
07:19There are some model cards for you to choose from in your sketchbook.
07:22I can't wait to see what you come up with.
07:26Thank you, Jeannie.
07:27The gears are turning already.
07:36This is the dream challenge for any designer.
07:39It is complete freedom.
07:41I can finally just be myself.
07:46After this long competition, I'm more resilient.
07:49I'm stronger than ever, and I know exactly what I want to say.
07:53I've worked to be here.
07:54I've proven myself, and it's time to take a risk.
07:58Push the boundaries for what I'm capable of.
08:00I'm really going to bring this home.
08:02There's no other Leland Mitchell on the planet.
08:04This is my moment.
08:06I can feel it.
08:19Hello, designers.
08:21I hope you all had so much fun talking to Jeannie.
08:24I don't know if you know, but I used to intern at fashion television.
08:27So she is where dreams become reality.
08:31You all have 30 minutes and a budget of $400 to shop.
08:36Go.
08:37We're going to move.
08:38Take a risk.
08:41Been in this fabric store for weeks now.
08:44You know what they have.
08:45Freedom?
08:47Unheard of.
08:48Okay.
08:49This is not what I was expecting you to go for.
08:51We're going for everything today.
08:53This is not classic foster.
08:55No, it's not.
08:56We're not going classic this time.
08:58The games are different.
08:59I hope I can find some iridescent fabrics.
09:03I think this look is going to surprise the judges.
09:07I want to create something that feels ethereal and angelic, but also very sensual.
09:14We have this one.
09:16I'm scared about the risk I'm going to take, but I do feel that there's a lot to prove.
09:22Can foster do sex appeal?
09:23Only one way to find out.
09:25This is all that's left?
09:26Yeah, yeah, that's the best.
09:27I'm going to have to keep searching.
09:29I'm looking for something gray.
09:32This is nice.
09:33I am here to show the judges exactly what I represent.
09:37So I'm going back to what I love the most, which is corsetry, and I am making a 100% gender
09:44fluid garment, pairing a tightly laced corset with sheer puff sleeve blouse, some super wide
09:50leg skirt gaucho-y pants with a long train behind it.
09:53And because it's me, there will be grommets, there will be spikes, and there will be a hat.
09:58There's no holding back.
10:00This is what I want to do, and I'm going to do it.
10:02Oh, that could be good.
10:03For this challenge, I'm excited to bring a luxe element to streetwear.
10:09I love to make sweatpants feel elegant.
10:12So I'm making this beautiful oversized hoodie, and I'm pairing it with this peplum pencil skirt.
10:19To put couture and streetwear together in this way, I want it to be like the next iteration of me.
10:25I'm looking for a beautiful heathered gray fleece.
10:27Do we have like gray color?
10:29Or like even any fleece material.
10:31It's like finding a needle in a haystack.
10:33I'm freaking out.
10:34This is not the place where you make mistakes, especially in the final four.
10:39I just can't find the fleece I need.
10:44I'm seeing all of these off whites, and then out of nowhere, this beautiful beige comes out.
10:49I'll pivot to cream.
10:50I see this black and white sequined psychedelic moment, and it's calling out to me.
10:57It's like, make something out of me.
11:00All right, what's the idea?
11:01Because we got interviewed by Jeannie Becker, I'm almost inspired by the 90s a little bit this one.
11:06I'm hoping to make something new glare meets the nanny meets 90s meets glamour.
11:12This is really cool.
11:13It's Glenn Close meets Carrie Bradshaw.
11:16Like, I see it.
11:17I'm trying not to go over the top, but also I'm going over the top.
11:22I love it.
11:23I love it.
11:23This is it, since we didn't have the iridescent one.
11:27My new plan is a faux leather crocodile skin top.
11:30I like this.
11:31I like this.
11:32And then the skirt is going to be crinoline base with a tulle overlay.
11:37That's it.
11:37Time is up.
11:39I will see you back at the workroom.
11:45Let's go.
11:45Woo!
11:46Last first day.
11:49All right.
11:49The beginning of the end.
11:51All right, let's get this show on the road.
11:53To be in the top four is intimidating.
11:55I know Leland is very fast.
11:58Charles, very conceptual.
12:00And Curtis has such a rich knowledge in fashion history.
12:05This is going to be really tough.
12:07But I'm up for the challenge.
12:10Bam!
12:10Bam.
12:12Loves it.
12:14Little tush.
12:15Everybody's got something to prove this week.
12:17And we all want this so bad.
12:20Oh my god, I love these so much.
12:23Charles, how's your drafting going?
12:25I hate this part because it takes the longest.
12:27And there's usually nothing when everyone's making something.
12:31I'm not one of those people that cut into the fabric immediately.
12:34I really need to see what the shape looks like.
12:36And then I perfect my pattern.
12:38What would usually take three days, I have to essentially finish in a couple of hours.
12:44How's it going, Curtis?
12:47Good.
12:47I'm trying to do like a real, real corset.
12:51Yeah.
12:52I know Jeannie Becker has forbidden me from corsetry.
12:56I don't think we should be seeing any more corsets with the laces in the back.
13:01The trend forecasters say no more corset.
13:03But this corset is completely different than any other ones that I've created.
13:08At the end of the day, this look represents my future and corsets are my signature.
13:13Looks good.
13:14Oh, the shape.
13:15The shape is nice.
13:16Hello, designers.
13:24Hi.
13:32Show me your vision.
13:33I initially had this idea of making this ethereal being, but they ran out of fabric.
13:39So I had to pivot.
13:40So this is going to be like a off the shoulder top.
13:44And then it's going to be a sheer skirt underneath.
13:46I want to show a leg, a little bit of underwear.
13:48I'm giving them some sexiness.
13:50So last week you went from fully covered and now you want to show underwear.
13:54It's about risk.
13:55And you're sure underwear is your ticket to final three.
13:58I came here to be pushed.
13:59I'm not afraid of taking the risk.
14:01It's ambitious.
14:02It is very ambitious.
14:04I'm already sweating.
14:05Keep it going.
14:06Fast paced.
14:07Yeah.
14:07Lots to do.
14:08Yeah.
14:08Can I work now?
14:10Bye.
14:10Nice to see you working away here.
14:14Walk me through how this is going to get you to the final three.
14:18I always liked this idea of mixing couture and streetwear.
14:22And I never really had a chance to express myself there.
14:25My love for marrying opposites together really stemmed from my confusion as a kid and my identity.
14:32I was never masculine or I was never feminine.
14:36And so now I realize there's such beauty when you kind of mix the extremes together.
14:41There's been a lot of people who have tried to make sweat suits, high fashion,
14:48and very few have broken through to really make it archival and memorable.
14:53All of your finishing has to be perfect.
14:54Your silhouette has to be jaw dropping as soon as the model steps on the runway.
14:58There's nowhere to hide and I'm not hiding anywhere in this.
15:00Huh, there's nowhere to hide.
15:02There's nowhere to hide.
15:03To put these two elements together in this way involves an incredible deal of mastery and balance.
15:09This is a huge risk, but I'm pushing myself to my absolute limit with this one.
15:14Nowhere to hide.
15:17This is final three worthy?
15:19Oh yeah.
15:20So tell me why this sketch really represents the best of Leland.
15:25I think it could really be a cool moment.
15:27This fabric like caught my eye and I fell in love with it.
15:32I'm going to be making the outfit out of this and doing this really awesome red fur lining.
15:37I really wanted to tap into the 90s.
15:39Cool.
15:40I just want to make sure that it also feels like this is the Leland that we're going to want to see play out
15:46on the finale runway.
15:48When you see this look coming down the runway, you are going to know it's instantly me.
15:53Because of the technique, because of the fabrics, because of the love in it, and all of these little
15:58attention to details.
16:02Okay.
16:03Walk me through your sketch, please.
16:05I would love to.
16:06We're going back to corsetry, except I'm returning in a way that I haven't presented to the judges yet at
16:12All I'm going with a male model, and we're doing a gender bent tight corset billowy shirt.
16:18Is going with a male model a risk for you?
16:21Yeah.
16:22Making a corset for a male identifying body is a bold decision.
16:28I'm pushing the boundaries of what menswear can look like.
16:31I love it.
16:32I love what I'm doing.
16:33I love it.
16:33All right, designers, you only have three hours left in the workroom.
16:40Okay.
16:42Oh, but there's one more thing.
16:48TD will provide the winner of this challenge with $5,000.
16:52Okay, money.
16:53Okay, money.
16:54Good luck.
16:54See you tomorrow.
16:55See you.
16:56Thank you, TD.
16:57Y'all don't need another $5,000.
16:59I'm saying that right now.
17:03The crinoline is a new experience for me.
17:08This fabric is very slippery.
17:11The skirt is too small.
17:13Just need to recut it and sew it.
17:15So take two.
17:16This is the last thing I need.
17:22I'm feeling overwhelmed.
17:24When I look at Leland's look, I feel super behind.
17:27But I need to make these patterns perfect.
17:31There's really no room for error.
17:33It feels tense.
17:40It's all just hitting us how serious this is.
17:43We all want to be top three.
17:45We have one runway left and we all really have to prove ourselves.
17:50I just hope this piece is taking me to the finale.
17:53Ah, another beautiful day.
18:01It's our last full day in the workroom and we all have a lot to do.
18:06Charles seems to still be cutting out pieces and nothing's on a mannequin.
18:10Leland has made an entire look and I'm not really sure what Foster's up to.
18:15I never really settled on one idea since I had to pivot.
18:19So I'm just kind of like finding some direction.
18:21There's a fitting coming very soon and I just need to put something together.
18:27The hoodie is the identifier of this piece.
18:31To get this volume and structure I want, I'm going to have to bond and fuse the top layer of jersey,
18:37add a layer of batting, add a layer of stiff crinoline in there and tulle.
18:41This process normally takes about a week and I'm doing this at lightning speed.
18:46If this fabric came thick enough, I wouldn't have to do this.
18:50Look how cute the little purse is going to be.
18:52Oh my god, you've got a heart on.
18:54Oh, yeah a little bit.
18:57Good morning designers.
18:58Hey, hello.
18:59I really want to see what you're up to.
19:05Foster?
19:06Yeah?
19:07I think we need to talk.
19:09I mean, Aurora, it's just not the time.
19:13Is that really all that we've done in this time?
19:17I'm literally learning, fixing and going.
19:20It's a lot, but you know, it's a risk and we came to take risks.
19:24I just really want you to be able to pull this off.
19:27So whatever you do, have it be all about action at this point.
19:32Because looking at this, I'm scared.
19:34I wanted to take a risk with the fabric, but I need to work three times faster.
19:38It's the finale.
19:39Everything's at stake.
19:41I will have something ready to fit the models.
19:45Hey!
19:45You've got a lot going on here.
19:47Yep.
19:47Walk me through everything that's happening.
19:49I'm really kind of playing with the sequin fabric.
19:51I've made a couple extra little accessories.
19:54The purse.
19:55I think that you have nailed the 90s camp.
20:00All right, perf.
20:01I think what we may want to do, especially since you have time,
20:05because you're unbelievably fast, is how we can pull this into the future.
20:11I do agree with Aurora.
20:12I think I need to modernize this look.
20:14I just need to turn it a little bit to kind of bring it to now.
20:18What could we do?
20:20What's going on here?
20:21I'm just looking at it now with, like, the pant against the corset.
20:25And then we'll have this for, like, the big balloon sleeve.
20:28And you are confident that this look shows where you're going.
20:32Future of Curtis.
20:34Absolutely.
20:34I mean, challenge one.
20:36I would have never imagined making something like this.
20:38This is me presenting a really raw and vulnerable side of myself.
20:42I came here to sew, but really I uncovered so many things about my identity as a non-binary person
20:48and felt more comfortable in my skin than I ever have.
20:51You see the craftsmanship?
20:53The crafts non-binary-ship.
20:56Hi.
20:56Hello.
20:57How are you feeling about it?
20:58It's feeling how I wanted it to feel, and it's not sagging.
21:00It feels familiar, but it's not familiar.
21:02It's just me.
21:04Even though I know you feel that it's very different than past shapes that you've done,
21:09it still feels very reminiscent of Charles to me.
21:13Yes.
21:13Which can be good, but it can also be bad,
21:16because it makes me feel like I've already seen all sides of Charles.
21:22And I think for us to get to the final three,
21:25the judges have to feel like there's something else in there that they're really excited to see.
21:32Got a hint to that here.
21:33I will.
21:35I get where Aurora is coming from,
21:38and I think accessories are really going to drive this look home.
21:41I'll find the ways.
21:47All right, your models are here.
21:49Yeah!
21:50Hi, how are you?
21:52Hi, how are you?
21:53Oh my goodness, hi.
21:54I almost just want to do a top of this.
21:57It's so good!
21:59How are we looking?
22:00How's the fit?
22:01I'm loving the fit so far.
22:02I think it's so cool.
22:04But you're right, it's a little dated.
22:06So I came up with...
22:11That's fun.
22:12We see this, girl.
22:13This is like a hip-hop rapstress running around, doing it.
22:17You know what I really appreciate?
22:20Taking the red off the cuff.
22:21You think so?
22:22I think it's much chiquer without it.
22:24Oh, baby, it's gone.
22:26Okay, this is when it's going to get serious.
22:28We're going to try the corset.
22:29I have finished the beginnings of my corset.
22:32Doing a corset fitting involves how they're feeling in it,
22:35how it's looking, and if there's any acute alterations I need to make.
22:38Are you okay comfortable-wise?
22:39I just have to make sure I take shallow breaths.
22:42Not only does it go over the lower bust,
22:45it contours the waist and then continues over the hips.
22:48So I have three areas here that need to be perfectly contoured to my model's body
22:53to make sure I'm conveying the themes I want to communicate.
22:56That's good?
22:56Oh, you can do tighter than that.
22:58Okay.
22:59It looks so good.
23:01The bottom of this crinoline skirt looks so good.
23:05I think my model is going to look amazing on the runway.
23:08All right, do you want to try to do another little walk in it?
23:10What is it?
23:12Oh!
23:17Why?
23:18You okay?
23:19This is bad, bad, bad, bad.
23:22Are you okay?
23:23I'm good.
23:23You're sure?
23:24Yes.
23:25We can't have her falling.
23:26I can't have her falling at all.
23:28I'll cut more off the sides.
23:30The skirt, I need to be perfect.
23:33I just have to cut and test, cut and test.
23:37But at this point, if the model comes in tomorrow and she trips again, we're scrapping
23:42this whole thing.
23:45I can't afford her tripping.
23:47Yeah, I think that's it.
23:49Shall I get you out of this guy and then I can make the rest of your outfit?
23:53All right.
23:53Thank you, models.
23:55Time to go.
23:56Jed, bye, baby.
23:58Tomorrow will be great.
23:59I'll fix everything and we'll have a better day.
24:04Designers.
24:06Every single minute counts.
24:09Be smart with your time.
24:11The judges are going to be looking at every detail of these looks.
24:15I'll see you tomorrow.
24:16Thank you, Aurora.
24:17Bye, Aurora.
24:19Foster, how's it going?
24:20Did you get the skirt figured out?
24:22Yeah, I'm going to add horse hair and the hem.
24:24I'm going to raise the side and just see.
24:25Okay.
24:26Perfect.
24:27You working on the jacket?
24:28Yeah.
24:30The skirt needs more work, but I have to make sure I finish the
24:35jacket.
24:36I'm running out of time.
24:37The runway is tomorrow.
24:39Learning as I go.
24:46Oh my God.
24:46You guys, last day.
24:48Last day.
24:49It's runway day.
24:51I have a big list of things I need to do.
24:53There's no zipper in the front of the hoodie.
24:55I have to do the binding of the neckline.
24:57I have to create a facing.
24:58I'm a little frantic and I know I'll be using every bit of time right till the very end.
25:03Are you ready for a fitting?
25:05Not today.
25:06Hey.
25:06Oh my goodness.
25:08I wish I had more time.
25:10I was going to make some white underwear to go underneath this outfit to show a little
25:16bit more sex appeal, but I've bitten more than I can chew.
25:20The skirt is not looking right.
25:22And I also have to finish the jacket.
25:24So I'm scrapping the underwear.
25:26All right.
25:27And to the finish line.
25:30Good morning, designers.
25:31It is runway day.
25:33And today is the day that four becomes three.
25:37Who wants a model?
25:39How are you?
25:40What's goody?
25:41Hi, how are you?
25:43Despite what happened yesterday, we're just going to dust it off and move forward.
25:48You have 30 minutes with your models.
25:51Use every minute wisely.
25:54This is your ticket to the finale.
25:57Yes, ma'am.
25:58You look like you're from like a band with David Bowie.
26:02Okay.
26:03What is happening?
26:05Look at what's going on here.
26:07Yeah.
26:07Gathering-wise versus how much is going on here.
26:10Yeah, I see you.
26:11We still need to work on this blouse.
26:14I love this look so much, but I've got work to do.
26:17Okay, let's get this off of you because I got to work on it.
26:20The fit is looking good here.
26:21The fit is fitting.
26:23Why don't we try on the blazer with it too?
26:25Are you putting the cuffs back on?
26:26Why don't we look at them and we can figure out if we even like them.
26:29That's why I kind of made them a removable option.
26:31So I don't know, something about the cuffs is making it a little bit more fun,
26:36but I think no cuff makes it very now.
26:38Don't we want now?
26:40Don't we want current?
26:41Future of the future.
26:41If there's something that you can just pair back, why not do it?
26:45I like it better without it.
26:47You are not incorrect.
26:51Got this.
26:53Yeah, I got it.
26:54I don't know if I got it, but I got it.
26:57I think it's kind of cool if we do this.
26:59All right, designers, when you're ready,
27:01start bringing your models to the L'Oreal Paris Glam Room.
27:05Let's do it.
27:09What are we doing today?
27:11Sportswear means luxury.
27:12Bold, full brows are having its moment right now.
27:15I'm going to use the faux brow eyebrow pen.
27:17It's going to mimic her natural eyebrow hair,
27:19and then we're going to want to set it with the brow lamination.
27:23It's going to last all day, and she's going to look stunning.
27:26That's exactly what I want.
27:27Yes.
27:28All eyes are going to go right to her.
27:30Gorgeous.
27:34Oh, yes.
27:35The makeup is perfect, and once I add this little hat,
27:39I'm so excited.
27:41God, the final minutes.
27:43You are almost there.
27:44Designers, let's start heading to the runway.
27:48Oh, my God.
27:53I'm feeling pretty confident that this look is going to pique the judges' interests
27:57and carry me through to the top three.
28:00With this look, I deserve to be in the final three.
28:03I've pulled out everything in my arsenal to put this together.
28:06It's undeniable.
28:09It is finished.
28:11She looks out of this world.
28:13I really took a leap of faith, and I feel so proud of myself.
28:17I'm here to show off who I am, what I can make, and I want people to smile when they see this look.
28:23I know that the judges are going to see the confidence and the fun with this.
28:28To the runway.
28:29Let's go.
28:29To the runway.
28:30Let's do it.
28:31Final four.
28:32Let's go.
28:33Woo.
28:53Hi, designers.
28:56Hi.
28:56Welcome back.
28:58This week, we asked you to create a look that shows us not where you've been,
29:02but where you're heading towards in fashion.
29:05You had complete creative control, and we are so excited to see your visions come to life.
29:11But as you know, there are only three spots in the finale.
29:16So that means tonight, three of you will be in, and one of you will be out.
29:21Say hello to your judges.
29:24Fashion designer, Spencer Perdue.
29:27Hi, designers.
29:27Congrats on making it here.
29:29Thank you, Spencer.
29:30Fashion journalist, Jeannie Becker.
29:33So much love, you guys.
29:34Hi, Jewel.
29:35We love you, too.
29:36We love you.
29:37And your guest judge.
29:39He's a visionary leading the house that redefined North American fashion.
29:44Please welcome Halston's creative director, Ken Downing.
29:48Hello, designers.
29:50Hi.
29:51Ken Downing is here.
29:53This is so surreal.
29:54Legacy brand here in Canada, judging some of the next legacy designers.
29:59It's getting meta.
30:00Shall we get the show started?
30:02All right.
30:03Let's do it.
30:04Let's do it.
30:14This is my most authentic piece.
30:17It feels elegant, but it also feels street wear at the same time.
30:21I hope the judges see my journey and my technical ability.
30:27For me, it really sets a precedent for where I'm going to go.
30:31This is who I am and I'm happy to share it with the world.
30:35The silhouette of this corset is incredible.
30:45It's something the judges haven't really seen for me before and I feel like I'm watching another
30:50version of myself.
30:52It's a complete representation of my own journey through this competition.
30:57Every time I build a look, I'm trying to tell a story and I absolutely achieved my vision.
31:03But this look, I want the judges to see something that is more adventurous and less restrained,
31:15something that is the future of where I'm going.
31:18Wow.
31:19It feels very current and modern and I think the skirt is definitely timeless.
31:25I really worked hard and just wanted to show the judges something new.
31:29This is one of my strongest looks.
31:37It's so good and fun and that's what I know that I can bring to the finale is the fun and fashion.
31:48And everything is made incredibly. I'm so happy with it.
32:03Designers, please step up to the runway.
32:12Tonight will be someone's final chapter.
32:19Wow, what a show.
32:20You're all incredibly talented and you should be super proud of yourselves.
32:24We'd like to speak to each one of you about your designs.
32:27Let's bring out your models.
32:33Wow, four distinct looks.
32:35Let's start with Charles.
32:37I really wanted to incorporate everything I've learned in this competition so far and
32:43added in my couture sensibility.
32:45And I really wanted to express this intersection between casual and couture and streetwear.
32:50I think like streetwear is a risky thing to do.
32:53I love the way you're able to deconstruct and reconstruct something as simple as a tracksuit.
32:58For me, the shape is amazing. It feels like something that I haven't seen before.
33:02I was blown away by this.
33:04I'm assuming the hood is functional.
33:06It is functional.
33:07I mean, it's fantastic. Is it fleece?
33:10I really wanted to go gray fleece here and I could not find gray fleece.
33:14This fabric is a lot thinner than how it's supposed to be.
33:17And so I had to bond every single piece of material just to give it the shape I wanted it to have.
33:23You took a negative and you made it a positive.
33:25Bravo, Charles.
33:27I love the balance, the plate with proportion.
33:30And I love the fact that you risked working with a fabric that we're not used to seeing you work with.
33:36I have to say, this is the most you. This is what I've been waiting for. I love it.
33:42Foster, walk us through this look.
33:43With this challenge, I wanted to push my boundaries.
33:47I loved the idea of taking some elements from a biker jacket and sort of like deconstructing it
33:53and pairing it with something sheer and delicate. But the crinoline is something new for me.
33:57I took the risk.
33:59The way you sculpted the neckline just slightly over the shoulder really brought an excitement
34:05and a real strength to the entire look.
34:08This looked to me like the kind of bridal outfit for the year 2050.
34:13Something very romantic about it to me.
34:15The mock crock was fabulous. I understand it's not easy to work with.
34:20We've no need to be elegant, soft, but there was something very edgy about this.
34:25We can see it. You're pushing yourself. We're seeing it.
34:28Thank you, Foster.
34:29Thank you, Coco.
34:30Curtis.
34:31Coming into this competition, I was holding a lot of fear about how my own identity and how I
34:37present as non-binary would be perceived. I've played with gender a lot. This feels like pieces of me.
34:43I really appreciated what you brought here. Just giving like pirates of Curtis. And I love the
34:49construction here. I think that's something that we've come to know and love about you.
34:53The corset is exquisite. The way that it is executed looks spectacular. It was this beautiful,
34:59seamless transportation of bringing something from the past forward.
35:05One thing that you always manage to do is transport us. You're a storyteller and I like the stories you
35:11tell. This I get. Why can't men be more romantic? Thank you, Curtis. Leland, tell us about your design.
35:19Every chance in this competition, I've really just tried to show the fun in fashion. This is like an
35:25extravagant over the top Leland look. My inspiration for it was kind of a Fran Drescher moment. But then
35:32I really wanted to swing it to now and to run with like a Cardi B Normani silhouette. So that's why
35:37the skirt came off immediately. I will say I'm so mesmerized by the fabric because it's a little mod.
35:44It reads like a zebra pattern. And then you just boldly put it all together. The heart collar was not
35:49lost on me. Your technique is great. I love it. Is it kitschy? Yes. Is it camp? Yes. But I applaud you.
35:56Thank you. Impeccable in terms of execution. But I felt like it did lack a bit of originality. I just
36:02felt like I seen it before and I'm really curious what Leland looks like in the future. But it makes
36:09a statement. And I think it's a very specific way of seeing the world for sure. And I think the world
36:14probably does need a lot more of that. Jejeanie, you make me cry too much, girl.
36:20Thank you, Leland. Thank you so much. Amazing work, everyone. You've given us
36:25so much to think about. You can all leave the runway. Thank you.
36:28That was so good. I'm so pleased with what I just saw. But we have to decide who's joining us at the
36:41finale and whose journey ends tonight. I love Charles. I think he really understood what the
36:47brief was. He has a clear point of view. The idea of making something that was so incredibly
36:53haute couture. But doing it in fleece made me just want to see more of what he's going to do.
37:00It was bold. And I think that's what we're looking for here on the runway.
37:04I loved how Curtis is able to play with this sense of androgyny. I think menswear is a space that
37:10needs to be challenged. All of the lovely details, the grommets, the lace, and I love the fluidity,
37:15the pieces, how they almost became one. Very appropriate to how he sees the world.
37:21He's very good at fanciful romance. He loves his little chapeaus. I love that. He has a very,
37:27very clear vision. All right, Leland. I think Leland is a great showman.
37:32And he obviously likes drama. He likes his clothes to get noticed. That jacket
37:37was tailored exquisitely. Is every woman going to dress like that? No, but every woman that dresses
37:43like that isn't every woman. I think the little heart bag, so mesquino.
37:48If I'm going to wear a purse, it better have a statement. Give me every color of that thing.
37:52Accessories are the things that sell the most. Honestly, I think with this look, I'm a bit,
37:56I'm a bit mixed. Where I feel like Leland has performed best is when he has some sense of
38:01restriction. I don't necessarily know who Leland is. I can't believe you're saying that. I think Leland,
38:08there's just so many things that you can see about him and how much he really cares about what he does.
38:13And that's fashion. Obviously, this outfit was campy and it was kitschy, but he's just drawing on
38:19a variety of pop culture references. And I appreciate that. Here's my thing. Leland,
38:25Curtis and Charles. I wouldn't say there's growth. I think they've always been really secure with what
38:31they do. Foster from the beginning was at the bottom. And then over time, he started to grow from
38:36the middle to the top and to winning. And I appreciate that. I thought he did pretty amazing.
38:41I'm so happy to see Foster take the chance and go out on the edge and really push it. And he really
38:47wants to please. I love that he went with hard and soft and it was ethereal. I think that he picked
38:54the right idea and shape for that jacket. I love that it was all white. Even the addition of the belt felt
39:01something that I wouldn't necessarily expect from Foster, those things are very promising. Foster's
39:06really showed us that he has the vision. But who is the next star that was in front of us today?
39:13Is it about commercial viability or is it about artistry? All four have great talent. Proud of them.
39:20Absolutely. All right, let's bring the designers back out.
39:23Welcome back, designers. You all pushed your limits and put on a fantastic show tonight. And
39:35congratulations on making it to this point. There are only three spots in the finale. But no matter
39:42what happens, I just want you to all remember this is only the beginning. Charles, you have such a strong
39:52vision and an unmistakable aesthetic. Tonight, you stayed true to Charles and took a risk that paid
40:00off. Foster, we see something so special in you. You're elegant, curious, and you've shown us so much
40:11growth in this competition. Curtis, you gave us romance, whimsy, and gender bending artistry.
40:19Leland, the king of construction. We love how you bring so much joy to the runway.
40:28And you always keep us guessing.
40:32The winning look tonight not only demonstrated balance, it was masterfully executed with a soft
40:40elegance. The winner of this challenge and the first designer to make it to the finale is
40:47Charles.
40:55Yay! Oh my gosh, I want this challenge! This is the one I wanted to win. Because if they're saying,
41:03we love your authentic self, then that is the best challenge I could win.
41:08And because your look stole the show, TD is providing you with a $5,000 cash prize.
41:16Thank you. Congratulations. Thank you so much.
41:20The second designer who will be joining us in the finale is...
41:24Curtis. Oh my god.
41:35I'm in the top three. One, two, three. I've been wanting this for longer than I'm willing to admit.
41:43So to be able to be here in this three with Charles is incredible.
41:47Foster and Leland, you are both so talented in your own rights.
41:57But only one of you can move on to the finale.
41:59The final designer to make it into the finale is...
42:12The final designer to make it into the finale is...
42:26What are we doing to the finale?
