00:00Previously, on Project Runway Canada.
00:02This week, you will design a high fashion look
00:05inspired by one of these shoe styles.
00:08I love shoes.
00:10I wanted to do events on the pants,
00:12but I don't have the time for it.
00:14This is a lot.
00:16Consider just cutting these off.
00:18I will not cut them off.
00:20The ruffles of Rupin, Maya, Foster.
00:23You both paid homage to your footwear.
00:26The winner of this challenge is Foster.
00:29Oh my God, what?
00:30Rome, Kat, I'm so sorry, but you're both out.
00:37At stake for the winner from TV,
00:39a career launching investment of $100,000
00:43and a feature in Elle Canada magazine
00:45with global supermodel Coco Rocha,
00:48fashion designer, Spencer Badu,
00:51creative director, Aurora James,
00:53and legendary fashion journalist, Jeanne Becker.
00:57This is Project Runway Canada.
00:59Watch me do my thing.
01:10Oh my gosh.
01:11Ooh.
01:13What's going on?
01:15There's five gold envelopes, five of us,
01:17and giant tigers here?
01:19Hello, designers.
01:20Hello.
01:22As you can see, I have a little surprise for you
01:25waiting on the runway this morning.
01:27Actually, this one is giant.
01:31We all love to look fabulous, but let's be honest,
01:34runway style can often come with runaway prices.
01:38That's why giant tiger is the cat's meow,
01:41because low price is what they do.
01:44Listen, I know the giant tiger.
01:46I know the GT boutique.
01:47The five looks you see here are all from giant tiger.
01:50Each of you will design a high fashion fit that roars couture.
01:55Inspired by one of these five garments,
01:58you will not only be judged on your designs,
02:01you will also be judged by how little you spend to create them.
02:05For me, creating a couture look on a budget is what I do,
02:09but I was safe last week, so I need to step it up.
02:14We have a quilted puffer vest,
02:17a men's plaid shirt,
02:19a long cardigan,
02:21a rhinestone bow sweater,
02:23and a faux fur sherpa jacket.
02:25The puffer vest has so much potential.
02:28You can create some really cool silhouettes.
02:30That wintry cardigan is going to be the hardest.
02:33There are so many motifs.
02:34There's, like, three colors on it.
02:36To be clear, you're not doing it.
02:38You're not using the actual pieces in your looks.
02:41We want you to use your imaginations.
02:43Don't just dream big, dream giant.
02:46I don't usually do couture,
02:48but I'm pretty used to working on a tighter budget
02:50because the money is usually coming out of my pocket,
02:53but at the same time, it is extra pressure
02:55knowing you're the only one without a win.
02:57Next to me are five golden envelopes.
02:59Foster, as the winner of last week's challenge,
03:02you get to pick first. Step on up.
03:05Um, I'm gonna pick this one.
03:07Rhinestone bow sweater.
03:09The whole look on the mannequin
03:11is so similar to my aesthetic.
03:13Very simple and minimalist, but very impactful.
03:16I can do a lot with this.
03:17We've randomly selected the order,
03:19and Charles, you get to pick next.
03:22Okay.
03:23The flannel pleasure.
03:25Wow.
03:26I like this one.
03:27Curtis, you're next.
03:30Puffer vest.
03:31Leland, it's your turn.
03:33The faux fur sherpa jacket.
03:35Oh, my God.
03:37This is so me.
03:39Let's do it.
03:40That means, Maya, you get the long cardigan.
03:43It's definitely not my first choice,
03:45but let's make it happen.
03:48This is a two-day challenge.
03:50You'll have 30 minutes to sketch
03:52before you meet Aurora at the fabric store,
03:54where you'll have up to $350 to spend.
03:58So make sure you keep track of every dollar sent.
04:02$350 is not a lot of money to make a couture look,
04:05but it's not hard for me at all.
04:07I know how to make more inexpensive materials
04:09to feel luxurious.
04:10We want to see big style, small spend.
04:15Affordability and couture, they don't match.
04:18The time it takes to build couture warrants the price for it.
04:22I'm a really fast sewer, but good f***ing luck.
04:27Well, get sketching.
04:28All the best.
04:29Goodbye.
04:33Let's get sketching, guys.
04:34Do it.
04:35Do it.
04:40Definitely doing black and white.
04:42I think it's calling for it.
04:44I think I'm actually gonna go, like, a Sherpa picot.
04:47Maybe make some matching boots out of a Sherpa,
04:49so it's just, like, this full Sherpa moment.
04:51Sherpa is, like, really expensive, too.
04:53I know.
04:54I think I'm gonna have to get creative with it.
04:56They both contradict each other budget and couture.
04:58Not necessarily.
04:59You know?
05:00A unique piece that's handmade and custom-made,
05:03that has no budget.
05:04Yeah.
05:05When workmanship shows,
05:06it doesn't matter what material it's made out of.
05:08Couture, to me, means custom and attention to detail.
05:11I really wanna do, like, a full couture puffed look.
05:17There are so many unique details on here
05:19that feel like they're pretty in line with my aesthetic.
05:21I wanna do a super exaggerated quilted mermaid skirt,
05:25and then a massive hood,
05:26so that it feels very historical in me
05:28and still connects back to my giant tiger inspiration piece.
05:32I need to topstitch my way to the top.
05:34All right, everyone.
05:36Time's up.
05:37Let's go shopping.
05:38All right.
05:39Let's do it.
05:40On a budget.
05:41On a budget.
05:49Are you ready to step into the tiger's den?
05:51Ooh.
05:52Time to get out of your comfort zones.
05:55The judges are wanting to see this week
05:57super high fashion looks,
05:58but also cost-effective.
06:01You're gonna have $350 and 30 minutes
06:04to make this happen.
06:05Okay, go.
06:06Oh, jeez.
06:08Do you have tulle, black tulle?
06:10Almost like this one, but not expensive.
06:13White taffeta, the cheapest you've got.
06:15Where can I find velvet?
06:16Velvet is on this side?
06:17Okay.
06:18Okay, what are you looking for?
06:19Exactly.
06:20You got the flannel look?
06:21I got the flannel look.
06:22Okay.
06:23It's going to be a different direction.
06:24I'm going sexier than it usually would.
06:26I want it to feel like a fully black and white flannel tank top dress
06:30and a skirt that mimics the lines of a collar.
06:33Why are you so obsessed with black and white?
06:35Your look last week with color was so beautiful.
06:37I know.
06:38The judges loved it.
06:39I, well, I was safe last week, too.
06:41They want to see you get out of your comfort zone,
06:43and black and white and stripes is your comfort zone,
06:48and your item was a flannel shirt.
06:50Mm-hmm.
06:51Is there going to be any flannel?
06:52There's going to be no flannel in this.
06:54If I can't find the flannel I want,
06:56I'm going to make the flannel I want.
07:00I'm looking for something that looks like Bella.
07:02A shearling kind of moment.
07:04This one is 19 a yard?
07:06Yes.
07:07Okay.
07:08How much a yard was that?
07:0939.
07:10One yard of your fabric is more expensive than my vest.
07:13My vest was $35.
07:15All right, Foster, I see you with the crystals.
07:20Is this how we're shaking it up this week?
07:22I'm just doing a little sparkle.
07:24Super pumped by one last week.
07:26It's a big deal.
07:27It's just so rewarding to know that I was right
07:30pursuing this career.
07:32I need your opinion.
07:33I'm making a long-sleeved black velvet dress
07:36with rhinestone details.
07:37But you know sparkly is going to be expensive.
07:40I'm a little concerned that $205 for this is a lot.
07:44No, it's not.
07:46Be more concerned about not going home
07:48than like only spending $200.
07:50That's kind of a good strategy though.
07:51Make sure you spend what you need.
07:53Let's do two meters of this.
07:56This one's so sexy.
07:58I love it.
07:59How are we doing with the budget?
08:00All of them are under $40 and some are even under $10.
08:03So I'm just trying to make decisions about where the colors go.
08:06In order for this to be identifiable as the cardigan,
08:09you're going to have to play to winter.
08:11I was thinking it could be a fun lining
08:13so then you're having it glittering out.
08:15Is this you?
08:16I'm trying to force myself into glitter to peek out.
08:18It feels winter.
08:19It does feel winter.
08:20I have never worked with glitter.
08:22So I hope the judges take notice of the fact
08:24that I'm doing something different.
08:26I'm really thinking.
08:31What's a goodie?
08:32Goodie.
08:33So I got $331.
08:34Hustle, hustle.
08:35Let's go.
08:36$215.
08:37$261.
08:38Okay.
08:39Perfect.
08:40Time is up.
08:41All right, designers.
08:42I'll see you back at the workroom.
08:50Here we are.
08:51Hey.
08:52Oh.
08:53Hello.
08:54Hello, puffer vest.
08:55This is where I am.
09:02There's literally five of us in this room right now.
09:05Crazy, eh?
09:06Final five.
09:07Oh, my God.
09:08I can't believe we're here after the last elimination.
09:12It was really, really jarring and so upsetting
09:15to hear that both Brom and Kat were going home
09:17and I was the only one safe.
09:19Last week, the judges had words to say to me.
09:21I was getting maybe comic book character.
09:23Taste-wise to us, it was a little cheap.
09:26I can recognize that you're right, and I listened to them.
09:29So this week, I'm really challenging myself.
09:31I don't want it to look too much.
09:34I want it to just be tasteful
09:36and still have those elements of fun, but couture.
09:41Yes, bitch.
09:43Yeah, I just patterned the, like, quickest mermaid of my life.
09:46And I'm dreading the quilting that's in front of me.
09:49I have found the perfect off-white taffeta
09:52for this puffer-inspired look,
09:54and I grabbed eight yards of it.
09:56Even though the look is all white,
09:58I am convinced the judges will notice
10:00all of the intricate detail building this shape alone.
10:03Couture is all about skill, precision, and your artistic vision.
10:07So if you're relying on multiple fabrics to communicate that...
10:14Couldn't it be me?
10:15I think there's nothing I've done in this competition that I've done before.
10:20It feels great being back in the top.
10:22It feels right, finally.
10:24The judges like my design.
10:26I really need to keep this momentum going.
10:28How are you translating the knit?
10:30I decided to go away from the knit
10:32and think about, like, what does the knit represent?
10:34It's definitely giving winter,
10:36and it brings to mind 1920s silhouettes.
10:39I love being inspired by history,
10:41so I'm gonna be pulling from...
10:43Ready for it?
10:44Anastasia.
10:45I'm making a princess-inspired coat
10:49with gloves, and hiding underneath will be a dress.
10:53I might do the gloves out of the red polka dots.
10:57I was looking at these
10:58and thinking that the polka dots kind of connect to that,
11:01you know?
11:02Yeah.
11:03But look at this glitter.
11:04Oh, my God. I love this for you.
11:06I know. Crazy.
11:07They won't see it coming.
11:10I'm almost at my parents.
11:12Look at this pleated shirt thing.
11:14Sheerling.
11:15Ooh.
11:16It's gonna be cool. It is cool.
11:18Hi, designers.
11:20Hey.
11:21It is feeling so empty in here.
11:24It's gonna be great.
11:25Excited to see what you're all up to.
11:30What's that? The jacket?
11:32You are nothing if not fat.
11:34Yes!
11:35I really want to steer away from this big, oversized, opulent coat.
11:39I worry that maybe that's a little too close
11:41to my cashmere challenge.
11:42Yeah.
11:43So my thought process here was to maybe tap into another type of coat.
11:47Why not, like, a rain coat moment out of a shearling material?
11:50Yeah.
11:51I kind of fell in love with doing this pleating with the shearlings,
11:54giving it a really expensive texture,
11:56and then I'm gonna be lining everything in the brown piping,
11:59and then I would love to make some thigh-high boot cover
12:02out of the shearling.
12:03Oh, wow. So the whole look is shearling.
12:05It's entirely gonna be shearling.
12:07Push it to another level and make it high fashion and not costume.
12:10I love it, and that's the challenge.
12:12That's my hope and goal.
12:13This week, we're gonna take a break from costume.
12:15This is gonna be high fashion.
12:17I'm really confident in this design,
12:19and I think the judges will see that.
12:21It would be incredible to win.
12:22We're gonna make this one memorable.
12:24Of course. You're right.
12:25Okay.
12:26Hi.
12:35Hi, Aurora.
12:36How is it going?
12:37I made progress.
12:38How are we gonna make this black dress pop?
12:41So the things that I pick up from this are minimalism and luxury.
12:44So I want her to play around those elements.
12:46I am sort of, like, manipulating her body a little bit.
12:49Here?
12:50I just wanted to give her Jessica Rabbit.
12:52Oh, great.
12:53I really feel like this look is couture.
12:55It's about details.
12:57It's about construction.
12:58Okay.
12:59I think what was so great about last week
13:01is you took something that you're really good at,
13:03which is tailoring, and you pushed it to another level,
13:06and you made it unexpected.
13:08But a black velvet dress can also be predictable.
13:13My biggest struggle is perhaps not doing enough,
13:17and so I really am trying to push myself
13:20to do things that are more risky,
13:22things that are more interesting.
13:24You proved yourself last week.
13:26The judges were obsessed.
13:27So let's focus on some drama, you know?
13:35All right, designers.
13:36There's only five of you left,
13:38and now more than ever,
13:40everyone has to put their best foot forward.
13:44You have an hour left.
13:46I'm gonna see you all tomorrow.
13:49Thank you, Aurora.
13:50Thank you, Aurora.
13:57I feel like I'm working slow, but I'm not.
13:59Pattern making took a long time today.
14:01My love for pattern making
14:02comes from my couture background.
14:05I worked in London and Dubai,
14:07and I didn't have experiences
14:08that aren't always positive,
14:10but they've taught me a lot of resilience.
14:12Life isn't perfect.
14:13You're never gonna get exactly what you want.
14:15This tattoo represents, like, seam lines,
14:18and the reason why it's disjointed
14:20is because seams break, thread breaks,
14:22and you just keep on going on,
14:24so it's a reminder for me
14:26to always embrace the imperfections in life.
14:29It makes you really strong though, I will say.
14:35Wait a minute left!
14:36Wait a minute left!
14:37Oh, my God.
14:49All right, guys.
14:50Time's up.
14:51Let's go home for the night.
14:52Whoo!
14:55Good morning!
14:56Let's do it!
14:57Whoo!
14:58I am fully confident in my design.
14:59It's really cheeky.
15:00It's a little bit fun.
15:01It's a nod to street wear
15:02that the judges haven't seen from me yet.
15:03I definitely have a reputation for making things
15:06a little bit twisted, a little bit unexpected,
15:08so close to being perfect
15:09and then veering off a little bit to the side.
15:12School wasn't always the easiest thing for me,
15:14being the obviously queer child running around
15:16in the early 2000s.
15:17I was bullied for a long time.
15:19Not only am I here representing myself,
15:21but I'm representing an entire other community
15:23of people that stand behind me.
15:24All of the weird things that I'm being here
15:25are the people that stand behind me.
15:26All of the weird things that I'm being here
15:27are the people that stand behind me.
15:28It's really fun.
15:29It's a nod to street wear that the judges
15:30haven't seen from me yet.
15:31I definitely have a reputation for making things
15:33a little bit twisted, a little bit unexpected,
15:35so close to being perfect
15:37and then veering off a little bit to the side.
15:39School wasn't always the easiest thing for me,
15:42being the obviously queer child running around
15:43all of the weird queer fashion kids
15:45that think they're alone and ostracized.
15:48You're not alone.
15:49One of them is sitting right here
15:51and I think I'm doing pretty good.
15:54The vest is complete.
15:58So how are you guys feeling with the models
16:00coming in like no time?
16:02I just want to get this skirt on her
16:04so she can figure out how to move in it.
16:06Uh, it's everything's in pieces.
16:08Everyone's pieces are coming together very fast
16:11and it's scary looking around the room
16:13when I only have patterns.
16:15It's a lot to do, as always.
16:17It's looking incredible so far.
16:19It's the scary part because it's just in pieces right now.
16:22All that line matching, all of those seams,
16:24it's not easy to do it in that short amount of time.
16:27For me, that's couture.
16:29I just have to sew a bunch of lines everywhere.
16:32I know you're making the fabric.
16:33So, that's what I'm doing.
16:35Good morning, designers.
16:37Hey, good morning.
16:38Looks like there's a lot going on in here.
16:41Just thought I would check in,
16:43see how things are progressing.
16:49Hey, Laura.
16:50Hi.
16:51You know what I am appreciating?
16:53This shape that you have,
16:55that shape's really banging,
16:57and it's a Maya version of a cardigan.
16:59Mm-hmm.
17:00But starting to feel a little chaotic.
17:02This is throwing me,
17:05especially in relationship to this.
17:08I struggle with this fabric.
17:10I think you may have to axe the dress.
17:14You could just do a mini dress.
17:16Ooh, I agree.
17:19It's flashing with the sparkles,
17:20but it's time-consuming to make another dress.
17:23I would just focus on making this outerwear piece
17:26really extraordinary.
17:28Yeah.
17:29However, at the end of the day,
17:30there's no excuses for anything.
17:32It's what's on the runway.
17:33So, we're gonna make it happen.
17:36Just focus on making this great.
17:38Yeah.
17:39Yeah.
17:47You must be sewing more padding.
17:49Yeah, just, um, I'm doing the shoulders now, so...
17:52Do you need me to grab you more padding?
17:54Um...
17:56Thank you, Laura.
17:57I think all of this you need.
18:02I think you should just put it all in.
18:04Once the model comes,
18:05we're just gonna stuff her
18:07like a Thanksgiving turkey.
18:09Come on in, model!
18:14Hello!
18:15Hi!
18:16Hi!
18:17Good.
18:18How are you?
18:19How are you?
18:20This is, like, what I have for you right now.
18:23Hi, Hailey.
18:24Leland.
18:25Love to meet you.
18:26Oh!
18:27Oh, you have to see it.
18:29You're going to guess.
18:31Yes.
18:32Okay.
18:33I'm just gonna take one measurement.
18:35Loving this drama.
18:37You think it's good?
18:38I think it's good.
18:39I have to tell you, I want to 10X the amount of fill.
18:42Like this.
18:43Like...
18:45Aurora is so greedy.
18:47I have created a massive, fully boned mermaid skirt,
18:51and she wants more.
18:53Well, I'll give you more.
18:54I'm loving where this is going.
18:57I just think you have to pump it up.
18:58I'm gonna have to figure out what I'm gonna do
19:00about this and the shoulders, but yeah.
19:04Did you make the internal structure?
19:06I did, but I just haven't cinched her in.
19:08Okay.
19:09Yeah.
19:10Hourglass it out.
19:11Hourglass it out.
19:12Yeah, yeah.
19:13Black dresses are hard because they can either be incredibly striking
19:19or entirely forgettable.
19:21Mm-hmm.
19:22Is there a world where we cut it scandalously low there?
19:25Opening the back?
19:26Yes.
19:27I know, Aurora, you want me to show some skin,
19:29but do you need to show some skin to be sexy?
19:34The answer's no.
19:36Sometimes simple is impactful.
19:37You're gonna want to play with this as well.
19:39Yeah.
19:40We know you can do elegance.
19:41Yeah.
19:42We need drama.
19:43Drama!
19:44Drama.
19:45I will give you drama.
19:46Bear with me while I safety pin.
19:47She glittery!
19:48It's gonna give a little Mary J. Bly,
19:50just gonna give like a little J. Lo, you know?
19:52It's falling exactly where it needs to fall.
19:54Hey, Charles.
19:55So far, I think it's a very cool idea,
19:58but shape-wise, it feels a little reminiscent of last week
20:02based on the actual cut of the garment.
20:06It doesn't feel as surprising.
20:08I'm just, I'm, I'm, I'm just taken aback by this
20:12because even though I've explored volume in numerous ways,
20:15it's always been flattering.
20:16It's always been different.
20:17Looking at your flannel,
20:19Mm-hmm.
20:20And I'm looking at this dress,
20:21and I'm wondering if the judges are gonna be able
20:24to connect it to the flannel.
20:25Mm-hmm.
20:26The only things that pop out to me are the lines.
20:28And so my design is literally about the lines.
20:31So if there's any way to keep pushing yourself,
20:34we'd just love to see it.
20:35I don't feel like I'm being comfortable.
20:37I've been taking risks.
20:38I think it's going to translate quite well.
20:40So I'm sticking to my gut, and I'm going for it.
20:44I love it.
20:45Yeah.
20:46All right, designers.
20:47That's it with your models.
20:49Bye.
20:50You're incredible.
20:51See tomorrow.
20:52I'll be tomorrow.
20:53I can't wait.
20:54I'm so excited.
20:55Bye.
20:56Remember, this is cost-friendly, couture-inspired, runway ready.
21:00You're the final five.
21:01Show us why on the runway.
21:03All right?
21:04Bye.
21:05Bye, Laura.
21:06Good luck.
21:07You guys, we're like final five.
21:08We made it through all the trials and tribulations.
21:10We've been through a lot together.
21:11When this is all over,
21:12who are you guys most excited to see?
21:14My mom.
21:15Aww.
21:16I'm just excited to see, like,
21:17my Chinese family and stuff, you know?
21:18Yeah.
21:19Yeah.
21:20The people at the mall.
21:21Oh, my God, I'm so excited to go back to the mall.
21:23This past year,
21:24I was able to open up my own storefront in Chinatown.
21:27I walk up to it some days,
21:29and, like, I'll cry because of how proud I am
21:31that I did that, you know?
21:33And, like, we're...
21:34I'm a poor kid from Chinatown,
21:35and now I'm, like, in Chinatown living my dream.
21:39Last week, I was in the bottom,
21:41so this week, I really feel like I gotta prove myself.
21:43I'm gonna make some more belts.
21:44No handbags?
21:45I love a handbag with an outfit.
21:49I mean, like, that's a hood.
21:54Indeed, a hood it is.
21:59Five minutes, designers!
22:01I wish there was more time.
22:05Once again, the main issue is time management,
22:08and I'm getting stressed out.
22:09I don't usually do glitter, glitz,
22:12or even fabrics like this,
22:14but I want to win.
22:29It is runway day,
22:33and we've got a lot to get done.
22:35My skirt has yet to be finished,
22:37and I still have to accentuate these hips
22:39with those detached hoods
22:40to max out the impact of this look.
22:43I have to get the hem done on this skirt.
22:46That's a big hem.
22:48Looking around the room,
22:49these shapes are more on the subdued side,
22:53especially for a couture challenge,
22:55so I'm hoping this massive skirt
22:57helps me stand out later today on that runway.
22:59I still have to add more stuffing to this beast.
23:02What do you think about this?
23:03Ooh, I like that a lot.
23:05Yeah.
23:06I'm gonna remove these other ones and see.
23:08I decided to scrap the rhinestone sparkle.
23:11The Demonte detailing just looks cheap.
23:14I'll do one here so this makes sense.
23:16Yeah.
23:17And then a tiny one just in the front.
23:19And I think that's a very elegant take on the bow.
23:22Good morning, designers.
23:23Good morning.
23:24Good morning.
23:25I hope you all are ready for your models.
23:27Oh, yeah.
23:28Good morning, models.
23:30Good morning.
23:31Hey, good morning.
23:33I can't wait for you to try this on.
23:35All right, how are we feeling this morning?
23:37Feeling good.
23:38I remade the dress.
23:40Okay.
23:41Um, is this supposed to be straight?
23:44Yes, like that.
23:45Okay.
23:46And then this goes like this.
23:48So I just want to make sure I'm understanding
23:51what the shape is supposed to be.
23:53Yeah.
23:54Because this has to really be, like, perfect.
23:56It looks messy.
23:58I am very stressed.
24:00There's still so much to do,
24:01but I just want to really show the judges
24:03the construction and attention to detail
24:06I can really do.
24:07Just keep perfecting this.
24:09Yeah.
24:11Ugh.
24:12So much work.
24:13This is so cool.
24:15It's sexy on a budget.
24:17I mean, less fabric.
24:18It makes sense.
24:19All right, let's unpin you.
24:20Foster.
24:21This zipper, is there any way to cover it?
24:23You really don't like the zipper?
24:24No, I think the zipper's really competing with the bows.
24:27I just wanted a break in the dress.
24:29The break in the dress should be her skin.
24:31We've already spoken about that.
24:32Aurora, I am not snipping the back of this dress.
24:36This is sexy to me.
24:38I am God smacked right now.
24:41This is so fun.
24:43And I was thinking maybe gloves, but I wouldn't honestly.
24:46Oh my God, Mr. Edit?
24:48Mrs. Edit, if you're nasty.
24:50All right, when you're ready, it's time to take your models to the L'Oreal Paris Glam Room.
25:01So we're thinking for the makeup, we'll do like a smoky eye and a luscious lip.
25:05Oh, I love that.
25:06So I have infallible Plump Ambition Lip Oil.
25:10It's gonna give her this soft plump naturally.
25:12She'll feel a bit of this tingle as it works its magic.
25:16I'm making a purse in the next 10 minutes.
25:19I told you it would happen.
25:21I told you.
25:22I was like, what about a purse?
25:24And look, now there's a purse.
25:33Yay? Nay?
25:34I can't.
25:35I can't right now.
25:36I'm sorry.
25:37All right, designers.
25:38Time is up.
25:39Start heading to the runway.
25:45This is it.
25:46I hope the judges like my look.
25:48I really want to make it to the finale.
25:50But someone will have to go and there's no more fat to trim.
25:53We are all taking risks that I don't think we would have taken a couple of challenges ago.
25:58The stakes are high.
25:59All right, designers.
26:00It's runway time.
26:01Let's do this.
26:02Yay.
26:03Let's go.
26:04Let's go.
26:05Woo.
26:06We did it.
26:24Hello, designers.
26:25Hey.
26:26Hello.
26:27This week, you're tasked with creating a look that was couture-inspired and cost-conscious.
26:33Giant tiger style.
26:35We wanted you to dream big on a budget.
26:39Say hello to your judges.
26:41Fashion designer, Spencer Badu.
26:43Hey, designers.
26:44Hey.
26:45Fashion journalist, Jeannie Becker.
26:47I feel like giving you all a group hug.
26:52Someone's missing.
26:54Where's our guest, Josh?
26:55No way.
26:56Please welcome, celebrated CFDA designer, mentor, producer, and my ride or die, the one and
27:08only...
27:09Oh, my God.
27:10Christian Siriano!
27:11No way!
27:12Yay!
27:13No way!
27:14Yay!
27:15No way!
27:16Yay!
27:17Oh, my God.
27:18I could piss my pants right now.
27:21Yay!
27:22That was how it's done.
27:23I'll walk for you.
27:25But I can't.
27:26Yay!
27:27But I'll be here for you.
27:28Woo!
27:29Christian Siriano is here.
27:30I've always looked up to him.
27:32I've always looked up to him.
27:33I'm so excited.
27:34I'm so nervous.
27:35The pressure's increased because he knows what's going on here.
27:39He's done it.
27:40Please be nice, Christian.
27:42Please.
27:43Should we get this show started?
27:45Yes!
27:46Yes!
27:47Let's do it.
27:55The coat looks incredible.
27:56The skirt is flouncing, is bouncing as she's taking each step.
28:00So much.
28:02This isn't a costume!
28:04And the full look is perfect.
28:08My look is everything I wanted to say.
28:16It's boyfriend flannel meets revenge dress.
28:19I love all the cutouts, the open back, how it feels young, fresh.
28:24It is not about how much you spend.
28:26It's about how you style it, how you feel in it.
28:29And that is exactly what I did.
28:31This is couture.
28:32It's gorgeous.
28:38This is a full lined coat.
28:41It feels wearable, but also couture and elevated.
28:46And I think it represents the inspiration piece well,
28:49without being too literal.
28:51I'm really happy with the overall design of the look.
28:58She looks ethereal.
29:00This look is couture.
29:02I love the bows on the sleeves.
29:05It feels rich.
29:06This is everything my brand is about.
29:08And I hope that I don't think I am playing it safe.
29:18The silhouette, it's an architectural dream.
29:21And it was a huge undertaking.
29:23She looks like a wedge on the right.
29:26The hoods on the hips are doing exactly what I wanted them to do.
29:29I love a monochromatic look.
29:32This looks priceless.
29:38Aww.
29:39Let's all do it, too.
29:44Designers, please step up to the runway.
29:46There are only five of you left.
29:52And tonight, one of you will be the winner.
29:56And one of you will be out.
29:58We'd like to speak to each one of you about your designs.
30:01Let's start with one of our top scores of tonight.
30:04Curtis, stretching a dollar has never looked so good.
30:07The Giant Tiger inspiration piece that I got was the off-white puffer vest.
30:10And to create this couture look, I spent $212.
30:14I wanted to find one fabric and showcase my technique and my skill.
30:15And I'm really happy with the way it turned out.
30:17To do a monochromatic look that is really powerful is really hard to do.
30:19And it looks way more than $200.
30:21That means a lot coming from you.
30:22So thank you so much.
30:23Thank you so much.
30:24This was artistry to me of the highest order.
30:25It's experimental.
30:26It's everything that fashion forward couture should be.
30:27There's so much detail.
30:28My favorite color is really good.
30:29And I'm really happy with this couture look.
30:30I spent $212.
30:31I wanted to find one fabric and showcase my technique and my skill.
30:32And I'm really happy with the way it turned out.
30:33To do a monochromatic look that is really powerful is really hard to do.
30:38And it looks way more than $200.
30:41That means a lot coming from you.
30:42So thank you so much.
30:43This was artistry to me of the highest order.
30:46It's experimental.
30:47It's everything that fashion forward couture should be.
30:52There's so much detail.
30:53My favorite part is the hood.
30:55The little spikes on the top.
30:57And I just love how you make everything a little punk when you can.
31:00I wish it was a little more puffy in it.
31:02Just to give a little of that exaggeration.
31:04But I'm really impressed with this.
31:06Thank you, Curtis.
31:08Let's bring out one of our least favorite looks of the night.
31:14Foster.
31:15This looked in Roar kind of meowed.
31:17It's very safe.
31:18I wanted to embody the inspiration piece from Giant Tiger.
31:21I wanted to keep the idea of timelessness, simplicity and elegance.
31:26And my look cost $261.
31:30I think you really know who you are.
31:33You are all about elegance and you know how to deliver it.
31:36But as it came down the runway, it just didn't really inspire me because it seemed like a dress that I'd seen many, many, many times before.
31:45It's a basic velvet tube dress.
31:47Like anybody, my intern could have made that in 20 minutes.
31:50It's just not enough.
31:51One of the things that grabbed my attention maybe not in the best way was the zipper in the back.
31:56So I went for the silver zipper because I thought the zipper would play on the bow.
32:01You don't like that zipper. There's no way.
32:03Turn around really quick.
32:04That bubbly, bumpy silver zipper down the back.
32:08You don't like that zipper. Get out of here.
32:11I actually think the bows are quite interesting.
32:14They're really beautiful how you did them.
32:16But I think they could have been so much more.
32:18Thank you, Foster.
32:20This next look is one of our favorites.
32:23Hey.
32:25Leland, you gave his tiger, not kitten.
32:30I spent $3.30, but only because the shearling was so expensive to get.
32:34When we see a shearling coat, there's usually not much detail because the fabric itself is so difficult to work with.
32:40And I challenged myself to actually pleat it and give it some structure to really give it couture and high fashion.
32:47Every penny wasn't wasted.
32:49That bag is great. The shoes are great.
32:52Had you not had those things, I think it wouldn't have been as successful.
32:55If I was going to hit the top of my budget, I really wanted to make sure I could give the customer as much as they could have.
33:00I was like, you know, it's Mariah in Aspen. She got out of the car. Everyone's following her around.
33:06And I just love that feeling right away. Like I envisioned someone wearing it.
33:10All the pieces were fantastic. Fun and sassy. The whole thing, I'm just, kudos.
33:17I love the detail. I love the line play. The trim is like chef's kiss.
33:22This is great. Good job, Leland.
33:23Thank you so much. I really appreciate it, you guys.
33:25The next design received one of the low scores.
33:28Maya, I spent $283. My inspiration piece was the long cardigan with the snowflakes and the polka dots and the stripes.
33:41It was just too many elements. It felt heavy. It looked rushed. And I could see that all on the runway.
33:47The hardest part of this challenge for me was finding the fabrics. I don't usually use sparkly things.
33:53If you don't use glitter fabric, then why did you pick it?
33:58I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone. And when I saw this fabric, it really spoke to the old princess movie animations.
34:07Hmm. There's always such poetry to what you do. And I totally got the Snow Queen idea. Just the execution lacked something.
34:17I don't think the front looks great. It doesn't really close, but does it close? So I'm just very confused.
34:23I think for this, you know, you missed the mark.
34:25I do know that I could have done something better. Thank you, Maya.
34:28Thank you so much.
34:30And our final look of the night.
34:32So it cost $267. The piece I got was a flannel plaid shirt. I wanted to take something sexy from a casual piece.
34:44I really like this look. You use the springboard of that plaid flannel shirt that was just so unassuming and so basic and so comfortable and you took it to a fantasy level.
34:55I really see the vision. I love the shoulders. There's something very strong about it. And the cutout's sexy. I was really impressed by it.
35:02Thank you so much.
35:03What's cool about this is that it's just kind of a modern silhouette, but you're missing some plaid elements though, I will say.
35:10The connection is a bit off, but I still think it's really interesting. And I think a lot of young, cool actresses would wear this. That's what I like about it.
35:18But the inspiration should be somewhat there. And that's the problem. Not one of my favorites. I just don't see flannel and I don't feel flannel.
35:27I enjoy this look.
35:30Thank you, designers. We have some very difficult decisions to make.
35:36Jeannia, you're a little emotional right now.
35:38I'm emotional about all of these kids. I call you kids. I'm just so proud of all of you and you're on a path and you've got a clear vision.
35:47Hi.
35:48Thank you, Jeanne.
35:49Thank you, Jeanne.
35:52You've given us a lot to think about and you can all leave the runway. Thank you.
36:01Well, that was a divisive one.
36:04What a time.
36:05Fun.
36:09Alright, let's talk about our favorite and not so favorite looks of the night, Curtis and Leland. I love both of these eyes.
36:16But you've got to give Charles' credit. That was a beautiful dress.
36:20Oh, I like the plaid look. I did like that.
36:23I loved all three, too.
36:25I know, Coco, but I thought it was kind of fabulous.
36:27I don't know what you were seeing.
36:30You're not on the top, too.
36:31I think if the plaid was really done perfectly.
36:33If it was done perfectly.
36:34Yeah, I know.
36:35But it wasn't.
36:36If you're gonna do flannel, go for it.
36:37He went on some other material and put some lines on it.
36:39It was like, that's flannel.
36:40Here's the thing.
36:41We have Curtis, who spent the least amount of all the designers.
36:45And then you have Leland, who spent the most of all the designs.
36:48So those are our top two.
36:49And what are we gonna do?
36:50We're gonna go with a superior look.
36:53I really did like Curtis, the parka couture moment.
36:57I like the weirdness of it.
36:59The idea is a bit off.
37:01I really appreciate the imagination.
37:03It felt like something that, you know, we'd see in a couture show.
37:07But Leland's oozed attitude.
37:09I know the struggles that he's probably had trying to not make it too costumey.
37:14He really showed that he knows how to make beautiful garments.
37:18The detail that he put and the work that went into that shearling look was so beautiful.
37:23I agree.
37:24I love that.
37:25Yes, he spent a significant amount of money, but we got a bag.
37:28We got a pair of shoes and we got a coat.
37:30I think he did the budget justice.
37:32All right.
37:33But who do we think should go home tonight?
37:35For me, I think it's between Foster and Maya.
37:38Foster, very safe.
37:39And that doesn't keep you in this competition.
37:41The zipper in the back sadly ruined it for me because it was buckling.
37:45It was the only thing you could really like notice that was a different detail.
37:48And like why put a metal zipper in a black velvet gown?
37:50Like that is insane.
37:51And then we had Maya.
37:53I mean, this girl loves the story.
37:55It's like the snow queen.
37:57She didn't make it happen for me.
37:58I think she got lost.
38:00She just really wasn't inspired by that sweater at all.
38:03She wasn't.
38:04I think at this point in the competition, execution really matters a lot.
38:10I think we made our decisions.
38:12Let's bring out the designers.
38:14You all created unique and imaginative looks while keeping things fiercely frugal.
38:23Only one of you will be the winner and one of you will be out.
38:29Charles, you are in and you can leave the runway.
38:34Curtis and Leland, tonight's winner didn't just deliver a look.
38:43They delivered a whole lifestyle.
38:46The winner of this challenge is...
38:52Leland.
38:53Yes!
38:54Yes!
38:55Yes!
38:56I can't believe that shearling outfit came through.
39:00And the fact that Christian Siriano loved it too.
39:03In 10 years, if I can be the Christian Siriano of Canada, it would mean everything.
39:08And to help you keep dreaming big, Giant Tiger is rewarding you with $5,000 cash.
39:14Congratulations.
39:15Thank you so much, you guys.
39:16I really appreciate it.
39:17Curtis, you're still in.
39:18You can both leave the runway.
39:20Guess what?
39:21Who won?
39:22Guess.
39:23Well done.
39:24Yay!
39:25I'm literally so happy.
39:26Maybe I'm not just a costume designer.
39:29Maybe I'm a designer.
39:31And it makes me really excited for what's to come.
39:46Maybe what's to come is a faux fur shearling coat.
39:50Maya and Foster, you both took a leap.
39:55Unfortunately, one of you will be out.
40:00Maya, we know you have vision, but tonight your outfit lacked focus.
40:07Foster, at this point in the competition, we need you to get loud.
40:17Maya, I'm sorry, but you are out.
40:24Thank you, judges.
40:26Foster, you're still in and you can leave the runway.
40:30Thank you so much.
40:33Oh!
40:35We're so proud of you.
40:36Bring it in.
40:37I was able to do enough.
40:40Rough to you.
40:41It was a really tough week.
40:43I'm glad I have another chance.
40:45I'm going to have to fight.
40:46Maya, we see your vision.
40:49We know you're a storyteller.
40:52And we can't wait to see where the next chapter holds.
40:54Thank you for the opportunity.
40:56I'm still really proud of myself.
40:58We should be.
40:59Come here.
41:00You've got a bright future ahead of you, darling.
41:05Well, Dan.
41:06Hey.
41:07Hi.
41:08How are you feeling?
41:09How do you think?
41:10I just want you to know, like, we are so proud of you no matter what, okay?
41:23You're going to be a superstar after this.
41:24For sure.
41:25Thanks, guys.
41:26Maya, I think you have so much vision.
41:33You are at the very beginning of your career.
41:38And we will continue to see you.
41:42I think it's time to say goodbye to everyone.
41:45What?
41:47I didn't think it was going to be me.
41:48Right now, I'm just disappointed in myself that I didn't do better.
41:52But I still think that everything I did screams me.
41:58And that I never compromised myself for what I love to do.
42:02And I had so much fun the whole time.
42:05My last kisses to all of you.
42:07I'm still in progress.
42:09I still have so much to learn.
42:11And I hope that this leads to the opportunities that can open a world that I don't even know exists.
42:17Next time on Project Runway Canada.
42:24Cheers to Final Four.
42:26Just one more challenge that's in the way.
42:29This is the dream for any designer.
42:32This is a huge risk, but I'm pushing myself to my absolute limit.
42:36I just hope this piece is taking me to the finale.
42:39Tonight will be someone's final chapter.
42:42Three of you will be in, and one of you will be out.
42:45We'll be out.
42:46We'll be out.
42:47We'll be out.
42:52We'll be out.
42:53We'll be out.
42:54We'll be out.
42:55We'll be out.
