43:42But for those of you who don't know it, here's the short version.
43:46My parents were both junior hockey coaches, and they were hit by a drunk driver when I was
43:5512 years old.
43:57Mercifully for them, they died instantly.
44:00Mercifully for me, the St. Thomas scholarships existed.
44:04I didn't have anybody else to help me.
44:09I had a lot of memories, a love of hockey, and a huge hole in my heart.
44:16St. Thomas filled it with hope.
44:20The hope of a new family.
44:23Things weren't always easy.
44:25You know, they never are for anybody.
44:27But in hockey, I found what I was missing.
44:32First at my high school, then later at college, and now here with the admirals.
44:36And I never looked back, because I never had to.
44:44The family I craved, the family that I needed, that I still need today, hockey gave it to me.
44:53And St. Thomas gave me hockey.
44:57So from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you all for being here tonight, and for supporting
45:02this cause, because it's not just a scholarship, it's everything that comes with it.
