Featuring Glacier, Gigi Dolin and a wrestler who, erm, wasn't particularly "Elite"...
Transcript
00:00As of me saying these words, a lot of people have worked for AEW.
00:03This sends the internet into meltdown because for some reason,
00:06some folk can't handle individuals getting a job.
00:10We just ignore about that and we do the positive thumb of love.
00:14All Elite Wrestling has been around for a few years now though,
00:17to the point now when you bring up certain wrestlers and you tell some other fan,
00:22they look at you like, well, that can't possibly be true because it doesn't make any sense.
00:26But yes, that is what we're going to talk about today.
00:28So hello, my name is Simon Miller.
00:30Welcome to WhatCulturalWrestling.
00:31Please hit the subscribe button and like and do all that kind of craziness.
00:35And this is 10 wrestlers you totally forgot worked for AEW.
00:38Number 10, Gigi Dolan.
00:40Right now, Gigi Dolan is a top act over in NXT 2.0.
00:44I mean, not only is she a tag team champion, as I've been saying these words,
00:48but she is in the dominant group Toxic Attraction.
00:50And if you are familiar with her work, you know she can go.
00:54And while she was never properly signed to AEW,
00:56she did appear there under her name Priscilla Kelly,
00:59where she took on Britt Baker when AEW was on Chris Jericho's boat.
01:04Now, she did lose to Britt Baker here.
01:07And after the fact, everybody was talking about the fact that Baker had turned heel
01:10after she had gone,
01:10Ha ha, Terry Schiavone, you nothing but a barista.
01:13But the fact is a fact.
01:14The thing is, given that she is so young,
01:16there's every single chance that one day she may return to AEW.
01:20I mean, I doubt they would talk about that.
01:23I'm just throwing this out there.
01:25Number 9, Diamond Dallas Page.
01:26This almost feels like we dreamt it today.
01:29But yes, a couple of years ago,
01:31DDP did indeed appear in AEW.
01:35He first popped up on the 23rd of October 2019 episode of Dynamite
01:38to help out Cody Rhodes,
01:40who at the time was entangled in a wicked web with the inner circle.
01:43Given how close he was to Dusty Rhodes,
01:45this made perfect sense about why he would help his son.
01:48And then he came back to All Elite Wrestling
01:50when MJF won the first ever diamond ring
01:53in order to give him the piece of jewelry.
01:55However, that did not go very well.
01:58So if you can believe it,
02:00he actually entered a match
02:01where he took on Maxwell Jacob Friedman, the Butcher and the Blade.
02:04This happened at Bash at the Beach
02:06as he teamed up with QT Martial and Dustin Rhodes.
02:09And obviously they did lose,
02:10but we still got to see one last diamond cutter.
02:13I'm not going to pretend otherwise.
02:16I popped crazy for this
02:17because who doesn't love DDP?
02:19Number eight, Cameron.
02:20This one was so out of nowhere.
02:22Maybe it was brought forward by the fact
02:24that we were in the middle of a global pandemic.
02:26So AEW felt like they should continue
02:28to throw new ideas at the wall.
02:30But we did have this women's tag team cup thing on YouTube.
02:34And yes, on one of the teams was Cameron.
02:37She teamed with Nyla Rose under her real name, Ariana Andrew.
02:41And the former functodactyl
02:42actually did have a little bit of a story here
02:44because Nyla was like,
02:45I want to team with her.
02:47She's probably going to make me lose.
02:48Since then, Ariana too,
02:49has also returned to WWE in the Royal Rumble.
02:53This is pretty good
02:54because she essentially became a meme for a while.
02:56Because if you remember,
02:57her first taste of wrestling wasn't tough enough
02:59where she told Stone Cold Steve Austin
03:02her favorite match ever
03:03was Melina versus Alicia Fox.
03:06Steve Austin then broke down.
03:08I tell you,
03:09it was a great time to be alive.
03:11But 7 Callisto.
03:12When FTR were future with the Lucha Brothers,
03:14they decided it would be really funny
03:16if they started dressing up as Luchadors
03:18and kind of doing the Lucha style.
03:20As ever, when it comes to Cash and Dax,
03:22they took all of this and they smashed it.
03:24To try and further this too,
03:26Tony Stark booked them against Aerostar
03:28and Samurai Del Sol
03:29on November 2021 episode of Dynamite,
03:32which meant, yes,
03:33here was Callisto from WWE
03:35walking towards an AEW ring.
03:37As it turned out,
03:38this would be a one and done
03:39because even though he did fine
03:40when it came to the wrestling,
03:42there was a lot of controversy
03:43on social media beforehand.
03:45It certainly felt like
03:47he pissed the wrong people off.
03:49So if I was a betting man,
03:50which I'm not
03:50because you should use your money wisely,
03:53I think we're going to see him back.
03:54Number six, Colin Delaney.
03:56Colin Delaney is essentially
03:57the modern day Barry Horowitz.
04:00If you don't know who Horowitz is,
04:01just jump back to the 80s or 90s
04:03and you will see him in squash match
04:04after squash match after squash match.
04:06Now, he's always the guy being beaten,
04:09but for some reason,
04:10he just did it so well.
04:11He patted himself on the back.
04:13I love Baz.
04:14Colin had this role in WWE CW
04:16as well as a ton of other promotions
04:18and basically became one of the guys
04:19you wanted to reach out to
04:21if you just needed to bring somebody in
04:23to have a decent match.
04:24Hence why eventually AEW went,
04:26well, we can do that too.
04:28This saw him have losing efforts
04:29against the likes of Eddie Kingston and Wardlow
04:31and he even teamed with Sean Spears
04:33as Spears was doing his whole,
04:35oh my gosh,
04:35I need to find a tag team partner.
04:37And as ever,
04:38this was really entertaining
04:39because it was essentially
04:41the chairman just yelling at Colin
04:42like he was a piece of trash.
04:43The roster has grown so much,
04:44I don't think we'll see Colin back
04:46anytime soon.
04:47But when you do go over his career,
04:49given that not everybody
04:50can be a world champion,
04:52well, ironically,
04:53we should give him a pout on the back.
04:54Number five, Crowbar.
04:56Go back and watch WCW
04:58from the year 2000s
04:59and you will realize
05:00this is an absolutely dreadful wrestling product
05:03and it's no surprise that it died.
05:05However,
05:05there were a few spotlights in the darkness,
05:09one of which was Crowbar
05:10along with Daphne
05:10who did their very best
05:11to try and be entertaining.
05:13After World Championship Wrestling was gone,
05:15Crowbar did go on to appear in TNA
05:16and some other indies for a while.
05:18So in 2021,
05:20someone from AEW thought,
05:21well, why don't we bring him in?
05:23And they did.
05:24Having a match against Joey Janela on Dark,
05:25of course he did lose,
05:27but much as he did 20 or so years ago,
05:29he came in
05:30and he just did the best job possible.
05:32We never saw him again,
05:34but if you are into wrestling trivia,
05:35especially how long somebody took a gap
05:37between major promotions,
05:39well, you should probably put Crowbar down on that list
05:41because I bet he features.
05:43Before ODB.
05:44I have watched pretty much everything
05:45that AEW has done,
05:46but even I forgot that ODP had an appearance.
05:50I mean, my word,
05:51we've done a lot in three years.
05:52Mostly known for her time in TNA,
05:54she probably would have got a gig with WWE at some point
05:57if her act hadn't been distinctly non-PG.
06:00However, because she was a recognizable name,
06:02eventually AEW gave her a shot.
06:04She entered the Casino Battle Royal
06:06all the way back in 2019,
06:08mostly because we have to have a few surprises here.
06:11It's like the Royal Rumble.
06:12Think how many times you've watched that
06:13and you don't get any shocks.
06:15You feel like a sad panda.
06:16So this was a way to make you feel like a happy bear.
06:19After a beast stare down with Nyla Rose
06:20because they're both beasts,
06:21she was able to help eliminate Awesome Kong
06:24before Britt Baker got rid of her.
06:26That was it.
06:27Draw a line under it.
06:28She was gone.
06:29Number three, Tully Blanchard.
06:30Yes, Tully Blanchard has featured in AEW a lot.
06:33He was the long-term manager of FDR
06:35before they turned face
06:36and he basically did a really, really good job.
06:39The part you may have forgotten though,
06:41because so much was happening,
06:42is that this veteran of the wrestling scene
06:45actually had a match.
06:46Forget the fact that he was 67 years old at the time.
06:49And Tully did indeed team up with his boys, Cash and Dax,
06:52in order to take on Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy, and Marco Stunt.
06:55And by the time he was doing his classic slingshot suplex
06:58onto Marco,
07:00everybody was going crazy.
07:02Amazingly, this was super entertaining too.
07:04I mean, FTR controlled everything as they always do.
07:07But in no universe
07:09should Tully Blanchard been able to perform
07:11at the level he did,
07:13it's almost like he's got some skills.
07:15Dave Meltzer, he of Wrestling Observer fame,
07:17even gave this match three and three-quarter stars,
07:20which means it's higher rated
07:21than The Rock versus Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 18.
07:25And did I put that in there
07:26in order to flame the comments?
07:28Yes, I did.
07:29Number two, Glacier.
07:30Another one I totally forgot about
07:32because I'm pretty sure I just made it up in my head.
07:35I didn't.
07:36Handing the first double or nothing
07:37in the Men's Casino Battle Royale
07:39to tie into those surprises
07:40we were talking about earlier,
07:41AEW obviously knew that their crowd
07:44was super-duper hardcore
07:45and thought,
07:46who can we bring back
07:47that will absolutely get a reaction
07:48if they pick Glacier?
07:51I mean, for one,
07:51he's become an internet meme recently
07:53because he took so damn long
07:54to actually debut way back when in WCW.
07:57But also,
07:58he is just one massive Mortal Kombat ripoff.
08:01And even in the modern day,
08:02that's just kind of cool.
08:03I mean, he did absolutely nothing in the match,
08:05but he didn't need to do anything.
08:07People just wanted to point and go,
08:09ha ha, it's Glacier.
08:11This one still pleases me.
08:13Number one, Tommy Dreamer.
08:14Glacier wasn't the only recognizable
08:16old-school face in that match either
08:18because do you want to know who else was in it?
08:21I mean, you already know,
08:22but it was Tommy Dreamer.
08:23The best part of all of this too
08:24is that the winner of this battle royal
08:25was going to go on to the next pay-per-view
08:27in order to fight for the world title,
08:29which meant Dreamer
08:31totally must have thought he could have won.
08:33This didn't happen, obviously,
08:34and his main role was to shine a spotlight
08:36on the likes of Orange Cassidy and Sonny Kiss
08:38because they were brand new performers
08:40in AEW wanted to make sure you walked away
08:42going, ha, I should think about them more.
08:44Tommy was soon gone,
08:46and obviously following controversies
08:47makes this a little less fun,
08:49but a fact is a fact,
08:50and a fact is a fact.
08:51So has Tommy Dreamer appeared in AEW?
08:54Yes.
08:55Yes, he has.
08:55No other wrestlers that we all totally forgot
08:57appeared for All Elite Wrestling.
