00:00Hello and welcome to the Top of the Pots review of 2025 where together we'll look back on some of
00:15the musical stories of the year as well as enjoying some great performances and celebrating
00:20the top 10 biggest selling songs. Now 2025 has been a year of nostalgic tours with the summer
00:26of Oasis Mania and 90s boy bands Five and Boyzone reuniting. Taylor Swift showed us the life of a
00:33showgirl plus the rise of country continued especially here in the UK as the home of country
00:38the Grand Ole Opry travelled to London for the first time ever. But there's even more to discover
00:44and over the next hour we'll enjoy music from Pulp, Chapel Roan and Lewis Capaldi. We'll say hello to
00:51the women of the moment breaking records all around the world this year, Olivia Dean. And Top of the
00:57Pots alumni and all-round legend Jarvis Cocker tells us about his year. Plus we'll get to know the
01:03artists behind two of the biggest selling songs of 2025. That's US rising stars Raven Lene and Alex
01:10Warren. So let's get into our first performance which comes from the man fondly known as the
01:15North East Springsteen who back in February released his third album People Watching and ended up winning
01:20the Mercury Prize Album of the Year, remaining a man of the people by donating all his winnings to
01:26charity. So here he is with the title track from his chart-topping album headlining Radio 1's Big
01:32Weekend in Liverpool, it's Sam Fender.

02:06This at the glimmer of hope
02:08Gives me away from feeling alone
02:11Gives me a moment out of evil
02:15Used to feel so invincible
02:16I used to feel it was worth dreaming of
02:20Back in the gasworks, screaming the song
02:23Just the beauty of youth will quell my head
02:27Oh, I feel so dark
02:31I remember it
02:33Oh, my heart
02:40I feel so dark
02:43I remember
02:44I've been for a while, so no way back home
02:53Everybody on the treadmill
02:55Out of the billboards, out of the heat
02:59Someone has done, shown the street tonight
03:02Oh, I can't stop them
03:05That's still what I'll come for
03:08I think the world's on the way back home
03:10I think the world's on the way back home
03:14I came back home after seven years
03:28What a week chasing tracks of her tears
03:32Wanted the nurse to get the gist of it
03:34I promised to get her out of the care
03:37And the police was calling the bets
03:40And I stopped in overruled by callous arms
03:44And the goodness was round to fall
03:46And the beauty of youth that left my breaking heart
03:51But the world in my heart
03:54When you loved someone
03:57Oh, I stayed on the way back home
04:03Until you left this life
04:06I think the world's on the way back home
04:07Cause that's just love
04:09I think the world's on the way back home
04:12I think the world's on the way back home
04:13I think the world's on the way back home
04:14I think the world's on the way back home
04:15I think the world's on the way back home
04:17I think the world's on the way back home
04:19I think the world's on the way back home
04:20I think the world's on the way back home
04:21I think the world's on the way back home
04:22I think the world's on the way back home
04:23I think the world's on the way back home
04:24I think the world's on the way back home
04:25I think the world's on the way back home
04:29As you hold your phone
04:31I keep the watch on the wind and cold
04:34I keep the watch on the wind and cold
04:37I keep the watch on the wind and cold
04:46I keep the watch on the wind and cold
04:55I keep the watch on the wind and cold
04:58Happy for life so we'll be back home
05:01You're waiting so bad for my friends
05:06Can't wait such two results in this sky
05:11I'll feed for this crippled eye
05:15In the turmoil of the times
05:18And I'll hold you in my heart till the day I die
05:22Happy for life so we'll be back home
05:28Everybody on a chair and a woman
05:31I know the girl who's having a hit
05:34Someone who's calling us on the street today
05:37Oh, just never
05:39That's what I want to tell you for
05:43Happy for life so we'll be back home
05:45Happy for life so we'll be back home
05:49Happy for life so we'll be back home
05:57Happy for life so we'll be back home
06:01Happy for life so we'll be back home
06:09Happy for life so we'll be back home
06:12Sam Fender there tearing up Sefton Park in Liverpool for Radio 1's Big Weekend earlier this year and
06:41Stand by Sunderland because it's coming your way in 2026
06:46Next up an artist who returned in a big way in 2025
06:50Not only has Olivia Dean sold out her UK tour
06:53Including six dates at London's O2 next year
06:56She's also become the first woman to ever have four singles in the top ten simultaneously
07:02And here she is to tell us how it's been
07:05Hi Clara, it's me Olivia Dean and wow
07:08What a year 2025 has been
07:10If you'd have told me at the beginning of the year
07:13What the rest of the year would have been like
07:14I would have said no, don't believe you
07:16Looks like we're making up for lost time
07:20Not only did the album go to number one which was ridiculous
07:23But at the same time Man I Need was also number one in the singles chart
07:26So I did the double
07:27I didn't even know the double was a thing
07:30Probably one of the most surreal moments of my life
07:33And yeah, both of them look really nice next to each other next to my telly
07:37It's an album about love
07:44And don't we all just want to love each other
07:46And be in love or love each other better
07:49And I don't know, I think it just touched people
07:51Then I found out I was the first female solo artist in history
07:58In history
07:59To have four songs in the top ten at one time
08:02My mum was actually the person that sent that to me
08:05And I texted her back and said, you need to get that fact checked
08:07Because it's probably not true
08:08So don't get excited
08:09It's ridiculous
08:10And I still don't believe it's true
08:12But apparently it is
08:13So
08:14We're going to 2026
08:17And I'm doing my first ever arena tour
08:20And we're doing six nights of the O2
08:22Which are all sold out
08:24And a lot of work to do before then
08:26But it's going to be great
08:28It's definitely all still very pinch me
08:30And I think it's going to be an incredible year next year
08:33And now here's me playing Man I Need earlier on in the year
08:37Roll the clip
08:38Talk to me, talk to me
08:41Talk to me, talk to me
08:45Looks like we're making up for lost time
08:51Need you to spell it out for me
08:55Washing over on all night
08:59It's like a type of alchemy
09:03Introduce me to your best friend
09:07I can come and stop writing

09:15I kind of wonder where you are
09:19I already know I can't leave it alone
09:22You're all mine
09:24And I already gave you the time and the place
09:30So don't be shy
09:32Just come be the man I need
09:35Tell me you got something to give
09:37I want it
09:39I kind of like it when you call me wonderful
09:42Whatever the type of talking is
09:45Just come on then
09:47I gotta know you're meant to
09:49Be the man I need
09:51Talk to me
09:53Talk to me
09:55Talk to me, talk to me
09:57Be the man that I need, baby
09:59Talk to me, talk to me
10:01Be the man that I need, need, need
10:03Talk to me, talk to me
10:05Be the man that I need, baby
10:07Talk to me, talk to me
10:09Be the man, man, man, man, man
10:12I like to think you feel the same way
10:16But I can't tell with you sometimes
10:20So baby, let's get on the same page
10:24Stop making me read between the lines
10:27Already know I can't leave it alone
10:30Oh my, and I already gave you the time and the place
10:38So don't be shy
10:40Just come be the man I need
10:43Tell me you got something to give
10:45I want it
10:47I kinda like it when you call me wonderful
10:51Whatever the type of talk you is
10:53Come on, man
10:55I gotta know you're meant to be the man I need
10:59Talk to me
11:00Talk to me
11:02Talk to me
11:04Talk to me
11:06Talk to me, talk to me
11:08Be the man that I need, baby
11:11Talk to me, talk to me
11:12Be the man that I need, need, need
11:15Talk to me, talk to me
11:16Be the man that I need, baby
11:19Talk to me, talk to me
11:20Be the man, man, man, man, man
11:23The glorious Olivia Dean with her chart smash
11:47Man I Need from her number one album
11:49The Art of Loving
11:50And don't forget, she'll be joining Jules Holland
11:52For his annual Hootenanny
11:53To see in the new year on BBC2 tonight
11:56No doubt Olivia is a future festival headliner
12:00And this year we saw even more brilliant women
12:04Headlining festivals across the UK
12:06So right now, here are some of those winning women
12:09With applied pressure from these women
12:14And their loyal fans the world over
12:16Many festivals went on to proudly book
12:19Some of the world's most successful female artists to headline
12:22Leading the charge, global megastar Olivia Rodrigo
12:31Set a new record by headlining a total of 18 festivals around the globe
12:36And it doesn't get much bigger than Glastonbury
12:39At just 22 years old
12:43The pop juggernaut became the Sunday night pyramid stage headliner
12:47Backed by an all-female and non-binary band
12:57Olivia delivered a killer set with an unexpected special guest
13:01In the form of The Cure's Robert Smith
13:04Over on the other stage on Saturday night
13:13Charlie XCX literally set the stage alight with her headline set
13:18After taking the world by storm with Brat Summer last year
13:23And cleaning up the Brits
13:24It was one of the most anticipated sets of the weekend
13:28In an incredible one-woman show
13:31Charlie transformed the Glastonbury feels
13:33Into a sweat-drenched, laser-lit nightclub
13:36Glastonbury!
13:44At the same time, on West Holt's stage
13:47Rap icon Dolce delivered a masterclass headline set of her own
13:51Welcome to Dolce's School of Hip-Hop
13:53I've been resting with my peace and that's the irony
13:57I'm a dying sunflower leaving a dread love seat
13:59In the A13, Glastonbury, Scream!
14:02Hands up, hands up, hands up, hands up, hands up
14:06Hands up, hands up, hands up, hands up
14:08No chip on my shoulder
14:09What you say?
14:11But it didn't stop at Glastonbury
14:14Other festivals elsewhere were also making room for women in the top spots
14:18Isle of Wight's wet leg made their mark
14:22When they topped the bill at Greenland Festival
14:39US pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter
14:42Took on Barcelona's Primavera Sound
14:44And BST Hyde Park
14:46You guys, sold out
14:48Two nights
14:4965,000 people at Hyde Park
14:51Our very own Ray delivered true escapism at London's Victoria Park
14:58We are headlining all points east
15:00Which is very exciting
15:01And to round off the summer
15:06Midwest princess Chapel Rhone
15:08Continued to ride her unstoppable high
15:10When she headlined Reading and Leeds Festival
15:12Bringing her euphoric fairy tale to life
15:15So get ready to saddle up
15:17As we look back on Chapel's unforgettable performance of Hot To Go

19:06Who can take me on the road
19:10A jubilant mass sing-along at Reading Festival this summer
19:16led by the Midwest princess, Chapel Roan.
19:19Coming up later in the show, in true Top of the Pots fashion,
19:22we'll be finding out the top 10 biggest songs of 2025
19:25and one of the artists behind one of those songs is our next guest.
19:30US star Raven Lene broke through this year with her chart smash Love Me Not
19:34and here she is to tell us how 2025 has been for her.
19:38Hi, Raven.
19:39Hi, Clara. It's Raven Lene and I'm here in one of my favourite cities in the world, London,
19:44about to play Roundhouse for the very first time. I'm so excited.
19:49My 2025 has been probably one of the most transformative years of my life.
19:53I've learned so much about myself as an artist, as a woman, as a friend,
19:59but also being able to experience such highs in my career that I've been working for
20:04a long time has been really rewarding, so it's been good.
20:09Having one of the biggest songs of 2025 feels surreal for me,
20:18only because I remember when I first made the song and we finished it
20:22and me and my team, we knew that there was something so special about it.
20:27I think the most interesting comment I get about Love Me Not
20:30is that it feels like it can be from any decade
20:33and I think that marks a truly generational song.
20:37This year has been really validating for me because there's been a lot of moments
20:41in my journey where I might have doubted or been confused about, you know, my timing
20:46or if there was space for me in music.
20:49So this is kind of the okay of I'm on the right path, I'm doing the right thing
20:53and some things just take time.
20:55This tour has been so beautiful for me.
21:01because my mom has come to almost every city with me,
21:05so it's been nice having her company,
21:06but also being able to relive these songs
21:09and make new memories around them with new fans.
21:13This summer I got to sing Love Me Not for Radio 1's live lounge.
21:17Please enjoy.
21:19See you right now, I need you, I'll meet you
21:23Somewhere now, you up now
21:25I see you, I get you, to care now
21:28Slow down, be cool, I'll miss you
21:31Come here now, it's yours now
21:33Keep it, I'll hold out
21:35Until now, I need you, right now
21:38Once I leave you, I'm strung out
21:40If I get you, I'm slowly breaking down
21:44And oh, it's hard to see you
21:47But I wish you were right here
21:49Oh, it's hard to leave you
21:51When I get you everywhere
21:53All this time I'm thinking
21:55We could never be a pair
21:57Oh, no, I don't need you
21:59But I miss you, come here
22:01And oh, it's hard to see you
22:04When I wish you were right here
22:06Oh, it's hard to leave you
22:08When I get you everywhere
22:09All this time I'm thinking
22:12I'm strong enough to sink it
22:14Oh, no, I don't need you
22:16But I miss you, come here
22:18He love me not, he loves me
22:20He holds me tight, that lets me go
22:23He love me not, he loves me
22:25He holds me tight, that lets me go
22:27So now, as you leave me
22:29We always lose connection
22:31It's getting messy
22:33A fiend for your affection
22:35Don't loosen your grip
22:38Gotta hold on me
22:40I'll go wherever
22:41Let's get back together
22:44Lord, take it
22:47So far away
22:49I pray to God
22:52We don't breathe
22:53I want you
22:55To take me up and down
22:58And round and round again
23:00You know it's hard to see you
23:03But I wish you were right here
23:04Oh, it's hard to leave you
23:07When I get you everywhere
23:08All this time I'm thinking
23:11We could never be a pair
23:13Oh, no, I don't need you
23:15But I wish you were right here
23:17And oh, it's hard to see you
23:19When I wish you were right here
23:21Oh, it's hard to leave you
23:24When I get you everywhere
23:25Oh, no, I don't need you
23:28I'm strong enough to sink it
23:30Oh, no, I don't need you
23:32But I wish you were right here
23:34He love me not
23:35He loves me
23:36He holds me tight
23:38Then lets me go
23:39He love me not
23:40He loves me
23:40He holds me tight
23:42Then lets me go
23:43He loves me
23:43He loves me
23:45He holds me tight
23:46Then lets me go
23:47He loves me
23:49He holds me tight
23:50He lets me go
23:51You're gonna say that you're sorry
23:54At the end of the night
23:56Wake up in the morning
23:58And everything's alright
24:00At the end of the story
24:02You're holding me tight
24:05I don't need to worry
24:07Am I out of my mind?
24:11I'm losing my mind
24:14When I get your mind
24:16All this time I'm thinking
24:18I'm strong enough to sink it
24:20Oh no, I don't need you
24:22But I wish you'd love me
24:24He loves me, he holds me tight
24:28Then lets me go
24:29Love me not, he loves me
24:31He holds me tight
24:32Then lets me go
24:34Raven Lanay with Love Me Not
24:37from Radio 1's Live Lounge
24:39back in September.
24:41Now it's time to say hello
24:42to a true treasure
24:43who's performed on Top of the Pops
24:45many a time
24:46and has even been a previous host.
24:48I'm talking about Jarvis Cocker.
24:51It's been a big year for Pulp
24:52so let's hear more from the man himself.
24:55Hello Clara, Jarvis here.
24:57My 2025 has been amazing.
25:01It seems to have lasted
25:02about the same length
25:03as about four years
25:04not because it's been boring
25:06but just because a lot of things
25:07have happened.
25:08If I had to sum it up
25:09in one sentence
25:10I would say
25:112025
25:12we came alive.
25:15Do you remember the crossfire?
25:17We've been away for 24 years
25:19so people
25:20might just have forgotten about us.
25:22Let's all meet up
25:24in the year 2000
25:26There were some anniversaries
25:27like for instance
25:28it was 30 years
25:29since we played at Blaston before
25:31it was 30 years
25:32since different class came out
25:33it was 30 years
25:34since Common People was a hit
25:36so it was
25:37it seemed a bit silly
25:38to ignore them.
25:40We'd been playing concerts
25:42and we'd played a couple of new songs
25:45and we just thought
25:46let's see how many we could write
25:48and could we make a record.
25:49Once we'd done the record
25:56I was really happy with it
25:58and then I did have a couple of weeks
25:59where I thought
26:00maybe we shouldn't release it
26:02and just keep it as like
26:03that was a nice thing
26:04for us to do as a band
26:05to show that we could do it
26:07but however the record company
26:09had paid for us to record it
26:11so we had to release it.
26:13When it came out
26:13and people did take notice of it
26:15and it got a good perception
26:16and it went to number one
26:18and everything
26:18it was a great feeling
26:20it really was.
26:21We got given the number one award
26:23and then I kept showing it
26:25in the concert
26:25so you could tell
26:26that I was quite pleased.
26:28The Albert Moore
26:29is number one.
26:31We had thought about
26:32playing Glastonbury
26:33but when we asked them
26:35they said
26:35oh well you know
26:36we've booked everybody
26:36sorry there's not a slot for you.
26:38Any chance you'll be doing Glastonbury?
26:39I'll be going to Glastonbury
26:41and I might DJ.
26:43But what about
26:44if one of the headliners
26:45drop out again
26:46like they did in 1995?
26:48I don't think
26:48that's going to happen.
26:49No but it might.
26:50Imagine a while
26:51but it did Jarvis
26:52would you step up?
26:53If it was a life
26:54or death situation
26:54but I really don't think
26:56it's going to happen.
26:57And then
26:57maybe two months before
26:59they said
27:00well we have got this
27:01secret slot
27:03that we do.
27:04They said
27:04you could do that
27:05on Saturday
27:05but not under our name.
27:07We were secretly
27:09listed as Patchwork
27:10which some people
27:11caught on to that
27:12because Candida
27:13had mentioned
27:13in an interview
27:14that she liked
27:15doing Patchwork.
27:16Oh is this the way
27:17they say
27:18the future's meant to feel
27:20or just 200,000 people
27:23standing in the field
27:25To go back
27:26after 30 years
27:27made me a bit nervous
27:30but I was very excited
27:31about it
27:32and it seemed
27:32kind of poetic
27:34that you know
27:35the circle
27:35had been completed.
27:37Comparing the pyramid stage
27:442025
27:45to the pyramid stage
27:461995
27:46the main thing was
27:48I could actually see
27:49people this time
27:50because we were playing
27:51in the day.
27:52You know
27:53when we played
27:54in 1995
27:54you were aware
27:55there were a lot of people
27:56but you couldn't really
27:57see them
27:57it was just an idea
27:58that sound
27:59when they sang along.
28:01I could really see
28:02everybody
28:03I could see
28:03the crowd
28:04stretch quite a long way
28:05and then there was
28:06the kind of crazy thing
28:07the climax of Common People
28:09the Red Arrows flew over
28:11which was a complete
28:12I can just say
28:13it's categorically now
28:14we had not arranged that.
28:23Things like that
28:24made it a very special concert.
28:27You're about to see
28:28Pulp play
28:29on Jules Holland
28:30and you know
28:31how they have everybody
28:32in a circle
28:32on the latest set
28:34so we were there
28:35the hives
28:36were opposite
28:37I was thinking
28:37don't attack me
28:39and we played
28:41Spike Island.
28:42Something stopped me
28:53Tired in my tracks
28:55I was headed for disaster
28:57Then I turned back
28:59I was wrestling
29:00with a coat hanger
29:01Can you guess who won't?
29:03The universe shrugged
29:05Shrugged and moved on
29:07It's a guess
29:08No idea
29:10No idea
29:10It's a feeling
29:13Not a voice
29:17In my head
29:19Just a feeling
29:23By the way
29:24And by the way
29:26This make a look
29:31Come alive
29:31And by the way
29:34This time I'll get it right
29:40Not a shaman or a showman ashamed
29:53I was selling the rights
29:54I took a breather, decided not to ruin my life
29:58I was conforming to a cosmic design
30:01I was playing to time
30:02Until I walk back to the garden
30:05Of earthly two lines
30:07I was born to perform
30:10It's a calling
30:14I exist to do this
30:19Shouting and polluting
30:22And by the way
30:25The spay game didn't come alive
30:32And by the way
30:33This time I'll get it right
30:40No one will ever understand it
30:45And no one can ever have the last word
30:49Because it's not something you could ever say
30:52So swivel
30:55It's a gift
30:59No idea
31:01It's a feeling
31:05Not a voice
31:07In my head
31:10Just making me feel
31:14And by the way
31:16Ooh
31:17The spay game can come alive
31:21And by the way
31:24The spay game can come alive
31:25And by the way
31:29Oh this time I'll get it right
31:30Yeah
31:31And by the way
31:32Oh, hey, it's fake, I look, I'm alive and I'm away
31:41Well, this time I'll get it right, oh
32:02Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
32:20Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
32:25Excellent to see Pulse back in action this year with Spike Island
32:36from their chart-topping eighth album, More.
32:392025 saw lots of other artists making a return
32:42with the most anticipated reunion that nobody thought would happen ever.
32:47The Gallagher brothers, they finally took to the stage together once again,
32:50but the reunions and the returns didn't stop there.
32:562025 gave us some of the biggest and best returns in music,
33:01and wow, did it deliver.
33:05After 16 long years, the great wait was finally over.
33:10Oasis were officially back.
33:12Following years of Will They, Won't They...
33:14Obviously, I missed being in a band and being with my brother and all that.
33:17It happens, it happens. If it don't, it don't.
33:19The Gallagher brothers finally confirmed the much-anticipated reunion tour.
33:23And with more than 14 million fans trying to buy tickets, the world went mad for it.
33:30Walking out hand-in-hand, the Britpop giants kick things off in summer
33:34and have since stormed their way across the UK and across the globe.
33:39As for what's next, well, Noel is rumoured to be writing new Oasis songs
33:53and a return to Nedworth is said to be on the cards.
33:56But one thing that is for certain, Oasis and their music will certainly live forever.
34:02From one 90s heavyweight to another, after rehearsing just for the hell of it last year,
34:13Radiohead burst back onto the scene for their first live shows since 2018.
34:18Pulling from an impressive catalogue across four decades,
34:22Radiohead took a busking attitude to their set list,
34:25playing any song, in any order, at any time.
34:28But with plans for 2026 still unknown, let's hope there's more surprises to come.
34:39And speaking of surprises, in October, Lily Allen suddenly dropped her new album,
34:45West End Girl, just four days after announcing it.
34:49Wrapped in her signature sound and witty lyricism,
34:55the Deeply Personal album marked her first musical project in seven years.
35:00And 2026 will see her hit the road again for her biggest headline tour ever.
35:04Earlier this year, 90s boy band Five also revealed they'd be stepping back into the spotlight
35:16for the first time in 25 years.
35:20With all five original members reuniting, fans snapped up tickets
35:26and what started as a 12-day run quickly grew to 25.
35:30From boy bands to ballads now, as Lewis Capaldi made his heroic return to music this summer.
35:43Following an emotional performance at Glastonbury in 2023,
35:48Lewis took a break from music to focus on his health and well-being.
35:51After being away for two years, the singer-songwriter took on one of the surprise slots
35:57on the Pyramid stage, drawing in one of the biggest crowds of the weekend.
36:07The outpour of love and support that followed resulted in a sold-out UK tour.
36:13And while he prepares for a US leg in 2026,
36:16let's remind ourselves of his unbelievable performance.
36:19How long till it feels
36:22Like the wound's finally starting to heal
36:27How long till it feels
36:32Like I'm more than a spoke in the room
36:36Most nights I feel
36:41That I'm not enough
36:43I've had my share of Monday mornings
36:46When I can't get it
36:48So where hope is lost
36:51And I come undone
36:53I swear to God he'll survive
36:58If it kills me soon
37:03I'm gonna get up and try
37:08If it's the last thing I'll do
37:13I've still got something to give
37:18Though it hurts sometimes
37:23I'm gonna get up and leave
37:29Until the day that I die
37:33I swear to God I'll survive
37:35I swear to God I'll survive
37:37I swear to God I'll survive
37:39How long till you know
37:44That in truth you don't ever feel
37:48How far will you go
37:54To give back to the place you belong
37:59Most nights I feel
38:03That I'm not enough
38:06But I refuse to spend my best years
38:09Rotting in the sun
38:11So where hope is lost
38:13And I come undone
38:15I swear to God I'll survive
38:20If it kills me too
38:26I'm gonna get up and try
38:30If it's the last thing I'll do
38:36I've still got something to give
38:41Though it hurts sometimes
38:45I'm gonna get up and leave
38:51Until the day that I die
38:55I swear to God I'll survive
38:59I swear to God I'll survive
39:06I swear to God I'll survive
39:10I swear to God I'll survive
39:16I swear to God I'll survive
39:20If it kills me too
39:23I'm gonna get up and try
39:28If it's the last thing I'll do
39:33If it's the last thing I'll do
39:35I've still got something to give
39:39But with it hurts sometimes
39:46I'm gonna get up and leave
39:48Until the day that I die
39:52I swear to God I'll survive
39:57The triumphant return of Lewis Capaldi to a warm and welcoming worthy farm at this year's Glastonbury Festival
40:11Now someone else who broke through this year is a South London artist with an incredible voice Lola Young
40:18Lola performed at the BRIT Awards at the beginning of the year and released her album in September
40:22But announced soon after that she'd be taking a break from music
40:25We send Lola all our love and thought we'd go back to May of this year to Radio One's Big Weekend in Liverpool
40:32where she performs her massive hit Messi to a huge crowd
40:37I love the fact that everyone's getting on everyone's shoulders, that's a beautiful thing
40:50Look at that!
40:52Hey!
40:53You know I'm impatient
40:59So why would you leave me waiting outside the station
41:02When it was like minus four degrees and I
41:05I get what you're saying
41:07I just really don't wanna hear it right now
41:10Could you?
41:11For like once in your life
41:13And listen to me
41:15I took your nice words of advice about
41:17How you think I'm gonna die lucky if I turn 33
41:20Okay, so yeah, smoke like a chimney
41:22I'm not skinny
41:23And I pull a Britney
41:24Every other week
41:26Become me some slut
41:28Who do you want?
41:29See it!
41:30You told me you had a job
41:36Then you ask where the hell I've been
41:38And I'm too perfect
41:40Till I open my big mouth
41:43I want to be me
41:45Is that not allowed?
41:47And I'm too clever
41:49And then I'm too goddamn dumb
41:51You hate it when I cry
41:53Unless it's that time of the month
41:55And I'm too perfect
41:57Till I show you that I'm not
41:59A thousand people I could be for you
42:02And you hate the whole damn lot
42:06You hate the whole damn lot
42:10You hate the whole damn lot
42:12Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
42:21I was taking you ages
42:22Used to look at
42:24And I'm not asking for pages
42:26And one, two would be nice
42:28And please don't pull those faces
42:31When I've been out working
42:33While I'm so full day
42:34It's just one bottle of wine or tea
42:37But hey, you can't even talk
42:39You smoke just to help you sleep
42:41And while you're out getting stoned
42:42And four o'clock
42:43And then you're going to eat
42:46And don't say that love
42:48Cause I got high again
42:50And forgot to fold my clothes
42:54Cause I'm too messy
42:56And then I'm too filthy unclean
42:58You told me you had a job
43:00And you asked where the hell I've been
43:02And I'm too perfect
43:04Till I open my big mouth
43:07I want to be me
43:09Is that not allowed?
43:11And I'm too clever
43:13And then I'm too goddamn dumb
43:15You hate it when I cry
43:17Unless it's that time of the month
43:19And I'm too perfect
43:20And I'm too perfect
43:21To show you that I'm not
43:23A thousand people
43:24I could be for you
43:26And you hate the whole damn Lord
43:30You hate the whole damn Lord
43:34You hate the whole damn Lord
43:39You hate, you hate
43:40You hate
43:48This is my band everybody
43:49This is corner on the guitar
43:51This is camera with the keys
43:52Under this case
43:53Down in your face
43:54Join on drums
43:55We love you one
43:56I love you so much
43:57Thank you for having me
43:59Oh
44:02Cause I'm too messy
44:04And then I'm too goddamn clean
44:06You told me you had a job
44:08And you asked where the lies
44:09And I'm too perfect
44:11And I'm too perfect
44:12Till I open my big mouth
44:14I want to see it
44:16See it
44:17See it out loud
44:18And I'm too clever
44:20And then I'm too goddamn dumb
44:23And I'm too goddamn dumb
44:25Next is that time of the month
44:27And I'm too perfect
44:28Till I show you that
44:30I've got a thousand people
44:32Locking me for you
44:33And you hate the whole damn Lord
44:37You hate the whole damn Lord
44:38You hate the whole damn Lord
44:41You hate the whole damn Lord
44:42You hate the whole damn Lord
44:43You hate the whole damn Lord
44:44You hate the whole damn Lord
44:45You hate the whole damn Lord
44:46You hate the whole damn Lord
44:48You hate the whole damn Lord
44:50You hate the whole damn Lord
44:51The brilliant Lola Young from Radio 1's Big Weekend in Liverpool's Sefton Park.
45:05Now, 2025 has seen the charts dominated by the pop girlies,
45:09with the likes of Sabrina Carpenter and Chapel Roan claiming spots in either the singles or albums top ten.
45:16But it was Taylor Swift who swooped in at the last minute back in October
45:19to claim the biggest-selling album of the year with The Life of a Showgirl.
45:24So in classic Top of the Pops fashion, it's time to find out who are the top ten biggest-selling songs of the year.
45:32Kicking things off at tens, it's pure pop power,
45:36as Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars join forces for Die With A Smile.
45:41At nine, it's record-breaking Olivia Dean with her first-ever number one, Man I Need.
45:55We met her earlier in the show, it's Raven Lanay with Love Me Not at eight.
46:03With one of the biggest songs of the last two years, it's Benson Boone at seven with Beautiful Things.
46:17At six, pop star Gracie Abrams made her Glastonbury debut this year
46:22and earned her first U.K. number one with That's So True.
46:33You're number five.
46:34Teaming up once again, Bruno Mars joins Blackpink's Rosé for their viral hit, APT.
46:40This year, global blockbuster K-pop Demon Hunters took over both the screens and the charts
46:54with Golden at four.
46:58Riding high at number three, it's Chapel Roan with pop anthem Pink Pony Club.
47:03South London's finest, Lola Young, takes number two with her breakout single, Messy.
47:21And at number one, this year has been anything but ordinary for Alex Warren.
47:28And we caught up with the man himself on his extraordinary year.
47:32Hi, Alex.
47:33Hey, Clara.
47:34It's Alex Warren.
47:352025 has been absolutely insane.
47:37I released Ordinary in February of this year, and it's one of the biggest songs of 2025,
47:41and that's mind-boggling.
47:43Dude, I never thought a song I wrote about my wife would be anywhere as big as it is,
47:47and I'm so happy that it is.
47:52Ordinary has broken so many records.
47:53One of the records, it's the longest number one of the decade,
47:56beating Ed Sheeran's Bad Habits.
48:00And I just want to say, Ed, if I can be candid,
48:02there's a new ginger in town.
48:05This guy.
48:07The fact that my album is also in the top ten,
48:10I'm just going to keep saying, it's crazy.
48:12I wrote it in my bedroom.
48:19There's me and my friends, and that's exactly what my music is.
48:22It's just me telling my story and the fact that so many people care and also so many people relate to that is terrifying, but also amazing.
48:29I was nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys.
48:34I was at my house with my friends.
48:36We were writing the new album, actually.
48:37So it was really, really cool to kind of have a full circle moment where I was nominated for the work that I had done last year,
48:43and I was with the people who did it with me.
48:45Earlier this year, I got to perform at Radio 1 Live Lounge, and it was the most terrifying but exciting thing I've ever done.
48:55That was probably one of my favorite performances I've done, and I wanted to show you guys.
48:59So this is it.
49:01They say the holy water's watered down
49:04This town's lost its faith
49:07Our colors will fade
49:09Eventually
49:10So your full time is running out
49:13Day after day
49:15We'll make the Monday
49:17Our masterpiece
49:19Oh my, my
49:21Oh my, my
49:23Lord
49:24I'll take one look at you
49:27You're taking me on
49:28Of the ordinary
49:30I want you laying me down
49:32Till you're dead
49:33It's buried
49:34On the edge of your mind
49:37Staying drunk on your mind
49:39The angels up in the clouds
49:42I tear this snowing
49:44We found
49:44So it's a world
49:45Of the ordinary
49:47You got me kissing the ground
49:50On your sanctuary
49:51Shadow me with your touch
49:54Oh Lord
49:55Determine the dust
49:57The angels up in the clouds
49:59I tear this snowing down
50:02Hopeless
50:04Hallelujah
50:05On this side of heaven's gate
50:11All my life
50:13How do you
50:15Breathe in
50:17Take my breath away
50:19Bet you broke to obey
50:23Bet you broke to obey
50:23You're the sculptor
50:24I'm the clay
50:25On my mind
50:27You're taking me out
50:28Of the ordinary
50:30I want you laying me down
50:32So dead and buried
50:34On the edge of your night
50:37Staying drunk on your mind
50:39The angels up in the clouds
50:42The angels up in the clouds
50:42I tear this snowing down
50:44So it's a world
50:46You're taking me out
50:47Higher than ecstasy
50:49Maybe you're next to me
50:52On my mind
50:54Until I saw your light
50:58I thought you had to die
51:00To fight
51:01Something so out
51:02Of the ordinary
51:04I want you laying me down
