00:47Alright, let's get straight into it.
00:49We are going to meet seven times Red Bull cliff diving champion, Rihanna Nifflin.
00:54Hit it!
01:00Cliff diving, quite an extreme sport, isn't it?
01:14How do you go from diving off the 3-metre at home into the swimming pool, you know, to 30 metres?
01:21It definitely takes time. I began in the pool, 1-metre, 3-metre, 10-metre competing.
01:28And then, yeah, I gradually moved my way up.
01:30I went into entertainment diving and then I saw the world of Red Bull cliff diving and I said I want to be there.
01:35Do you know how fast you're going by the time you get to the water?
01:39Because 30 metres, you'd pick up some speed, wouldn't you?
01:42Yeah, I believe it's about 70 to 75 k's an hour.
01:45Oh my. So when you hit water at that speed, it doesn't necessarily feel like water, right?
01:51If you get it perfect, maybe. But otherwise I feel like when you hit it that speed, it's like concrete.
01:56You hit the water pretty quick and if it goes wrong, it can go very wrong.
02:00Like, there's no denying that, but I think as a diver, like, you understand that and you do everything you can for it to not happen.
02:08Describe for us the moment when you get it right, that elation when you come back to the surface and you go, I've got this.
02:15When you're standing on the platform and you're about to take that leap, there's so much going on like you.
02:21There's so much energy running through your body like adrenaline, fear, emotion, focus.
02:29And then you hit the water and everything goes silent.
02:31And then you pop your head out of the water and, you know, it's such a cool feeling, I can't explain it.
02:36I guess what I can say is doing a good dive makes you want to go up and do it again.
02:40The adrenaline.
02:41Yeah.
02:42I look at what you do and there is no way you would ever catch me near a six storey building and jumping off that.
02:52Like, in no way.
02:53Seven times world champion, guys.
02:55That is, like, it's an extraordinary feat.
02:59And you're still doing it.
03:00You're still obviously enthusiastic about it.
03:02You conquer that fear and you still keep going.
03:05It's remarkable.
03:06Yeah, that's it.
03:07I think, you know, conquering those fears and doing things under pressure, I'm sure you can relate to it.
03:12Like, it just makes you feel alive and it makes you just want to continue, continue doing it.
03:18At the moment, I just feel like such a privilege to have the opportunity to make a living out of doing something that I love.
03:24I can't see myself hanging up my swimsuit anytime soon.
03:27I can relate.
03:28I'm like, no, I'm surfing till the day I die.
03:30Rob also dabbled in a bit of diving when he was younger.
03:37Oh, Rob, that was terrible.
03:38We've got so much more work to do.
03:40And I could tell he wasn't too happy with Rhiannon stealing all the attention.
03:45Like, I used to dive a bit when I was younger.
03:48Yeah.
03:49You know, there were a lot of people that did say that I should go and do it professionally.
03:52I didn't.
03:53But, you know, that was the opinion of a lot of people.
03:56They just thought, you're somewhat of a natural.
03:59I don't want to let it go.
04:00If we could go up the pool, maybe I'll show you a couple of things that I've been working on.
04:04Like, just to share information with each other, you know, share tips.
04:07Yeah, 100%.
04:08And techniques.
04:09Yeah, let's do it.
04:10Because you've probably got some things for me.

04:16So have you actually had a look down from 27 metres though?
04:19Well, when I was younger, I used to work on rooftops quite a lot.

04:24And waterproofing and stuff like that.
04:25And I would look over the edge, doing edge details.
04:27And you would often look over the edge.
04:29Sometimes you'd spit off the edge.
04:31All right.
04:32So what do you say?
04:33I'll give you a couple of diving tips.
04:36Yeah.
04:37You've got to show me what's already in your repertoire.
04:39It's quite extensive.
04:40We can start with a simple jump if you want.
04:43Yeah.
04:44Simple back jump.
04:45Back jump.
04:46Yeah.
04:47So in diving technically, without a flip first.
04:49You want to just make sure you're jumping backwards before you go for the flip.
04:54Yeah.
04:55I'm going to go up and then out and then I'm going to tuck and roll.

05:01But make sure it's really shallow.

08:43They're so welcoming.
08:44And, I mean, tonight the sunset was amazing.
08:47I got to share a couple of drinks with, you know, the other hosts.

09:22It's kind of limitless.
09:24You've got this wonderful mix of everything you can do with the water.
09:27But there's the cultural aspect of it as well.
09:29You know, the people are beautiful.
09:30They're so full of love and welcoming.
09:32And they're just so proud of their place that they call home.
09:35Fiji is just magical.
09:37I'm so excited to be finally with the whole team in Fiji time.

09:44I mean, listening to the music in the background, looking at the amazing sunsets.
09:50It's just all the ingredients for a perfect recipe to have the most amazing adventure.
09:54I mean, this place, wherever you look, is something really magical.
09:58Almost really hard to comprehend, but really easy to fall in love with there.

10:19But after a day, his infectious character and the whole vibe of the bloke just really lifts it.

10:35It's going to be hard to sort of stick your head up above the crowd with this crew because they go Mark 10.
10:43After a few too many Mai Tais, Felicity was soon swept away by the beat of the Fijian drums.

11:56Now, I can stand here and bang on about correct paddling technique, but sometimes the best way to pick something up is just to see it done properly.

12:36This morning, we're heading over to Tavarula Island, which is one of my favourite places in the world because it's so close to cloud break.
12:42I think I'm going to have my hands full, but let's see if I can show these blokes a thing or two about surfing.

12:52I'm watching the surf, Miguel.

13:09Out of all the places in the world, one of the most exclusive surf resorts that you can stay at.
13:21And its proximity to the cloud break is what makes it so special.
13:24It's literally just a short boat ride around the corner.
13:27What side of the island are you normally surfing?
13:29Plough breaks on the other side of the island, and that holds anywhere from 2 to 3 foot to 20 to 30 foot.
13:35I reckon there's a few little waves that we can take advantage of.
13:38Who wants to get amongst it?
13:39Yeah!
13:40Let's roll!
13:41Let's do it!
13:42Guys, this is Stu!
13:45Oh, I wouldn't have been a hug there!
13:50If it comes to big wave surfing or surfing any sort of waves of consequence, we'd be the jet ski driver.
13:56Safety is the most important thing.
13:58Not only is Stu putting you on the waves, but he's also rescuing at times.
14:03Yeah.
14:04So my job isn't just to look good on the jet ski and the channel.
14:07That's 80%!
14:09The job is really to be there when stuff hits the fan.
14:12You know, when things go wrong or when things are inevitably going to happen, which is a surfer goes down in a heavy situation.
14:19Jet ski driver's got to rip in before that next big wave hits them, pick them up, reach out that hand, rip them up onto the sled, and get them out of harm's way.
14:29You've got to be selfless too though, yeah?
14:31Yeah.
14:32Put yourself at risk to save others.
14:33It's exhilarating to do a rescue.
14:35You want it.
14:36You know, you have to commit.
14:37How many seconds is that on average?
14:39Like, you don't have a lot of time.
14:41It's really key that you get in there quickly.
14:43You'll see it when somebody falls on a big wave here at Cloudbreak or big waves around the world.
14:48They'll travel a hundred meters underwater in about five, six seconds.
14:52Yeah.
14:53Wow.
14:54And struggling to come up.
14:55Without having like a skilled pilot, I mean, you're nothing really.
14:59I mean, even when it comes to toe surfing, right?
15:01Obviously the surfer on the wave does the work, but it's all up to the jet ski driver to really position you in the perfect spot.
15:07So when you let go of the rope, you're in the perfect position to get the best height of your life.
15:12Yeah.
15:13So our job is we're actually helping the surfers when they know they have that confidence of us watching out for them on the side.
15:19It adds that extra level of comfort, brings that heart rate down even more.
15:23They know they got somebody watching out for them when they hit.
15:26So, I mean, I guess in the kitchen your head chef and the sous chef, they got each other's back.
15:31Is that like the same relationship here?
15:33Really, you know, it's complete trust in the driver and their rate on the line up, their awareness, their preparation.
15:39And it's almost like, I don't know, brotherhood or a sisterhood and you really feel that camaraderie within the big wave world.
15:44So it's more of an intimate relationship because your life is essentially in their hands, you know.
15:49So, we're going to head out and if you guys are up for it, you want to have a go?

19:51It sucked me up, threw me over the falls and just like, just bang, I was like f*** out.
19:55It was heavy. It doesn't look as heavy as it is.
19:58Like they're small waves by flick standards, but by my standards, it was heavy when it hit you.
