00:14:18okay then
00:14:21hey there
00:14:33hey yourself
00:14:34is that smile on your face because you're big opening today
00:14:37you didn't come by well I didn't want people to think you're being raided
00:14:42uh-huh you don't need your little brother looking over your shoulder every five minutes
00:14:46true but I don't mind it occasionally I'm gonna come by I just want you to get your feet on the ground
00:14:52first oh they're on the ground and and they're sore hey sheriff oh sorry I didn't know you had
00:14:57someone with you her she's just my sister thanks the Emerson case report is done and filed and I'm headed
00:15:03out for the night thank you lena have a good nature you too
00:15:11she doesn't like me she doesn't know you she's new she doesn't like anybody yeah well you could have
00:15:17introduced us this is a sheriff station not a church social still okay fine I'll introduce you
00:15:22next time I promise now is there something you want cuz I got a lot of work to do super sweet way to
00:15:27treat your sister what do you want I'm worried I need a little bit more information Michael
00:15:34Caldwell got into this big argument with a stranger who wants to buy his winery but Michael
00:15:38doesn't want to sell it to him and the guy gave me the creeps did you meet this guy saw him I didn't
00:15:43meet him and what about him was creepy something about the way he amped up and then he just left felt
00:15:49anxious maybe even desperate didn't feel like just business something about it didn't smell right
00:15:56smell right to your crime nose or your community nose crime nose okay that makes me nervous
00:16:03anything else after that I saw this strange woman in Shannon's coffee shop well that coffee shop is a
00:16:10pretty eclectic place there's a lot of strange people going in and out no she didn't fit your skills
00:16:15as a criminologist are superb that's why you teach a course but you don't need to practice them
00:16:19because you're not in Chicago anymore and that's a good thing yeah maybe you're right leave it with
00:16:29me before I put an APB out on strange woman and creepy guy I'll just have a look around to see if
00:16:34there's anything hanky hanky that is a word I've literally never used in my life probably never
00:16:40will again okay good night Ryan thank you I love you good talk good night
00:16:47love you too sis
00:16:52hanky
00:16:55I think I'm right George there's something up with Michael and that guy and I don't like it
00:17:08I know you'd rather talk about my dinner next week with Jake honestly I'm surprised that he asked me
00:17:16I never dreamed he'd be interested in me oh am I interested in him I mean I never really gave
00:17:23it much thought because he didn't seem like yeah I know I know I'm a liar but you like him because
00:17:31he knows that secret spot on your neck you like to have scratched and that clouds your judgment
00:17:36but that's okay oh I'm gonna have lunch with Shannon tomorrow no I'm sorry you can't come
00:17:45of course she forgives you for eating her flowers but it's just a girl's lunch this time
00:17:51I hope I see Michael though
00:17:53to the tasting room oh door's open is somebody here no we don't have anyone booked for today
00:18:05maybe Michael left it open when he brought up some cases of wine to restock did you want a
00:18:11memory Shannon what what is it
00:18:18he's dead
00:18:21I can't really know
00:18:24call my brother right now
00:18:27I know I remember
00:18:29Shannon Shannon
00:18:31what's going on
00:18:33I don't know
00:18:34is that Rick what is he still he's dead Michael Michael why'd you change your clothes
00:18:41because I spilled wine on them while I was topping the barrels
00:18:44Ainsley you don't think I did this
00:18:51oh Ainsley I don't know what I think yet
00:18:53but it looks like someone murdered Rick Dean
00:18:57Ryan you know Michael you know he's not capable of something like this
00:19:23it's not possible Shannon I promise you we're doing everything we can to get to the bottom
00:19:26of this but you arrested him no we're bringing him in for questioning and you know exactly
00:19:30why we have to do that Michael has not been charged with anything
00:19:34Mrs. Caldwell what happened Danny it's awful someone killed Rick Dean and the sheriff thinks
00:19:41Michael did it Michael well there's just no way who are you I'm Danny Avery Danny works
00:19:48with us were you here all afternoon Danny no I've been in town I just got back
00:19:52Ryan Sheriff can we please take Shannon someplace to sit down yeah of course I'll take care of her
00:20:00thank you Danny okay Ainsley please help prove that Michael didn't do this yeah I'm sure the
00:20:09sheriff will do just that okay don't worry
00:20:17Ryan Ainsley I can call you Ryan when no one else is around Michael really he was at the scene of the
00:20:25crime after having showered and put his clothes in the washing machine it's not so unusual for
00:20:29someone to shower and change after working in a wine cellar and there is wine on the floor near the
00:20:34barrels how did you I just checked Michael said he spilled someone himself while he was there and
00:20:38there is laundry and shower for the workers right beside it Michael probably just probably just what
00:20:45it's not a good look he had conflict with the victim which you saw yesterday and it looks like
00:20:50at least initially he was killed with a wine bottle Sheriff I got it you haven't even started
00:20:55this investigation Rick Dean could have had any number of people who wanted to harm him Ainsley don't
00:21:00you think I know that I gotta get back to this just please come down to the station tonight and
00:21:04give you a statement to Lena all right yes come through good luck we found this nearby what do you
00:21:12think yeah I just make sure did you know mr. doom was coming to your property today mr. Caldwell
00:21:19no I didn't I was surprised when I saw him I thought I made it clear I didn't want to do business with
00:21:25him then why did he say he was there he was pressuring me to sell the winery threatening me
00:21:31he threatened you how he claimed that he had information on the winery's illegal business
00:21:37practices which is ridiculous he said he would expose me if I didn't sell so there was no basis
00:21:43to his accusations no but he could make things difficult for us cause delays and disrupt business
00:21:50even if he was just making false charges we're struggling a bit right now and I'm not even
00:21:56sure why but some bad press like that could be devastating how did you react to these threats
00:22:02I was angry so you argued I didn't kill him I didn't even touch him I told him to get off my
00:22:12property I left the tasting room and then I went straight to the barrel cellar to work and cool off
00:22:17I suppose so but that's the last time I saw him in the tasting room and very much alive how long
00:22:26were you in the cellar not long I was talking to barrels and was doing a bad job of it I should
00:22:35have waited for Danny to get there tomorrow but I was impatient and I was just spilling all over the
00:22:42place I realized I wasn't getting anywhere so I stopped so Danny wasn't with you no it was his day
00:22:54off so what'd you do next I took a shower and then I was heading into the house and that's when I heard
00:23:02Shannon scream and I ran into the tasting room is it normal that you would take a shower there and not
00:23:08at the house I was covered in wine and I didn't want to put my coat on over it what did you do
00:23:13with your clothes I threw them in the washer there do you usually wash your clothes in the winery building
00:23:17no but it was just easier there was already a load and I just threw my clothes in there and started
00:23:25it that's all there is to it where did these clothes come from I always keep a change of clothes in my
00:23:30locker in case something like this happens that all sounds a bit convenient Mr. Caldwell that's the
00:23:35point it was convenient for me to change there and not go into my house smelling like wine or
00:23:40convenient to clean up blood by showering and putting your bloody clothes in the washer no tell
00:23:45us the truth it will go a lot easier on you Mr. Caldwell I am telling you the truth
00:23:49can't you stop this
00:23:53I think you need a turning mic
00:23:57they said you were busy I asked if I could wait I should get a better gatekeeper
00:24:19uh wouldn't work on me I'm so tiny I'd slip right past him
00:24:22I gotta finish up here to get over and read the medical examiner's report
00:24:27may I see Michael
00:24:29no
00:24:30have you already questioned him
00:24:31yes Ainsley
00:24:32you cannot be involved in this
00:24:34I know that Shannon's your best friend and that you're very close with Michael
00:24:37so are you
00:24:38we all do sports together
00:24:40do sports
00:24:41whatever
00:24:42I'm into fitness not sports
00:24:44look I can help you I'm a criminologist and you need one right now
00:24:48the reason you left Chicago was to get away from all this you were hurt badly
00:24:53I was hurt because I got close to something I shouldn't have
00:24:57exactly and I brought you here to get you out of the public eye and to keep you safe
00:25:01but I can't
00:25:01no no no you just can't okay
00:25:03look I know how talented you are and how valuable you were to the Chicago police department as a consultant
00:25:10but I also know that I don't know what I would ever do
00:25:12if anything were to ever happen to you
00:25:17good morning George
00:25:34I hope you weren't with Ainsley yesterday for all that dreadful business
00:25:39no he wasn't and you heard
00:25:42we've all heard
00:25:43wow word travels fast around here
00:25:47well we were all concerned about you Ains
00:25:49Shannon and Michael too
00:25:51I can't imagine how horrible that must have been for you Ainsley
00:25:54you too Danny
00:25:55oh
00:25:56oh no child
00:25:57were you there too
00:25:59yeah I came in after being in town
00:26:00has your brother talked to you about the investigation
00:26:04does anyone believe Michael was involved
00:26:06I know
00:26:07and I wish you could provide an alibi for him
00:26:10believe me so do I
00:26:11what can you tell us Ainsley
00:26:14uh nothing really
00:26:16well that's deeply unsatisfying
00:26:19we all just want to help
00:26:21yeah I appreciate that I do
00:26:23it's just that
00:26:24it's an active investigation that I'm not a part of
00:26:27so I can't tell you anything
00:26:28hey y'all
00:26:29what say we give Ainsley a break
00:26:31we've all got a busy day ahead of us

00:29:27has Michael told you about how the winery's been doing
00:29:30financially I mean
00:29:31I know he was talking to that Rick gang about investing
00:29:34yeah we've been doing okay
00:29:36but lately it's not okay enough
00:29:38I don't know what's happening
00:29:40but according to the books
00:29:41we're losing money
00:29:41I'm worried about keeping this place above water
00:29:43until Michael gets back

00:30:15this one's getting very old
00:30:16well at least I won't have to deal with you
00:30:18for much longer
00:30:18is that a threat?
00:30:22I think you know exactly what it is
00:30:24Miss Dean?
00:30:25yes
00:30:25I'm looking for Rachel Dean
00:30:27the deceased's wife
00:30:28that'd be me
00:30:29I'm Dr. Stevens
00:30:30the medical examiner for the county
00:30:32are you ready to identify the body?
00:30:35I'm his daughter Bridget Dean
00:30:37I'd like to be there too
00:30:38of course
00:30:39Nancy
00:30:47Kane, hey
00:30:48I was just in the area
00:30:50thought I'd drop by and say hi
00:30:51now's not a great time
00:30:52yeah I see that
00:30:54I'll wait
00:30:56hey
00:31:07what are you doing here?
00:31:22well I said I'd come by today
00:31:24didn't I?
00:31:25well today's almost over
00:31:27we closed half an hour ago
00:31:28technically still today
00:31:30well I'm just setting up for the book club
00:31:32oh right
00:31:34yeah that's tonight
00:31:35well this place is incredible
00:31:37thank you
00:31:39hey I didn't know you also set up the art gallery
00:31:42yeah we had almost a hundred people through today
00:31:45congrats
00:31:46so how's the investigation going?
00:31:52uh you know
00:31:52it's going
00:31:53well you're gonna go easy on Michael
00:31:55aren't you?
00:31:57go easy on him?
00:31:59he's a suspect in a murder case
00:32:00I'm gonna treat him like I treat anybody in that situation
00:32:02but you know he didn't do it
00:32:04no I don't actually
00:32:05and I've gotta let Lena take the lead on this
00:32:07cause if I do it
00:32:08it's just a conflict of interest
00:32:09Lena no
00:32:09she's new
00:32:10she doesn't know him at all
00:32:12exactly
00:32:12look
00:32:14I gotta go
00:32:16where?
00:32:17to continue the investigation
00:32:18oh
00:32:20congrats
00:32:21place looks great
00:32:22thank you
00:32:24you deserve it
00:32:26the victim was definitely hitting the back of the head
00:32:31causing blood force trauma
00:32:32the wine bottle
00:32:33there were fragments of glass
00:32:34matching the broken wine bottle
00:32:35found at the scene in the wound
00:32:36and of course
00:32:37wine scenes
00:32:38in his hair
00:32:39and on his clothes
00:32:40but there's no way he died
00:32:41from getting hit by a wine bottle
00:32:43that's the thing
00:32:43the blow from the wine bottle
00:32:45didn't kill him
00:32:45though it very likely
00:32:46knocked him unconscious
00:32:47at least
00:32:48temporarily
00:32:48so what was the cause of death?
00:32:50he was stabbed in his side
00:32:51chest level
00:32:52and it punctured the ventricle of his heart
00:32:54causing cardiac tamponade
00:32:55the bleeding was predominantly internal
00:32:57very little external bleeding there
00:32:59at the entry point for the stab wound
00:33:00which is about
00:33:01seven inches deep
00:33:02you think it was a knife?
00:33:04the shape of the wound
00:33:04and the fact that we found traces of glass in it
00:33:06makes it very likely it was from a shard
00:33:08from the same wine bottle?
00:33:10it appears so
00:33:10and the angle of entry makes it very likely
00:33:12the attacker was left-handed
00:33:14see the thing is
00:33:15we didn't find a shard that size
00:33:17to the crime scene
00:33:18or pieces with the amount of blood on them
00:33:20you'd expect to find from a stabbing
00:33:21so that means the murder weapon's missing
00:33:23great
00:33:27thanks Kate
00:33:30you just take a nice nap George
00:33:37you've had a full day
00:33:38I hope you've had enough to eat
00:33:40oh thanks to you
00:33:41he's stuffed
00:33:42I'm sure he'll pass out
00:33:43he's a growing boy
00:33:44he's five
00:33:45okay y'all
00:33:47let's get started
00:33:48it's so relaxing
00:33:51maybe we could
00:33:52one day
00:33:53it could possibly happen
00:33:54that's right
00:33:55nope
00:33:55then I would know how
00:33:57chapter two
00:33:58oh
00:33:58I'm here
00:33:59I'm sorry
00:33:59sorry sorry sorry sorry
00:34:01you made it
00:34:02hi
00:34:02hi hi hi hi
00:34:03hot time Maureen
00:34:07okay
00:34:09it is our first book club meeting
00:34:11at bless your arts
00:34:12and I want
00:34:14yes yes let's just get started
00:34:15no more speeches
00:34:16oh
00:34:17and don't slouch Ainsley
00:34:21you're a tiny little thing already
00:34:23yes
00:34:24well at least you still do your reading
00:34:26the good old-fashioned books though
00:34:27speaks well of you
00:34:29oh well
00:34:30thank you
00:34:31but I think plenty of folks
00:34:32enjoy reading on their electronic devices
00:34:34it's convenient
00:34:35it's barbaric
00:34:36it's actually the exact opposite of barbaric
00:34:40Mrs. Whedon
00:34:41I think there's plenty of room at our club for both Gladys
00:34:45the original widow's circle book club
00:34:48has to change with the times
00:34:50I mean look around
00:34:52there's so few of us left
00:34:54now I like the feeling of having a book in my hands
00:34:58the fun of turning the pages as you go
00:35:01and the satisfaction of reaching that last page
00:35:03and closing the book
00:35:05my point exactly
00:35:06Maureen
00:35:06but
00:35:07I don't think it matters
00:35:08how or what you read it on
00:35:10it's the actual reading that counts
00:35:12about that
00:35:13I actually didn't finish the book
00:35:15yeah I gotta admit
00:35:17I didn't finish it either
00:35:18me either
00:35:19sorry Mrs. Whedon
00:35:20how can we have a lively discussion
00:35:22if no one has read the book
00:35:23oh I read the book
00:35:25so did I
00:35:25did you read it
00:35:27Mrs. Whedon
00:35:28I've read enough
00:35:30but there's so much excitement going on right now
00:35:32and maybe we really would be better served
00:35:34if we used our time
00:35:35talking about the unfortunate event
00:35:36at the minery
00:35:37you mean the murder
00:35:38oh yes
00:35:40let's talk about that
00:35:40my nephew Kevin
00:35:43is deputy trainee
00:35:44at the sheriff's office
00:35:45we don't know Maureen
00:35:46you mention it at least once a day
00:35:48what's he told you about the case
00:35:49oh wait
00:35:50I don't think
00:35:51Kevin should be disclosing
00:35:52any information
00:35:52that might compromise
00:35:53the investigation
00:35:54fiddle sticks
00:35:55who is more on the pulse
00:35:57of what's happening
00:35:57in Sweet River
00:35:58than the widow circle
00:35:59and we're fortunate
00:36:00to have Maureen here
00:36:02thank you Gladys
00:36:03well
00:36:04Kevin tells me
00:36:05the medical examiner
00:36:07determined
00:36:07Rick Dean
00:36:08died by being stabbed
00:36:10not by being hit
00:36:11by the bottle
00:36:11really
00:36:12I mean
00:36:13I mean
00:36:14Kevin really shouldn't
00:36:15be telling you
00:36:15things like that
00:36:16he's a good boy
00:36:17and he's so easily
00:36:18bribed with chocolate chip cookies
00:36:20he's one of my students
00:36:22and he does share
00:36:24those cookies in class
00:36:25I told him
00:36:25to take your criminology class
00:36:27how's he doing
00:36:27oh I
00:36:28I can't
00:36:28we're off topic ladies
00:36:30anything else
00:36:32Maureen
00:36:32yes
00:36:33they haven't
00:36:35found the murder weapon
00:36:36those sound like
00:36:37important clues to me
00:36:38especially if and when
00:36:40they do find
00:36:41the murder weapon
00:36:41I watch a lot of
00:36:45mysteries on TV
00:36:46it helps calm me down
00:36:48at the end of the day
00:36:48that would keep me up
00:36:50yeah me too
00:36:50I have to read
00:36:51before I go to bed
00:36:52just
00:36:53not this book
00:36:54okay
00:36:54I think I need to
00:36:55stop this conversation
00:36:56my brother would not
00:36:58as a criminologist
00:36:59aren't you the least
00:36:59bit curious dear
00:37:01and your best friend's
00:37:02husband's accused
00:37:03of the crime
00:37:04well I really like
00:37:05Michael but
00:37:05how can we even be sure
00:37:07we don't have to be sure
00:37:08because my brother
00:37:10and the sheriff's department
00:37:11is gonna find out
00:37:12what happened
00:37:12and make sure
00:37:13that the proper person
00:37:14is brought to justice
00:37:15it can't hurt anything
00:37:16easily to just discuss it
00:37:18we might be able
00:37:19to come up with
00:37:20something that could
00:37:21help Ryan
00:37:21yeah
00:37:22okay
00:37:26but only on two conditions
00:37:28one
00:37:29nothing we discuss here
00:37:31leaves this room
00:37:32or the fact that
00:37:32we're even discussing it
00:37:33and two
00:37:34we don't do anything
00:37:36to interfere with
00:37:37or impede
00:37:37the sheriff's investigation
00:37:39fine
00:37:39those of us here tonight

00:39:49earlier
00:39:49and
00:39:49I'm sorry
00:39:55I'm acting like
00:39:55Trump with socks
00:39:56on a rooster
00:39:56I'm so sorry
00:39:57it's totally fine
00:39:59you look great
00:40:05thank you
00:40:07so do you
00:40:08well I'm
00:40:10just trying to relax
00:40:11and enjoy a nice meal
00:40:12that sounds good
00:40:14I'm always in the mood
00:40:20for some of
00:40:21Dooley's Tex-Mex
00:40:22best in the county
00:40:23folks come from
00:40:24all over the place
00:40:24as they should
00:40:25you're a native here
00:40:36in town
00:40:37right
00:40:37yes
00:40:38yes
00:40:38born and bred
00:40:39family's been
00:40:40in Sweet River
00:40:41for generations
00:40:42you know I've never
00:40:44asked anyone
00:40:45how the town
00:40:46got its name
00:40:46I mean obviously
00:40:48the river runs
00:40:49through it
00:40:50well way back
00:40:51in the late 1800s
00:40:52they discovered oil
00:40:54a couple counties
00:40:54over near the river
00:40:55sweet crude oil
00:40:56and folks they started
00:40:58calling the river
00:40:58the Sweet River
00:40:59kind of out of luck
00:41:00but it stuck
00:41:01and then when this town
00:41:02grew up on its banks
00:41:03I think
00:41:04they just figured out
00:41:05a nice ring to it
00:41:06better than the
00:41:08Sweet Crude River
00:41:09I suppose
00:41:09that it is
00:41:11so you must be
00:41:18pretty busy
00:41:19being the fire chief
00:41:21and running
00:41:21your own store

00:44:48she poisoned Rick
00:44:50against me
00:44:50Bridget
00:44:51if you have

00:44:55didn't do it
00:44:56then the person
00:44:56you should be talking
00:44:56to is Bridget
00:44:57she's resented
00:44:59her father
00:44:59her whole life
00:45:00especially since
00:45:02he divorced
00:45:02his first wife
00:45:03she never even
00:45:04gave me a chance
00:45:05even though Richard
00:45:05and I were very
00:45:06happy together

00:45:08so you know
00:45:10Michael
00:45:10well no
00:45:12I met him
00:45:12at a dinner once
00:45:13I wouldn't say
00:45:14that I know him
00:45:14where were you
00:45:16when your husband
00:45:16was killed
00:45:16Mrs. Dean

00:45:19of an official
00:45:20capacity
00:45:20well
00:45:22no
00:45:24okay
00:45:24well
00:45:24then this interrogation
00:45:25is over
00:45:26okay
00:45:26if you have
00:45:27nothing to hide
00:45:27then why don't
00:45:28you just answer
00:45:28my questions
00:45:29I saw that you
00:45:30have a band-aid
00:45:31on your hand
00:45:31how did you get
00:45:32that cut
00:45:32that is none
00:45:33of your business
00:45:34Miss McGregor
00:45:48I do not take kindly
00:45:51to having my integrity
00:45:52questioned
00:45:53when that happens
00:45:56there are severe consequences
00:45:57hi George
00:46:17oh I'm so happy
00:46:19to see you too
00:46:20yes
00:46:20the date
00:46:22well
00:46:22kind of got interrupted
00:46:24it was off to a good start
00:46:26too
00:46:26but
00:46:26you know how I am
00:46:28when I get distracted
00:46:29we still had a nice dinner
00:46:30though
00:46:31okay
00:46:33I'm coming
00:46:34you gotta go out
00:46:35I got the message
00:46:39I'm coming
00:46:39there you go
00:46:45oh George
00:46:51what have I gotten
00:46:53myself into
00:46:54so think of a crime
00:47:06as a room
00:47:07with people inside
00:47:08and others outside
00:47:09and the people inside
00:47:11have their experience
00:47:12of what happens
00:47:13from the perspective
00:47:14of where they are
00:47:15in the room
00:47:16when the crime happens
00:47:17their experience
00:47:18is subjective
00:47:19now the others
00:47:21the people on the outside
00:47:23the investigators
00:47:23the criminologists
00:47:24the forensics team
00:47:25they're all viewing the room
00:47:27as two-dimensional
00:47:29like a photograph
00:47:30uh okay
00:47:32so your job
00:47:33as a criminologist
00:47:34is to observe
00:47:35everything you can
00:47:36from this spot
00:47:37but then also
00:47:38put yourselves
00:47:39into the perspectives
00:47:40of the people
00:47:41inside the room
00:47:41all right
00:47:42class is done
00:47:43uh don't forget
00:47:44to read your
00:47:45observational study sheets
00:47:46that I gave you
00:47:47for next class
00:47:47professor mcgregor
00:47:55can we speak to you
00:47:56please
00:47:56lily sure

00:47:59your book club
00:47:59and we'd like to
00:48:01join and help
00:48:01with the investigation
00:48:02uh it's not
00:48:04my book club

00:48:09gladys whedon
00:48:10she's my grandmother
00:48:11oh
00:48:13of course she is
00:48:14she knows
00:48:15I'm studying criminology
00:48:16and thought it would
00:48:16be a good idea
00:48:17for me to attend
00:48:17the meetings
00:48:18your next one's
00:48:19tomorrow night
00:48:19right
00:48:19uh yeah
00:48:20but I don't think
00:48:21it would be a good idea
00:48:22for the two of you
00:48:23to be a part of it
00:48:23especially you
00:48:25kevin
00:48:26my brother would be
00:48:27irate if he found out
00:48:28then we won't tell him
00:48:29he never lets me help out
00:48:30with anything important
00:48:31well that's because
00:48:32you're an intern
00:48:33at the sheriff's station
00:48:34deputy trainee
00:48:35I know we can help
00:48:37solve the case
00:48:38and we'll get to see
00:48:39what you're teaching us
00:48:39in real life
00:48:40we're not solving the case
00:48:41the sheriff's department is
00:48:43and you say nothing
00:48:44in my class
00:48:44well my grandmother
00:48:45said she saw that

00:48:52maureen have been snooping
00:48:52they're good snoopers
00:48:54and that's why we want
00:48:55to come to the meetings
00:48:55so we can help figure out
00:48:56what's important
00:48:57and what's not
00:48:58have you asked your parents
00:48:59about this
00:49:00we're adults
00:49:01we can drive
00:49:02we can vote
00:49:03and we can attend meetings
00:49:04right
00:49:05okay you can come
00:49:08and observe for now

00:50:13would you like some coffee

00:50:21you'd float upstream
00:50:22grandma was crazy about me
00:50:24true

00:50:27quit stalling
00:50:28what are you doing
00:50:30and I feel like
00:50:32that's too broad

00:52:16between her and her father
00:52:17and they had a number

00:52:40I don't want you to
00:52:44get hurt
00:52:44I know
00:52:45and what happened
00:52:47in Chicago
00:52:48was terrifying
00:52:49but I don't want to live
00:52:50the rest of my life
00:52:51in fear
00:52:51you shouldn't be taking
00:52:52unnecessary risks
00:52:53if I'm helping
00:52:54if my best friend
00:52:56needs me
00:52:56it's not unnecessary
00:52:57yeah I'm an adult
00:52:59I can drive
00:53:01I can vote
00:53:01where did that come from
00:53:04yeah I know
00:53:05it sounded way better
00:53:06when my students said it
00:53:07okay look
00:53:09I know you don't have
00:53:11the murder weapon
00:53:12and that Rick Dean
00:53:13died by a stab wound
00:53:14to the side
00:53:15Michael's prints
00:53:16were on the shards
00:53:17that we found
00:53:17at the crime scene
00:53:18Ryan Michael's prints
00:53:19are gonna be on
00:53:19all of the bottles
00:53:20he put those bottles
00:53:21on the shelves
00:53:22in the tasting room
00:53:23you know that
00:53:23of course I know that
00:53:24what we need to be asking is
00:53:26how did Rick
00:53:27get to the winery that day
00:53:28his car wasn't there
00:53:30did he take a car service
00:53:31a taxi
00:53:32why would he do that
00:53:33we're checking out
00:53:34the car services
00:53:35for someone could have
00:53:36been with him
00:53:37someone who killed him
00:53:38I promise
00:53:39I'm gonna look into
00:53:40all of it
00:53:41I'm pretty good
00:53:42at this stuff too
00:53:42if you recall
00:53:43no you're great at it
00:53:44but together
00:53:45we'd be phenomenal
00:53:46look we know
00:53:48the crime must have
00:53:49occurred a short time
00:53:50before Shannon
00:53:50and I got to the scene
00:53:51when I went to check
00:53:53for the pulse
00:53:53the body was still warmish
00:53:55rigor hadn't set in
00:53:56now I know it doesn't
00:53:58look good for Michael
00:53:59he was close by
00:54:00the thing that bugs me
00:54:02about Michael
00:54:02is that he's right handed
00:54:03yeah you would have
00:54:04to use your dominant hand
00:54:06to have the force
00:54:06to stab someone
00:54:07the way Rick Dean
00:54:08was stabbed
00:54:08yeah
00:54:09we have to find
00:54:10that murder weapon
00:54:11well I'm headed
00:54:12to the winery now
00:54:13with a search warrant
00:54:14oh well I'm coming
00:54:15what
00:54:16no you're not
00:54:17not with me
00:54:18yes I am
00:54:19I am going to be there
00:54:20for my friend
00:54:21stand by her side
00:54:23thank you for coming
00:54:28here today Mr. Preston
00:54:29you've given me
00:54:30a lot to think about
00:54:31I'm very sorry
00:54:32about your personal
00:54:32troubles
00:54:33I would like for my
00:54:34company to take away
00:54:34your financial worries
00:54:36regardless of what
00:54:36happens with your husband
00:54:37he's innocent
00:54:38oh sure he is
00:54:39sadly the justice system
00:54:42does move very slowly
00:54:43I know the financials
00:54:46I shared with you
00:54:46earlier don't look good
00:54:48but I promise you
00:54:49that is just a blip
00:54:50we were actually doing
00:54:51really well before
00:54:52I am aware
00:54:53of the vagaries
00:54:54of business
00:54:54I will do more
00:54:55due diligence
00:54:55but I am confident
00:54:56that I can make you
00:54:57a fair price
00:54:57for the winery
00:54:58a win-win
00:54:59as I like to say
00:55:00that's a huge relief
00:55:02what's this

00:55:09good morning Mrs. Caldwell

00:55:24it's gonna be fine
00:55:26I'll stay with you
00:55:27what are they looking
00:55:32for
00:55:32the murder weapon
00:55:35Mr. Preston
00:55:37I am so sorry
00:55:38about all of this
00:55:38I don't know
00:55:40what to say
00:55:40your personal business
00:55:43is exactly that
00:55:44personal
00:55:45and none
00:55:45of my business
00:55:46now it doesn't
00:55:47deter my desire
00:55:48to purchase the winery
00:55:49nor my commitment
00:55:50to you
00:55:51to make a fair price
00:55:52win-win
00:55:53I will be in touch
00:55:55I will think
00:55:57positive thoughts
00:55:58for you
00:55:58you're selling
00:56:01the winery
00:56:01I don't know
00:56:04I might have to
00:56:05this is all
00:56:06so overwhelming
00:56:07no you have
00:56:08you have Danny
00:56:09and we can pitch in
00:56:10and help you
00:56:11until Michael's back
00:56:12if Michael gets back
00:56:13Shannon you can't
00:56:14think that way
00:56:14we're gonna prove
00:56:15that Michael is innocent
00:56:16we're gonna find out
00:56:17who really did this
00:56:18you don't have to sell
00:56:19there's more to it
00:56:21than that
00:56:21the winery
00:56:23the winery
00:56:23has been slipping
00:56:23for a few months
00:56:24now
00:56:24we're falling
00:56:25deeper and deeper
00:56:26into the red
00:56:26I didn't want to say
00:56:28anything before
00:56:29because
00:56:30I was just embarrassed
00:56:31yeah
00:56:33how's that possible
00:56:34you said that
00:56:35you had your best
00:56:36summer in sales
00:56:37and I watched
00:56:38the bottles
00:56:39fly off the shelves
00:56:40I don't get it either
00:56:41the numbers don't lie
00:56:43I mean
00:56:43that's why
00:56:44Michael was talking
00:56:45to Rick Dean
00:56:46in the first place
00:56:47neither of us
00:56:47ever liked him
00:56:48because he was
00:56:48so desperate
00:56:49fortunately
00:56:51Mr. Preston
00:56:52has come along now
00:56:53yeah
00:56:54who's that Preston guy
00:56:55he's got some
00:56:56big company in Houston
00:56:57like Rick Dean
00:56:59yeah but much bigger
00:57:00wineries are a small
00:57:02part of their portfolio
00:57:03but they're looking
00:57:03to grow it
00:57:04what's his main business
00:57:07like all the big
00:57:09companies in Texas
00:57:10oil
00:57:10then what's he doing
00:57:16here in hell country
00:57:16what does that mean
00:57:23sheriff
00:57:24I gotta call you back
00:57:25what do you got
00:57:27we found this bloody
00:57:28shirt inside
00:57:28Michael Caldwell's
00:57:29locker
00:57:29and inside that
00:57:31shirt
00:57:31shard of glass
00:57:33bingo
00:57:34okay so we found
00:57:38the murder weapon
00:57:38with the discovery
00:57:46of the murder weapon
00:57:47in Michael's locker
00:57:48the sheriff's office
00:57:49really doesn't have
00:57:50any choice
00:57:51but to charge Michael
00:57:52but Michael
00:57:53didn't do this
00:57:54he couldn't
00:57:55and I've known him
00:57:56since he was a boy
00:57:57he's as fine a man
00:57:58as there is
00:57:59in this town
00:57:59thank you
00:58:00Mrs. Whedon
00:58:01we're here
00:58:03Aunt Maureen
00:58:03oh
00:58:05good
00:58:06I'm so glad
00:58:07you came
00:58:07we do really
00:58:08want to help
00:58:08hi grandma
00:58:09the more
00:58:10the merrier dear
00:58:11grab a chair
00:58:12does that invitation
00:58:14apply to me too
00:58:14how did you know
00:58:17about the
00:58:18never mind
00:58:21sweet river
00:58:22anyone who wants
00:58:24to help is welcome
00:58:24especially you
00:58:26okay whenever we
00:58:31start an investigation
00:58:32the first thing
00:58:33we need to determine
00:58:34is who our most
00:58:35likely suspect is
00:58:36so who had
00:58:37means motive
00:58:38and opportunity
00:58:39exactly
00:58:40well I think
00:58:41we start with
00:58:41Rachel Dean
00:58:42from all I've been
00:58:43hearing she wasn't
00:58:43very happy with him
00:58:44right
00:58:45and Rick
00:58:46with the encouragement
00:58:46of his daughter Bridget
00:58:48was planning on
00:58:48divorcing Rachel
00:58:49he recently told her that
00:58:50sounds like her money tree
00:58:52was going away
00:58:53well Bridget thinks
00:58:54that Rachel killed her dad
00:58:54she was willing to talk to you
00:59:05only all too willing
00:59:06she was in a horn tossing mood
00:59:08she said that she was
00:59:09absolutely sure that
00:59:10Rachel had killed Rick
00:59:11said that he told Rachel
00:59:13that not only was he
00:59:14going to divorce her
00:59:15but he was going to cut her
00:59:15out of the will
00:59:16and leave everything to Bridget
00:59:17of course
00:59:18you know
00:59:19you didn't get the chance
00:59:19to do that
00:59:20so it all still goes
00:59:21to Rachel
00:59:21yeah but Bridget
00:59:22said she's going to fight it
00:59:23she still harbors
00:59:24a lot of anger
00:59:25towards her father
00:59:26for leaving her mother
00:59:26and for you know
00:59:27leaving her too
00:59:28that's motive for Rachel
00:59:30and maybe Bridget
00:59:31yeah but
00:59:32why would Bridget
00:59:34kill him
00:59:34before he changed
00:59:35his will
00:59:36and made her
00:59:37his beneficiary
00:59:37maybe he wouldn't
00:59:38agree to do it
00:59:39and just made her
00:59:40madder at him
00:59:40and angry people
00:59:42do things
00:59:42they don't normally do
00:59:43I've got some information
00:59:44that I'd like to share
00:59:45Gladys and I
00:59:47have been doing
00:59:47some investigating
00:59:48snooping
00:59:49you might as well
00:59:50call her what it is
00:59:51snooping then
00:59:52we saw Rachel
00:59:54going to the dry cleaner
00:59:55the day after
00:59:56the murder
00:59:57we've been keeping
00:59:58an eye on her
00:59:58since she came to town
00:59:59yeah we think
01:00:00she still nickels
01:00:01off a dead man's eyes
01:00:02so we went in
01:00:03to see Fred
01:00:04he's been doing
01:00:05the dry cleaning
01:00:05for years
01:00:06mind here
01:00:06he does a really good job
01:00:07but he did lose
01:00:08that button
01:00:09uh Maureen
01:00:10what did you two
01:00:11find out
01:00:11she brought a dress
01:00:13in that had
01:00:14wine stains on it
01:00:15said it was
01:00:16couture
01:00:16and
01:00:17couture
01:00:17and he better
01:00:19not ruin it
01:00:19said she spilled
01:00:20a bottle
01:00:20but Fred said
01:00:21you don't spill
01:00:22wine the way
01:00:23that dress looked
01:00:24almost like
01:00:24it exploded
01:00:25like it would
01:00:27have you hit
01:00:27somebody over
01:00:27the head with it
01:00:28I'd say so
01:00:29how did she
01:00:30get to the winery
01:00:31she wasn't there
01:00:32when he found
01:00:32the body
01:00:32right anything
01:00:33no she wasn't
01:00:34but
01:00:34she could have
01:00:35come with him
01:00:36and left in that
01:00:36car after she
01:00:37killed him
01:00:37yeah that's
01:00:38certainly possible
01:00:39and Ryan told me
01:00:40that the wound
01:00:40was inflicted
01:00:41by the attacker's
01:00:42left hand
01:00:42Rachel had
01:00:44a bandage
01:00:44on her left
01:00:45hand
01:00:45I saw it
01:00:45at the diner
01:00:46if you stabbed
01:00:47someone with a
01:00:48shard of glass
01:00:48you'd almost
01:00:49certainly cut
01:00:49yourself
01:00:50well unless
01:00:50you weren't
01:00:51gloves
01:00:51well Rachel
01:00:51had gloves
01:00:52I saw them
01:00:53in her pocket
01:00:53and there was
01:00:54a small tear
01:00:55in the index
01:00:56finger of the
01:00:56left hand
01:00:57sorry uh
01:00:57quick question
01:00:58how did you
01:00:59see them
01:01:00if they're
01:01:00in your pocket
01:01:00observational
01:01:02technique
01:01:03you don't
01:01:03miss a thing
01:01:04it's a big
01:01:04part of being
01:01:05a criminologist
01:01:06yeah
01:01:09it's impressive
01:01:11sounds like
01:01:13snooping to me
01:01:14well the evidence
01:01:16points to Rachel's
01:01:16hand injury as being
01:01:17something more than
01:01:18a coincidence
01:01:19I'm sorry for
01:01:20Rick Dean but I
01:01:21really hope all this
01:01:22is true
01:01:22for Michael's sake
01:01:24of course
01:01:24are we missing
01:01:26anybody else as
01:01:27a suspect
01:01:27did Rick Dean
01:01:29have other enemies
01:01:30maybe business
01:01:30rivals
01:01:31excuse me a guy
01:01:32like that
01:01:32I'd have an
01:01:32enemies list
01:01:33a mile long
01:01:34Shannon why do
01:01:35you think Rick
01:01:36was so keen
01:01:36on buying the
01:01:37winery
01:01:37I don't know
01:01:39when we first
01:01:40met him he was
01:01:40very charming
01:01:41and then when
01:01:43we told him we
01:01:43weren't interested
01:01:44in selling
01:01:44we were just
01:01:45seeking an
01:01:46investment he
01:01:46became very
01:01:47aggressive
01:01:48he's probably
01:01:49a man not
01:01:49used to hearing
01:01:50no I mean
01:01:51the winery is
01:01:52well run and
01:01:52it makes good
01:01:53wine isn't that
01:01:54enough to justify
01:01:54his interest in
01:01:55it
01:01:55maybe but
01:01:57something just
01:01:58doesn't feel
01:01:59right
01:01:59all the evidence
01:02:01is pointed to
01:02:01Rachel but I
01:02:02feel like we're
01:02:02missing another
01:02:03suspect and I
01:02:04think it has to
01:02:05do with why
01:02:06Rick was so
01:02:06intent on buying
01:02:07the winery
01:02:08I need to do
01:02:09more digging
01:02:10it sounds like
01:02:11time for a break
01:02:12to anyone
01:02:13oh and cookies
01:02:14I've got lots
01:02:15of cookies
01:02:15love your
01:02:17oh
01:02:17okay well
01:02:19everyone can
01:02:20take a break
01:02:21then
01:02:21thank you
01:02:24for not
01:02:25putting Michael's
01:02:26name on the
01:02:27suspect list
01:02:28you know I
01:02:30ordered some
01:02:30more of those
01:02:31shirts in the

01:03:06to keep an eye
01:03:06on you and
01:03:07for good reason
01:03:08it seems
01:03:09okay but the

01:03:13do is come in
01:03:13for a cup of

01:03:51I really like
01:03:51this shirt
01:03:51shirt
01:03:55Jake
01:03:56when did
01:03:57Danny come in
01:03:58to buy his
01:03:58shirt on
01:03:59Sunday
01:03:59I reckon
01:04:01a quarter to
01:04:02two
01:04:02came in the
01:04:03store and he
01:04:04bought a
01:04:04bought a new
01:04:04work shirt
01:04:05I remember
01:04:06thinking it
01:04:06was funny too
01:04:07because the
01:04:07shirt that he
01:04:07was wearing
01:04:08was way too
01:04:08big for him
01:04:09hmm that is
01:04:10funny
01:04:10Shannon and I
01:04:12discovered the
01:04:13body at 1.30
01:04:14we know the
01:04:15murder occurred
01:04:16shortly before
01:04:16that because
01:04:17as I told Ryan
01:04:18the body was
01:04:19still a bit
01:04:19warm
01:04:20what's it
01:04:2210 minutes
01:04:22from the
01:04:22winery to
01:04:23town
01:04:23about that
01:04:24yeah
01:04:25Danny arrived
01:04:26at the crime
01:04:26scene at 2.15
01:04:27I remember
01:04:28because I
01:04:28looked at my
01:04:29watch thinking
01:04:30Ryan and his
01:04:30team were
01:04:31working too
01:04:32slowly to
01:04:32process the
01:04:33scene and
01:04:33I was worried
01:04:34about Shannon
01:04:35but how does
01:04:37that explain
01:04:38the wine on
01:04:38Rachel's dress
01:04:39yeah she's
01:04:40still the most
01:04:41likely suspect
01:04:41at this point
01:04:42I called my
01:04:43brother from
01:04:43the car on
01:04:44the way over
01:04:44and they're
01:04:45all over it
01:04:46they recovered
01:04:47the dress before
01:04:48it was cleaned
01:04:49and they're
01:04:49bringing Rachel
01:04:50in
01:04:50it has to be
01:04:50her
01:04:51it has to
01:04:52be
01:04:52and from
01:04:52everything I
01:04:53heard Danny
01:04:53he's been
01:04:54nothing but
01:04:54good to
01:04:55Michael and
01:04:55Shannon
01:04:55since he's
01:04:56been in
01:04:56town
01:04:56I mean
01:04:57did he
01:04:57even know
01:04:58Rick Dean
01:04:58you're right
01:05:01and I could
01:05:03just see the
01:05:03look on my
01:05:04brother's face
01:05:04if I asked
01:05:05him to
01:05:05question Danny
01:05:06because he
01:05:07bought a
01:05:07shirt
01:05:08when all the
01:05:09evidence is
01:05:09pointing to
01:05:10Rachel
01:05:10no George
01:05:13you can't
01:05:14have any
01:05:14cake
01:05:14I'm sorry
01:05:15you remember
01:05:15what happened
01:05:16last time
01:05:17he literally
01:05:18ate
01:05:18I'm calling Ryan
01:05:35Jake the
01:05:37killer was
01:05:38just on my
01:05:38front porch
01:05:39I've told
01:05:44you I
01:05:45didn't kill
01:05:45my husband
01:05:46I couldn't
01:05:48I loved
01:05:48him
01:05:49and yet
01:05:49he was
01:05:50going to
01:05:50divorce
01:05:50you
01:05:51that never
01:05:52would have
01:05:53happened
01:05:53his daughter
01:05:56made him
01:05:57believe
01:05:57terrible
01:05:58false
01:05:59things
01:05:59I would
01:06:00have
01:06:01convinced
01:06:01him
01:06:01we
01:06:02checked
01:06:02into
01:06:02your
01:06:02personal
01:06:03finances
01:06:03you
01:06:04stood
01:06:04to
01:06:04lose
01:06:05a lot
01:06:05if you
01:06:05got
01:06:06divorced
01:06:06I
01:06:06didn't
01:06:06marry
01:06:07Rick
01:06:07for
01:06:07his
01:06:08money
01:06:08and I
01:06:08don't care
01:06:09about
01:06:09keeping
01:06:09it
01:06:09yes I've
01:06:11enjoyed this
01:06:11lifestyle but
01:06:12what really
01:06:13mattered to me was
01:06:14what really mattered to you was what
01:06:19was that he didn't trust me
01:06:22he wouldn't even listen to me
01:06:24he was under so much pressure because his business was failing
01:06:29he was determined to buy that stupid winery
01:06:32his business was failing
01:06:34yes
01:06:35he was a very proud man he was determined to save it
01:06:40and how would buying a winery in sweet river do that
01:06:44I don't know
01:06:45he didn't talk to me about that kind of stuff that was part of my frustration
01:06:49part of why I got so angry
01:06:52go ahead
01:06:59I know you have my dress
01:07:01I'm sure by now you know that the wine stains on it match the wine from the bottle Rick
01:07:06was hit with
01:07:06and you won't find my fingerprints on it because I was wearing gloves
01:07:10they're ruined now
01:07:12the glass from the bottle ripped a hole in them
01:07:16I cut my hand
01:07:17so you were at the winery the day that your husband was killed
01:07:22and you hit him with a wine bottle
01:07:24I drove over with him
01:07:26he was determined to get Michael to sell him to the winery
01:07:31whatever it takes he kept on saying
01:07:33we argued on the way over
01:07:35he asked me to wait in the car while he went into the tasting room to meet with Michael
01:07:39I was so scared by the look on his face when he got out of the car
01:07:45what happened next Mrs. Dean
01:07:48I saw Michael
01:07:50storm out of the winery
01:07:52Rick wasn't with him and I was scared
01:07:55so I went in to check on him
01:07:57when he was crazy
01:07:58I tried to calm him down
01:08:02I told him whatever happened
01:08:05it didn't matter
01:08:05as long as we had each other
01:08:07and he yelled at me
01:08:12he told me it was over
01:08:14everything was over
01:08:17I have a temper
01:08:21I'm not proud of it
01:08:24but in that moment
01:08:25all my frustration just
01:08:27boiled over
01:08:29it's okay
01:08:31I grabbed the wine bottle
01:08:35I hit him in the back of the head with it
01:08:38he went down immediately
01:08:40he was unconscious
01:08:41but I checked on him and he was alive
01:08:44he was alive
01:08:46I panicked
01:08:50I ran out
01:08:51I got in the car and
01:08:53I drove away
01:08:56I've been sorry ever since
01:09:00it's okay
01:09:04it's alright
01:09:07I expected from her
01:09:22but you
01:09:22well you were the one
01:09:24that told me to keep an eye on her
01:09:25I thought maybe I'd just
01:09:26help her with the case
01:09:27while I was keeping her safe
01:09:28it's not her case
01:09:29I'm right here
01:09:30and it was the book club's tip
01:09:31that helped you get Rachel's dress
01:09:33right?
01:09:34and you brought her in
01:09:34for questioning based on that?
01:09:36yeah
01:09:36she just confessed to
01:09:38hitting him with a bottle
01:09:39but not killing him
01:09:40right?
01:09:41no
01:09:42how did you know that?
01:09:44by observing her behavior
01:09:45she can flash anger
01:09:47but she recovers
01:09:48I can see her hitting her husband
01:09:50with a bottle
01:09:50in a moment of rage
01:09:51but I can't see her
01:09:52finishing him off
01:09:53by stabbing him
01:09:54she would consider
01:09:55what she'd done
01:09:56she'd stop
01:09:57that's exactly
01:10:00what she said
01:10:01somebody else killed
01:10:03Rick Dean
01:10:03somebody other than
01:10:05Michael Caldwell
01:10:05somebody left-handed
01:10:07and somebody who was
01:10:09on my property
01:10:10last night
01:10:11leaving that sign
01:10:12on my front door
01:10:13ready for another day
01:10:24George
01:10:24yeah
01:10:27morning

01:10:36what happened with
01:10:36Rachel Dean
01:10:37at the sheriff's office
01:10:38this morning?
01:10:39how did you
01:10:39um
01:10:41she confessed to
01:10:42hitting him with a bottle
01:10:43but not stabbing him
01:10:45and I believe that
01:10:46she wouldn't have
01:10:47the wherewithal
01:10:48to plant that murder weapon
01:10:49in Michael's locker
01:10:50Bridget Dean
01:10:51then
01:10:51no
01:10:52Bridget's your classic
01:10:53red herring
01:10:54good morning
01:10:55why was Rick Dean
01:10:58so desperate
01:10:59to buy the winery?
01:11:01you know
01:11:02Rachel told my brother
01:11:03that his own business
01:11:04was failing
01:11:04so
01:11:05how would buying
01:11:06a winery save it?
01:11:07hey Danny
01:11:10do you know
01:11:11this other potential
01:11:12buyer

01:11:14never heard of him
01:11:16but I wouldn't be
01:11:17likely to
01:11:17I'd never heard
01:11:18of Rick Dean either
01:11:19I studied winemaking
01:11:20and computer science

01:12:06found around here?
01:12:07no
01:12:07I mean there's
01:12:08rumors of oil
01:12:08west of town
01:12:09but it's never
01:12:11come to anything
01:12:11this is wine country
01:12:13we're nowhere close
01:12:14to the Permian Basin

01:12:17in Texas is found
01:12:17right

01:13:34one of my
01:13:35better traits
01:13:35I got your text
01:13:37what's up
01:13:37hey buddy
01:13:38do you know
01:13:39anything about
01:13:39seismic reflection
01:13:40and how to use
01:13:42it to detect
01:13:42whether there's
01:13:43oil underground
01:13:43nope
01:13:44not one of my
01:13:45better traits
01:13:46and not the
01:13:46first question
01:13:46I thought I'd
01:13:47get asked
01:13:47this morning
01:13:48well look at
01:13:49this
01:13:49you set off
01:13:50a small
01:13:51shaped explosion
01:13:52on a cleared
01:13:52area on the
01:13:53ground
01:13:53the shockwaves
01:13:55travel underground
01:13:55bounce off
01:13:56the different
01:13:56types of rock
01:13:57and return to
01:13:57the surface
01:13:58sensors interpret
01:13:59them to determine
01:14:00the underground
01:14:01layout as a
01:14:02possibility of a
01:14:02petroleum reservoir
01:14:03so you don't have
01:14:05the drill
01:14:05have you heard
01:14:07about the rumors
01:14:08of there being
01:14:08oil west of town
01:14:09oh sure yeah
01:14:10but nothing's
01:14:11ever come of that
01:14:11the Caldwell's
01:14:14winery is out west
01:14:15need to see if my
01:14:17brothers had any
01:14:17reports of unexpected
01:14:18activity out there
01:14:19no I can answer that
01:14:20fire department
01:14:21we had a report of
01:14:21an explosion
01:14:22a couple months
01:14:24ago near there
01:14:24we searched but
01:14:25we never found the
01:14:26source
01:14:27do you know who
01:14:31Jack Preston is
01:14:32well he looks
01:14:33familiar but no
01:14:33I don't think I
01:14:35met him
01:14:35he owns an oil
01:14:36company in Houston
01:14:36he was at
01:14:37Shannon's trying to
01:14:38buy the winery
01:14:39yesterday
01:14:39oh that's
01:14:40interesting
01:14:40yeah this is
01:14:41his social media
01:14:42that pictures of
01:14:44his wife and kids
01:14:45from a few years
01:14:46ago
01:14:47I'll be a dog
01:14:53Danny
01:14:54Danny Avery
01:14:57isn't Danny
01:14:58Avery
01:14:58he's Danny
01:14:59Preston
01:15:00Jack Preston's
01:15:01son
01:15:02you reckon
01:15:02I don't reckon
01:15:03I know
01:15:04and as grandma
01:15:05used to say
01:15:05we need to stop
01:15:06hollering down the
01:15:07well and get out
01:15:07to that winery
01:15:08we have a killer
01:15:09to catch
01:15:09I'm just gonna
01:15:12say it again
01:15:12I don't like
01:15:13that we didn't
01:15:13call Ryan
01:15:14we need proof
01:15:15well then we let
01:15:16the sheriff's office
01:15:16handle it
01:15:17the fire department
01:15:17they handle fires
01:15:18sheriff's office
01:15:18they handle proof
01:15:19of a crime
01:15:19Danny's father's
01:15:21gonna provide him
01:15:21an alibi
01:15:22I just know it
01:15:23we have to try
01:15:24to outsmart him
01:15:24I just want to
01:15:25go on record
01:15:25that my instincts
01:15:26say this is a bad
01:15:27idea
01:15:27well mine say
01:15:28that this is
01:15:29our best shot
01:15:29at being an
01:15:30innocent man
01:15:31Danny
01:15:36it's Ainsley
01:15:37what are you doing
01:15:39we're not sneaking
01:15:40up on him
01:15:40act normal
01:15:41if I were acting
01:15:42normal we wouldn't
01:15:43be here
01:15:43I'll protect you
01:15:45you are just
01:15:48like your brother
01:15:48stubborn as a mule
01:15:50with his heel
01:15:50caught in a stump
01:15:51oh that's a good one
01:15:52oh you like that
01:15:53one
01:15:53yeah
01:15:54Ainsley
01:15:55oh hey Ainsley
01:16:00Jake
01:16:01what are y'all
01:16:02doing out here
01:16:02Shannon's at the
01:16:03coffee shop
01:16:03are you going
01:16:04somewhere
01:16:04nah just
01:16:06cleaning up
01:16:06I want it to be
01:16:07nice when Michael
01:16:08gets back
01:16:09heard they brought
01:16:11Rachel Dean in
01:16:11I'm sure it's only
01:16:13a matter of time
01:16:13till they let
01:16:13Michael go
01:16:14Rachel didn't
01:16:15confess to the
01:16:16murder Danny
01:16:16well she must have
01:16:20been involved
01:16:20somehow
01:16:21when did you
01:16:23discover the oil
01:16:23Danny
01:16:24I don't know
01:16:26what you're
01:16:26talking about
01:16:26how did Rick Dean
01:16:27find out about it
01:16:28you're really not
01:16:30making any sense
01:16:31Ainsley
01:16:32well I kind of
01:16:33think she is
01:16:33Mr. Preston
01:16:35did Rick just
01:16:37get in the way
01:16:37or did he actually
01:16:38work in your favor
01:16:39I mean your father
01:16:41shows up right
01:16:41when it's looking
01:16:42most bleak for
01:16:43Shannon in the
01:16:43winery and
01:16:44makes a strong
01:16:45offer to buy it
01:16:45that's not what
01:16:46happened
01:16:46you've been
01:16:47working here
01:16:47long enough
01:16:48to have doctored
01:16:48the winery's books
01:16:49to make it look
01:16:50like it was
01:16:50starting to fail
01:16:51I did a little
01:16:52digging on the
01:16:53way over here
01:16:54and you're some
01:16:54kind of tech
01:16:55whiz aren't you
01:16:55you sure in
01:16:57college
01:16:57I've been nothing
01:16:59but good to
01:16:59Michael and Shannon
01:17:00since I've been
01:17:00here
01:17:01you've got it
01:17:01all wrong
01:17:02you got in
01:17:02way over your
01:17:03head and you
01:17:03panicked
01:17:04fortunately your
01:17:06father came
01:17:06picked you up
01:17:07and took you
01:17:08to town
01:17:08and then he
01:17:09gave you one
01:17:10of his shirts
01:17:10to wear
01:17:11while you changed
01:17:12out of the
01:17:12bloody one
01:17:13you were wearing
01:17:13and then y'all
01:17:15you pulled up
01:17:16in front of my
01:17:16store to get
01:17:16a new one
01:17:17and it's just a
01:17:18shame that you
01:17:19and your father
01:17:19aren't closer in
01:17:20size it wouldn't
01:17:20have stuck out
01:17:21as much
01:17:21you're not a
01:17:23bad person Danny
01:17:24you just did a
01:17:25bad thing that
01:17:25you never meant
01:17:26to happen
01:17:27I was just here
01:17:35to change the books
01:17:36and Rick Dean
01:17:37found out about
01:17:38it
01:17:38he knew my
01:17:39dad found
01:17:39oil out here
01:17:40he was desperate
01:17:41to save his
01:17:41company and he
01:17:42tried to get to
01:17:42the Caldwells
01:17:43first
01:17:43Rick he knew
01:17:44your secrets
01:17:44to your dad
01:17:45couldn't touch
01:17:46him
01:17:47I was going
01:17:50to head into
01:17:51town to meet
01:17:51my father
01:17:52he was here
01:17:53to make the
01:17:53offer to Michael
01:17:53and to pay off
01:17:54Rick Dean
01:17:55if that's what
01:17:55it was going to
01:17:55take I heard
01:17:57this ruckus
01:17:58coming from
01:17:58the tasting room
01:17:59and I saw
01:18:00Rachel Dean
01:18:01running out
01:18:01and driving away
01:18:02so I ran
01:18:03to the tasting room
01:18:04Rick was on
01:18:06the floor
01:18:06but he was
01:18:07coming to
01:18:08and getting
01:18:08to his feet
01:18:09and I told
01:18:09him that I'd
01:18:10help him
01:18:10that I'd call
01:18:11an ambulance
01:18:11but he lunged
01:18:12at me
01:18:13and said
01:18:14if he was
01:18:14going down
01:18:15so was I
01:18:15and so was
01:18:16my father
01:18:17he caught me
01:18:18off guard
01:18:18and knocked
01:18:18me to the
01:18:19ground
01:18:19he was out
01:18:21of his mind
01:18:21he was choking
01:18:23me
01:18:24I grabbed
01:18:30the nearest
01:18:31shard of glass
01:18:31and I stabbed
01:18:32him
01:18:32I panicked
01:18:34I called my dad
01:18:36and he came
01:18:36and got me
01:18:37but you have
01:18:37to believe me
01:18:38I never set
01:18:39out to hurt
01:18:39anyone
01:18:39I was going
01:18:41to make sure
01:18:41my dad paid
01:18:42a fair price
01:18:42and that the
01:18:43book stuff
01:18:43was just
01:18:43to encourage
01:18:44them to sell
01:18:44then why
01:18:45did you let
01:18:46the sheriff's
01:18:46office believe
01:18:47that Michael
01:18:47had done it
01:18:48my dad made
01:18:49me
01:18:49your dad
01:18:50made you
01:18:51Danny come
01:18:52on you're
01:18:53a grown man
01:18:54I was scared
01:18:54he convinced
01:18:56me that the
01:18:56best way
01:18:56to avoid
01:18:57being caught
01:18:57was to pin
01:18:58the blame
01:18:58on someone
01:18:58else
01:18:58that being
01:19:00caught
01:19:00would ruin
01:19:00my life
01:19:01I was trying
01:19:02to point
01:19:02you guys
01:19:03to Rachel
01:19:03but
01:19:03my life's
01:19:06ruined
01:19:06anyway
01:19:07my dad
01:19:08convinced
01:19:09me to plant
01:19:09the shard
01:19:09in Michael's
01:19:10locker
01:19:10Danny
