00:25to see the annual fireworks show kicking off 2026.
00:28It's a familiar spectacle, but this time follows a turbulent end to the year,
00:33marked by a rare, deadly stabbing attack and major Chinese military drills around Taiwan.
00:49The government seems to take a lot of precautions,
00:53so all the police everywhere and the metro trainings and stuff.
00:56So, I feel fine here.
00:58I mean, I feel more safe in Asia than I feel in Europe.
01:01But because it's raining today, it might be a little less.
01:04But I think it's not going to be affected by the terror attack.
01:08I think it's not going to be affected by the terror attack.
01:10I think it's not going to be affected by the terror attack.
01:12Over 1,300 police came out, including 27 SWAT teams and even two bomb detection dogs.
01:19A stark reminder that security is at the top of many people's minds.
01:23But none of that, nor of a bad weather, has kept people indoors tonight.
01:27About half a kilometer away from Taipei 101, people are celebrating,
01:31ushering in the new year, looking for a good time,
01:34and hopefully a bit more stability in the year to come.
01:36Happy New Year!
01:40Okay, to me, 2025 has been a really wonderful year.
01:45So looking forward to 2026, it's all going to be about better health
01:50and staying together with my family.
01:54I want to be more rich and more beautiful and more healthy.
01:59These sentiments shared by many around Taipei on New Year's Eve
02:15are a sign that faith in the police and in each other
02:18remains strong as the country moves into 2026.
