00:00On the curse of Oak Island.
00:02Oh, wow.
00:03What is that?
00:04That's exactly like the sticks we found near the vault.
00:06I truly believe there's still another vault there.
00:09Whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:10There it is, without a void.
00:11That's right.
00:12Is that natural, or is that an open cavern?
00:14Only a sonar could tell you that, really.
00:16All right, well, that's what we'll do.
00:17Hopefully we'll find the one thing.
00:18Cross your fingers.
00:19We're in the cavity.
00:20Yeah, you're in.
00:21We'd love nothing better than to see a man-made cavern or vault.
00:24We've got an opening.
00:25This is not natural.
00:30There is an island in the North Atlantic where people have been looking for an incredible treasure for more than 200 years.
00:40So far, they have found a stone slab with strange symbols carved into it.
00:46Man-made workings that date to medieval times.
00:50And a lead cross whose origin may be connected to the Knights Templar.
00:55To date, six men have died trying to solve the mystery.
01:00And, according to legend, one more will have to die before the treasure can be found.
01:08As a new day begins on Oak Island.
01:23Here we go.
01:25VN 13.5.
01:27This is an area that we really haven't looked at very much and certainly haven't been to the bottom of the solution channel in very much.
01:32Rick and Marty Lagina and their team are shifting their strategy to look for treasure more than 200 feet deep in the Money Pit area.
01:41Right in the heart of the Peacock.
01:43Yep.
01:44The Peacock is a real phenomenon.
01:46It's a loose, slushy area leading down into the solution channel.
01:50Good.
01:51They are drilling a borehole known as BN 13.5.
01:58Located 45 feet northeast from recent drilling locations.
02:03And in an area dubbed by Marty Lagina as the Peacock.
02:07So right at 55 is like the bottom dropped right out of her.
02:11It was here where three years ago the team drilled through heavily slushy material between 55 and 150 feet deep before entering the solution channel at a depth of nearly 170 feet underground.
02:27Now, in order to explore another area of the solution channel where new water tests have revealed more evidence of precious metals.
02:37The team is once again drilling down through the Peacock.
02:41The Peacock is almost like the solution channel sitting on top of the solution channel.
02:46It's a very low dense area of what I'm going to call Terry, a higher mud river.
02:53We never really drilled to the bottom as much as we should have, I believe.
02:58The Peacock is an area of significantly unconsolidated soils.
03:02Terry Matheson, a resident geologist, can explain how that can exist.
03:08There may be a tunnel or a shaft in close proximity which has caused the soils to destabilize.
03:16But the historical record does not indicate anyone being in this area, i.e. searchers.
03:23So, what happened here?
03:25What is the story and where is the treasure?
03:28I think we're in a really good area here. I really do.
03:31There's probably multiple number of holes that could put here.
03:34I agree with that 100%.
03:35And you know, until we actually hold the treasure in our hand, I'm not willing to rule out any area as possible.
03:40I totally agree.
03:41I totally agree.
03:42While the core drilling operation continues in the Money Pit area.
03:48Wow.
03:49Made some good progress.
03:51Yeah.
03:52Katya Drayton and Derek Couch join Billy Gerhardt in the southwest corner of the swamp.
03:59All right.
04:00We'll open this up a little bit to give us room that maybe you can get down and detect around a little bit.
04:05So, we'll start over here.
04:07Yep.
04:08We'll be where you dump and then I'll move there.
04:11The team is searching for artifacts that might help identify who built a stone formation uncovered in this area three weeks ago.
04:20As well as a possibly related stone road that was unearthed several yards to the north.
04:27Both of which were lined by wooden survey stakes.
04:38What is that?
04:39Oh, wow.
04:40We just found another steak.
04:41Oh, good.
04:42That's quite something.
04:43In place as well.
04:44Oh, my gosh.
04:45How many sides?
04:46Four cuts.
04:47It looks like one side is unfinished, but this reminds me of the five-sided steak we found earlier.
04:53This has been in here for a while.
04:54And what's most impressive of that one is that this steak was still standing at a very deep point in the swamp, so it's exactly where somebody put it.
05:06There's three feet of stuff on top of that, right?
05:07Yeah.
05:08It's cut with purpose.
05:09Yeah.
05:10And it's ax cut.
05:11Mm-hmm.
05:12You can see there now is a round pit down there, which is pretty hard to do with a square excavator bucket, so...
05:15As you were digging, it just kept falling in there.
05:16Right.
05:17So it does give you the inclination there's something down there.
05:18There's a round pit down there, which is pretty hard to do with a square excavator bucket, so...
05:20As you were digging, it just kept falling in there.
05:21Right.
05:22So it does give you the inclination.
05:23There's something down there.
05:24Right.
05:25I just pushed my bucket, and the stuff fell in, but now you can really see the shape of what
05:28it was when it was dug.
05:29So somebody dug a pit there, and it wasn't me.
05:30Yeah.
05:31Maybe that steak marked why they dug there.
05:32You know, who and why, right?
05:33Yeah.
05:34Yeah.
05:35Yeah.
05:36Yeah.
05:37Yeah.
05:38Yeah.
05:39Yeah.
05:40Yeah.
05:41Yeah.
05:42Yeah.
05:43Yeah.
05:44Yeah.
05:45Yeah.
05:46Yeah.
05:47Yeah.
05:48Yeah.
05:49Yeah.
05:50Yeah.
05:51Yeah.
05:52Yeah.
05:53Could Billy be correct that someone previously dug in this area and then marked it with a wooden
05:59stake?
06:00If so, could this stake be an important sign of what else the team may uncover here?
06:07Rick told us to keep an eye out for these, and we'll definitely have to get Steve out here
06:12to pin this.
06:13I think with the dating of the wood and the depth that we had it when Steve pins it, that
06:18Dr. Spooner might be able to put a date on, but that stake has to go back a long time.
06:22Hopefully there's more there, but that is a great start.
06:26Yeah.
06:27Maybe we could find an answer instead of a question.
06:29Yeah.
06:30So it would be nice to find some answers.
06:32We'll keep going.
06:33All right.
06:34As the dig in the swamp continues.
06:37Gary had done a complete scan of the Lot 5 spoil piles, and lo and behold, this item
06:43was found.
06:44Rick and other members of the team join Laird Niven and Emma Culligan in the lab for a report
06:51on a folded copper coin, or token, found one week ago in spoils that were removed from
06:57the round feature on Lot 5.
07:00You were quite excited about that.
07:02Yeah.
07:03When it came out, I'm thinking, oh, it's some kind of, like, folded coin I'm hoping.
07:10These are unusual.
07:11I have found these type of finds in England, metal detecting, and they're normally like talisman
07:18or good-look tokens that put out there.
07:22Sometimes they ward off even bad luck, but it was good luck for us because we found it.
07:28Yeah.
07:29Does it cross cultural lines or religious lines, meaning one faith might be more accepting
07:36of it, maybe more...
07:37I mean, Catholicism for sure, I would think.
07:40It's interesting because this tradition, I think the first recorded one in England is,
07:46like, 1290.
07:47You fold a coin and pray to a saint for a miracle, and that's how this all started.
07:53Yeah.
07:56The team has found a number of potentially religious artifacts in the round feature, such as the
08:0214th century lead barter token that may be linked to the Knights Templar.
08:07They have also found Phoenician trade beads and two ornate buttons that could be connected
08:13to the Knights of Malta, an order with known ties to the Templars, who built a stronghold
08:19in Nova Scotia back in 1632.
08:22We need to know from you what you think it is and what it represents and how old it might
08:29be.
08:30Okay.
08:31So, for the CT scan, I guess the main question that first needs answering is whether or not
08:38there's any reliefs or signs that it is a coin.
08:41Mm-hmm.
08:42And immediately, I'm going to say there's nothing that I can really see so far.
08:47Yeah.
08:48I mean, we can't definitively say it's a coin, but if we look at why coins are traditionally
08:55folded, it needs to have some value to give literal, like, weight to the talisman.
09:04So, we can assume it was valuable to somebody at some point.
09:08And then the triple folding is quite unusual.
09:11Yeah.
09:12We thought it would be fairly straightforward.
09:14Yeah, we did.
09:15Yeah.
09:16What does the data tell you the age of this item is?
09:20So, based on the composition, it is a copper alloy with a zinc content, zinc being an alloying
09:26element.
09:27It's definitively post-medieval and pre-mid 1800s.
09:32There's the arsenic and lead content as an alloying element as well, which is from at
09:37least around the time of, like, industrial revolution of mid-1700s, potentially earlier.
09:43And then the arsenic could push it to late 1600s.
09:52The arsenic could push it to the 1600s, late 1600s.
09:57The fact that someone took all that time to fold it over three times.
10:02I mean, it is significant.
10:04It is a meaningful artifact.
10:07In the lab, Emma and Laird have just revealed that the folded copper artifact found in the
10:16Lot 5 spoils may hold religious symbolism and date back to more than a century before the
10:22discovery of the money pit.
10:25And sometimes if it was disease, they'd put a bent over coin or token to ward off the disease.
10:33Yeah.
10:34Somebody went to some pains to do it then.
10:37Yeah.
10:38To me, it looks quite well done.
10:39Yeah.
10:40We're on an island, but it's a big province.
10:43Have you ever found anything like this on digs or know of any of our archaeological digs where
10:49they've found these type of offerings?
10:51Not that I can remember specifically in Nova Scotia from an archaeological context.
10:57Of course, we're on an island.
11:00Sailors came to the island.
11:02They were all superstitious, especially in the 1700s.
11:05True.
11:06Oh, there are a lot of possibilities.
11:08Obviously, the first one is just preparing for your voyage.
11:11Yeah.
11:12Yeah.
11:13Coming here from Europe was not an easy thing, right?
11:16Exactly.
11:17Yeah.
11:18My suspicion is that's intentional.
11:20It's folded perfectly.
11:22Yeah.
11:23And maybe three folds means something different than two folds.
11:26Yeah.
11:27Our research hasn't gone that far yet.
11:29Given the enormity of finds that date to the 1600s, there were buttons.
11:35Then you have the trade beats, right?
11:37And the dates you're implying are highly suggestive of the connection to the Knights of Malta.
11:44Their attempt to either create a colony here or to do something else.
11:50Given the potential symbolism of this artifact, could the team be correct that it might be related to the buttons and ornate trade beats that have been potentially linked to the order of the Knights of Malta?
12:05The folded coin is certainly the first of its kind on the island, but it's just a puzzle piece.
12:12How do you connect all of the artifacts in Lot 5 feature?
12:16It's starting to build a body of evidence, but I think in order to fully understand what happened on Lot 5, there's a lot more work to be done.
12:25But at some point, with enough puzzle pieces, then you can tell the complete story.
12:31Just love to know what's on the inside.
12:35And I'd like to see the puzzle completed.
12:38It's one of those little, innocuous-looking things that has a great story behind it.
12:43Mm-hmm.
12:44It was good luck that we found it.
12:46I think there's a lot of information that we can learn because of its uniqueness.
12:50Yeah.
12:51And don't forget Sandy Campbell.
12:52That's a good thought.
12:53Yeah.
12:54With Sandy, he's not just a numismatist, he's a historian.
13:00Yeah.
13:01And he might know the history of these coins.
13:03Exactly.
13:04So, I look forward to what we uncover.
13:07Or what we unfold.
13:08Pun intended.
13:11All right.
13:12See you.
13:14Bye.
13:15Bye-bye.
13:16Keep your eyes peeled here.
13:19Meanwhile, in the southwest corner of the swamp, Katya, Derek, and Billy continue to search for more artifacts near the stone formation.
13:29Yeah, Katya, there's a funny piece in that last bucket.
13:33Oh, yeah.
13:34Oh, my gosh.
13:36That's a something there, yeah.
13:39Piece of planking?
13:40That's a strand.
13:42The top looks maybe cut, but it's wide and it comes to a point like a wedge.
13:48No, it does.
13:49Yeah, it's tapered.
13:50Yeah.
13:51So, you know, somebody's spent some time to make it for a very special purpose, I would say.
13:56It's got a great groove right there, a bunch of little dents in it.
14:01I'm thinking it might be an oar or a paddle just because of the shape.
14:05Yeah.
14:06They're so close to the ship's rail, and maybe we get attest that it's some part of the same ship.
14:11If we find more pieces of the same one, that would be pretty telling to what actually went on in here.
14:17Yeah.
14:18A possible piece of an oar?
14:21Could Billy be correct that it may be related to the piece of a ship's railing found just a few yards to the east back in 2020,
14:30which was carbon dated to as early as the 7th century?
14:34If so, might all of the artifacts that the team is finding in this area be connected to the nearby stone feature?
14:43I think somebody will be able to look at that and look at the taper, whether it is an oar or a wedge or whatever it is, doesn't matter.
14:49Connect some dots.
14:50Yeah.
14:51We'll put this to the side.
14:52Definitely an interesting piece.
14:54Yep.
14:55It's what Marty says all the time, you know, facts are stubborn things, like the ship's railing, going back in the 600 ADs.
15:02It's very confusing, and we have data across the board from literally from the 1200s right up through 1750.
15:12In the bog with the types of constructions that have been found.
15:16That looks like another stake.
15:18Billy, got another stake right under you.
15:21My hope is that as the work continues in the bog, the gaps in that information will be filled in.
15:30That is one of those big round ones.
15:36This is probably one of the biggest stakes I've ever seen.
15:39We have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
15:48Eight sides.
15:49That reminds me exactly of the stakes we found near the vault.
15:53Definitely something going on here.
15:56The team has found dozens of wooden stakes across the swamp that have featured different numbers of cuts at their points.
16:03But when they uncovered the empty slate and brick vault in the northern region one year ago, it was after following a trail of eight sided cut stakes that lined a cobblestone path.
16:17Is it possible that this eight sided stake could be connected to that vault like feature?
16:24And could it mean another one that may still contain valuables is hidden in this area?
16:30It looked like it was about four feet down in that sand there.
16:33Yeah.
16:34The eight side ones are almost all that same, that really big circumference.
16:38The more sides that it has, based on the testing that we did in the island, the older that they tend to be.
16:43Yeah.
16:44Every bucket full now, we're finding something.
16:46There was a ton of activity right here.
16:48I'm sure we'll have a bunch of stuff to take back to the lab for everybody to look at.
16:52Well, that's another good find.
16:54Well, I'll put it over there and then we'll keep going.
16:57Oh, good eye, Derek.
16:58That's cool.
16:59As the sun rises over Oak Island.
17:04You ready to rock, Charles?
17:06Yeah.
17:07Here we go.
17:08In the Money Pit area, Terry and Charles monitor the core drilling operation in borehole BN 13.5, as it sinks deeper into the Peacock area.
17:25Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
17:28We've never had this much fallout.
17:31No.
17:32Yeah, it's too hard to tell if it's a void or if it's just water gravels.
17:37Yeah.
17:38Okay, Charles, it looks like you lost the core.
17:41Gone out the end of the core barrel.
17:43Okay.
17:44Here's Adam now.
17:46Hey, Adam, you lost that, right?
17:48Yeah.
17:49And no recovery.
17:50No recovery, no.
17:51Oh, man.
17:52We've pushed from 148 to 158, and the rods are sinking when I run the casing.
17:58They're sinking.
17:59We're in pretty loose material, obviously.
18:00It's loose.
18:01We're right in the heart of the Peacock.
18:02Yeah.
18:03So you're just going to try and push to 168 to try and get something solid?
18:06Yeah.
18:07Excellent.
18:08Great stuff.
18:09Thanks a lot.
18:10Good.
18:11Appreciate it.
18:12Interesting to see what we come up with on this one.
18:14We're excited about this because we're in the area where we got gold and silver in the water.
18:20And, you know, as we're drilling down, the mud and the muck is very loose and sloppy.
18:26Oh, yeah.
18:27Is it loose because of high activity by humans?
18:31That looks promising.
18:33Yeah.
18:34Is it possible that this could be an opening that was man-made?
18:38If it is, it's something we didn't know existed.
18:41Whatever was there, we got it.
18:43Right on.
18:44But it got hard at the bottom.
18:46Very sloppy at the top.
18:49Okay.
18:50All right.
18:51Let's carve this up.
18:52Okay.
18:53This is the firm bottom of this area of the Peacock.
18:56Right here.
18:57Yeah.
18:58And the bottom here is limestone-rich material.
19:00It's really only 10 feet of recovery for a whole 20 feet drilled all the way from 148 to 168.
19:07Definitely, we've got an effective water-filled void from about 148 to 158.
19:12You feel a little grave.
19:13Yeah.
19:14A possible 10-foot void above the solution channel?
19:18Peacock.
19:19If so, is it simply a natural feature?
19:22Or could it be a man-made chamber?
19:25I gotta go.
19:26Okay.
19:27What is a surprise is when we encounter a relative void, I mean, you think human activity in that
19:32area, this is shaping up to be a really interesting hole.
19:36Hey, Terry.
19:37How you doing?
19:38How's it going?
19:39Uh, we're loose from between 148 and 158.
19:44Relatively loose, washed-out material like what you'd expect down inside a solution channel.
19:48Okay.
19:49Relatively high, but this is possibly a void.
19:53Now, is that natural or is that an open man-made chamber?
19:57We don't know.
19:58Yeah.
19:59Also, we're getting elevated results for precious metals, associated copper-lead-zinc type of
20:05things that are associated with a treasure in the peacock.
20:08So, yeah, for me, I've always been a believer that there's an offset chamber in the money pit,
20:12and if there is an offset chamber, it makes sense it would be in this area.
20:16Exactly.
20:19The Oak Island team has long suspected that whoever built the money pit may have not only buried
20:24treasure at the bottom of the shaft, but also constructed a tunnel away from the main shaft
20:30to hide a cache of treasure in an offset chamber.
20:34Is it possible that this theory could explain the potential 10-foot void that the team has just
20:40encountered 148 feet deep in the peacock?
20:47So, what we found was an area with possibly a water-filled void.
20:52That's a candidate for a sonar, don't you think?
20:54I think so.
20:56Adam!
21:00Quick question.
21:01What's up?
21:02We had a bit of an open area, which I think of as a void.
21:06Yep.
21:07Is it a void?
21:08Only a sonar could tell you that, really.
21:10Yeah.
21:11Right?
21:12All right.
21:13Well, that's what we'll do.
21:14Yep.
21:15All right.
21:16So, if this proves fruitful, I can see this being a case on location.
21:17Yeah.
21:18We're not done with the peacock.
21:19Yep.
21:20Absolutely.
21:21As the team arranges to look deeper into borehole BN 13.5.
21:25I want to thank you for coming down.
21:29This, when Gary found it, it was coin-like.
21:32In the research center, Rick and other members of the team meet with coin expert Sandy Campbell.
21:39It's very peculiar.
21:40Again, a one-off.
21:42Yeah.
21:43To have him examine the folded copper artifact that was found on lot five.
21:48Never found another one of these on the island.
21:51So, I don't know.
21:52I'm hoping you can help us here.
21:54Okay.
21:57Yeah, this is extremely interesting.
22:00And it is a coin.
22:09Fold it three times.
22:12You know, when they first started folding coins, it was early medieval times.
22:17It represents a ritual that's thousands of years old.
22:21Yeah.
22:22It was thought that when you folded a coin, you could trap, you know, the evil inside the coin.
22:29And at some point when that evil has passed, if you pass the coin on or if you buried it, there was no more risk to you from that evil.
22:41Hmm.
22:42And it relates to Christianity, the Crusades, you know, even the Knights Templar.
22:49However, because of the size of this coin, it's not likely medieval.
22:54And this is probably 16, 17 hundreds.
22:58Really?
22:59But I think it still has the same religious and spiritual meaning.
23:08Fascinating.
23:09It's an interesting piece.
23:10Yeah.
23:11In the research center, Sandy Campbell has confirmed that the folded artifact found near the round feature on Lot 5 is indeed a coin.
23:24And maybe a 17th century religious symbol connected to the Knights Templar.
23:39Trapping evil. It seems like a strange ritual, right?
23:43Right.
23:44It's a bizarre ritual, but, you know, copper was really a show of wealth.
23:50And it was also a show of strength to anybody in medieval times.
23:54Hmm.
23:55So the only folded coins you will see from that period, you're not going to see folded silver or gold.
24:00They're always going to be copper.
24:02Really?
24:03Yeah.
24:04Folding the coins was also a ritual to honor saints.
24:08Hmm.
24:09The Knights Templar, they worshiped both St. George and St. Bernard.
24:14Yeah.
24:15And there was a ritual with folded coins where you would fold the coin, trap the evil, toss it away as an homage to those saints.
24:25Hmm.
24:26So it's bizarre that you have this piece on the island.
24:31I guess that ritual continued into the 1600s.
24:37Really?
24:38Yeah.
24:39So you feel that this is probably 1600s?
24:42At the earliest.
24:44So my mind always goes to the Knights of Malta.
24:48Interesting.
24:49Which is one of our suspects on the island.
24:52That falls right in that time period.
24:54Hmm.
24:55Is it possible that this folded copper coin might offer another key clue that sacred treasures of the Knights Templar and the religious order of the Knights of Malta may be connected to the Oak Island mystery?
25:09Sandy Campbell's statement that the trifold goes back to medieval times during the time of the Templars.
25:18It's very curious.
25:19We have proven, in fact, that the Knights of Malta had interactions and even through families of great importance with the Templars.
25:29And there was a connection between the two.
25:32So there is a possible tie there.
25:35There's more research to be done.
25:37It's strange because there are some, I believe, Lord, correct me if I'm wrong, but that feature that you've uncovered.
25:44It's basically east to west, is it not its orientation?
25:47The long axis.
25:48We know from the churches we visited and the historical places when we went to Europe.
25:53All Templar-associated buildings and constructions were east-west orientation.
26:00It's interesting, different, and adds to the mystery.
26:06There's no way to unfold that coin, physically unfold it.
26:10My initial response is you folded it to capture evil.
26:15Yeah, so if you back it up.
26:17Yeah, you're on your own there.
26:20I don't know what's in there.
26:23No, it's unfortunate that we can't learn more about it.
26:27You know, the hope is, as the work continues on Lot 5, because you're not done, we find others.
26:33And hopefully they'll be able to tell us something a little bit more than what's currently in front of us.
26:39Exactly.
26:40So we thank you very much for coming down.
26:42I appreciate it.
26:43After the meeting in the research center.
26:46I'm really expecting to find some good things in here.
26:50Then this really should be a potential for a high traffic area.
26:53While members of the team search for more clues in the round feature on Lot 5.
26:58We'll see what today brings.
26:59Yeah, let's see.
27:00Rick and Katya arrive on Lot 8, located on the western side of the island.
27:06Let's have at her.
27:07High five before we start.
27:09Two weeks ago.
27:11Perfect.
27:12All right, Gary, here's our first location.
27:14Okay, Mike.
27:15While the team searched for clues on a straight line that led away from a potential 12th century marker stone on Lot 5.
27:22Gary and Peter found part of a possible barrel on Lot 8.
27:27Now, Rick wants to see if that find might be related to something more valuable buried nearby.
27:34Oh.
27:35That's a hit.
27:36Right there.
27:37Face.
27:38It's looking to be iron.
27:41Let's see.
27:42There you go.
27:43Oh.
27:44Oh.
27:45Look at that.
27:51it's looking to be iron
28:00let's see
28:04there you go
28:07oh
28:10look at that
28:13what is this
28:16I don't know
28:18looks like two holes in it right there
28:20yeah
28:21not heavy enough to be a tool though is it
28:25I think this might be a knife handle
28:27because there's another hole down here
28:29oh yeah
28:30yeah you'd possibly have like another side to this
28:33and then you'd have the blade starting up there
28:36you can really see how both of the holes are
28:40square on each side
28:43your father has always said that
28:46square holes imply a hole there
28:47yeah
28:49well I know one thing
28:51I'd like to see that on a CT scan right
28:53I would definitely agree with you
28:56well we'll bag this
28:57yeah
28:58tag it
28:58right
29:00there are all kinds of questions
29:02about lot 8
29:03in this particular location
29:05there is no data or no record
29:08that people were in this area doing something
29:11following the discovery of the money pit
29:13all right
29:14thank you
29:15it's a good start
29:17so anything you find
29:18almost literally anything
29:20is an important clue
29:22in terms of
29:23who might have been there
29:25and when
29:26that's what mine's good
29:35yeah
29:35yeah
29:35oh yeah
29:37right here
29:39two-way repeatable
29:41right
29:42yep
29:42that was a beautiful bug
29:52even I know
29:56that's a good one
29:57now that is an interesting piece
30:07what is that
30:09I've never found one of these before
30:13this is a
30:15lead bag shoe
30:16this is great
30:19on lot 8
30:21of Oak Island
30:22Rick and Katya
30:23have made what could be
30:24an important discovery
30:26this could
30:27possibly be a tail
30:28coming out of it
30:30yeah yeah
30:30that would have been
30:32probably from the bag
30:34or whatever it was being attached to
30:36yeah yeah
30:37your dad's phone
30:38other bag shoes
30:38one on 32
30:40one on lot 5
30:42down by the ocean
30:44and yet here we are
30:45in the middle of nowhere
30:47you find a bag seal
30:49first developed in Europe
30:52in the 13th century
30:54bag seals
30:55were fasteners
30:56used to secure
30:57large quantities of goods
30:58inside cloth packaging
31:00the Oak Island team
31:02previously found
31:03one of these items
31:04on lot 5
31:05that was British
31:06and could date back
31:07to the 16th century
31:09however
31:11they uncovered another one
31:12near the shore
31:13on lot 32
31:14that was a scientific match
31:16to the 14th century
31:18lead cross
31:19which may be connected
31:20to the Knights Templar
31:21is it possible
31:23that Rick and Katya
31:25have just found
31:26a similar artifact
31:27to the best of my knowledge
31:29I don't think
31:32there was a homestead here
31:34I just
31:34for the life of me
31:35I can't understand
31:36why it's here
31:37it just doesn't make sense
31:39to me
31:39I cannot explain
31:41why this bag seal
31:42has been found
31:43almost in the middle
31:45of the lot
31:45not in proximity
31:48to the open ocean
31:50everything prior
31:52to the causeway construction
31:53in 1965
31:54things would have had
31:56to have come by the sea
31:57by way of the sea
31:58so why it was lost
32:00in the middle of the lot
32:01I cannot explain it
32:02look it's a great find
32:04I'm more curious
32:05about this one
32:06than I am about
32:07bag seals
32:08on there and there
32:08because if they had
32:10something to do
32:11with a work area
32:12then whatever was inside
32:14would have been
32:14needed here
32:15I'm really hoping
32:17that Emma and Laird
32:19can find a maker's mark
32:21or moniker on it
32:22and we could really
32:24trace this back
32:24to where it came from
32:25yeah
32:26let's get it analyzed
32:27see if there is a
32:29maker's mark
32:30or something
32:31I agree
32:31yeah
32:32good find
32:32yeah
32:33well congratulations
32:34thank you
32:34you found something
32:35I always wanted to find
32:36well done
32:36it's cool
32:37right
32:38let's keep looking
32:39yeah
32:40let's do it
32:41the following morning
32:46let's find something
32:48yeah
32:48oh hey guys
32:49how you doing
32:50what is it
32:50Craig
32:51about ready
32:52yeah
32:52just about
32:53while they wait
32:55for analysis
32:55on the new find
32:57from lot 8
32:57Rick
32:58Craig
32:59and other members
33:00of the team
33:00meet with
33:01underwater imaging
33:02expert
33:03Ken DeBoer
33:03in the Money Pit
33:04area
33:05to investigate
33:06the possible
33:0710 foot void
33:08nearly 150 feet deep
33:10in borehole
33:11BN 13.5
33:13we're going to
33:15try the camera first
33:15so we can see
33:16if we can get an image
33:16down there
33:17sure
33:17pull the sonar down
33:18can you explain it
33:19Terry
33:20can I explain it
33:21geologically
33:21not really
33:22no I mean
33:22I'm looking for
33:24beams and posts here
33:25that's what I'm going
33:26to look for
33:26in that pictures
33:27that's what I'm going
33:28to look for
33:28in the sonar imaging
33:29as well
33:30and perhaps a little
33:31chest over in the corner
33:32crush your finger
33:35Ken it's up to you
33:36no pressure
33:37no pressure
33:37no pressure
33:38no pressure
33:39all right
33:40it's very interesting
33:41I mean we're in the
33:42area of high metal values
33:44in my opinion
33:45this would be an offset
33:46chamber
33:46potentially
33:47yes
33:47so it's quite interesting
33:49so I'm ready to go
33:50let's have a look
33:51let's get the camera down
33:52there then
33:52okay let's get at it
33:54before running
33:55a sonar device
33:57down the borehole
33:58the team
33:59will insert Ken's
34:00high definition camera
34:01capable of operating
34:03in low-light conditions
34:04with a lens
34:06that he can rotate
34:06360 degrees
34:09we'll take it to
34:10150 feet
34:11so we're into the hole
34:12okay
34:12one down
34:16touchdown water
34:25water
34:26we'd love nothing better
34:28than to see a man-made
34:29cave cavern vault
34:31anything man-made
34:33really at that depth
34:34in that location
34:36I don't know
34:37what to expect
34:38but I'm very eager
34:39to find out
34:40what's down there
34:41how deeper we Charles
34:42you're 32 feet
34:44right now
34:4480 feet
34:5090 feet
34:55it's close to the top
34:57of the chamber
34:58100
34:59there you go
35:01okay there's a silk
35:05cloud coming up
35:06from around a
35:07looks like a boulder
35:08or something
35:09oh that could be a bean
35:11wow
35:11oh wow
35:12there's something there
35:20isn't there
35:21Steve come up
35:23like about
35:23an inch or two
35:24okay
35:24oh
35:30oh that's good
35:31you can make it
35:35almost like a wall
35:36or something like that
35:37there
35:37when you move
35:38away from it
35:39we kind of go into
35:44more of an opening
35:44here
35:44really
35:45now that's interesting
35:50there's definitely
35:54some sort of
35:55opening there
35:55yeah
35:56for sure
35:57yep
35:58right there
36:01right there
36:01in the abyss
36:02in the money pit area
36:04the oak island team
36:06investigates
36:07a strange cavity
36:08some 150 feet
36:10underground
36:11Steve you want to
36:13just take us up
36:14slowly
36:15kind of inch by inch
36:16yes sir will
36:16you tell me
36:19when to stop
36:20oh
36:23oh
36:24did you see that
36:25turn that way
36:27hold it there
36:31for a second
36:31okay I'm going to
36:32steady it
36:33that looks like
36:37something
36:37I mean
36:41you see the potential
36:43of having boulders
36:44on top of one
36:45another
36:45but I mean
36:46just off to the
36:47left or right
36:47could be the
36:48original man-made
36:48structure
36:49holding those
36:50boulders out
36:50yeah
36:51if there was
36:54a collapse
36:54off that chamber
36:55down there
36:56or a tunnel
36:57I mean
36:57we're going to
36:57see
36:58bare earth
36:59but it looks
37:01like it has
37:02depth
37:02that's interesting
37:03yeah
37:03but we do
37:05but we do see
37:05but we do see
37:05some potential
37:06boulder
37:07on boulder
37:07but again
37:08we're towards
37:09kind of the
37:10rock-facing wall
37:11if you will
37:12side of the
37:13borehole
37:13could Terry
37:15be correct
37:16that the team
37:17is looking
37:18into a man-made
37:19structure
37:19if so
37:21could it be
37:22connected
37:22to the
37:22precious metals
37:23that have
37:24been detected
37:24in this area
37:25if we rotate
37:27around this way
37:28you see we
37:31start opening up
37:32here
37:32back into that
37:33cavity area
37:34right here
37:34that's just
37:36very surprising
37:37is that what
37:41you're seeing
37:41Ken
37:42yes
37:42I'd put the
37:46sonar down
37:46and try to
37:47define the
37:47cavity
37:48that's a
37:48great idea
37:49yep
37:49we can
37:51actually see
37:52some things
37:53but it's
37:54difficult to
37:56understand scale
37:57it's difficult
37:58to get a real
37:59interpretation
38:00of what you're
38:02looking at
38:02so the next
38:04step here
38:04is to
38:04introduce the
38:05sonar
38:05and see
38:06how open
38:07and how big
38:09how wide
38:09how long
38:10this area
38:11is
38:11so we
38:13have here
38:14is a
38:14scanning
38:14360 degree
38:16sonar
38:17the cable
38:18is marked
38:18so we'll
38:19know
38:19where that
38:20150 foot
38:21is
38:21okie doke
38:22keep your
38:23fingers crossed
38:23the blue
38:28robotics
38:28ping 360
38:29sonar device
38:30emits a
38:31sound wave
38:32that reflects
38:33off of
38:33objects
38:34and barriers
38:35we're in
38:38water
38:38we're in
38:39the water
38:39this will
38:40produce
38:40full scale
38:41images
38:42of the
38:42underground
38:43void
38:43or possible
38:44cavern
38:45show me
38:46the money
38:47yeah
38:47so we're
38:50in the cavity
38:51as of right
38:52now
38:52oh there's
38:53the opening
38:53yeah you're
38:54in you're
38:54in okay
38:54okay right
38:55there
38:55here we go
38:56this darker
38:58red line
38:59is the opening
38:59you can see
39:00how rough
39:00it is
39:01and the yellow
39:02is lower
39:02density returns
39:04and back
39:04scatter
39:04caused by
39:05particles in
39:06the water
39:06right
39:07go down
39:09just a little
39:09more
39:10yep
39:10yeah that
39:13popped out
39:14farther
39:14is that an
39:15opening now
39:15it's like
39:18around the
39:19hard return
39:19we've got
39:20an opening
39:20oh two
39:22directions too
39:23oh yeah
39:24looks like it's
39:25open
39:25wow
39:26to me this
39:27looks very
39:28linear
39:28like with an
39:29opening here
39:30interesting
39:31so it's
39:35two feet
39:35from side
39:36to side
39:37right now
39:37if this is
39:38not natural
39:39it could have
39:40been a larger
39:40cavity that has
39:41collapsed around
39:42it so
39:42true
39:43I mean
39:43just out
39:44to the left
39:45or right
39:45we mightn't
39:45encounter
39:46what we're
39:46hoping for
39:47yeah
39:47this hole
39:50shouldn't be
39:50open
39:51there's no
39:52reason for
39:53that
39:53geologically
39:54there's no
39:55reason for
39:55that
39:55we found
39:56gold in
39:57the water
39:57in the area
39:58right
39:59it's open
40:01down there
40:02there's no
40:03reason for
40:03it to be
40:03open
40:04unless man
40:05was down
40:06there doing
40:06something
40:07we have
40:09precious metals
40:10and high
