Woodford Folk Festival celebrates its thirty-eighth year

More than one hundred thousand people have descended on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, for the thirty-eighth annual Woodford Folk Festival. It's the first time the event's been held without its beloved founder, but his legacy lives on through the music, art and people.

00:15and the cost of living on the rise, Woodford is still sought after.

00:20For me it's a dream come true to be here.

00:22The sunny conditions attracting huge crowds.

00:25We're about 10% up on our numbers which is absolutely fantastic news.

00:29The annual event bringing local and international performers to Queensland.

00:34People coming in from Runderville and sharing their culture and their songs, stories, it's really good.

00:42More than 450 acts are scheduled across the six days.

00:46This festival is giving Australian artists a platform in what has been a challenging year.

00:51I've never needed Woodford more than I needed in this year.

00:54But one familiar face not here is the late founder Bill Horitz.

00:59He died just weeks before the celebration.

01:02Bill was a pathological optimist.

01:04He couldn't see roadblocks.

01:06He just had incredible big ideas and dreams.

01:09He doesn't think in years or months or decades.

01:12He thinks in centuries.

01:14The next generation keeping his legacy alive and following in their favourite artists' footsteps.
