Malaysia is against any attempt to use the self-declared "Republic of Somaliland" or any other territories to forcibly transfer already-displaced Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said Malaysia fully aligns with the position taken by many countries, as well as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in rejecting Israel’s decision to recognise the breakaway state as an independent nation.

00:00On Gaza, I take note of the recent discussions held in Florida, aimed at addressing the next phase of the peace process.
00:12Let us be clear, there must be no return to large-scale violence. Any resumption would exact an intolerable cost to civilians and further erode already fragile prospects for peace.
00:33Israel must be held accountable for its actions and obligations under international law.
00:44Finally, Malaysia aligns fully with the position taken by a broad group of states and by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation,
00:58in rejecting Israel's recognition of the so-called Somaliland region.
01:04We express our categorical opposition to any attempt to use Somaliland or any other territory as a destination for the forcible transfer or displacement of the Palestinian people from Gaza.
01:23Such notions are totally and wholly unacceptable, violent international law and humanitarian principles and would further perpetuate injustice rather than contribute to peace.
01:40We reject all actions that undermine the international legal order.
