Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean have been awarded a damehood and a knighthood in the New Year Honours.Dame Jayne, 68, and Sir Christopher, 67, are recognised for services to ice skating and to voluntary service, almost 42 years after dancing to Olympic gold in Sarajevo in 1984.
00:00I'd just come back from a holiday and went to the postbox and then I saw this letter.
00:05Saturday morning.
00:06So Saturday morning.
00:08Which was early for you.
00:09Yeah, and it said personal, confidential, and I was like, hmm.
00:16So it kind of quickly went back into the house and opened it.
00:20And I was like, ah.
00:22I couldn't believe it.
00:23I really couldn't believe it.
00:24And my husband wasn't at home, so I called him and then I was calling Chris.
00:31And I got the call shortly afterwards and I was just getting up, still in the PJs.
00:37So Jane said, go to the letterbox.
00:39So I went to the letterbox and opened it up and had a look and the letterbox was bare.
00:46There's nothing there.
00:48Nothing there.
00:49Nothing there.
00:51I was like, are you sure?
00:52This was a Saturday, wasn't it?
00:53Yeah, yeah.
00:54And so we were sort of checking the post all day for the late post, but still nothing.
01:01And then on Sunday we were going away to do something for a week.
01:05Yeah, we were working together.
01:06Out of the country.
01:07And so I wouldn't be at home.
01:10But fortunately I had some painters doing some painting and I asked them, please check the letterbox each day in case there's a letter of mine to arrive that I might need to correspond to.
01:20Anyway, it never arrived.
01:21So it was kind of, I was so elated, but then I was thinking, there's something wrong here.
01:29This, you know, everything we've achieved, we've achieved together.
01:32Well, it was a strange feeling, wasn't it?
01:33Yeah.
01:33Because you wanted to be excited, but at the same time you were a little bit, he didn't get one.
01:39Yes.
01:39And anyway, finally it all worked out and turned up.
01:44So about three days later I climbed out as well.
