Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump have praised progress made during peace talks at Trump's Mar-a-Lago home in Florida. Key issues, including security guarantees and territorial concessions, remain.
Transcript
00:00The Trump-Zelensky meeting here at Mar-a-Lago hasn't brought any breakthrough.
00:04But how close are we to an actual peace in Ukraine after it?
00:08Not 100%, but 90% or 95%.
00:11What number are we at right now?
00:14Well, I think we're, look, you know, you can say 95%, but I don't like to say percentages.
00:19I just think we're doing very well.
00:20We're very, we could be very close.
00:23There are one or two very thorny issues, very tough issues.
00:26But I think we're doing very well.
00:27We've made a lot of progress today, but really we've made it over the last month.
00:31The thorniest issue here is...
00:33The land you're talking about.
00:35Some of that land has been taken.
00:37Some of that land is maybe up for grabs,
00:40but it may be taken over the next period of a number of months.
00:45This is the Donbass President Trump is talking about.
00:47Vladimir Putin is demanding that Ukraine pulls all of its troops out of its own region.
00:52President Zelensky says only the Ukrainian people can decide that through a national referendum.
00:58Of course, our society has to choose and has to vote because it's their land.
01:03The land not of one person.
01:06It's the land of our nation.
01:08President Trump then offered unusually generous praise for President Zelensky.
01:12Let me tell you, they have been very brave.
01:14They fought very hard and continue to fight very hard.
01:18And suddenly he switched to this.
01:21Russia wants to see Ukraine succeed.
01:23Once, it sounds a little strange, but I was explaining to the president.
01:28But the recent Russian attacks on civilians in Ukraine suggest otherwise.
01:32Now President Trump is expected to host President Zelensky again
01:35with European leaders at the White House between January 12th and 18th, according to our sources.
01:40He gives it a few weeks to finalize the peace agreement.
01:43They keep fighting and they keep dying.
01:47No good.
