00:11started in the Hall of Fame parade in Canton Ohio when I was riding with Lynn

00:27didn't believe it it's the most daring football movie ever made so I decided
00:33to go to Miami and recreate the movie and there was only one person to do it
00:37with the master showman himself Chad Johnson and now the ESPN original series

00:57you know we were players you had to win a Super Bowl to get a parade but here in

01:14it's a great opportunity to walk down memory lane see old teammates Hall of
01:19Famers you caught me a parade in Super Bowl 10 Lynn caught by Swan
01:24and Swan out there caught it here is Bradshaw and Swan is open got it
01:31Steeler touchdown I tell you that was some Super Bowl you came up huge Lynn
01:36Lynn had a great game but he didn't cast the biggest shadow over Super Bowl 10
01:40two's got a point seriously I don't understand let me give you a hint about 192 feet long 50
01:53feet wide a GZ 20 blimp talking about the Goodyear blimp
01:59Dallas cheerleaders as well as of course the Goodyear blimp we get some great pictures from up there
02:11that Goodyear blimp just barely would fit inside this orange bowl in fact it would almost reach from one end zone to the other
02:17once upon a time the Goodyear blimp was the bigger part of the Super Bowl
02:22the halftime show and the national anthem really
02:25it never felt like it was a big game unless the blimp was there the blimp had
02:30to be there I still don't get it what was so significant about Super Bowl 10 with
02:34the blimp they were using the Super Bowl as a backdrop for a terrorist attack not not
02:40a real one Hollywood was doing the movie
02:43terrorists hijacked the Goodyear blimp and it comes into the orange bowl it comes

03:46so I met up with an old friend in Miami six-time Pro Bowl receiver Chad Johnson to figure out how the
03:57craziest football movie ever made got made so you're telling me they filmed the Hollywood movie at
04:03the Super Bowl while the game was going on sounds nuts right it was a disaster movie about a bomb
04:09except the movie was a bomb and it's a shame because it was the most epic Super Bowl movie ever made how
04:14they do it well they got this great director John Frankenheimer they got Robert Shaw who is fresh out
04:19of Jaws Bruce Dern who just filmed with Hitchcock John Williams scored the music and they had this
04:26idea to use the Super Bowl as a sort of a prop if you will a backdrop for this movie but we are
04:33attempting to do in Black Sunday has never been done before it's a first it's the first time the NFL and the
04:38Super Bowl has ever been shot for a major motion picture it's the first time the Goodyear blimp has been
04:42used as one of the stars of the motion picture if you're ever going to tell a blimp size story Chad is
04:54the receiver to do it with this story is all about John Frankenheimer's indecent proposal it started with
05:13his desire for Black Sunday to seem real they all took direction from John Frankenheimer on how to
05:19save screaming helpless fans trying to run for safety from an exploding blimp that's why he hired
05:25Steve Sable and NFL films to shoot the football on Black Sunday we photographed a great deal of the foot of
05:33the uh of the Super Bowl we wanted to get the best people we possibly could and so NFL films Steve
05:40himself actually operated a camera on that picture why the roles and what's with the creepy mannequin in
05:47the bag every day Frankenheimer carpooled the set with his villain Bruce Dern in a Rolls Royce like this
05:54he needed three people to drive in the carpool lane so Frankenheimer had his prop master make him a
06:00dummy so he wouldn't have to sit and track him this is it Chad Pompano Beach Florida home of the Goodyear blimp
06:12the blimp took off right here on its flight to the Orange Bowl for Super Bowl 10.

06:19back in 1976 when Black Sunday was filmed the movie was not the fantasy it appears today many people
06:34still remember the time when blimps and zeppelins were the premier form of air travel
06:39take the airship now take home twice as fast as ocean liners able to carry more passengers and airplanes
06:49airships were the future eight engines will drive the propellers when the ship's nose points toward
06:55America that needle at the top of the empire state building it looks like a scene from 1992
07:04it was built to more a blimp
07:13if all that's true why are we flying in blimp today it's got something to do with this right here
07:19helium the germans didn't inflate their zeppelins with helium they used hydrogen hydrogen like a bomb yeah
07:34it's breaking it's breaking terrible oh my get out of the way please it's burning bursting in the flames and
07:43and it's falling on the morning fast
07:47this is terrible this is the one of the worst catastrophes in the world
07:52it's filled with the smoke and the flames now
07:56all the humanity
07:57the hindenburg disaster that burst the blimp bubble airplanes not airships became the way to travel
08:10only one airship found a way to survive through the landings at normandy and the jet age

10:48There weren't a lot of movies about blimps, I guess.
10:51So as someone in the blimp world,
10:53people referenced that movie
10:54probably more than any other to us.

11:11made Bruce Dern learn how to fly a blimp.
