40:24feel free to ignore my sob story
40:25and go straight to the bar.
40:28But for those of you who don't know it,
40:30here's the short version.
40:33My parents were both junior hockey coaches.
40:37And they were hit by a drunk driver
40:40when I was 12 years old.
40:42Mercifully for them,
40:43they died instantly.
40:46Mercifully for me,
40:48the St. Thomas Scholarships existed.
40:50I didn't have anybody else to help me.
40:56I had a lot of memories,
40:58a love of hockey,
40:59and a huge hole in my heart.
41:03St. Thomas filled it with hope.
41:06The hope of a new family.
41:07Things weren't always easy.
41:11You know,
41:11they never are for anybody.
41:13But
41:13in hockey,
41:15I found what I was missing.
41:18First at my high school,
41:20then later at college,
41:21and now here
41:21with the Admirals.
41:23And I never looked back
41:25because I never had to.
41:27The family I craved,
41:31the family that I needed,
41:33that I still need today,
41:36hockey gave it to me.
41:39And St. Thomas gave me hockey.
41:41So from the bottom of my heart,
41:45I want to thank you all
41:46for being here tonight
41:47and for supporting this cause
41:49because it's not just a scholarship.
41:51It's
41:51everything that comes with it.
41:54It's a whole world,
41:55a whole life.
