Champion – Champion 1978 (UK, Blues Rock, Classic Rock, AOR)

When David Byron left Uriah Heep in 1976, he joined forces with guitarist Clem Clempson (ex-Humble Pie and Colosseum) and keyboardist Damon Butcher to form a new band. Eventually, along with bassist Willie Bath and drummer Geoff Britton (ex-Wings), they formed Rough Diamond. They released their only album in 1977, but Byron left the band shortly thereafter to pursue a solo career. The remaining band members immediately recruited new vocalist Garry Bell and eventually new drummer Jeff Rich, changing the band's name to Champion. They recorded and released a self-titled album in 1978, but disbanded in March 1979.
