In the year 2100, humanity had ventured into space, but suddenly faced an attack from the mechanized humanoids known as Armonoids from outer space. In response, the Future Science Development Center, led by Dr. Tachibana, formed the “Zero Testers” to protect humanity from this unknown enemy. “The Zero Testers are three young people brimming with courage, hope, and friendship, challenging the limits of zero life support to forge a new tomorrow for Earth.” (Narration from the program's opening animation).

The Armonoids invaded Earth, first under Commander Mebius, then under Commander Bargis. As the invasion intensified, the Development Center converted its artificial island command base into the Earth Fortress Super 5. Following Bargis' death, when the Garos Seven invaded Earth, the Center called upon all Earth citizens to report any information regarding Garos to the Center using the call sign “000”. This marks the transition of the Earth vs. Armonoid war into a new phase.

00:00Hello, and thank you for tuning in today. Today's topic is Zero Testers.
00:21The story is set in the 21st century. The Ahamonoids suddenly arrive from the planet Daijuu in our solar system and invade Earth. Three young people are chosen to face this enemy in the extreme situation where human life support is at zero. This is the story of Zero Tester.
00:45Now let's take a look at this work.
00:48Zero Tester was produced by Soeisha and aired for a total of 66 episodes from 1973 to 1974.
01:02The story begins at the Space Development Center, where Dr. Tachibana is reporting on several spacecraft accidents of unknown cause.
01:13Later, while using computers to scientifically investigate the causes of these accidents, they were also simultaneously working on Plan Zero, a plan to protect the Earth from unknown enemies.
01:25Then, 10 young people arrive at the Space Development Center for the final selection for Project Zero.
01:35Fubuki and Arashi cause problems soon after their arrival, but they endure a number of rigorous training exercises. While exploring the base to investigate the purpose of the training, they discover several huge spaceships.
01:49However, they are discovered by their instructor, Kenmochi, who points out that they have entered a restricted area without permission and orders them to leave the base.
02:01As a result, Fubuki and Arashi have no choice but to board a small rocket and attempt to return to Earth, but along the way, the power and engine malfunction, hindering their journey to Earth.
02:15In fact, this was the final test of the advance, and the team would pass if they could calmly and quickly repair any malfunctions in the rocket's power or engine, and return safely to Earth.
02:29After a difficult struggle, the two manage to control the rocket, allowing it to enter the atmosphere and finally arrive safely on Earth.
02:38After arriving, Dr. Tachibana and Captain Kenmochi welcome Fubuki and Arashi, who have passed the final test, to Earth, but then the Hermanoid aliens appear.
02:52The Hermanoid aliens then reveal that they have become aware of the secret Zero Project and that they will invade Earth, and launch a swift attack using a giant mecha, putting Fubuki and the others in a desperate situation.
03:07At that moment, Tester 1, a space fighter piloted by Lisa, appears from the sky and destroys the giant mecha with a beam attack.
03:17Afterwards, Captain Kenmochi officially approves him as a member of the Zero Testers, but this battle marks the beginning of a fierce battle with the mysterious aliens, the Armanoids, as their objectives gradually become clear.
03:37Now, let me introduce the main characters.
03:43Hubukshin is a 15-year-old young man with a brilliant mind and exceptional athletic ability, who becomes the pilot of Tester No. 1 and Mark 1.
03:57Her father had gone missing in space, and she volunteered to be a Zero Tester to search for him.
04:03Although he often argues with Arashi, they also have a fierce battle with the Armanoid aliens, and it seems that a friendship has blossomed between them as comrades in arms.
04:12Arashi is a 20-year-old young man who tends to act before thinking and is a reckless type, and he becomes the pilot of Tester No. 1 and Mark 2.
04:27Although he is the oldest, he was initially scolded by Captain Kenmochi and Lisa for his problematic behavior, but as the fighting intensified, he began to pay close attention to the team's cooperation.
04:39Originally from a space colony on Jupiter, he lost his mother in an accident as a boy, but volunteered to join the Zero Testers to avenge the death of his comrades.
04:53Lisa is a 15-year-old female pilot who pilots Tester No. 1 and Mark 3, and is a favorite of the team. She acts calmly and coolly in all situations.
05:06In the film, while Fubuki and Arashi are the ones undergoing preliminary testing as Zero Testers, Lisa has already been selected, which suggests that she was deeply involved in the Zero Plan.
05:20After launching the Zero Project with Dr. Tachibana, Kenmochi Tsutomu is the person in charge of on-site command in the battle against the Ahmanoids, and is also the captain of the Zero Testers and the Tester Squad.
05:36He had strong leadership skills that allowed him to unite the Zero Tester members, who all had strong personalities, and he was feared by the members as a strict instructor.
05:45Yang is a dedicated engineer in charge of maintenance and development of the mecha and combat items used by Zero Tester and the Tester Squad.
05:59Before the human Zero Testers were formed, three androids were created as tests to eliminate the burden of training and the risk of human death in combat.
06:11Dr. Tachibana was a central figure in Plan Zero, which predicted an invasion from space, and later served as Earth's commander-in-chief in the battle against the Ahamonoids.
06:28Therefore, even though he was busy, he was extraordinarily concerned about Hiroshi, his only son living on Earth.
06:37The mecha that Zero Tester and the Tester Squad will appear in are as follows:
06:46Tester 1 is a space fighter featuring Fubuki, Arashi, and Lisa, and can separate into Mark 1, Mark 2, and Mark 3.
06:56When combined, Mark 2 acts as a joint, sandwiching the combined units of Mark 1 and Mark 3 to form a single unit.
07:07Also, when combining, they would call out "zero charge" or "charge in," and when separating, they would call out "charge out."
07:18Normally, even when the three units are separated, they maintain sufficient combat capability, and even when they are separated, they have the power output to leave the atmosphere.
07:29On the other hand, the Mark 1 and Mark 2 could be combined to operate, but the drawback was that their combat capabilities were significantly reduced.
07:40Tester Unit 1 is equipped with weapons such as the Sigma Zero Beam, Cutter Beam, and Zero Missile, all of which boast high offensive power.
07:49In addition, the gravity jump device will apply intense load acceleration, making it possible to split Tester Unit 1 into two during Jumping Zero Flight.
08:01This put a great strain on Fubuki and the others, as they had to withstand momentary maximum gravity of over 70 hours.
08:09Tester Unit 2 functions as both an aerial carrier that houses Tester Units 1 and 3, and a mobile command base, and is the machine in which Captain Kenmochi mainly appears and takes command.
08:24Its distinctive appearance resembles that of a sunfish, and Tester Unit 1 is launched from the model at the front of the upper part. From episode 53 onwards, the entire ship can be deployed and transformed into a dressmaking ship with powerful firepower in its four blocks.
08:42Tester No. 3 is a submarine tender with flight and space navigation capabilities, and the vessel section is equipped with a small submersible called a Remora, which allows for quick diving activities.
08:58Additionally, Tester Unit 1 and the underground tank shield can be stored depending on the operation.
09:05Tester No. 4 can be used as a container transport vehicle to carry various weapons and equipment, but the container section can also be removed for combat.
09:19Additionally, in the film, it was docked with other spacecraft and Tester No. 2 as an auxiliary hydraulic engine.
09:28The Zero Robot is a work robot with four extendable legs, its arms are normally retracted, and its abdomen is equipped with a bomb disposal compartment.
09:42When in operation, it can be used as a combat arm for heavy machinery work or a manipulator for light work, and it also has a payload large enough to store the first tester.
09:54The Space Development Center has an appearance of many connected spheres on its surface, and serves as the base of operations for Zero Tester and the Tester Squadron in space.
10:07Also on Earth, the artificial base of operations was a gigantic fortress that could be moved on the sea, and from episode 39 onwards, Super 5, a newly constructed combination of a gigantic base, deep sea base, launch base and intelligence base, was also active, with the artificial base at its centre.
10:33The Z-1 is a high-performance fighter jet that surpasses the Tester No. 1, and can transform between the first high speed, second high speed, and third high speed.
10:47It was equipped with a Sigma Zero Beam and a Cutter Beam as armaments, but unfortunately it could not withstand the overload of the third high speed, bursting into flames and disappearing.
10:57Crusher 7 is a combat robot created by Dr. Gao and piloted by his seven grandchildren.
11:07In the film, during a battle with the Ahmanoid robot, Supergaros, he crashes into it, explodes, and disappears.
11:15Courage is a boy-type robot created by Dr. Dalton with a power of 900,000 horsepower and a body made of super-hard alloy.
11:28Although it is a high-performance robot, it has emotional circuits that make it afraid of combat, so it struggles in battle and ultimately dies despite defeating the enemy.
11:38And the enemies of the Zero Testers are the mechanized human race, the Armanoids.
11:49The Armanoid Boss is the king who commands the Armanoids. Initially, he sends out multiple commanders to invade Earth, but towards the end he moves the Armanoid planet towards Earth for the purpose of a final attack.
12:05Mebius was the first Earth attack commander, but was unable to stop Plan Zero. After that, he confronted the Zero Tester, but after failing in many of his operations, he was sentenced to death in episode 14, and was killed in the final operation when he was caught up in the explosion of a communications satellite.
12:27Varghese was the second Earth attack commander, and enlarged himself to a gigantic size and engaged in a life-or-death battle with Zero Tester, but was killed by a cutter beam.
12:41After Bargis' death, and the invasion of Earth by the Garos Seven, they began calling on Earth's citizens to report any information about Garos to the Center using the call sign Zero Zero Zero.
12:58The Garos Seven is a fighting corps formed by the following ships:
13:08Animalgaroth has the ability to control animals in his humanoid detained form and attacks by firing countless needles from his mouth.
13:17Dinosaur Garos creates an army by modifying dinosaur-shaped robots, and uses its horns and dorsal fins like shuriken to attack.
13:32Musha Garos can separate into Ashlanger and Iron Buffalo, and uses weapons such as a tomahawk, cross shuriken, flames from its mouth, and finger missiles.
13:43Firegaros can control high-temperature flames and shoot flames from its arms and holes in its body, but when it fights against Zero Robot, it is grappled and then defeated by the Sigma Zero Beam.
13:59Espergaros, like the Thousand Trees Kannon, used weapons such as Esper Flash, Esper Attack, and Esper Beam to corner the artificial investment spirit base in a desperate situation.
14:14As offensive techniques, Gamagaros spits explosive mucus from its mouth and fires missiles and fireballs from its warts, and can also separate into blade-sized parts.
14:27Transforming Garros can transform into a five-headed dragon or a bipedal monster, and in episode 47, he uses minions disguised as children to disarm an artificial investment spirit base.
14:42Garos Steel Bullets are robots with the abilities of animals and insects that were sent by Ahmanoid Boss after the Garos Seven were defeated by Zero Tester.
14:57A typical robot is Magmagalos, which has a bird-shaped neck and scythes in both hands.
15:05The Garos Super Express is a caterpillar-shaped robot that disguises itself as a train and attempts to attack Shibuya Canyon Base.
15:12Scorpion-shaped robot Scorpiongyula causes an earthquake due to a gas explosion in an underground cavity, but is defeated by the cooperation of the Underground Tank Shield and Tester No. 2 and No. 4.
15:28Dragon Garos, a dragon-shaped robot, appeared in a deadly battle underwater with Zero Tester.
15:35As an aside, this work was planned by Tohokushinsha, which held the broadcasting rights for Thunderbirds, with the concept of a Japanese Thunderbird.
15:49Initially, the film was conceived as a rescue mission, similar to Thunderbirds.
15:57However, due to repeated changes in the scenario concept, including combat,
16:03Gradually, the content became more about combat than rescue.
16:09Furthermore, from episode 40 onwards, in order to make the content easier to understand for younger viewers,
16:16Along with the change in the staging, the title was also changed to Zero Tester, Protect the Earth.
16:23Please note that John Dedowa, listed as the mechanical designer, is a fictional character.
16:29It has been revealed that its true identity is the SF planning company Crystal Art Studio, the predecessor of Studio Nue.
16:41Now, finally, it's the final episode.
16:44As a final attack strategy, as the Ahamonoid planet approaches Earth,
16:51The rocks and other materials covering the surface of the star will peel off, finally revealing the star's true nature.
16:58Sensing this approach, Super 5 considers it the greatest crisis on Earth,
17:06Dr. Tachibana sends out an explanation to the whole world about what would happen if the planet Ahmanoid collided with Earth.
17:12In addition, the message said that the Ahamonoids, who were too devoted to mechanical civilization,
17:21He released a photo of himself surviving in a capsule with his brain in it, and
17:28The true purpose of the Ahamonoids is to steal the bodies of Earthlings and transplant their brains into them.
17:35Dr. Tachibana explains that this means restoring the body to its original form.
17:39Furthermore, in response to the Ahamonoids' invasion of Earth,
17:45Super 5 and Zero Tester also declared that they would fight resolutely.
17:52Meanwhile, the planet Ahmanoid reached Mars, the first line of defense,
17:59The attack begins, but since they are unmanned attack satellites, they are quickly destroyed.
18:05Meanwhile, at Super 5, the members who ignored orders
18:11They try to fire a giant Armanoid Star missile, but
18:15It turns out that the missile's nuclear warhead has already been removed.
18:21In fact, all the nuclear warheads in the world are stored on the moon.
18:26You are informed that the Zero Tester is working on detonating the nuclear warheads all at once.
18:32Meanwhile, the zero testers are working on the moon.
18:38He witnesses a missile attack on Earth and expresses his anger.
18:44Meanwhile, Earth continues to fire interceptor missiles.
18:48As the enemy's multiple warhead missiles steadily destroy cities on Earth,
18:53The people at the Hinarion shelter were trembling and terrified.
18:58Arashi, unable to bear this horrific sight,
19:03He abandons his work and pilots Tester Unit 1, attempting to head towards Earth, but
19:09Lisa's desperate persuasion dissuades him.
19:13After that, Fubuki and the others completed their work.
19:17Tester No. 1 headed to 30,000 meters above the moon,
19:20At the appointed time thereafter,
19:23The Sigma Zero Beam is used to detonate and activate the nuclear warhead on the moon.
19:29However, the strong recoil from the explosion blew Tester No. 1 away,
19:35The moon begins to move and collides with the Armanoid planet.
19:41After the collision, the Armanoid star will change its collision trajectory with the Earth,
19:46A series of internal explosions eventually cause Planet Armanoid to explode.
19:51Meanwhile, the safety of Tester Unit 1, which had been blown away by the explosion and was floating in space, was confirmed.
20:00Super 5 was popping up to ventilate.
20:02Later, on the way back to Earth, Fubuki and his friends find the remains of the Armanoid planet floating in space.
20:12You realize that the battle with the Armanoids is over.
20:15The scene changes to Dr. Tachibana and Captain Kenmochi welcoming Fubuki and the others back from the moon.
20:25Basking in the morning sunlight of the rising sun, they savor the victory of their long and difficult battle against the Armanoids.
20:32The program ends.
20:37Now let's see how zero testers work.
