00:00I know nothing about sewing, and I'm not the kind of well-adjusted person who might take up sewing as a hobby.
00:06So this may unravel faster than a hen without a backstitch, but let's find out.
00:11Are we all right, Patrick?
00:13I have a terrible feeling.
00:15About what?
00:16Like, we've forgotten something.
00:18I don't think so. We've taken care of everything.
00:21I turned off the tea's made.
00:22No, not that.
00:25We locked the sewing machine away?
00:27Yeah, yeah.
00:30Well, what else could we have forgotten?
00:33It's me!
00:37Welcome to the Sewing Bee Christmas special.
00:41Four celebrities have arrived at Sewing Bee's HQ in Leeds.
00:46One, two, three.
00:48Aiming for top marks in fashion.
00:51I think you'll find Craig will want that back rather soon.
00:53Well, he's not having it.
00:55They're undertaking three challenges.
00:57A Christmas present sack.
01:00Cheers!
01:00Fun fancy dress.
01:02Wah!
01:03I'm absolutely quackers.
01:05And outfits inspired by their favourite seasonal treat.
01:09So dessert's for the eyes.
01:10Who will get their groove on?
01:12All the jelly goes, all the jelly goes.
01:14Ooh!
01:15And who's slip-up...
01:17Disaster.
01:17Snaps.
01:18Will end up a fashion flop.
01:20Do you like it?
01:21I think you've definitely got the edgy number.
01:24Christmas has landed in our sewing room.
01:48Joining us for some festive fun are professional dancer and strictly come-dancing judge, Anton DeBeck.
01:55I love Christmas.
01:58I wish I was one of those people who would start buying presents in June, but I'm not.
02:04I start buying presents on the 23rd of December.
02:07It's not Christmas unless you're running around with your hair on fire.
02:10Going, ah!
02:11I haven't got any more presents.
02:12Oh, no.
02:13Best day of Christmas Day.
02:14Now you're doing Christmas Day.
02:15Comedian Lucy Beaumont.
02:17Christmas Day, there's usually some sort of argument, but nothing too major.
02:23It calms everybody down.
02:24We do that instead of playing board games.
02:28We used to do Guess Who, and now we just have an argument.
02:32Oh, my God!
02:34Actor and writer Susan Wakoma.
02:36Christmas gives a point to it being cold.
02:39I love big coats, I love, like, mulled wine, and then as soon as it's, like, the 1st of January, I'm like, where's the sun?
02:46And gladiator Tom Wilson, a.k.a. Hammer.
02:51I want to show people gladiators can sew.
02:54From jewel to the sewing machine, I can do it.
03:02Merry Christmas, one and all.
03:05Celebrity sewers, please come forward.
03:09So, I'm your host, Sophie.
03:15I'm pregnant, I'm practically the Virgin Mary, without the barn, the donkey, or the virginity, let's be honest.
03:21Yeah.
03:22Are you ready?
03:23I'm ready.
03:24So ready.
03:25It's that time of year.
03:27You're going to make some terrible life choices at the Christmas office party.
03:31You will, I think.
03:32I've got my eye on you.
03:33Yes, I will.
03:34I can tell, yeah, you're wild, I know.
03:36But until then, we're going to sew.
03:39Esme, what we're doing first?
03:41Right, here we go.
03:42Pass them round.
03:44Thank you very much.
03:45Oh, okay.
03:46We want you to make a Christmas present sack.
03:49It's got a band at the top, with a drawstring closure, and a lining.
03:56Lining?
03:57Yeah.
03:57Is it absolutely necessary?
03:58Yes.
03:59Okay, just checking.
04:00Cheating already?
04:02You'll find loads of coloured fabric in the haberdashery, and there's festive embellishments on the cutting table, with which to Christmas-ify your sacks.
04:12Because we know that Christmas is not all about presents.
04:16It's about the fabulous sacks that they come in.
04:18So, are you ready to pimp your sacks?
04:20I'm ready.
04:21Are you ready, Anton?
04:22Yes.
04:23Fabulous.
04:24Okay.
04:25Right, you've got two hours.
04:27Your time starts now.
04:29Now, here we go.
04:31As time is of the essence, the celebrities need to think fast as well as festive, when choosing both their fabric...
04:37It is a bit you, lad.
04:38It is a bit me.
04:40...and their decorations.
04:41That one.
04:44The leopard print.
04:45I'm very traditional, so I love this.
04:48This is Christmas.
04:48And if my children were to wake up with a Christmas sack like this, at the end of their bed, they'd be delighted.
04:55So, what have they got to do, then?
04:58We've asked them to make a Christmas present sack.
05:01Think how many presents will go in this bag.
05:05So, do you think the bigger the better than Esme?
05:07Yes.
05:08Fabulous.
05:08We could almost fit Esme in this sack.
05:10I was thinking that.
05:11That would be the best present, wouldn't it?
05:13So, a bottle of sherry and Esme pops out.
05:15Yeah.
05:15So, what are all the elements that they have to do?
05:18Well, you've got the outside of the bag, you've got a lining, and then you've got cords.
05:26They might not choose the easiest fabric.
05:28They might go for something sparkly and fun-looking, which would be tricky to sew.
05:31And then you've got decoration.
05:33It's important you express yourself.
05:36You express yourself through your sack.
05:43My job as a gladiator is being up there, knocking people down.
05:46It's pretty heavy-handed.
05:48So, pinning fabric is a challenge.
05:51I've never made a sack before, but I've made an oven glove.
05:56It's quite different, actually.
05:58Last time I went on the sewing machine was about 35 years ago.
06:02We used to make our own costumes.
06:04Basically, we love this.
06:06All righty.
06:07Come on!
06:09The Christmas present sack is made from four pattern pieces.
06:12First, the top band pieces are stitched to the top and bottom edges of the main panel.
06:19Then it's time to decorate.
06:22Next, the lining is attached to each top band piece, creating a big loop.
06:27A gap is left in one of the seams for turning out later.
06:32Then the sides are sewn, leaving a gap for the cord.
06:36The sack is then turned right side out, and the opening is stitched closed.
06:40Finally, two rows of stitching create a channel for the cord.
06:45The cord is threaded, extra decoration is added, and the sack is complete.
06:51Good morning.
06:52Morning.
06:53Cracking on.
06:54Have you got a plan for embellishing it?
06:56Yes.
06:56So, every Christmas, I spend it in Lancaster with friends of mine, and we drink martinis.
07:01So, that is what's going to be the embellishment on the front.
07:04Ooh.
07:05Yeah.
07:06She is certainly keen on a Christmas martini.
07:08Have you done any of this sort of stuff before?
07:11None at all.
07:11That's brave of you to come on.
07:13Well, doubly brave, because you've chosen a slippery sequined fabric, which is really hard to sew.
07:17It is really hard to sew.
07:18If you're right, that seems like madness.
07:21Madness.
07:21Well, I've made something for madness.
07:24Yeah.
07:26It sucks.
07:30Just name drop.
07:31What's Christmas if it's not a massive, clanging game drop?
07:35Clang!
07:37While Susan's gambling on sophisticated sequins...
07:40Hello.
07:41This looks good.
07:42I like leopard print.
07:44Lucy's gone for something saucy.
07:46Well, I'm going to tell a story, because my mum used to have a nightdress like that.
07:50It's meant to be, you know, when Mummy kisses Santa Claus?
07:53That song, like, a take on that.
07:55I show Mummy kisses...
07:59The inside of it is meant to be Father Christmas.
08:03It's a bit like your mum sleeping with Santa in the 90s.
08:09Good luck.
08:10Oh, thank you, Sophie.
08:11Fabulous.
08:13It's delivering up to sew.
08:16Right sides.
08:17Ah!
08:19Right sides together.
08:20Stitch, the top band.
08:21I'm absolutely terrified.
08:23My first step.
08:25Oh, this is exciting.
08:27The first job is to sew the top band to the main fabric.
08:30That's so cool.
08:32A gladiator on a sewing machine.
08:34This is just where it's meant to be.
08:35But the celebrities will have to hang tough.
08:38Ooh!
08:40As even delicate sewing has its own dangerous obstacles.
08:44Hens get in the way, don't they?
08:46They're moving with me.
08:48I feel like I'm on Coronation Street, you know, that factory.
08:52While this isn't a soap, there's certainly room for slip-ups.
08:56Careful of the sequins.
08:57Ooh, God, that's slipped out underneath.
09:00Especially with Susan's slippery fabric.
09:02The sequins are hard.
09:05Esme and Patrick went nine.
09:06Hello, Anton.
09:09How we doing?
09:09You look very studious.
09:11I have to tell you, I'm terribly excited.
09:13My children will love this.
09:15How many kids have you, Kyle?
09:16Two.
09:16I've got a boy and a girl.
09:17Eight now.
09:18Right.
09:18Which makes Christmas even more February.
09:20That is fun, isn't it?
09:21Do you dress up as Santa?
09:22Yeah, there's a photograph for me being Santa Claus.
09:24Right.
09:24Very thin, athletic Santa, aren't you?
09:26Well, I'd try to.
09:28Actually, I am also quite good at moving.
09:31I can do a twerk.
09:32Can you now?
09:33I'd like to learn some ballroom.
09:35Would you?
09:36Yeah.
09:37You go back with your left foot.
09:38So you go back, side, together, forward, side, together.
09:43I feel amazing.
09:44You look like a swan.
09:45You do feel amazing.
09:48Shall I quickly show you the twerk?
09:49Yeah.
09:50The best thing to do, Anton, imagine you're getting electrocuted.
09:53Let me give that a thought.
09:55Hang on.
09:55And it's like it's coming at you.
09:57Right.
09:58And his legs are shaking.
09:59And you're trying to get away, but you just can't.
10:02You're just searching.
10:03OK.
10:04And then all the jelly goes.
10:05All the jelly goes.
10:07That's it.
10:08Yeah.
10:09Yeah.
10:09Yeah.
10:10Ah.
10:12See you at the Christmas party.
10:13All right-o.
10:14Let's make some mistakes.
10:21Just like the wise men, you've got a long journey ahead and no sap.
10:26You're halfway there.
10:28Oh, my God.
10:29We're looking good.
10:30You've done this before, haven't you?
10:31No, I've not.
10:32Yeah, you have.
10:33Having attached their top bands, it's time for our novice sewing stars to stitch on their decorations.
10:40Sorry, did I say stitch?
10:41I mean iron.
10:43Martini glass.
10:44But even ironing might be a stretch for Anton.
10:49Don't go the wrong way around.
10:50How can I get the sticky bit on the wrong bit?
10:52Absolute eejit.
10:54I'm going for traditional Christmas design for my new nephew.
10:58My sister's had a lovely boy called Grayson.
11:00Well, I know Grayson Perry.
11:02Oh, do you?
11:03More name dropping.
11:04Yeah, name dropping there.
11:05I'm going to sew tinsel, so this is going to be the martini liquid.
11:11Oh, it's too fast.
11:13Watch your foot thing.
11:14That's a technical term, the foot thing.
11:16A pedal.
11:17I feel like I'm in a band when I do that.
11:19While Susan pushes herself in the name of glamour...
11:22Hello.
11:23Hello, hello.
11:24Lucy's saucy leopard print design is ready for a sneak preview.
11:29Do you like what I'm doing?
11:30Personally, I'm not sure that just a leopard print sack,
11:34that just, ma'am, screams Christmas.
11:38It's meant to be, you know that song, I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus?
11:41Oh, yeah.
11:42But it feels like it's gone a bit seedy.
11:47Wise men, how are you doing?
11:49Tired?
11:51Confused?
11:52Following a light in the sky that you hope is a weather spoon?
11:55You've got 30 minutes left.
11:59Currently sewing the lining.
12:01It's inside out.
12:02With the lining attached to the sack inside out,
12:05there's one input and step for the sewers to remember.
12:09And you must leave a gap in the seam.
12:11The gap enables the sack to be turned the right way.
12:14Oh, I've made a bit of her boo-boo.
12:16This is closed.
12:17But Lucy has sewn us together.
12:20It's all going on here.
12:22I'm going to unpick it.
12:24I'm about to pull this through.
12:26Yes.
12:26It looks a bit like when you get stuck with a duvet.
12:29While the other celebrities turn their sacks the right way...
12:32Can she do it?
12:33Will she do it?
12:34She's doing it.
12:37Brilliant.
12:38Lucy's left looking for an opening.
12:41Surely there's the technology to not have to do this.
12:45The need to invent a machine for unpicking.
12:47Tom, this is quite a sight, I have to say.
12:51Seeing a gladiator intricately sewing a pattern.
12:55So is this a hammer here?
12:56This is a hammer.
12:57This is to remind myself who I am.
12:59How tall are you?
13:00Six foot six.
13:01How tall are you?
13:01Five foot three.
13:02Let me stand up.
13:03Hey, my bum just fits completely just above yours.
13:05Yeah, it's really comfortable.
13:07I know.
13:07It's really comfortable.
13:08Can you just follow me around like this?
13:09I'm going to stay here.
13:10It's fabulous.
13:11I've finished unpicking.
13:13I might just have a break.
13:16I haven't.
13:17I feel like we've been here years.
13:19Hurry up, wise men.
13:20The baby's crowning.
13:21We've got 15 minutes.
13:24I'm trying to pull the drawstring through,
13:27and it's getting constantly caught.
13:29The cord needs to be threaded through the narrow channels.
13:33Last time I pulled the cord through,
13:34my children's swim costumes.
13:37In actual fact, my wife's swimming costume.
13:40We're nearly there.
13:41I think I can do this.
13:43But Lucy's still battling with her bag.
13:46If I finish it, it's going to be a miracle.
13:49Right, we've got ten minutes.
13:51Oh, my gosh.
13:52Now I'm going to tart it up.
13:54How about bells?
13:58Esme, I'm just adding to me.
13:59Lovely big boat.
14:01You know.
14:01You know it.
14:02How much time have we got left?
14:05One minute left.
14:08Terrifying.
14:09Keep it up.
14:09Fosse, fosse.
14:10Ooh, ooh, ooh.
14:11Fosse, fosse.
14:12Come on, come on, come on.
14:13Jazz hands.
14:14Jazz hands.
14:15So, so, so.
14:16Piece of the resistance.
14:17But...
14:18Get some bells on.
14:20I hear bells.
14:21Perfect.
14:22Oh.
14:23It's just awful.
14:26Needles of sewers.
14:28It may be the most wonderful time of the year,
14:31but your time is up.
14:32I could actually do one of them martinis, Susie.
14:36I know, right?
14:37The candle was homemade.
14:38Wow.
14:39Deep arts and crafts.
14:40That's great.
14:40And you've got bells on it.
14:42I like bells.
14:43That's really cool, isn't it?
14:44I said it a bit messy, but it's an actual sack.
14:48You can't be sure that he's coming around
14:52With presents in his sack
14:55Four Christmas sacks
14:58Packed full of presents
15:00Made in just two hours
15:03Look at you, sparkly lot.
15:06You look like a fabulous festive bunch of burglars.
15:09So, what do you think?
15:10Brilliant.
15:10All of them, brilliant.
15:12Bags of festive goodness.
15:14Mmm.
15:15It's a bad joke.
15:16Yes, I get it.
15:16That was good, that.
15:17Yeah, thanks.
15:18Fast.
15:19Jingle bells, jingle bells,
15:22Jingle all the way
15:24Oh, what fun it is to ride
15:27In a one-horse open sleigh
15:29Jingle bells, jingle bells,
15:33Jingle all the way
15:35Oh, what fun it is to ride
15:38In a one-horse open sleigh
15:40Hey.
15:42Hey.
15:43I think the candle's great.
15:45You've got little berries.
15:46I love the colours.
15:48Oh, and it's a red lining.
15:50That works really well.
15:51If I'm being nitpicky,
15:53Slightly misaligned at the side.
15:54A little step.
15:56But, put your draw chords.
15:58Those work.
15:59You hold it and tug.
16:00Hold and tug.
16:00Hold and tug.
16:01That's the way with this sack.
16:03Right, excellent.
16:05Thank you very much.
16:06Oh, I feel a bit emotional.
16:07I've had such a bad experience
16:09with judges over the years.
16:10You've been lit it down once
16:13And you've been lit it down twice
16:16But everyone knows
16:18It's just a glamorous and bold
16:21Pretty good.
16:25You pleased?
16:25Yeah, very pleased.
16:26We've got a Christmas message
16:28which is to your new nephew, Grayson.
16:31Draw chords are in.
16:32Yep.
16:33The only thing I don't like
16:34is gold decorations.
16:37Don't go with white.
16:39But, obviously trying to curry favour
16:41with this judge
16:42with a massive bow.
16:44And it's plump.
16:45How do you have time to make bows?
16:47That's the difference between
16:48gladiators and strictly dancers.
16:51They have time to make bows.
16:54Thank God I'm no longer a dancer.
16:55Well, cheers, Susan and your martini.
17:09I think it's a lovely idea.
17:10I like the fabric
17:11and it's great that you've sewed
17:14these sparkly bits.
17:15But the martini glasses disappear a little.
17:18Yeah, it does.
17:18I think you needed a bit more contrast.
17:20If they'd been a different colour
17:22they might have leapt out a little bit more.
17:24It's interesting that you use sequins
17:27because they come unravelled.
17:28Yeah.
17:29This stuff is really difficult to sew.
17:31There's a couple of little raw bits.
17:33Also gold brocade phrase.
17:35But I think it's a really good effort.
17:37Mega festive.
17:38Bravo.
17:40I saw mummy kissing Santa Claus
17:47Underneath the mistletoe last night
17:54Well, it's a murkier Christmas tale.
17:58A bit of Christmas sleaze
18:00under the mistletoe.
18:01Yeah.
18:02My mother.
18:04I was hoping for a bit more than just
18:06ma'am.
18:07I mean, there isn't Santa Claus.
18:08He's the toweling.
18:09Santa's the toweling.
18:11So it's a story we need to unpack
18:13with a bit more thought.
18:14Slowly.
18:15I'm not sure about this fabric.
18:18Why?
18:18Because it's brown.
18:20And it's not very Christmassy.
18:22Christmas puddings are brown.
18:23Well, we could throw a bit of brandy over it
18:26and set fire to it.
18:27LAUGHTER
18:28Seems a little harsh.
18:32It's a little bit untidy.
18:35Got these little raw bits.
18:36Oh, God.
18:37He's had a hard life.
18:38How come you didn't sew this in?
18:43Oh, you don't know.
18:44I think I was eating a toffee crisp
18:46at the time, if I'm honest.
18:47LAUGHTER
18:48When do we set fire to it?
18:50LAUGHTER
18:51The judges will now rank the Christmas sacks
18:55from fourth to first place.
18:57Fourth place, we have Lucy.
19:01It's a little untidy.
19:04And I don't like brown.
19:05LAUGHTER
19:06I wish she had told you before.
19:08In third place is Susan.
19:11The martini glasses disappear.
19:14Oh, OK.
19:15In second place...
19:17Tom.
19:20Nothing much to choose between them.
19:22You can be really, really proud of it.
19:24It's brilliant.
19:24Thank you very much.
19:25In first place is Anton.
19:28APPLAUSE
19:29It's fabulous.
19:31I love the candle and all the bells.
19:34Thank you very much.
19:36So you can bob off now, enjoy yourselves, relax and chill,
19:39and you come back for the transformation challenge.
19:42Off you go.
19:44Shall we have an eggnog?
19:45No, I want a brandy.
19:46Brandy?
19:47Well done, you.
19:49Well done.
19:50We wish you a merry Christmas.
19:53We wish you a merry Christmas.
19:55We wish you a merry Christmas.
19:57We wish you a merry Christmas.
19:59Two, three, woo!
20:02What's green covered in tinsel and goes ribbit, ribbit?
20:06Mistletird.
20:08Ah.
20:08Mistletird?
20:09Yeah.
20:10Mistletird?
20:11Toad.
20:11Oh, mistletird?
20:12Toad.
20:12it all went swimmingly i have to say i mean this is not this is the best christmas i've ever had
20:21who knew bells would have such an effect you know anton's got his creativity hasn't he from his
20:26dancing so i perhaps could have just swayed it if i'd got the chords right it'd have been in mind
20:32esme said she wanted to burn it she doesn't like brown but they did acknowledge that it was a sack
20:39i'm actually really excited by the transformation challenge because like what's it going to be you've
20:43got no idea like we'll cross that bridge when we come to it which is basically how i approach life
20:52that bridge has arrived sooner than susan thinks hatrick and esme are about to get the party
20:58started welcome back sewers it's now time for the transformation challenge which is where you take
21:06something old unloved and a bit knackered and you use it up a bit a bit like i've tried to do with my
21:11feet they still look like hocks of ham but now they look like hocks of ham you might win in a raffle
21:17which is lovely so patrick what are you asking them to transform this week on this day of christmas
21:23we judges give to the party where inspired by the 12 days of christmas we would like you to make a fancy
21:36dress outfit for a child think swans milking maids geese leaping lords etc right when we look at them
21:47we must know what verse you did and we want to smile immediately all right okay now the judges aren't
21:55allowed to be here for this they're going to go out probably eat some chocolates and put the wrappers
22:00back in the tin off you pop now the adults have gone you've got an hour and a half off you go
22:06right that is cool i thought i've actually worn that with 12 possible characters to choose from
22:16our celebrities need to be decisive do you know what color swans legs are let me think about the
22:21last one i shaved if they're to transform their chosen garments in time this is a swan what i'm thinking
22:32i might just put this on the mannequin and call it a lady dancing i don't know all the 12 days of
22:37christmas i was the kid who was quiet and then shouted five gold rings
22:46so party wear into a fancy dress outfit inspired by the 12 days of christmas they could be quite
22:53literal it could be a swan or a pen or a drummer but it could be something a little more tangential
23:00as long as we can link it there are lots of birds involved there's lots of feathery fabrics
23:05and that lends itself obviously to our feathered friends we have cut them a bit of slack because
23:10we've given them these base outfits that they can use as a kind of structure to build their fancy
23:16dress outfit around there's also wadding they can use so they could make something 3d right i'm off to
23:24see what my true love has given to me i'm your true love oh no that's tall i need lots of padding
23:35you know to go in it like filling what i'm doing three french hens we've got uh kind of like
23:42gibbly bits awful uh we've got like a bit of red we've got a little bit of this
23:48we're going to rustle feathers that's what we're going to do oh there's feathers everywhere tom how
23:52are you i'm covered in feathers but that should be a good sign to what i'm doing seven swans are
23:57swimming do you like the swan's beak i'm going to go for what else is going on then have you got eyes
24:03i had not thought about eyes i'm guessing the child will have eyes yeah because they bring their own eyes
24:10so i've got a goose here i'm doing visa lane can't you tell can't you tell
24:20i'm absolutely quackers while most celebrities choose to make beautiful birds
24:26don't fight the sparkle lucy's choice what are you making udders udders you know the maids milking
24:33is a little more niche have you done another before this is my first udder surfing right that's
24:39quite a good udder isn't it do you think yeah well it's going to be a cow are you confident
24:44you'll know this is a cow i mean it's not a giraffe is it you know your animals so far i've done a bit
24:53of stitching on the washing machine what would i say washing machine sewing machine that's about
24:59fits on my arm to be really honest with you that's my swan do i hear the word swan from over the other
25:07side of the room i've got bird competition anyway i'm creating wings right hello dear i'm just checking
25:15out what you're doing i'm just trying to get a few tips since you did win the first one i need to know
25:20what well you are yeah but we've moved on from sax so i'm i'm about where i start
25:28sewers you're halfway through i've just sewed this with a slight opening gonna just stuff with filling
25:37while it's traditional to stuff birds at christmas if this doesn't say bird i don't know what does lucy's
25:42udders are having an identity crisis i am worried that this looks like a turkey and she's not the
25:51only one getting muddled we're gonna be putting this tartan hood on my french hen susan's french
26:00hen has become a scot i probably should have picked something less scottish but it's cool hello it looks
26:07fabulous i think i might like this for the baby really i might take it home with me if it all goes
26:12really bad and you sort of have to lie yeah you'll just know because i won't pick it up at the end
26:20i'm just attaching patches in the udder to the cow look at that
26:24hey wow my daughter would never let me make her a dress like this
26:34i've just seen lucy's tennis one it could be a swan no milking things nice excellent cows are milking
26:44hello cheeky lady do you like it interesting very avant-garde do you think yeah you've definitely
26:52got the edgy number thank you right so it's 15 minutes stress stress all the celebrities are
27:00rushing to add familiar features might make an egg geese are laying and lucy's milking it
27:08to live life dangerously i would like to make udders for the head as well
27:14i'm only going to need about 10 minutes and then i'm just going to cry in the toilet
27:18like christmas day really for susan
27:22bugger christmas is already by humbug i've sewed strips of embellishment over the beak
27:28i'm hiding the end of the beak which i really wasn't meant to do so i've got to unpick it which is
27:36really annoying well i'm having a lovely time making a golden egg a five six seven and a one
27:42i'm tongue too much fossing i said lie oh my god i'm attempting to sew the swan's feet
27:52and that is a swan's foot i put some leggings on the head and now i'm stitching the udders
27:58with no one else dressed like this you know they've got um so this again five minutes come on oh god no
28:04oh should we hang the egg on the bottom oh i love the feed it's that competitive gladiator
28:12i've got it in here come on i'm a bit worried i'll ruin it one minute you're running out of time
28:20that's stuck no childhood wanna wear this shove the eyes on celebrity sewers needles up i did it
28:28guys no bother as the scots say it's like beyonce if she was a hen imagine going out of the house
28:36dressed like this mama's got piles please bring your mannequins forward got a lot of birds going on
28:48aren't we lucy fantastic genius oh i know who my winner is you did the audience
29:08a collection of party clothes transformed into outfits that celebrate the song
29:12the 12 days of christmas judges you can take a break from wrapping my fabulous presents
29:19come and have a look esme and patrick having a clue whose outfits whose
29:24well that's quite a lot of birds ooh la la yes somebody's geese have been a laying
29:29what do you think this is well i mean it is very clearly a bird yes which of our birds is it is it
29:45it's not a french hen because it's got a tartan hat on although the french did like the scots yes well
29:52maybe it's got bird yeah i don't remember that one from the rhyme it's not the swan it's not a geese
30:00is it a calling bird i don't know but i'll tell you what this hat is brilliantly engineered look how
30:07great the fit on that hat is the feathered dress has been used to perfection i mean it does look like
30:15something you'd wear to a party doesn't it yeah i mean there's hints of pipers because they're scottish
30:21is it a bird is it a piper or is it a plane
30:35this to me is a swan yes size orange beak it's great how this orange matches this i love the way
30:43that they've used felt just to cut out bright orange feet this party dress has given us all the white
30:50feathers that we need yes it's really wearable i think it's a great fancy dress outfit love it
30:56it's brilliant
31:07this is maids are milking isn't it this is the cow that the maids who are milking yes are milking what
31:12do you think these are the nipples i think they call them udders but we can go with nipples i think
31:18this is very amusing i'm a maid milking it she can't resist i think the use of the fabrics here
31:29is brilliant we've just got a couple of judicious brown spots on our cow just to signpost it i love
31:36the little horns if they are horns the udders i just think are brilliant i mean this looks like
31:42a pair of leggings that have been somewhat crudely manipulated yes i've rarely been more amused
31:49by anything i've seen in this room that's the sound effect you need to make whilst wandering around
31:55in this costume but i'm not going to wear it you're lost i'll be wearing it anyway
32:09this is another bird which bird begins with a g and rhymes with moose
32:16goose correct that's what i think it is anyway again i think it's brilliant use of the feathery
32:21party frock the beak the eyes you get a lot of storytelling there any eggs you can see no what
32:28about the egg at the back what about this egg what did you think that was i didn't see it doing a golden
32:35poo for christmas yes it is laying a golden christmas egg i think there's some really lovely details in
32:42this it's great pass off to all of you this is an absolute christmas cracker i don't think we've seen
32:48transformations this good in a long while esme and patrick will now rank the festive outfits
32:57whose will be gifted victory and whose goose is cooked in fourth place
33:06it's that one with the tartan well that's susie's we really liked it but we didn't know what it was
33:12it's a french hen but the tartan threw you a little beret and maybe a string of onions or like a
33:18carrying a baguette anything french really
33:22merci in third place is our swan a swimming tom i mean that is seriously impressive loved it it's just
33:33amongst a menagerie of other brilliance in second place is
33:37oh that's lucy's oh my god i can't believe it did so well it's mad and that's why we liked it i just
33:48knew how to make udders sometimes you find your calling in life well done lucy which means in
33:53first place is our wonderful goose a lay-in i mean it was all a very close run thing you've created
34:04this wonderful shape but the crowning glory is its little egg what a day what a day i could
34:11rarely have ever dreamt of yes one again sounds too grand doesn't it i just came out on top
34:17i couldn't believe that i came second don't think i deserved it from a technical point of view from
34:23a novelty point of view yeah i wipe the floor with everybody brilliant a bit disappointing i came third
34:30but to be fair just look at that lineup they were just all fantastic every time i hear three french
34:36hands i'm gonna start wildly screaming or i don't know speaking in a scottish accent
34:53it's a new day and the celebrities must now make garments to fit a model
34:58nice to meet you how are you it's nice to see you whoever shines in this final challenge could
35:05walk away with the christmas sewing bee trophy in my head it looks great but whether that actually
35:12happens i have no idea hurry down the journey tonight welcome back celebrity sewers and hello to our
35:21fabulous festive models so today's made to measure challenge the judges would like you to create
35:27an outfit based on your favorite christmas treat mine would be a hot man wrapped in bacon
35:35you've got four hours and your time starts now
35:42put your arms up for me you hold it on your waist put it all the way to the ground
35:46i love food at christmas i cook it's my job i'll do the ham because you know i mean it's hammer
35:52like a soggy brussels sprout but i feel like christmas is the time where i'm allowed to and
35:59no one's going so tell me why did you pick this challenge we all love a christmas treat true we've
36:08given them complete free reign they could dress their model up as a christmas put you know something
36:12that's literal yeah or it could just be something that takes inspiration from their christmas treat
36:17we just want to be able to follow that story but they probably never done fitting on the body right
36:25that's going to be difficult as me what would be your christmas treat cherry
36:31it's quite sweet just like you as me sweet and alcoholic yeah
36:37oh the fabric's lovely isn't it right let's go good morning morning what is your treat something
36:50that i know it's going to be in abundance in my house at christmas which is champagne right uh champagne
36:56i wanted to incorporate old ballroom dresses something a little old school lovely
37:01anton's aiming for high fashion with a dress inspired by a glass of his wife's favorite festive tipple
37:07a fishtail skirt represents the base while a structured bodice will mimic the rim of the
37:13champagne flute the front is going to sit out and also i love all this stuff so we're going to use
37:18this in the glass as though it's champagne wow it's ambitious but i think if you pull it off it'll
37:25be a knockout hopefully cheers cheers nice while anton plans to toast his victory tom's hoping success will
37:34be sweet what's your treat gingerbread gingerbread oh you don't love gingerbread and you've got a ginger
37:40wife i have got a ginger wife you love the gin you're ginger i know you know what i mean you're
37:44my favorite i'm of course yeah don't try and eat me i won't have that the base of tom's gingerbread
37:51inspired outfit will be a satin pinafore dress decorations include rickrack icing a candy stripe belt
37:59and an assortment of treats plus one final touch there's going to be a big boat to win esme over
38:06big boss ready as well loves the boat yeah i think it'd suit you actually do you know what thank you
38:10it's all yours if when it's finished yeah we'll see how good it is you'll know yeah you'll know
38:16right hilariously i need a nice pencil to make time come on
38:23it takes something special to win the sewing bee crown and susan's sewing a design inspired by the
38:33after-dinner classic vionetta this is a ice dessert that i would have as a kid at christmas my mom would
38:41say serve yourselves and we'd be like stabbing it trying to get it all crunchy and get to the bottom
38:45susan's making an asymmetric mini dress with a base of satin white and brown organza ruffles
38:54represent the iconic chocolate and vanilla layers i'm pleating to create the frilly chocolate the key
39:01is to not make it look garish so it's elevated yes it's haute couture chocolate couture oh
39:09chocolate couture ciao while susan indulges her sweet tooth lucy good morning fancies something
39:19more savory i'm doing blue cheese and onions pickled onions that's what i like to eat what time of day
39:26are you getting stuck into the blue cheese and pickled onions straight away before the presents i just mean
39:31from december lucy's festive cheese dress features blue overlay and pickled onion pearls with a cream
39:39cracker handbag borrowing a style from another era the dress emulates a wedge of cheese the 60s style
39:47lends itself to the shape of cheese i think the 60s and cheese go hand in hand also this is very
39:52clearly veiny cheese it's making me very peckish he's going for cheese see you but attaching the
40:00delicate veiny fabric is no mean feat the pin coming up it's stuck on the pin it's so wonky i'm
40:08going to unpick it what a shame although lucy's cheesed off the other celebrities careful i don't
40:15ping it i'm ready for the first fitting yay how's that it's quite nice isn't it anton's champagne flute
40:24is far from finished this lovely fabric will sit underneath so it will kick out he's adding multiple
40:30layers well i wouldn't expect anything less than this sparkly affair i'm doing a little gathering
40:36technique what you do is you put a couple of rows of stitching in there pull and it starts to gather
40:43we can get a nice champagne effect so you love champagne and who cooks hannah my wife i do topping
40:49up and entertainment that's my role i just bring charisma and a speaker that's what i bring then
40:58yeah yeah go on thank you i love that you can come round i might well might even bring the frog
41:06bring the frock for me i love that if your wife doesn't want it of course you'll be a hannah all
41:10right yeah sodder sod hannah hannah who merry christmas hannah
41:23celebrity sorrows halfway oh wow i'm so behind while lucy races to catch up hey anton do you want a
41:33quick dance the other celebrities five six seven are kicking back one two three cut one add the jump
41:45as well and the big finish thank you for that a show stopper is certainly on susan's mind couple up
41:50there i need massive volume of thrills but bigger isn't always better i'm hand sewing the decorations look
41:59at these big spades of hands it's well difficult i want lovely show buttons down the middle my needle
42:06is really getting stuck my hands are too big to get behind let me just bring it up a little bit
42:12oh that's not even working either tom might be battling buttons but anton has to make an entire
42:18glass of champagne this is paper pattern for my flute
42:22oh god i don't know what shape uh let me have a little thing and he's not the only one
42:37i was making a champagne flute but maybe the coupe would have a bit more of a effect sorry my love i'll
42:44be with you in one second uh what do i want right thank you so i'm basically going with a coupe
42:56i mean sure there's a glue gun somewhere
43:00right i'm catching up it's a blue cheese i love blue cheese and pickled onion on a cracker i once got
43:06back from a christmas party and sat on the floor by the fridge and ate a whole wheel of camembert
43:14so celebrity sewers
43:21you've got one hour oh gosh i think you'll find craig will want that back rather soon well he's not
43:28having it a little stab on the finger to join the many this is more dangerous than the gladi is tom has
43:37really gone to town on his gingerbread creation i hope he gets it finished i'm now sewing ice cream
43:44onto my dress as we go there's more and more material so it's hard to manage susan's is pretty
43:49complicated she's got all those layers she's actually still got quite a lot left to do these
43:55look like pickled onions i'm just going to use these as decoration lucy reads well as a baby cheese and
44:01i really like the little pickled onions but it's simplest dress what anton wouldn't give for a simple
44:08slice of cheese this is looking a bit like a shield at the moment until it's the most difficult it's
44:16supposed to be the flute of champagne with the froth but yeah at the moment it's looking more suit of armor
44:25it seems that somebody's eating all the chocolates i don't know who it is but what i could interest
44:33you in is 30 minutes left no i'm making a cheese cracker handbag which is going to be all the rage
44:44everyone's going to want one while the girls rush to accessorize headband tom has gone rogue ditching
44:53his needle and fixing decorations with glue and some heavy metal this is great work of an iron
45:00right quick kiss on the hammer you know and we'll get there the true gladiator inside of me has got to
45:06come through and take the win but tom's not the only gladiator in the arena is it still too shieldy
45:15anton's model should fit in at a champagne reception not ancient rome maybe sequence could work oh no
45:23it's still too much of this i think it looks like richard of lionheart right just need glue oh well the
45:30gladiators nearly done you know my gladiator name the spike the spike how about if we put some of this
45:38on the outside it's like chanel let's try glue the back of that oh disaster snapped i need to put this
45:49back together how much time have we got five minutes cheeky geese a bit of blink do you know what
45:56me oh no if it falls down i'm gonna run out of time one two come on i'm going to sir handle that oh god that's stuck
46:06one minute my naughty little puddings panicking stress oh no just pinning you're gonna go through
46:13this buckle oh good this could take forever finish a nightmare let's see it needles up sewers it's time
46:24for the catwalk do you think you're enough that's cool it's actually really cool this is christmas
46:32yes man whoo fashion ooh ooh ooh fashion ooh ooh ooh fashion ooh ooh ooh ooh fashion ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
46:45well i wish it could be christmas every day work work work work
46:54ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
47:24it's an absolute triumph I mean it really really leaps out at me that this
47:30is decorated gingerbread it's got very strong Hansel and Gretel vibes you've
47:35managed to pull off this amazing feat of making something that could feel quite
47:40novelty actually feel really fun and chic to wear one thing I just wish you'd
47:45put this icing right over the edge you've got half straight half curve half
47:49straight and also did you sew these decorations or did you iron them on
47:55stitch some iron some what did you stitch well I'll look there's ironed there's
48:04ironed there's ironed there's ironed I think they're all ironed but I do think it
48:12looks like a gingerbread and you've got bow you like it yeah I do it's great thanks
48:19so much
48:35did it it him did it him well I love the idea of doing cheese yeah I'd like your
48:47pickled onions and I love this fabric it's lovely isn't it but it's puckering
48:53because this yellow underneath it's longer than the top layer it is a simple dress
48:59but the storytelling is absolutely bang on it's a literal cracker it's very
49:05distinctly 60s the pearl is reflected in the little pearl in the chain in the
49:09handle there's a brilliant label called mother of pearl and Amy Powney who was the
49:13designer that was her sort of signature detail she needs to watch out she needs
49:18to watch out because there are pickled onion silt and dresses coming for her it
49:22is a treat lovely oh thank you I remember a time when you dressed as a lump of
49:26cheese at Christmas wedges of cheese yes rum and I've still got your cheese costume have you
49:31you you're not having it back
49:36diamonds are forever hold one up and then press it touch it stroke it and then dress it
49:50this perfectly reads glass of champagne there's a real elegance to it you've got the frothy what
50:08the french called the mousse frothing over the top of the glass I am not a hundred percent convinced
50:13by the shape it's really hard to make an elegant curve in one piece of material you just didn't have
50:21the time to do that now it doesn't take away at all from the fact that it's got tons of impact and
50:27tons of elegance the fit on the dress is fantastic and the way it moves that net at the bottom it's pure
50:34sort of ginger rogers business absolutely I love the frill it looks 3d that reminds me of the old days
50:40reams of netting and we've got all this froth you know I tried my best you've got glitter on
50:47everywhere in my hands my clothes but I feel comfortable with the glitter
50:52when I don't have enough glitter on I feel I feel naked well it looks great thank you
51:10it's a sweet harmony let's go together
51:17right now
51:21oh yeah
51:29Hi that's me
51:30I instantly feel like I'm in trouble
51:33there's one thing I'm going to say let me know we've got this piece that's
51:40longer than the frill oh gosh yeah but I think it looks great you've done a lot of work thank you
51:48and how was it sewing those on as a complete sewing novice that was tough well you've handled all of these
51:54layers amazingly and left it feeling so light and fluffy it manages to feel like very very elevated
