00:00Ladies and girls, we have a special guest today.
00:02She's been performing for crowds for eight, since she was eight years old,
00:0512-year-old Taylor Swift.
00:11Hey, everybody, I'm Taylor.
00:12I'm going to be doing some songs for you guys tonight.
00:15I hope you guys are having a great time.
00:16Very early on, she just knew she was going to have to work hard.
00:23I mean, it depends on how far back we want to go.
00:25But it escalated from school play, theater group, karaoke nights.
00:35I'm going to be doing some songs for you guys.
00:38And I hope you guys are having a great time, because I sure am.
00:41Calling around to festivals and amusement parks
00:44to see if there was a spot for a little kid with a guitar
00:47and a couple of speakers.
00:50It was as basic as you can possibly imagine,
00:53dragging guitars through airports.
00:56Piling them into a rental car.
01:00Hit another city, another city, and just keep going.
01:07And she, from a very early age,
01:10always knew exactly how she wanted things to be.
01:14And she was always planning what her headline tour would be like.
01:18You know, I never heard her say the word fame or money.
01:26It was always just about the opportunity
01:29to go sing her songs
01:33and have everybody else singing those same words back to her.
01:36She would do these theaters,
01:41and they kept getting bigger and bigger
01:43and sold out faster and faster.
01:45So it was a gradual thing.
01:53But I don't think that when you are doing that,
01:58you ever, for a split second,
02:01take the time to think,
02:02it will become this.
02:43The European tour was so intense that, by the end, I was exhausted past a point that
02:57I can remember.
03:00So we need the break after Wembley to recharge not only our bodies, our energy, but our passion
03:11for giving that much every night.
03:16So that by the time we got back to the U.S., we were all just like fired up.
03:35As we finished the massive European leg of the Ares tour, it's really just been trying
03:42to get back up to speed, being home.
03:49We have this two-month break, kind of regroup and catch our breath a little bit.
03:53Oh, buddy.
03:54I'm taking care of my home life, and then we'll get ready for the final push.
03:59I love traveling.
04:00I love my job.
04:01It's the best.
04:02And everything's planned for us, and then you get home and you're like, what do I do?
04:07And you have to learn how to schedule things for yourself again.
04:12So why I'm really excited for this break is so that I can sit right here and practice.
04:21I do live with my parents, my little brother, and my grandma.
04:26I love coming home to them, getting, like, home-cooked meals and stuff.
04:30I am eventually gonna get my own apartment in L.A.
04:33Yes, don't embarrass me.
04:36Definitely, for sure.
04:37It's a long time to be away.
04:40Rachel and I don't have children, but, I mean, I went crazy how much I missed the dog.
04:47You know, just trying to get back into being a normal human and having a schedule and adulting.
04:55Trying to get life back together.
04:57It's four months.
04:58It's a long time to just check out and have fun, but come back to, like, oh, reality.
05:04My car registration.
05:05Yikes.
05:10Love this, love this, love this, love this, love this, love this, love this, love this,
05:14love this, love this, love this, love this, love this, love this.
05:16Okay.
05:17Um.
05:18So we'll just start in show order.
05:21Yeah, let's put on all the...
05:23You know, if you want, we can take these for a spin for the run-through.
05:28Sunset.
05:29Hello, Miami.
05:31Yeah, this should be fun.
05:33Yeah, this should be first probably.
05:35So pretty.
05:37Nostalgia is a huge part of the Eros tour.
05:40If you were 12 years old during the Red era, you're going to remember certain things that
05:46you saw and certain things that you felt.
05:48It's my job to bring those feelings and those visuals back to you.
05:53Wardrobe is one way to do that.
05:55Oh, I love it.
05:57Oh, I'm so excited to come.
06:00The costume design for the Eros tour was undertaken by my longtime stylist, Joseph Cassell.
06:05He's been with me since I was 16.
06:07The Eros tour is all about the fans, you know.
06:14The reason I'm able to do my job so well is because I am a fan too.
06:24I love the organic way that Taylor and I work.
06:27It's like this secret language that we have.
06:29She would send me images.
06:31She'll be like, ooh, send me an image.
06:34And I'm like, aha.
06:35Wow.
06:36I was like, I designed Epiphany last night.
06:38You did?
06:39And I pulled about 50 different pictures from online.
06:41Nice.
06:42For the acoustic set.
06:43Awesome.
06:44I want it to be all 50s dresses.
06:46For the tour, we chose to be a little reflective and sentimental and tie in the designers who had been with Taylor from the beginning.
06:56I mean, dancing all night, yeah, my feet ache, but I'm wearing Louboutins.
07:01Like, it is a privilege for these feet to ache like this.
07:06This was designed by Roberto Cavalli.
07:09She puts it on in the dark on stage.
07:11The Magic of Velcro.
07:12The video for 22, I remember it like it was yesterday.
07:15Reputation.
07:17These strips are all sequined by hand.
07:20Cavalli, 1989.
07:22I remember meeting with Versace in Milan, and I was like, oh, my gosh.
07:27When you see the Versace bodysuit just made of all these crystals and the light hits it and it's just...
07:35Oh, my God.
07:36Ooh.
07:37So obsessed with this.
07:39This is my new favorite, for sure.
07:41It somehow, like, heals me from having the stomach flu.
07:45It can take me from being utterly exhausted.
07:48I'm just like, nope.
07:50If I'm wearing this, I gotta level up.
07:52I gotta be on the level of this outfit.
07:58So here's another option of the coat.
08:00It's less overtly military, you know?
08:03When I start working on something with tea...
08:07You wanna try the white one?
08:09I'm only thinking about the effect that it has on her.
08:13Oh, my God.
08:16That's amazing.
08:19Until I step into a stadium and I'm, like, blown away.
08:24Listening for the best.
08:26My reputation's never been worse, so...
08:29You must like me, fool me.
08:31Thousands of people dress in a way that reflects one of Taylor's looks.
08:43They use tape, they use stones, they use whatever.
08:46I am a lover.
08:47She has an outfit with, like, a lot of rainbow fringe.
08:50That's kind of where this came in.
08:52The commitment the fans have is beyond the music.
08:57There's a connection on a deep soul level with Taylor.
09:02During her New Jersey concert, Taylor debuted a new dress in this beautiful burgundy.
09:07Again, like the jacket.
09:09I really love this one.
09:10Is it cool that I said all that?
09:11Is it too soon to do this yet?
09:12Is it too soon to do this yet?
09:13Is it too soon to do this yet?
09:14Cause I know that it's dead like it.
09:15My favorite part of the show is the reputation set.
09:19My mom made this outfit from scratch.
09:20I have, like, a reputation bodysuit inside.
09:21I love it.
09:22Like, it turns into a bodysuit.
09:23I'm a reputation girl.
09:24Of course.
09:25Taylor Swift's most iconic outfit on the Ares Tour is, of course, this never-changing reputation bodysuit.
09:50Which we've only gotten one the entire 131 shows.
09:54What we're waiting for right now is to see if Taylor Swift is going to come out with a new reputation outfit.
09:58What's the same?
09:59Same outfit.
10:00Yeah.
10:01We were clowning.
10:02We keep waiting for a new reputation bodysuit just for funsies.
10:07If she were to have a new reputation bodysuit, what would you want it to look like?
10:14This is the new one.
10:16This is the new one.
10:17Yeah.
10:18Oh, it doesn't look bad at all.
10:25No, it does.
10:26It does.
10:27See this?
10:28It's gotta come up.
10:29It has to come up because they think my boobs are here, but they're here.
10:33You know?
10:34The original catsuit was made from a different fabric.
10:39That was all the fabric that there was in the world.
10:41So we had to recreate the fabric for the second one and for this one.
10:45I know what you mean.
10:46Yeah, it's just really annoying and I have to do really athletic shit in this.
10:49We thought we could fix it because there was no time for them to actually recreate a new one in time for Miami.
10:55They couldn't do it.
11:04You know?
11:05What?
11:06Yeah.
11:07Slay.
11:08What other...
11:09Oh!
11:10And you have a piece.
11:11That's it.
11:12Womp.
11:13Womp.
11:14No.
11:15What the way?
11:16Action.
11:17I've never done that before.
11:18Dude, that was great.
11:19I'm gonna give one last time.
11:20Slay.
11:21This is the tour gift wall where at the end of each tour we get a plaque thanking us
11:42for the you know for participating in the tour this was my first tour with her and I started
11:47with Taylor in 2009 in the trajectory of my professional life and career yeah that's
11:54probably the zero to 60 right there strapped onto that rocket and have been able to do all of this
12:01with her which is great remember this it was her first birthday present from Taylor it's got a
12:16little photo of mommy and Sophie daddy and Sophie and then Miss Taylor as she calls her yes Miss Taylor
12:23we had both our kids while I was working for her so she was kind of around both of the births and
12:30I think that this was it was the first child yeah it was the first kid born while in the band yeah
12:35um and so yeah it was I think it was a special moment yeah um yeah it's so wonderful being able to
12:45carry a professional family with you as you go through phases of life as you go through ups and
12:52downs and heartbreaks there is such a special bond among the touring family that's it's it's like having
13:06another family there are the only other people really in the world who know what this is like before
13:13the show after the show on the off days we are like this and that's not normal it's like she's handpicked
13:24these incredible people to be a part of this family most of the people I'm out here on the road with
13:31have known me since high school but also there are people that I just got to know in this phase of my
13:44life Jeslyn is one of the most talented resilient loving people I've ever been around she was the
13:53newest addition to our backup singers I started with her reputation I had never done a stadium tour
13:59before and so the first show was just like wow this is a lot of people we've been singing together for a
14:07couple of years and when Jeslyn got sick it was the first blow that the tour family experienced
14:17emotionally it was like completely unfathomable to us sucks while on tour I was diagnosed with breast
14:30cancer um and obviously it was devastating but every weekend we had a show so I still flew to the next
14:43city did a show with everyone and like in the middle of the week when we weren't doing shows
14:47I would fly back to LA and just have biopsies and just poked and broaded to learn really what I had
14:53to do treatment wise and then hopped back on stage and pretended like nothing was happening
14:59I'll never forget when she told us everyone was just in shambles and it's the not knowing
15:07when I let Taylor know she came storming in with hugs and crying and just saying I'm so sorry and her mom
15:16said you just take care of you and we'll be here when you're ready
15:20so six months I had to like take off and go through chemo surgery I had edema I had like skin issues
15:36I usually have all this curly hair lost about 75 percent of my hair I felt and looked completely
15:47different and just kind of watch my friends on live streams in the show it was a hard one because we got
15:56to come to come be together for months she was home by herself isolated from the family we just
16:11wanted her to know that no matter what under any circumstances if she wanted to come back she could
16:17goodbye treatment
16:25I said how quickly can I get back on tour after I'm done with radiation my doctor said that night
16:33but you have to get back into shape she literally finished radiation and got on a plane I actually
16:43have a video of when we saw each other at the hotel just coming back to this joy-filled show and these
16:53people just emphasized even more how much we're a family
17:06I cannot believe that she was back in a few months the will to come back and do the hardest show ever
17:17none of us could believe it I still can't
17:47blacked out right and just keep your body still in no way do I ever apply this to my at any point in the show
17:59just want to flag that as I do every time I have to do pull-ups
18:03strong dislike two thumbs down you have gotten stronger on this throughout the years it's from
18:17all the pent-up rage and resentment I have for them so you can see you leave on Thursday night
18:22Thursday morning go there do a full run-through in the stadium which I'm really excited about with
18:30costumes I want to be like back in it so much that I can like not be so like remember your stuff that
18:38you don't want to forget like you know you don't want to see me do this without a rehearsal that's what
18:43you don't want yeah there are a lot of things that we pulled off on this tour that I've never
18:50even attempted on past tours I think the longest show I ever did before was two hours and 15 minutes
18:57I never would have believed you if you would have told me we would be doing a three and a half hour show
19:02now saying that is one thing doing that physically is another I've never worked out this much in my
19:11life it's horrible
19:13I really had to up my game in terms of physical training
19:23six months ahead of my first rehearsal running on the treadmill every single day at the tempo of
19:32the songs that I was playing while singing them out loud
19:37you just don't want them to see you panting 1989 and reputation are very high cardio anything's hard
19:47when you're scaling a stage that goes the entire length of an NFL stadium I think I run like eight
19:54miles in the show
19:55once we get to Miami the turnaround time from landing and performing will be very short
20:04we leave in six days haven't played the show in a couple months and there are some things I want
20:11to make sure that I don't mess up
20:13my ex-man brought his new girlfriend she's like oh my god
20:17I'm just gonna shake into the fellow over there what the hell I did here
20:22won't you come on with me baby we can shake shake shake
20:25all right
20:34oh we are so back
20:41can I do a video like out in the stadium with my cat we'll find a place out in the stadium but it'll be
20:54like me walking in with my cat just like take my sunglasses off and like so it would be behind me
21:03and then once I stopped start going around me like this it's basically like we're back in
21:09the office you know yeah yeah and I've got my most well-behaved cat for it
21:14she is my best one
21:25what an idiot
21:31shirts on backwards
21:33I knew something looked weird
21:35it's wild being back so it's lots of hugging telling the same story like 50 times as far as what
21:44you've been up to over the break it's awesome it's awesome to be back it doesn't feel like work
21:47Florida one two three four we are starting our last leg of this tour we have 18 more shows left
21:56which is very bittersweet it's very sad
21:59we're cramming yeah cramming for the test at miami stadium
22:10a little nervous but but you know it's because we want it to be good
22:15oh man well we'll see we'll see what I remember
22:20I keep thinking today is a show day
22:25huh
22:26I keep thinking today is a show day
22:28it is a show day
22:29it is a show day in my brain it has to be a show day
22:31I have got to like
22:32I need to do a full run through
22:36because my brain just it's like I can't remember a single part of the show
22:40we should all treat tonight like a show day
22:42I showed it um fitting time
22:46what are you trying on?
22:50oh when are you bringing out new rep?
22:52that's what I was about to say are we actually going to get to see it?
22:55I know I'm like I got really excited all of a sudden
22:57I gotta see if this can even happen because they put my boob cups
23:02on my rib cage
23:04either way I want to see it
23:07it's so beautiful
23:08it's not that beautiful the way it fits me now
23:11I don't know how you guys manage this
23:28oh wait how does it fit so well
23:34this is beautiful
23:35I'm really glad they're here to document this
23:38because they documented the other the other way
23:40oh
23:40it's perfect
23:42it is
23:43nothing's going to pop out
23:45and look it's like
23:46it's in the
23:47how it is in the right spot
23:48because Diana's a genius
23:50you guys took the cups out?
23:51what happened?
23:52oh it's now my favorite
23:55I didn't see this coming
23:57oh my gosh
23:58that whole look is amazing
24:00what the
24:02this I don't know
24:03I don't know
24:04I don't know
24:05I don't know how you did it
24:07I truly don't
24:10when I tell you guys that the bra
24:11was in a corset here
24:14like a second row of others
24:18oh I'm so excited
24:20I'm so excited
24:20I've never had an alternate outfit
24:23for the reputation section
24:25not once
24:25people are going to lose their mind
24:28as we were getting ready
24:49to go back into the shows again
24:51Taylor was like
24:52mom
24:52I'm really worried
24:54I'm trying to go back in my mind
24:56and run through the show
24:57and I get to certain spots
24:59and it just stops
25:00and I said
25:01don't worry about it
25:03I said
25:04you're going to get back on that stage
25:06and everything will come flooding back
25:08I guarantee it
25:09and I hoped that I was right
25:11but I didn't know
25:13performing that show
25:16is incredibly technical
25:18and hard
25:19this tour isn't kind of like
25:21oh we just fly by the seat of our pants around here
25:23no
25:23like
25:24we stage manage the shit out of this show
25:26we're dealing with lots of production elements
25:31lighting
25:33screen content
25:35pyro
25:36moving floors
25:37confetti
25:39costumes
25:40choreography
25:41there's so many moving parts
25:43and it has to be
25:45no mistakes
25:46perfect timing
25:47there's a lot going on
25:51that happens really fast
25:54a lot of fast cues
25:55from one end of the stage to the other
25:58see piano lift up
26:00go
26:01it's nerve wracking
26:023.3 UFO
26:04go
26:05go
26:08go
26:09go
26:09it takes a lot
26:14taking the right stuff out
26:16at the right times
26:16so
26:17we all have to communicate well
26:19we're always moving
26:20the wings can be challenging
26:24we have had incidences where they broke
26:26if there's high winds
26:28it gets really hard for them
26:29because it's super heavy
26:30Q4301
26:34go
26:35she's singing
26:41and having to engage
26:43and having to figure out
26:44what's coming next
26:45she has some flexibility
26:49in where she might go
26:51but there are sometimes
26:52when it's very exact
26:53and if she's not standing
26:55in the right place
26:56it's actually dangerous
26:57I don't want to fall in a hole
26:59and I don't want to have like
27:01pyro go off on my head
27:02I legitimately celebrate
27:04like every moment
27:04that something doesn't go wrong
27:06everybody is firing
27:10on all cylinders
27:10I work in the wardrobe department
27:26and I also am
27:30one of Taylor's dressers
27:31there's two of us
27:31every alpha change
27:34is about
27:35a minute
27:37and 15
27:38or less
27:38our fastest quick change
27:40though
27:40is 39 seconds
27:41with her in the room
27:42those quick changes
27:45are like nothing
27:46you've ever seen before
27:47it is like watching
27:51a NASCAR race
27:53how many quick changes
27:55does she have?
27:5620 quick changes
27:58our crew helped us build
28:00four quick change booths
28:02from there
28:02we kind of travel
28:03through the underworld
28:04of the stage
28:05it's all very very fast
28:07we don't really have time
28:12for snags
28:13it's very choreographed
28:14every second counts
28:16every millisecond counts
28:17there were moments
28:20where I thought
28:21I don't know
28:22if these costume changes
28:24are gonna happen in time
28:26I'm only off the stage
28:28for a maximum
28:29of two minutes
28:29at a time
28:30those transitions
28:32it's like
28:32I'm going under the stage
28:34I'm getting on a weird
28:35like pulley system
28:36I'm getting pulled
28:38over here
28:39meanwhile
28:39I'm unzipping my thing
28:40I'm running upstairs
28:42I'm going into a different
28:43quick change room
28:44on a whole different floor
28:45I'm ripping this off
28:46I'm putting this on
28:48stomp your feet
28:48three times
28:49it's literally
28:50the most complicated system
28:52you have no idea
28:54the panic
28:55of worrying
28:57you're not gonna be dressed
28:58in time
28:58for the song to start
28:59and it is that panic
29:01that drives me
29:03to never be late
29:03I remember one time
29:10I was running
29:10from the Evermore era
29:12I trip over the hem
29:14of my dress
29:15bust my knee
29:17I skid
29:19the palm
29:20of my hand
29:21off
29:22hobble
29:23into the quick change room
29:25blood's coming
29:26down my hand
29:27I'm changing
29:28into the reputation
29:29body suit
29:29the skin
29:30that's flapping off
29:32I just pull it off
29:33more blood
29:33they don't have
29:34a band-aid back there
29:35wasn't late
29:38wasn't late
29:41for the intro
29:42of that song
29:43the fans noticed it
29:45a couple days later
29:46they're like
29:46oh her palm's gone
29:48I was like
29:50I am not acknowledging
29:51this
29:51nothing's wrong
29:53it's always been like that
29:54what's going on
29:55I thought you said
30:00she might want to go back up
30:00doesn't matter

30:07and I'm so glad
30:07I made it in a rehearsal
30:08you know what I mean
30:09yeah
30:10can I talk to
30:11the dancers real quick
30:12about how I was supposed to
30:13fall off that thing
30:14because I've completely forgotten
30:15can you hold Balin for me
30:17yeah she'll just remind me
30:19and I'll just do it right

30:35in three
30:35three and a half hours
30:36that's not too bad
30:37it's been way worse before
30:39that's almost nothing
30:39way better than what I would be
30:41good job
30:41my first mistake was
30:43tell me
30:43is it
30:44baby let the games begin

33:42when you hear the word
33:44lightning
33:44that's
33:46when we start having to
33:48really worry about
33:50postponements

34:06wonderful
34:07just
34:08cinema
34:09just
34:10drama
34:10just
34:11it adds to it
34:12it adds to the show

35:11first song i'm going to do is
35:16this is me trying
35:18and then i'm going into
35:20daylight
35:46i've been having a hard time adjusting
35:54had the shiniest wheels now they're resting
35:57didn't know if you'd care if i came back
36:01have a lot of regrets about that
36:05pulled the car off the road to the lookout
36:08could have followed my fears all the way down
36:12maybe i don't quite know what to say
36:15but i'm here in your doorway
36:17i just wanted you to know
36:20this is me trying
36:22i just wanted you to know
36:27this is me trying
36:30and i can still see it all in my mind
36:38all the you all the me it's a twine
36:41once believed love would be black and white
36:44but it's golden
36:46and i can still see it all in my head
36:50back and forth from new york sneaking in your bed
36:54i almost believed life would be burning red
36:57but it's golden
36:59but it's golden
36:59like daylight
37:01like daylight
37:04like daylight
37:07daylight
37:11cause i don't wanna look at anything else now that i saw you
37:18i don't wanna think of anything else now that i thought of you
37:23i don't wanna think of anything else now that i thought of you
37:25i've been sleeping so long in a twenty year dark night
37:31i just wanted you to know that this is me trying
37:46i just wanted you to know that this is me trying
37:53i just wanted you to know that this is me trying
38:04i love all of you guys so so much
38:19and i feel heard and seen and loved
38:23and there's one thing i i admire many things about you
38:27but there's one thing that i'll never forget
38:29um i came to your birthday last year
38:32and i actually tripped on the sidewalk
38:35i fell on my face like in front of paparazzi that were outside
38:42i was dealing with side effects and stuff
38:44but when you introduced me to everyone you said
38:48guys this is jesslyn we sing together
38:51i said that's a way to put it
38:58i don't know exactly what it is
39:01no one no one says that
39:04and i think that's it just says something about who you are
39:09and how humble you are
39:11and how you like to shed light on people
39:15and like make them feel bigger than they think they are
39:19and in that moment i needed that
39:22it's never a me it's always a we
39:26and i think that it just makes me feel like
39:29like we are the only we that will ever be on the biggest fucking tour in the world
39:34now i'm ready
39:47but i think i figured i'm ready to be on the way
44:33I'm very well aware of mysterious forces at play that I will never have any control
44:50of.
45:26But sometimes there's something that happens that's amazing.
45:33That's not something you can plan for and not something that you can manufacture.
45:40You know, it's like...
45:48You know, it's like...
45:50There's still got to be some magical, beautiful mystery to life.
45:57You know, it's like...
46:05You know, it's like...
46:35You know, it's like...
47:05You know, it's like...
47:35It's like...
47:44Till you think you know, it's like...
