00:00Sewing, and I'm not the kind of well-adjusted person who might take up sewing as a hobby.
00:05So this may unravel faster than a hen without a backstitch, but let's find out.
00:10Are you all right, Patrick?
00:12I have a terrible feeling.
00:14About what?
00:15Like, we've forgotten something.
00:17I don't think so, we've taken care of everything.
00:20We've forgotten.
00:22It is me!
00:26Welcome to the Sewing Bee Christmas Special.
00:30Four celebrities have arrived at Sewing Bee's HQ in Leeds.
00:35One, two, three.
00:37Aiming for top marks in fashion.
00:40I think you'll find Craig will want that back rather soon.
00:42Well, he's not having it.
00:44They're undertaking three challenges.
00:46A Christmas present sack.
00:48Cheers!
00:49Fun fancy dress.
00:52I'm absolutely quackers.
00:54And outfits inspired by their favourite seasonal treat.
00:58So dessert's for the eyes.
00:59Who will get their groove on?
01:01All the jelly goes.
01:02All the jelly goes.
01:03Oh!
01:04And who's slip-up?
01:06Disaster.
01:06Snaps.
01:07Will end up a fashion flop.
01:09Do you like it?
01:10I think you've definitely got the edgy number.
01:13Christmas has landed in our sewing room.
01:37Joining us for some festive fun are professional dancer and Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Debeck.
01:45I love Christmas.
01:47I wish I was one of those people who would start buying presents in June.
01:51But I'm not.
01:53I start buying presents on the 23rd of December.
01:56It's not Christmas unless you're running around with your hair on fire.
01:59Go.
01:59I haven't got any more presents.
02:02Oh, no.
02:03Now you're doing Christmas Day.
02:04Comedian Lucy Beaumont.
02:06Christmas Day, there's usually some sort of argument.
02:10But nothing too major.
02:12It calms everybody down.
02:13We do that.
02:14Oh, my God.
02:23Actor and writer Susan Wakoma.
02:25Christmas gives a point to it being cold.
02:28I love big cold.
02:29And gladiator Tom Wilson, a.k.a. Hammer.
02:40I want to show people gladiators can sew.
02:43From jewel to the sewing machine, I can do it.
02:51Merry Christmas, one and all.
02:54Celebrity sewers, please come forward.
02:56So, I'm your host, Sophie.
03:04I'm pregnant.
03:04I'm practically the Virgin Mary.
03:06Without the barn, the donkey, or the virginity.
03:09Let's be honest.
03:10Yeah.
03:11Are you ready?
03:12I'm ready.
03:13So ready.
03:14It's that time of year.
03:16You're going to make some terrible life choices at the Christmas office party.
03:20You will, I think.
03:21I've got my eye on you.
03:22Yes, I will.
03:23I can tell.
03:24Yeah, you're wild, I know.
03:25But until then, we're going to sew.
03:28Esme, what are we doing first?
03:30Right, here we go.
03:31Pass them round.
03:33Thank you very much.
03:34Oh, okay.
03:41With a drawstring closure and a lining.
03:45Lining?
03:46Yeah.
03:46Is it absolutely necessary?
03:47Yes.
03:48Just checking.
03:49Cheating already?
03:51You'll find loads of coloured fabric in the haberdashery and there's festive embellishments
03:56on the cutting table with which to Christmasify your sacks.
04:01Because we know that Christmas is not all about presents.
04:04It's about the fabulous sacks that they come in.
04:07So, are you ready to pimp your sacks?
04:09Oh, I'm ready.
04:10Are you ready, Anton?
04:11Yes.
04:12Fabulous.
04:13Okay.
04:14Right.
04:14You've got two hours.
04:16Your time starts now.
04:18Now.
04:19Here we go.
04:19As time is of the essence, the celebrities need to think fast as well as festive when choosing
04:25both their fabric...
04:26It is a bit you lads.
04:29..and their decorations.
04:31That one.
04:33The leopard print.
04:34I'm very traditional.
04:35So, I love this.
04:37This is Christmas.
04:37And if my children were to wake up with a Christmas sack like this at the end of their bed, they'd
04:41be delighted.
04:44So, what have they got to do then?
04:47We've asked them to make a Christmas present sack.
04:50Think how many presents will go in this bag.
04:54So, do you think the bigger the better than Esme?
04:56Yes.
04:57Fabulous.
04:57We could almost fit Esme in this sack.
04:59I was thinking that.
05:00That would be the best present, wouldn't it?
05:02So, a bottle of sherry and Esme pops out.
05:04Yeah.
05:05So, what are all the elements that they have to do?
05:07Well, you've got the outside of the bag, you've got a lining, and then you've got cords.
05:15They might not choose the easiest fabric.
05:17They might go for something sparkly and fun-looking, which would be tricky to sew.
05:20And you've got decoration.
05:22It's important you express yourself.
05:26You express yourself through your sack.
05:32My job as a gladiator is being up there, knocking people down.
05:36It's pretty heavy-handed.
05:37So, pinning fabric is a challenge.
05:40I've never made a sack before, but I've made an oven glove.
05:45They're quite different, actually.
05:48Last time I went on the cemetery was about 35 years ago.
05:51We used to make our own costumes.
05:53Basically, love this.
05:55All righty.
05:56Come on!
05:57The Christmas present sack is made from four pattern pieces.
06:03First, the top band pieces are stitched to the top and bottom edges of the main panel.
06:08Then it's time to decorate.
06:11Next, the lining is attached to each top band piece, creating a big loop.
06:16A gap is left in one of the seams for turning out later.
06:21Then the sides are sewn, leaving a gap for the cord.
06:25The sack is then turned right side out, and the opening is stitched closed.
06:30Good morning.
06:31Morning.
06:32Cracking on.
06:33You've got a plan for embellishing it?
06:35Yes.
06:35So, every Christmas, I spend it in Lancaster with friends of mine.
06:39And we drink martinis.
06:40So, that is what's going to be the embellishment on the front.
06:43Ooh.
06:44Yeah.
06:45She is certainly keen on a Christmas martini.
06:47Have you done any of this sort of stuff before?
06:49None at all.
06:50That's brave of you to come on.
06:52Well, doubly brave, because you've chosen a slippery sequin fabric, which is really hard to sew.
06:56It is really hard to sew, you're right.
06:58That seems like madness.
07:00Madness.
07:00Well, I've made something for madness.
07:03Yeah.
07:05It sucks.
07:09Just name drop.
07:10What's Christmas if it's not a massive, clanging name drop?
07:14Clang!
07:16While Susan's gambling on sophisticated sequins...
07:18Hello.
07:20This looks good.
07:21I like leopard print.
07:23Lucy's gone for something saucy.
07:25Well, I'm going to tell a story, because my mum used to have a nightdress like that.
07:29It's meant to be, you know, when Mummy kisses Santa Claus, that song, like, a take on that.
07:34I show Mummy kisses...
07:37The inside of it is meant to be Father Christmas.
07:42So it's a bit like your mum sleeping with Santa in the 90s.
07:46I'm very sorry.
07:47Good luck.
07:49Oh, thank you, sir.
07:50Fabulous.
07:52Slibering up to sew.
07:55Right sides.
07:56Ah!
07:58Right sides together.
07:59Stitch the top band.
08:00I'm absolutely terrified.
08:01My first step.
08:04Oh, this is exciting.
08:06The first job is to sew the top band to the main fabric.
08:09That's so cool.
08:11A gladiator on a sewing machine.
08:13This is just where it's meant to be.
08:14But the celebrities will have to hang tough.
08:17Ooh!
08:18As even delicate sewing has its own dangerous obstacles.
08:23Pins get in the way, don't they?
08:25They're moving with me.
08:27I feel like I'm on Coronation Street, you know, that factory.
08:31While this isn't a soap, there's certainly room for slip-ups.
08:35Devil of the sequins.
08:36Ooh, God, that's slipped out underneath.
08:38Especially with Susan's slippery fabric.
08:41The sequins are odd.
08:44As my and Patrick weren't lying.
08:45Hello, Anton.
08:46How are we doing?
08:48You look very studious.
08:50I have to tell you, I'm terribly excited.
08:52My children will love this.
08:54How many kids have you got?
08:55Two.
08:55I've got a boy and a girl.
08:56Eight now, which makes Christmas even more fabulous.
08:59That is fun, isn't it?
09:00Do you dress up as Santa?
09:01Yeah, there's a photograph of me being Santa Claus.
09:03Right, very thin, athletic Santa, aren't you?
09:05Well, I try to.
09:06Actually, I am also quite good at moving.
09:10I can do a twerk.
09:11Can you now?
09:12But I'd like to learn some ballroom.
09:14Would you?
09:15Yeah.
09:15You go back with your left foot.
09:17So you go back, side, together, forward, side, together.
09:22I feel amazing.
09:23Back, so you feel like a swan.
09:24You do feel amazing.
09:27Shall I quickly show you the twerk?
09:28Yeah.
09:29The best thing to do, Anton, imagine you're getting electrocuted.
09:32Let me give that a thought.
09:34Hang on.
09:34And it's like it's coming at you.
09:36Right.
09:36And his legs are shaking.
09:38And you're trying to get away, but you just can't.
09:41You're just searching.
09:42Okay.
09:43And then all the jelly goes.
09:44All the jelly goes.
09:46And that's it.
09:47Yeah.
09:48Yeah.
09:48Yeah.
09:49Ah.
09:51See you for Christmas party.
09:52All right-o.
09:53Let's make some mistakes.
09:54Just like the wise men, you've got a long journey ahead and no sat-nav.
10:05You're halfway there.
10:07Oh, my God.
10:08We're looking good.
10:09You've done this before, haven't you?
10:10No, I've not.
10:11Yeah, you have.
10:12Having attached their top bands, it's time for our novice sewing stars to stitch on their decorations.
10:19Sorry, did I say stitch?
10:20I mean, I am.
10:22Martini glass.
10:31Absolute eejit.
10:33I'm going for traditional Christmas design for my new nephew.
10:36My sister's had a lovely boy called Grayson.
10:39Well, I know Grayson Perry.
10:41Oh, do you?
10:42More name-dropping.
10:43Yeah, name-dropping there.
10:46I'm going to sew tinsel.
10:48So this is going to be the martini liquid.
10:50Oh, it's too fast.
10:52Watch you.
10:52Foot thing.
10:53That's the technical term, the foot thing.
10:55A pedal.
10:56I feel like I'm in a band when I do that.
10:58While Susan pushes herself in the name of glamour...
11:01Hello.
11:02Hello, hello.
11:03Lucy's saucy leopard print design is ready for a sneak preview.
11:08Do you like what I'm doing?
11:09Personally, I'm not sure that just a leopard print sack, that just, ma'am, screams Christmas.
11:17It's meant to be.
11:17You know that song, I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus?
11:20Oh, yeah.
11:21But feels like he's gone a bit seedy.
11:26Wise men, how are you doing?
11:28Tired?
11:29Confused?
11:30Following a light in the sky that you hope is a weather spoon?
11:34You've got 30 minutes left.
11:38Currently sewing the lining.
11:40It's inside out.
11:41With the lining attached to the sack inside out, there's one important step for the sewers
11:46to remember.
11:47And you must leave a gap in the seam.
11:49The gap enables the sack to be turned the right way.
11:53Oh, I've made a bit of her boo-boo.
11:55This is closed.
11:56But Lucy has sewn us together.
11:59It's all going on here.
12:01I'm going to unpick it.
12:03I'm about to pull this through.
12:05Yes.
12:05It looks a bit like when you get stuck with a duvet.
12:08While the other celebrities turn their sacks the right way...
12:11Can she do it?
12:12Will she do it?
12:14She's doing it.
12:15Brilliant.
12:17Lucy's left looking for an opening.
12:20Charlie.
12:22There's the technology to not have to do this.
12:24The need to invent a machine for unpicking.
12:26Tom, this is quite a sight, I have to say.
12:30Seeing a gladiator intricately sewing a pattern.
12:34So is this a hammer here?
12:35This is a hammer.
12:36This is to remind myself who I am.
12:38How tall are you?
12:39Six foot six.
12:40How tall are you?
12:40Five foot three.
12:41Let me stand up.
12:42Hey, my bum just fits completely just above yours.
12:44Oh, God, yeah.
12:45No, it's really comfortable.
12:46I know.
12:46It's really comfortable.
12:47Can you just follow me around like this?
12:48I'll just stay here.
12:49It's fabulous.
12:49I finished unpicking.
12:52I might just have a break.
12:54I love it.
12:55I've been...
12:56I feel like we've been here years.
12:58Hurry up, wise men.
12:59The baby's crowning.
13:00We've got 15 minutes.
13:02I'm trying to pull the drawstring through and it's getting constantly caught.
13:08The cord needs to be threaded through the narrow channels.
13:11Last time I pulled the cord through, it was my children's swim costumes.
13:15It actually wrecked my wife's swimming costume.
13:18We're nearly there.
13:20I think I can do this.
13:21But Lucy's still battling with her bag.
13:24If I finish it...
13:25It's going to be a miracle.
13:28Right, we've got 10 minutes.
13:30Oh, my gosh.
13:31Now I'm going to tart it up.
13:33How about bells?
13:37Esme, I'm deciding me.
13:38Lovely big bow.
13:39You know.
13:40You know it.
13:41How much time have we got left?
13:44One minute left.
13:47Terrifying.
13:48Keep it up.
13:48Fosse, fosse.
13:49Ooh, ooh, ooh.
13:50Fosse, fosse.
13:51Come on, come on, come on.
13:52Jazz hands.
13:53Jazz hands.
13:54So, so, so.
13:55Piece of the resistance.
13:56But...
13:58Put some bells on.
13:59I hear bells.
14:00Perfect.
14:01Oh.
14:02It's just awful.
14:05Needles on the sewers.
14:07It may be the most wonderful time of the year,
14:09but your time is up.
14:12Wow.
14:13I could actually do one of them martinis, Susie.
14:15I know, right?
14:16The candle was homemade.
14:17Wow.
14:18Deep arts and crafts.
14:19That's great.
14:19And you've got bells on it.
14:21I like bells.
14:22That's really cool, isn't it?
14:23I said it a bit messy,
14:25but it's an actual sack.
14:28You can't be sure that he's coming around
14:31With presents in his sack
14:33Four Christmas sacks
14:37packed full of presents
14:39Made in just two hours.
14:42Look at you, sparkly lot.
14:44You look like a fabulous festive bunch of burglars.
14:48So, what do you think?
14:49Brilliant.
14:49All of them, brilliant.
14:51Bags of festive goodness.
14:53Mmm.
14:54It's a bad joke.
14:55Yes, I get it.
14:55That was good, Dad.
14:56Yeah, thanks.
14:56Fast.
14:57Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way
15:03Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh.
15:08Dingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way.
15:14Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh.
15:20Hey.
15:21Hey.
15:22I think the candle's great.
15:24You've got little berries.
15:25I love the colours.
15:27Oh, and it's a red lining.
15:29That works really well.
15:30If I'm being nitpicky, slightly misaligned at the side.
15:33A little step, but put your draw chords.
15:37Those work.
15:37You hold it and tug.
15:38Hold and tug.
15:39Hold and tug.
15:40That's the way with this sack.
15:42Right, excellent.
15:43Thank you very much.
15:45Oh, I feel a bit emotional.
15:47I've had such a bad experience with judges over the years.
15:51Let it down once, let it down twice
15:54But everyone knows it's just the rivers and flows
15:59Pretty good.
16:04Are you pleased?
16:04Yeah, very pleased.
16:05We've got a Christmas message, which is to your new nephew, Grayson.
16:10Draw chords are in.
16:11Yep.
16:12The only thing I don't like is gold decorations.
16:16Don't go with white.
16:18But obviously trying to curry favour with this judge
16:21With a massive bow.
16:23And it's plump.
16:24How do you have time to make bows?
16:26That's the difference between gladiators and strictly dancers.
16:30They have time to make bows.
16:33Thank God I'm no longer a dance.
16:36Everybody there was drinking martinis with me
16:38Everybody there was drinking martinis with me
16:43Well, cheers, Susan and your martini.
16:48I think it's a lovely idea.
16:49I like the fabric and it's great that you sewed these sparkly bits.
16:54But the martini glasses disappear a little.
16:57Yeah, it does.
16:57I think you needed a bit more contrast.
17:00If they'd been a different colour, they might have leapt out a little bit more.
17:03It's interesting that you use sequins because they come unravelled.
17:07Yeah.
17:08This stuff is really difficult to sew.
17:10There's a couple of little raw bits.
17:12Also gold brocade phrase.
17:14But I think it's a really good effort.
17:16Mega festive.
17:17Bravo.
17:28Underneath the mistletoe last night
17:32Well, it's a murkier Christmas tale.
17:37A bit of Christmas sleaze under the mistletoe.
17:40Yeah.
17:41My mother.
17:42I was hoping for a bit more than just, ma'am.
17:46I mean, there isn't Santa Claus.
17:47He's the toweling.
17:48Santa's the toweling.
17:50So it's a story we need to unpack with a bit more thought.
17:53Slowly.
17:54I'm not sure about this fabric.
17:56Why?
17:57Because it's brown.
17:59And it's not very Christmassy.
18:01Christmas puddings are brown.
18:02Well, we could throw a bit of brandy over it and set fire to it.
18:06LAUGHTER
18:07Seems a little harsh.
18:11It's a little bit untidy.
18:14Got these little raw bits.
18:15Oh, God.
18:16It's had a hard life.
18:18How come you didn't sew this in?
18:22Oh, you don't know.
18:23I think I was eating a toffee crisp at the time, if I'm honest.
18:27When do we set fire to it?
18:31The judges will now rank the Christmas sacks from fourth to first place.
18:36Fourth place, we have Lucy.
18:40It's a little untidy.
18:43And I don't like brown.
18:45I wish she had told you before.
18:47In third place is Susan.
18:50The martini glasses disappear.
18:53Oh, OK.
18:54In second place...
18:56Tom.
18:59Nothing much to choose between them.
19:01You can be really, really proud of it.
19:03It's brilliant.
19:03Thank you very much.
19:04In first place is Anton.
19:09It's fabulous.
19:10I love the candles and all the bells.
19:14Thank you very much.
19:15So you can bob off now, enjoy yourselves, relax and chill,
19:18and you come back for the transformation challenge.
19:21Off you go.
19:23Shall we have an eggnog?
19:24No, I want a brandy.
19:25Brandy?
19:26Well done, yous.
19:28Good.
19:30We wish you a Merry Christmas.
19:32We wish you a Merry Christmas.
19:34We wish you a Merry Christmas.
19:36And I'll be here, sir.
19:39Woo-hoo!
19:41What's green, covered in tinsel,
19:44and goes ribbit, ribbit, mistleturd?
19:46Missile turd?
19:48Yeah.
19:49Missile...
19:50Toad.
19:51Oh, Missile Toad!
19:53It all went swimmingly, I have to say.
19:55I mean, this is my...
19:56This is the best Christmas I've ever had.
19:59Who knew bells would have such an effect?
20:02You know, Anton's got his crepe.
20:10Esme said she wanted to burn it.
20:12She doesn't like brown.
20:14But they did acknowledge that it was a sack.
20:18I'm actually really excited by the Transformation Challenge
20:21because, like, what's it going to be? You've got no idea.
20:23Like, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it,
20:25which is basically how I approach life.
20:31That bridge has arrived sooner than Susan thinks.
20:34Patrick and Esme are about to get the party started.
20:38Welcome back, sewers.
20:40It's now time for the Transformation Challenge,
20:43which is where you take something old, unloved and a bit knackered,
20:47and you zhuzh it up a bit.
20:48A bit like I've tried to do with my feet.
20:50They still look like hocks of ham,
20:52but now they look like hocks of ham, you might win in a raffle.
20:55Which is lovely.
20:57So, Patrick, what are you asking them to transform this week?
21:00On this day of Christmas, we judges give to thee...
21:07Party where...
21:11Inspired by the 12 days of Christmas,
21:13we would like you to make a fancy dress outfit for a child.
21:18Think swans, milking maids, geese, leaping lords, etc.
21:23Right.
21:24When we look at them, we must know what verse you did.
21:29And we want to smile immediately.
21:31Alright, okay.
21:32Now, the judges aren't allowed to be here for this.
21:35They're going to go out, probably eat some chocolates
21:37and put the wrappers back in the tin.
21:39Off you, Pop.
21:41Now the adults have gone, you've got an hour and a half.
21:44Off you go.
21:46Right.
21:49That is cool.
21:50I think I've actually worn that.
21:52With 12 possible characters to choose from,
21:55our celebrities need to be decisive.
21:57Do you know what colour swans legs are?
21:59Let me think about the last one I shaved.
22:02If they're to transform their chosen garments in time...
22:06What's it doing?
22:07Piece of laying, swans of swimming.
22:09This is a swan.
22:10What I'm thinking...
22:12I might just put this on the mannequin and call it a lady dancing.
22:15I don't know all the 12 Days of Christmas.
22:16I was the kid who was quiet and then shouted,
22:20FIVE GOLD RINGS!
22:25So, party wear into a fancy dress outfit inspired by the 12 Days of Christmas.
22:31They could be quite literal.
22:32It could be a swan or a hen or a drummer,
22:35but it could be something a little more tangential,
22:38as long as we can link it.
22:40There are lots of birds involved.
22:42There's lots of feathery fabrics and that lends itself, obviously,
22:45to our feathered friends.
22:47We have cut them a bit of slack because we've given them these base outfits
22:51that they can use as a kind of structure to build their fancy dress outfit around.
22:56There's also wadding they can use, so they could make something 3D.
23:01Right, I'm off to see what my true love has given to me.
23:04I'm your true love.
23:10Oh, no, that's tall, isn't it?
23:12I need lots of padding, you know, to go in it, like, filling.
23:15Yeah.
23:16What I'm doing, three French hens.
23:18We've got, er, kind of, like, gibbly bits.
23:21Awful.
23:22Er, we've got, like, a bit of red.
23:24We've got a little bit of this.
23:26We're gonna rustle feathers.
23:27That's what we're gonna do.
23:28Oh, there's feathers everywhere.
23:29Tom!
23:30How are you?
23:31I'm covered in feathers, but that should be a good sign to what I'm doing.
23:34Seven swans are swimming.
23:36Do you like the...
23:37The swans beak I'm gonna go for?
23:39What else is going on, then?
23:40Have you got eyes?
23:41I had not thought about eyes.
23:43I'm guessing the child will have eyes.
23:46Yeah, because they bring their own eyes.
23:48So, I've got a goose here.
23:50I'm doing Gisa Lane.
23:52Can't you tell?
23:53Can't you tell?
23:55Wah!
23:56Wah!
23:57I'm absolutely quackers.
24:00While most celebrities choose to make beautiful birds...
24:03Don't fight the sparkle.
24:06Lucy's choice.
24:07What are you making?
24:08Er, udders.
24:09Udders?
24:10You know, the maids milking.
24:11It's a little more niche.
24:13Have you done an udder before?
24:15This is my first udder, Sophie.
24:17Right.
24:18That's quite a good udder, isn't it?
24:19Do you think?
24:20Yeah.
24:21Well, it's gonna be a cow.
24:22Are you confident you'll know this is a cow?
24:24I mean, it's not a giraffe, is it?
24:27You know your animals.
24:28I know.
24:29So far, I've done a bit of stitching on...
24:32...the washing machine.
24:34What did I say?
24:35Washing machine?
24:36Sewing machine.
24:37That's about fits on my arm, to be really honest with you.
24:39How's Matt? Swan?
24:43Do I hear the word swan from over the other side of the room?
24:46I've got bird competition.
24:48Anyway.
24:49I'm creating wings.
24:51Rick.
24:52Hello, dear.
24:53I'm just checking out what you're doing.
24:55I'm just trying to get a few tips.
24:56Since you did win the first one, I need to know what.
24:59Well...
25:00You are...
25:01Yeah, but we've moved on from sacks.
25:03So I'm...
25:04I'm back where I start.
25:07Sewers, you're halfway through.
25:09I've just sewed this with a slight opening.
25:13Gonna just stuff with filling.
25:16While it's traditional to stuff birds at Christmas...
25:19If this doesn't say bird, I don't know what does.
25:21Lucy's udders are having an identity crisis.
25:24I am worried that this looks like a turkey.
25:29And she's not the only one getting muddled.
25:32We're gonna be putting this tartan hood on my French hen.
25:37Susan's French hen has become a Scot.
25:40I probably should have picked something less Scottish.
25:43But it's cool.
25:44Hello.
25:45It looks fabulous.
25:46I think I might like this for the baby.
25:48Really?
25:49I might take it home with me.
25:50If it all goes really bad, you sort of have to lie.
25:53Yeah.
25:54You'll just know because I won't pick it up at the end.
25:56You bet.
25:59I'm just attaching patches in the udder to the cow.
26:02Look at that.
26:03Eh.
26:04Wow.
26:05My daughter would never let me make her a dress like this.
26:10I've just seen Lucy's...
26:14Is that a swan?
26:15That could be a swan.
26:16No.
26:17Milking things.
26:18Nice.
26:19Excellent.
26:20Cows are milking.
26:21Ooh.
26:22Hello, cheeky lady.
26:24Do you like it?
26:25Interesting.
26:26Very avant-garde.
26:27Do you think?
26:28Yeah.
26:29You've definitely got the edgy number.
26:31Right, so it's 15 minutes.
26:33Stress, stress, stress.
26:34All the celebrities are rushing to add familiar features.
26:37Might make an egg.
26:38Geese are laying.
26:39And Lucy's milking it.
26:40Do you live life dangerously?
26:41I would like to make udders for the head as well.
26:44I'm only going to need about 10 minutes and then I'm just going to cry in the toilet.
26:46Like Christmas Day, really.
26:47For Susan.
26:48Bugger.
26:49Christmas is already bar humbug.
26:50I've sewed strips of embellishment over the beak.
26:51I'm hiding the end of the beak, which I really wasn't meant to do.
26:55So I've got to unpick it, which is really annoying.
26:56Well, I'm having a lovely time.
26:57I'm making a golden egg.
26:58A five, six, seven and a one.
26:59Anton, too much fossing.
27:00I said, lie.
27:01Oh my God.
27:02I'm attempting to so the swan's feet.
27:05A five, six, seven and a one.
27:07Anton, too much fossing.
27:09I said, lie.
27:10Go ahead.
27:11Oh my God.
27:12I'm attempting to sew the swan's feet.
27:13I'm glancing andge, just glancing, glancing, glancing, glancing, glancing.
27:15well I'm having a lovely time making a golden egg a five six seven and a one
27:21Anton too much fossing I said lie oh my god I'm attempting to sew the swan's
27:30feet and that is a swan's foot I put some leggings on the head and now I'm
27:35stitching the udders with no one else dressed like this you know they've got
27:39um so this again five minutes come on oh god no should we hang the egg in the
27:46bottom I love the feet that competitive gladiator I've got it in there come on
27:53that's a bit worried I ruin it one minute you're running in it's stuck no
28:00childhood wanna wear this shove the eyes on celebrity sewers needles up I did it
28:07guys they bother as the Scots say it's like Beyonce if she was a hen imagine
28:14going out of the house dressed like this
28:21mama's got piles please bring your mannequins forward got a lot of birds
28:26going on my Lucy fantastic
28:34genius oh I know who my winners
28:40a collection of party clothes transformed into outfits that celebrate the song the 12 days of Christmas
28:53judges you can take a break from wrapping my fabulous presents come and have a look
28:59Esme and Patrick having a clue whose outfits whose well that's quite a lot of birds oh la la
29:06yes somebody's geese have been a lay-in
29:08on the third day of Christmas my true luck gave to me three French hens two turtle doves
29:13and an arcade in a bear please what do you think this is well I mean it is very clearly a bird yes
29:22which of our birds is it is it it's not a French hen because it's got a tartan hat on although the
29:28French did like the Scots yes well maybe it's got bird yeah I don't remember that one from the
29:35rhyme it's not the swan it's not a geese is it a calling bird I don't know but I tell you what
29:42this hat is brilliantly engineered look how great the fit on that hat is the feathered dress has been
29:51used to perfection I mean it does look like something you'd wear to a party doesn't it yeah I mean there's
29:58hints of pipers because they're Scottish is it a bird is it a piper or is it a plane
30:14this to me is a swan yes size orange beak it's great how this orange matches this I love the way
30:22that they've used felt just to cut out bright orange feet this party dress has given us all
30:28the white feathers that we need yes it's really wearable I think it's a great fancy dress outfit
30:34love it it's brilliant
30:35this is maids are milking isn't it this is the cow that the maids who are milking yes are milking what
30:51do you think these are the nipples I think they call them udders but we can go with nipples I think
30:57this is very amusing I'm a maid milking it she can't resist I think the use of the fabrics here
31:07is brilliant we've just got a couple the little horns if they are horns the udders I just think are
31:19brilliant I mean this looks like a pair of leggings that have been somewhat crudely manipulated yes I've
31:26rarely been more amused by anything I've seen in this room that's the sound effect you need to make
31:33whilst wandering around in this costume but I'm not going to wear it your loss I'll be wearing it
31:39anyway this is another part which bird begins with a G and rhymes with moose this correct that's what I
31:56think it is anyway again I think it's brilliant use of the feathery party frock the beak the eyes you
32:02get a lot of storytelling there any eggs you can see no what about the egg at the back about this egg
32:10what did you think that was I didn't see it doing a golden poo for Christmas yes it is laying a golden
32:17Christmas egg I think there's some really lovely details in this it's great pass off to all of you
32:24this is an absolute Christmas cracker I don't think we've seen transformations this good in a long while
32:29Esme and Patrick will now rank the festive outfits whose will be gifted victory and whose goose is cooked in fourth place
32:41it's that one with the tartan well that's Susie's we really liked it but we didn't know what it was it's a French hen but the tartan threw you a little beret and maybe a string of onions or like carrying a baguette anything French really
32:59Merci in third place is our swan a swimming Tom I mean that is seriously impressive loved it it's just amongst a menagerie of other brilliance in second place is
33:16oh that's Lucy's oh my god I can't believe it did so well it's mad and that's why we liked it I just knew how to make udders
33:28sometimes you find your calling in life well done Lucy which means in first place is our wonderful goose a lay-in
33:35I mean it was all a very close run thing you've created this wonderful shape but the crowning glory
33:46is its little egg what a day what a day I could rarely have ever dreamt of yes one again sounds
33:54too grand isn't it I just came out on top I couldn't believe that I came second don't think I deserved it
34:00from a technical point of view from a novelty point of view yeah I wipe the floor with everybody a bit
34:07disappointing I came third but to be fair just look at that lineup they were just all fantastic every time
34:13I hear three French hens I'm gonna start wildly screaming or I don't know speaking in a Scottish accent
34:20it's a new day and the celebrities must now make garments to fit a model
34:37nice to meet you how are you it's nice to see you whoever shines in this final challenge could walk away with the
34:45Christmas sewing bee trophy in my head it looks great but whether that actually happens I have no idea
34:52hurry down the chimney tonight welcome back celebrity sewers and hello to our fabulous festive models
35:01so today's made to measure challenge the judges would like you to create an outfit based on your
35:08favorite Christmas treat mine would be a hot man wrapped in bacon you've got four hours and your time starts now
35:18put your arms up for me if you hold it on your waist put it all the way to the ground I love food at
35:26Christmas I cook it's my job I'll do the ham because you know I mean it's hammer like a soggy Brussels
35:34sprout but I feel like Christmas is the time where I'm allowed to and no one's going yeah so tell me why
35:43did you pick this challenge we all love a Christmas treat true we've given them complete free reign they
35:48could dress their model up as a Christmas put you know something that's literal yeah or it could just
35:53be something that takes inspiration from their Christmas treat we just want to be able to follow that
35:58story but they probably never done fitting on the body right that's going to be difficult that's me
36:06what would be your Christmas treat sherry mmm it's quite sweet just like you as me sweet and alcoholic yeah
36:16oh the fabrics move late it right let's go good morning morning what is your treat something that I
36:29know it's going to be in abundance in my house at Christmas which is champagne right champagne I wanted
36:36to incorporate old boring dresses something a little old school lovely structured bodice will
36:41mimic the rim of the champagne flute the front is going to sit out and also I love all this stuff
36:46so we're going to use this in the glass as though it's champagne wow it's ambitious but I think if you
36:52pull it off it'll be a knockout hopefully cheers cheers nice well Anton plans to toast his victory Tom's
37:02hoping success will be sweet what's your dreams gingerbread gingerbread oh you know
37:07I love gingerbread and you've got a ginger wife I've got a ginger wife you love the ginger ginger I know I mean
37:13you're my favorite of course yeah but don't try and eat me I won't have that the base of Tom's gingerbread
37:20inspired outfit will be a satin pinafore dress decorations include rickrack icing a candy stripe belt and an
37:29assortment of treats plus one final touch there's going to be a big boat to win Esme over ready as well look
37:36loves the boat yeah I think it'd suit you actually do you know what it's all yours if when it's finished
37:40yeah we'll see how good it is you'll know yeah you'll know right hilariously I need a nice pencil to make
37:49tie come on it takes something special to win the sewing bee crown and Susan sewing a design inspired by
38:01that after-dinner classic vianetta this is a ice dessert that I would have as a kid at Christmas my
38:10mum would say serve yourselves would be like stabbing it trying to get it all punchy and get to the bottom
38:14chocolate and vanilla layers I'm pleating to create the frilly chocolate the key is to not make it look
38:21garish so it's elevated yeah it's out couture chocolate couture oh while Susan indulges her sweet tooth
38:35Lucy good morning fancy something more savory I'm doing blue cheese and onions because only a cold on
38:43that's what I like to eat what time of day are you getting stuck into the blue cheese and pickled
38:47right away before the presents I just mean from December Lucy's festive cheese dress features blue
38:55overlay and pickled onion pearls with a cream cracker handbag borrowing a style from another era the dress
39:02emulates a wedge of cheese the 60s style lends itself to the shape of cheese I think the 60s and
39:09cheese go hand in hand also this is very clearly veiny cheese it's making me very peckish he's going for
39:15cheese but attaching the delicate veiny fabric is no mean feat it's stuck on a pen it's so wonky I'm
39:27going to unpick it what a shame although Lucy's cheesed off the other celebrities are ready for the
39:36first fitting how's that it's quite nice in it Anton's champagne flute is far from finished fuel this
39:45lovely fabric will sit underneath so it will kick out he's adding multiple layers well I wouldn't expect
39:52anything less than this sparkly affair I'm doing a little gathering technique what we do is you put a
39:58couple of rows of stitching in there
40:06it's Hannah my wife I do topping out and entertainment that's my role I just bring charisma and a speaker
40:12that's what I've written then
40:14yeah yeah go on thank you love that you can come round I might well might even bring the frog bring the
40:25frock for me I love that if your wife doesn't want it of course you know Hannah all right yeah
40:30sodder sod Hannah Hannah who Merry Christmas Hannah
40:33oh wow I'm so behind while Lucy races to catch up hey I'm sorry do you want a quick dance the other
40:54celebrities are kicking back at the jump as well and the big finish thank you for that a showstopper is
41:07certainly on Susan's mind couple up there I need massive volume of thrills but bigger isn't always
41:14better I'm hand sewing the decorations look at these big spades of hands it's well difficult now one
41:22lovely show buttons down the middle my needle is really getting stuck the hands are too big to
41:27get behind let me just bring it up a little bit oh that's not even working either Tom might be
41:34battling buttons but Anton has to make an entire glass of champagne but this is the paper pattern for my
41:40flute yeah he can't see how to create the curve of the glass oh god then about shape uh let me have a
41:51little thing and he's not the only one I was making a champagne flute but maybe the coop would have a bit
42:00more of a effect sorry my love I'll be with you in one second uh what do I want right thank you so I'm
42:11basically going with the coop I'm ensuring glue gun somewhere right I'm catching up so blue cheese I love
42:22blue cheese and pickled onion on a cracker
42:24celebrity sewers
42:37you've got one hour
42:41I think you'll find Craig will want that back rather soon
42:46well he's not having it
42:47hmm a little stab on the finger to join the many this is more dangerous than the gladiates Tom has
42:55really gone to town on his gingerbread creation I hope he gets it finished I'm now sewing ice cream
43:03onto my dress as we go there's more and more material so it's hard to manage since this is pretty
43:08complicated she's got all those layers she's actually still got quite a lot left to do these look like
43:14pickled onions I'm just going to use these as decoration Lucy reads well as a baby cheese and
43:20I really like the little pickled onions but it's simplest dress what Anton wouldn't give for a simple
43:27slice of cheese this is looking a bit like a shield at the moment and comes it's the most difficult it's
43:35supposed to be the flute of champagne with the froth but yeah at the moment it's looking more suit of
43:43armor it seems that somebody's eating all the chocolates I don't know who it is but what I could
43:52interest you in is 30 minutes left no I'm making a cheese cracker handbag which are gonna be all the
44:02rage everyone's gonna want one while the girls rush to accessorize headband Tom has gone rogue
44:10ditching his needle and fixing decorations with glue and some heavy metal this is great work of an iron
44:18but Tom's not the only gladiator in the arena this is still too shieldy Anton's model should fit in a
44:35champagne reception not ancient room maybe the sequence could work oh no it's still too much of
44:43this I think it looks like Richard of Lionheart right just need glue oh wow the gladiator's nearly done
44:50she knows my gladiator name the spike the spike how about if we put some of this on the outside
44:58it's like Chanel let's try and glue the back of that oh disaster snapped I need to put this back
45:08together how much time has we got five minutes cheeky geese literally do you know what I mean oh no
45:16if it falls down I'm gonna run out of time one two come on I'm going to sir handle that oh god that's stuck
45:24how long left one minute my naughty little puddings panicking stress oh no this pin is gonna go through this
45:32buckle oh god this could take forever finish a nightmare let's see it needles up sewers it's time for the catwalk
45:44you don't think you're enough that's cool it's actually really cool this is Christmas yes Ben
45:51oh
45:53fashion
45:54ooh ooh ooh fashion ooh ooh ooh fashion ooh ooh ooh ooh
45:59well I wish it could be Christmas every day
46:08work work work
46:10when the kids start singing and the band begins to rain
46:15ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh beautiful
46:18I wish it could be Christmas every day
46:22yes
46:23big hammer, big hammer
46:32wow
46:34loves a bow
46:35got bow envy
46:37it's an absolute triumph
46:44Absolute triumph. I mean, it really, really leaps out at me
46:49that this is decorated gingerbread.
46:51It's got very strong Hansel and Gretel vibes.
46:54You've managed to pull off this amazing feat
46:57of making something that could feel quite novelty
47:00actually feel really fun and chic to wear.
47:02One thing, I just wish you'd put this icing right over the edge.
47:06You've got half straight, half curve, half straight.
47:09And also, did you sew these decorations?
47:12Mm-hm. Or did you iron them on?
47:15Stitch some, iron some.
47:16What did you stitch? Well, I'll look.
47:21There's ironed. There's ironed. There's ironed.
47:25There's ironed. I think they're all ironed.
47:29But I do think it looks like a gingerbread.
47:33And you've got a bow.
47:35Do you like it? Yeah, I do. It's great.
47:38Thanks so much.
47:38Delicious!
47:41Running wild in the city late at night
47:45Delicious!
47:49Have the pink, don't you think we're out of style?
47:53Feels so right
47:54에는
47:58Eltern
48:00Well, I love the idea of doing cheese.
48:03Yeah
48:04I like your pickled onions
48:07And I love this fabric
48:09It's lovely, isn't it?
48:10But it's puckering, because this yellow underneath is longer than the top layer.
48:16It is a simple dress, but the storytelling is absolutely bang on.
48:21It's a literal cracker. It's very distinctly 60s.
48:24The pearl is reflected in the little pearl in the chain in the handle.
48:28There's a brilliant label called Mother of Pearl.
48:30And Amy Powney, who was the designer, that was her sort of signature detail.
48:35She needs to watch out.
48:36She needs to watch out, because there are pickled onion silt dresses coming for her.
48:40It is a treat.
48:41Lovely, oh, thank you.
48:43I remember a time when you dressed as a lump of cheese at Christmas.
48:46Wedges of cheese.
48:47Yes, round my neck.
48:48I've still got your cheese costume.
48:50Have you?
48:51You're not having it back.
49:06I can see every part.
49:11Nothing hides in the heart to hurt me.
49:18I don't need love.
49:20This perfectly reads glass of champagne.
49:24There's a real elegance to it.
49:25You've got the frothy, what the French call the mousse, frothing over the top of the glass.
49:29I am not 100% convinced by the shape.
49:33It's really hard to make an elegant curve in one piece of material.
49:39You just didn't have the time to do that.
49:41Now, it doesn't take away at all from the fact that it's got tons of impact and tons of elegance.
49:46The fit on the dress is fantastic.
49:49And the way it moves, that net at the bottom, it's pure sort of Ginger Rogers business.
49:54Absolutely.
49:55I love the frill.
49:56It looks 3D.
49:57That reminds me of the old days, reams of netting.
50:00And we've got all this froth.
50:02You know, I drive me best.
50:04You've got glitter on everywhere.
50:06Yes, in my hands, my clothes.
50:08But I feel comfortable with the glitter.
50:10When I don't have enough glitter on, I feel naked.
50:13Well, it looks great.
50:16Let's go together.
50:17Right now.
50:18Oh yeah.
50:19In sweet harmony.
50:20Let's go together.
50:22Right now.
50:28Oh yeah.
50:32In sweet harmony.
50:35Let's go together.
50:37Right now.
50:41Oh yeah.
50:43I
50:51Instantly feel like I'm in trouble. There's one thing. I'm going to say let me know
50:56We've got this piece that's
50:59Longer than the frill. Oh gosh. Yeah, but I think it looks great. You've done a lot of work
51:06Okay, and how was it saying those on as a complete sewing novice? That was tough
51:11Well, you've handled all of these layers
51:14Amazingly and left it feeling so light and fluffy it manages to feel like very very elevated
51:21Evening wear while still being inspired by a tub of ice cream
51:26Also this headpiece it's a bit like one of those triangle wafers you get in the top of a sundae. There we go
51:30Like it's the perfect shape. I mean, it's a dessert for the eyes. It's absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much
51:38I
51:40Think that I did my dessert all the justice in the world like I looked at it and I felt hungry
51:45I really like it and I would wear it and I'm gonna I'm gonna take it home
51:50I was concerned it was looking like a big breastplate, but we've got there in the end
51:54I am Massively like a kid at Christmas. I cannot wait to find the result out
52:06Just let me know quickly because I need to know if I've won or not and if I haven't won. I still think I've won
52:14It's a lot of fabulous stuff here, isn't there? I don't think we've had so many amusing and lovely looking things
52:20I mean, we've never had others for a star
52:24It's
52:31Susan's it's
52:32Absolutely wearable to party we came into this morning
52:38With Anton having come top of the roost, you know, he won the pattern. He won the transformation today
52:45He was hugely ambitious. He handled the dress beautifully bodice piece is a little bit cumbersome
52:53Tom and Susan are top of the pile
52:55Yeah, here
52:57Having been slightly below
52:59There
53:01Which means they're dead level in my head, which makes it very difficult
53:05Celebrity so as you have been absolutely fabulous and it has been a wonderful time of year with you, but there can only be one winner
