43:30For those of you who've attended before,
43:32feel free to ignore my sob story and go straight to the bar.
43:37But for those of you who don't know it,
43:39here's the short version.
43:42My parents were both junior hockey coaches.
43:46And they were hit by a drunk driver when I was 12 years old.
43:52Mercifully for them, they died instantly.
43:55Mercifully for me,
43:57the St. Thomas Scholarships existed.
43:59I didn't have anybody else to help me.
44:05I had a lot of memories,
44:07a love of hockey,
44:08and a huge hole in my heart.
44:12St. Thomas filled it with hope.
44:15The hope of a new family.
44:18Things weren't always easy.
44:20You know, they never are for anybody.
44:22But in hockey, I found what I was missing.
44:27First at my high school,
44:29then later at college,
44:30and now here with the Admirals.
44:32And I never looked back.
44:35Because I never had to.
44:39The family I craved,
44:40the family that I needed,
44:42that I still need today.
44:46Hockey gave it to me.
44:48And St. Thomas gave me hockey.
44:50So from the bottom of my heart,
44:54I want to thank you all for being here tonight.
44:57And for supporting this cause.
44:58Because it's not just a scholarship.
