00:00Around 28 million people and only about 20 aircraft.
00:06This is what Venezuela's aviation landscape now looks like after foreign airlines halted their flights to the country.
00:14The suspensions followed U.S. security warnings and Donald Trump's announcement of closing Venezuela's airspace.
00:21According to the Wall Street Journal, Venezuela currently depends on around 20 aging commercial aircraft operated by a limited number of local airlines, forcing travelers to take longer and more expensive routes through neighboring countries.
00:38The International Air Transport Association, IATA, estimates that the number of weekly passengers traveling to and from Venezuela has dropped sharply, from around 15,000 passengers to no more than 1,000.
00:54This suffocating aviation crisis is not limited to passengers alone.
00:58It also affects the shipment of medicines and aircraft spare parts, at a time when tensions between Venezuela and the United States continue to escalate in the Caribbean.
