00:00Goodbye to the well-known visa lottery system, a program that for years governed access to the H-1B US work visa is coming to an end.
00:11The US Department of Homeland Security announced it will abolish the random lottery system and replace it with a new framework that gives priority to foreign workers with high skills and higher wages.
00:23US Citizenship and Immigration Services said the previous system had been exploited by some employers, who used it to bring in foreign labor at lower wages than those paid to American workers.
00:40Under the new system, applicants with higher qualifications will have a greater chance of receiving visas.
00:46The changes are set to take effect in February 2026, as part of a series of measures adopted by the Donald Trump administration to reshape the US work visa program.
