00:04Jeśli a city wants to be sustainable in the future,
00:06we need to solve it with mobility.
00:12As cities around the world rethink how people move,
00:15Baku is reshaping its streets, transport systems
00:18and public spaces as part of a wider push
00:21towards smarter, cleaner urban mobility.
00:24For the last few years, we've seen major urban transformation
00:28in shifting focus from car-driving city
00:32for car-oriented city to people-oriented city,
00:35dozens of new bus lanes and bike lanes.
00:39That transformation is most visible
00:41where streets and public spaces have been redesigned around people
00:44rather than cars.
00:46About a year ago, the place where we are,
00:49it was completely different.
00:51We see a big parking lot there.
00:54There was almost no pedestrian infrastructure here.
00:57That square was completely redesigned.
01:00Now, no personal cars here, no taxis,
01:03only public transport hub here.
01:05We see buses, we see a metro station,
01:08railway station here and, of course,
01:11this micro-mobility parking here.
01:13So, both scooters, electric bikes and these simple green bikes.
01:18and besides this, there's at least two or three different public spaces in Baku
01:24that change like that.
01:30On every exit of train station, you will definitely see a bike parking.
01:34I think it's your turn to try your bike there.
01:37For residents, those changes are influencing how they move, work and experience the city.
01:42The infrastructure support the riding bike, as you see from the green bike lines.
01:55And you see everyone use bikes, especially the younger ones use bikes and scooters to move around the city.
02:04For many commuters, micro-mobility has also changed how they manage their time, cost and wellbeing.
02:10My working place is near the city centre.
02:14I used to spend one hour to commute to work,
02:18but now, with the help of bike, it takes ten minutes to reach my workplace.
02:24And this is really great because it saves my time.
02:29It's budget friendly and also I feel like I contribute to the environment.
02:35While scooters and bicycles are seeing a surge in popularity here in Baku,
02:42it's the electric bus that's getting all the interest.
02:45And it's manufactured here in Azerbaijan.

02:58And my electric bus is a huge demand.
03:01And it's a huge demand at this store.
03:03It's also a huge demand for me.

03:50We know that only micromobility and pedestrian development is not enough.
03:56Our main idea was to improve public transport system in Baku
04:02and to make it more accessible for the people who don't have a car to reach out to destination.
04:11Our expectation is to improve bus system and make it much safer and environmental friendly.
04:21For instance, every year we'll add 400 new buses, special electric and CNG buses, to the bus fleet of Baku.
04:31And we believe that until 2030, most of the bus fleet of Baku will be more environmental friendly buses.
04:42And that's how we're going to run our ultimate course.
04:47With Baku set to host the World Urban Forum next year,
04:50its approach to mobility shows how transport is becoming central to building more livable and sustainable cities.
