00:00Tune in as we tune up for a very melodic escape to the country.
00:05This is a room.
00:06Perfect.
00:07I think you've nailed it.
00:08Oh!
00:09Oh!
00:10Oh!
00:11We found the ultimate medley of showstoppers.
00:18And chart toppers.
00:19I could not have shown you this.
00:21You certainly couldn't.
00:22It's really, really special.
00:24To deliver a country pad that hits all the right notes.
00:28Oh!
00:47City life can sometimes be too fortissimo.
00:51Too loud.
00:52I mean, who wants a noisy neighbour, right?
00:54The thing is, what if it's you that's the one making all the noise?
00:58Well, you do the decent thing and you escape to the country.
01:01Which is exactly what the nation's favourite choir master has asked us to help him do here in Hampshire.
01:08So, cue the fanfare and meet Gareth Malone, the maestro behind the music.
01:15Oh, that's nice.
01:20Hmm.
01:22Oh, I know.
01:23I'm Gareth Malone and I am a musician and a choir director and I'm looking to get out of town.
01:29Gareth Malone is the man who made Britain fall in love with singing.
01:35I've worked with all sorts of people.
01:37Prisoners, doctors, firefighters, people who work in supermarkets, bankers.
01:43So fun.
01:44I started the military wives' choirs.
01:47That was a thing.
01:49Indeed it was.
01:50In 2011, they bagged the Christmas number one spot.
01:54You name it, I've made a choir out of them.
01:58Awarded an OBE for his services to music, Gareth lives in a leafy North London suburb
02:04with his wife Becky, a teacher and their three children.
02:08This is my studio, which is at the end of my garden.
02:11When I built this, I went round and told all the neighbours that it was so that I wouldn't disturb them.
02:16But truth be told, it's just that they were disturbing me, but I didn't want to be rude.
02:20That's the trouble with living in London.
02:21I love living in London, it's great, but I just feel like it's so noisy.
02:29That's the inner soundtrack of my mind when I'm in London.
02:33Go to work, go to work, go to work.
02:37And I think I'm feeling a bit more...
02:42..is what I'm looking for.
02:44Whilst regular hot yoga sessions provide some solitude, Gareth is seeking more.
02:52I feel like I'm just enjoying that phase of my life where I'm not absolutely hammering it all the time.
02:58Which I really was. I'm super competitive and super driven, and I always have been since I was small.
03:03And if you're wondering where that drive comes from, meet Sian, Gareth's beloved mother.
03:14He started learning piano when he was seven. Not always happily, I have to say.
03:19Sometimes he wanted to give up, but he was encouraged, shall we say, to continue.
03:24And then started to love it and never looked back after that, really.
03:29Gareth is super close to his parents.
03:31They live in the seaside town of Bournemouth in his childhood home.
03:36Whoops.
03:38Where his very first piano still takes pride of place.
03:42It's seen better days.
03:44It has seen better days, yes.
03:46Well, it's seen you right through from age seven when you started.
03:50Yeah, this is a piano I used to make up pieces on.
03:52It is, yeah.
03:54Hours.
03:56Sian will accompany Gareth on his search for a new home in the neighbouring county of Hampshire.
04:02These are photos of us in the New Forest.
04:04In times gone by, look at your hair.
04:06Yes, it...
04:08A place that holds many fond memories for them both.
04:11Oh, that's a nice photo. You look very happy in that.
04:14This move isn't just about being closer to Mama Malone.
04:17Gareth's banking on it, delivering other small joys.
04:21I do like ironing. I'd love a little ironing room.
04:23And a boot room. I hate shoemass.
04:27And I would really like to have a big piano in the house.
04:31Like, you know, sort of eight-foot-grand, proper grown-up piano.
04:35It's kind of the first thing I think about when I walk into a room,
04:39is where would the piano go?
04:42Oh!
04:44And I'm not into ultra-modern.
04:46I really like sort of shambolic and historical and wonky.
04:51OK, that's a fairly comprehensive list of the finer details.
04:58But for an overview of the big-picture stuff, here's the lowdown.
05:01Gareth is looking for a detached character property with at least four bedrooms,
05:09a decent-sized garden and an outbuilding that can become a music studio.
05:14The house should be located in the middle or on the edge of a village
05:18and have space for a full-size grand piano.
05:23The budget? 1.2 million pounds.
05:25Gareth's search area is in Hampshire, specifically the south-west of the county,
05:39in and around the New Forest National Park.
05:41The village of Bewley gets its name from the French phrase meaning beautiful place,
05:48a description that could easily apply to any of the 37 towns and parishes within the park's boundary.
05:57Ponies, cattle, deer and pigs roam free among the ancient woodlands and open heaths.
06:0326 miles of coastline fall within the national park, with the mile-long Kelshot beach popular with watersports enthusiasts.
06:16Homebuyers in Hampshire get better value than in most of south-east England,
06:20although a detached house still costs around £621,000,
06:26about £180,000 above the UK average.
06:30Even so, that's far cheaper than Gareth's north London suburb,
06:34where detached properties typically cost more than £2 million.
06:45Gareth has already made two solid decisions.
06:47First, he's picked Hampshire, a county that delivers on that much-needed slower pace,
06:53while still having a train to London that runs on time.
06:57Second, he's bringing his mum along for the ride,
07:00and the benefits of having her join us is obvious.
07:03She knows him, and she knows him.
07:06So, of course, I took Mama Malone's advice when she suggested Exbury Gardens
07:12in the south-east corner of the New Forest as the perfect meeting point.
07:15Gareth, I should say welcome back to Hampshire. You know this area so well.
07:19I do. I feel very at home. I feel quite emotional coming back here.
07:22I came here with my mother and my grandmother in, we think it was 1986.
07:27Yeah, a long time ago. Yeah, a very long time ago, and it was beautiful then, and it's still beautiful.
07:30So apart from Mum being here, what is it about this area, this landscape, that is attracting you?
07:42I associate it with a very happy time in my life.
07:45We came to the New Forest every weekend and relaxed and went on long walks and the trees.
07:50And then you turn a corner and there's a beautiful pub or a little gem like this.
07:55Or a pony. Or a pony. Exactly.
07:57Or a donkey or a cow.
07:59You can't rush in the New Forest because there's always a pony to slow you down.
08:02I don't know, maybe it's because I'm about to be 50 that I'm thinking I wouldn't mind something slightly slower.
08:07Oh, what a great midlife crisis, if that's what you're having. Isn't it? Yeah.
08:10Oh, it's about my third. Not a crisis, just a...
08:12Just a change. An awakening. Yeah.
08:14An awakening. I like that. And a turing. Finally.
08:17Sean, are you buzzing at the thought of the grandkids?
08:21Forget Gallus. Yes. The grandkids.
08:22I am, absolutely. The idea of them being this close is just wonderful.
08:27Am I a sideshow in this? Yes, you are, definitely a sideshow, yeah.
08:30My grandchildren quite like me, I think, and I absolutely adore them,
08:33and I want to spend as much time as I possibly can with them.
08:36So, yes, I'll be on the doorstep.
08:38Do you know what you're looking for?
08:40No. I don't think I do. That's good.
08:43When we've bought houses before, it's always been just a great feel when you walk in.
08:49And you'll know, we'll know. I'll be like this. Yeah.
08:52Just feeling the vibrations. You'll feel the zen, yes, no question.
08:56OK, well, that's one way to house hunt. Should we get going? Yeah.
08:59Like a divining stick or something. Yes.
09:01I feel like you are that stick. I am that stick.
09:04Let's go. Lead the way.
09:05Every minuet counts.
09:10Our first house sits in the village of West Wellow,
09:13right on the edge of the New Forest National Park.
09:16This handsome, detached, Grade II listed property dates back to the early 1800s.
09:24After the Second World War, it served as the village schoolhouse for 40 years,
09:29before being transformed into a gorgeous family home
09:33that I hope will strike a chord with our choir master.
09:36Oh, pretty. I love this path.
09:45But what about the house?
09:48Oh, look.
09:50Oh, she spotted the folly. Trust you.
09:52A folly. A grotto. I love it. It's a folly.
09:55Made of flint.
09:56Flint folly.
09:57A flint folly.
09:58A flint folly.
09:59A flint folly.
10:00That wasn't on my wish list, but now that I've seen one...
10:03I love it.
10:04You know what?
10:05I must have a flint folly.
10:06Made a little bit of extra.
10:07That is fabulous.
10:08Never mind the house.
10:10What can one...
10:11OK, the house is so beautiful.
10:13Oh, focus.
10:14I do like the house.
10:15I love the paint.
10:16It's beautiful.
10:17I love the Victorian brickwork.
10:19Yeah.
10:20I like that it was a school.
10:21Yes.
10:22My wife's a teacher.
10:23I thought you might.
10:24That's lovely history, isn't it?
10:25Yeah, we don't need to see any more.
10:26I like this one.
10:27I do like it.
10:28It's definitely my aesthetic.
10:29Are we allowed to go inside?
10:30Shall we?
10:31Yeah, let's.
10:32Yeah, let's do it.
10:33All right.
10:34Only because you are so nicely.
10:36I thought we'd kick off with the kitchen.
10:40Oh, this is a lovely kitchen.
10:42Eat me.
10:44The floor.
10:45The floor is great.
10:46I'm sorry, I was looking at the cookies.
10:48I love this.
10:49Isn't it nice?
10:50Yes.
10:51Yes.
10:52He's checking the rails of the doors.
10:55It's exactly right for the age of the house.
10:58Tick.
11:00Boot room.
11:02Tick.
11:03That door on the outside in the garden goes into the boot room.
11:07So if you've been out for a yomp.
11:09Oh, Gareth, you wanted it.
11:11Show me the boot room.
11:12Go, go, go, go.
11:15Oh, I love this.
11:16This could be the boot room.
11:18This is the ironing room.
11:19This is everything.
11:20The laundry.
11:21The laundry.
11:22I can see you spending hours in here ironing, Gareth.
11:25I like this.
11:26This is a nice room.
11:27I feel like you love the boot room more than the kitchen.
11:29Yes.
11:30I'm quite interested to know where you eat and how much of a commute there is from the kitchen
11:34to the dining space.
11:35Gosh.
11:36He's moving out of London.
11:37Now he's talking about commutes.
11:39I...
11:40Should we go and find out?
11:42Can we time it?
11:43I've got a...
11:44What's he put...
11:45What?
11:46He's got a timer.
11:48I love it.
11:49I love it.
11:50He's got a stopwatch.
11:51Yeah.
11:52Is he always like this?
11:53Oh, yes.
11:54Well, I think that's a perfectly normal thing to bring on a house hunt because you need
11:57to know how long it takes to get from...
11:59I think our definitions of perfectly normal are different.
12:02Oh.
12:03But I appreciate that you have done this.
12:04If that's your worry, let's work through.
12:06Look, let's...
12:07I haven't got time to waste here.
12:08Okay.
12:09Okay.
12:10Let's get on with it.
12:11On your marks.
12:12Get set.
12:13Let's eat breakfast.
12:14I'm going to actually grab breakfast.
12:16Right.
12:17Follow me.
12:18Five seconds.
12:19Six.
12:20Okay.
12:21Oh, it's mild.
12:22Oh.
12:23Okay.
12:24And...
12:25That's a 12-second commute.
12:27Oh, it's sweet.
12:2812 seconds?
12:29That felt like four.
12:30It was 12 long seconds.
12:32We're going for the slower pace of life.
12:34Absolutely.
12:35This is beautiful.
12:36I'm sort of pouring the milk and then just slamming it down on the table and getting
12:40it out the door.
12:41Where are you rushing off to here in Hampshire?
12:42You're right.
12:43Well, Gareth, I try to be.
12:45How many people can you get round that table?
12:47Is this the main dining space?
12:49Yes.
12:50This is the closest room for dining.
12:51Right.
12:52I would say.
12:53That's six people.
12:54I mean, we always have five people.
12:56Always, yes.
12:57And very often six.
12:58And when we're there, it's seven.
13:00It's a great space.
13:01It's beautiful.
13:02It is a little bit small for a dining space for our family, I think.
13:05But...
13:06I do like the vibration of this room.
13:09Well, if this room is giving Gareth good vibrations, wait until he claps eyes on the
13:14others, because there are four reception rooms in total, including this gorgeous garden
13:19room and this 30-foot lounge.
13:24This is my favourite space.
13:26Oh, this is a room.
13:28This is two rooms.
13:29Let Mum in.
13:30Oh, sorry.
13:31Do come in.
13:32Oh, wow.
13:33This is great.
13:34Do you know what I'm seeing here?
13:36What?
13:37Seeing a piano.
13:39Oh.
13:40I feel like you could...
13:42You can get a grand piano.
13:43Can you?
13:44Because you're the expert.
13:45I think you could get a grand piano.
13:46You're the expert.
13:47I think so.
13:48You could definitely get a grand piano here.
13:49This is where I came prepared.
13:51What's this?
13:52This is the size of a grand piano.
13:56Oh, that's brilliant.
13:57Oh, look at that.
13:58Oh, wow.
13:59Genius.
14:00A Steinway Model B would do me nicely.
14:03It doesn't come with the house.
14:05I'm not providing you with a piano.
14:06Look, that's brilliant.
14:07Back here.
14:08Yes.
14:09It fits comfortably into the space.
14:10And that's a big...
14:11That's a proper piano.
14:12Perfect.
14:13I think you've nailed it.
14:15Houses are my forte.
14:16And this is my piano forte.
14:19Oh, very good.
14:21Touché.
14:22If downstairs is a place to be forte,
14:28upstairs is surely a place to be pianissimo.
14:32You'd certainly hear the kids coming up the stairs at night.
14:35Yes.
14:36I love the wood, actually.
14:37Wood is beautiful.
14:38Yeah, the wooden floors are lovely.
14:39What is this?
14:40It's a bit of a warren.
14:41Oh.
14:42Oh.
14:43Like a dressing room.
14:44Oh.
14:45Through the bathroom.
14:46Oh.
14:47Up the stairs.
14:48Into...
14:49Master bedroom.
14:50Main bedroom.
14:51Wow.
14:52What a beautiful room.
14:55He needs a rest already.
14:56Oh, I love a chaise lounge.
14:58It's nice.
14:59What a peaceful, restful room.
15:02Yeah.
15:03I love that really wonky old door.
15:05I'm into that.
15:07This is definitely the kind of style of house that I like.
15:10I could see myself in this bedroom.
15:13There are three further bedrooms, all doubles and all with fireplaces, served by a family bathroom with a clawfoot tub.
15:21Outside the garden extends to just over half an acre, with a couple of outbuildings that could be remastered into a music studio, along with fruit cages and raised beds.
15:34It's a very secluded feel.
15:37I mean, it's properly detached, isn't it?
15:39Mm.
15:40You can't hear anyone.
15:41Yeah.
15:42You can't disturb anyone.
15:43I really like this house.
15:46And it's just the first house we've seen.
15:48You don't need to make decisions here.
15:49I don't have to buy it.
15:50No, no.
15:51Should we find out how much it is first?
15:52Less.
15:53I'd say 1.15.
15:54So you think it's 1.15 million?
15:56I did think 900, but I'm upping it to a million.
15:59OK.
16:00Yeah, it's a million, I think.
16:01OK.
16:02You're on the nose.
16:05Yes!
16:06Literally on the nose.
16:07Yes!
16:08Wow!
16:09Well done.
16:10I'm winning.
16:11It's not a competition, Gareth.
16:12What are you talking about?
16:13Life is a competition?
16:14No, no.
16:15Not with your mother.
16:16It's not a competition.
16:17You taught me that.
16:18Life's a competition, but your mother isn't.
16:19But this is.
16:20And I won.
16:21This gorgeous family home boasts a contemporary country kitchen,
16:26four reception rooms, four bedrooms and half an acre of garden.
16:32I love it.
16:33I don't think I'm going to get it past the family.
16:36Oh, really?
16:38I think there's something about the size of the rooms.
16:40I agree, actually.
16:42I think maybe it's a bit too higgledy-piggledy for my wife.
16:45Yes.
16:46I'm not sure it's the forever house.
16:49I like it a lot.
16:50It's just not the one.
16:51It's just not the one.
16:52Next house, please.
16:53Onwards.
16:54And upwards.
16:55And upwards.
16:59It's a 20-minute drive through the New Forest to our next property.
17:03Ample time for Sian to spill the beans on Gareth.
17:10At what age did you know, Sian, that music is going to be his thing?
17:14He was very keen on entertaining as a little boy.
17:18And he was very...
17:19He was always...
17:20I wish he means I was always singing a song or doing a play.
17:23Absolutely, yes.
17:24He was just a born performer.
17:26He was a born performer, no question about it, yes.
17:29He liked conducting things at school and he was always the one that bossed everybody about.
17:35I think gentle leadership is what I would describe it as.
17:39Yeah.
17:40Do you and Gareth's dad talk about the pride?
17:43Don't listen to this, Gareth.
17:45Yes, we do.
17:46Close your ears.
17:47Close your ears.
17:48We look at everything he does, avidly.
17:51Everything on television, even the chat shows and the interviews in the morning.
17:55It's good.
17:56I always call them up after something so they'll watch it and give me the feedback.
17:59You must value their opinion.
18:00That's the key.
18:01I do.
18:02I really do, yeah.
18:03They've always been my sounding board.
18:05And you give it to me straight.
18:06I mean, you do always say...
18:07I would definitely give it to me straight, yes.
18:09Yes, I certainly would.
18:10So she gives the right type of advice?
18:12I think so, yeah.
18:13I don't believe in soft soaping, actually.
18:17I definitely feel that there was a lot of tough love when I was growing up and my parents
18:21were very clear with their expectations, shall we say.
18:25And then I just sort of, you know, kind of found my way and then I went off to university
18:30and when I came back and lived at home, that's where I think we became much closer.
18:38Donkey!
18:39Oh, look at this.
18:40We really are in the new forest.
18:42I know, but this is great, isn't it?
18:44I love this.
18:45I think that your reason for being late for work is because there was a sheep in the way.
18:49Yes.
18:50Really sorry.
18:51Had to stop at the donkey crossing.
18:52This is actually one of my favourite bits of the new forest right here.
18:55Right here.
18:56Absolutely love it.
18:57It's near Emery Down, Minstead.
19:00It's so beautiful.
19:02Well, that bodes well because the next property we're viewing is in Minstead Village.
19:09In the heart of the New Forest National Park, cows, ponies, donkeys and sheep roam freely amongst the village hall, complete with cow park, the community shop and the pub which overlooks the pretty green.
19:23A leisurely 15-minute stroll from the village centre sits this gorgeous thatched cottage.
19:31It was built in 1921 and is not listed.
19:35When I clapped eyes on it, it made my heart sing.
19:39I'm hoping it'll have the same effect on Gareth.
19:42Oh, wow.
19:43Look at that.
19:44Oh, look at that.
19:45That is gorgeous.
19:46I couldn't not have shown you this.
19:47You certainly couldn't.
19:48That is really, really special.
19:49I like the door.
19:50It's a postcard.
19:51It is absolutely a postcard.
19:52I'm going to send a picture to my wife because that is real.
19:53Oh, good idea.
19:54Good idea.
19:55We really should give Becky a say in this, shouldn't we?
19:56Absolutely, yeah.
19:57She is legally obliged to have that say.
19:58She is, no question.
19:59Go on.
20:00Yes.
20:01Right, the wife has been informed.
20:02Let's go and see if the inside suits.
20:03Yes, let's.
20:04Well, this house has evoked a very positive response from Gareth.
20:21Oh, no, I've seen something really exciting.
20:26oh no I've seen something really exciting and there's another yep we'll be getting to the 40
20:32foot heated pool shortly Gareth but I know that top priority on this house hunt is space for a
20:38piano I thought we'd start with a dining room or what's currently the dining room right just to
20:47start to get a feel for the place it's a good room beautiful view get a good-sized table in here yeah
20:53one two three four five six seven eight people around the table this feels like a very nice space
20:59for a piano I've got the baby grand you got it but I've got a baby grander oh ah so okay so no smaller
21:08right that's disappointing oh have we just hit a sour note let's put this straight edge this way down
21:21with a bear that's it keep going keep going up into that corner to that corner like that oh oh yes
21:27yes okay this could be the second piano oh it's a nice oh we're getting really getting carried away
21:35now I like this room good because on the opposite side of the entrance hall is this slightly larger
21:42reception oh oh oh there's a pool I like the pool yeah that's a proper pool I suspect the kids will
21:53like a heated pool yes I think this is what you'd want to send Becky a photo of yeah you're right oh
21:59yeah yeah take a picture of this oh yeah she's responded she said to the to the outside of the
22:06house she said OMG okay well hang on hang on say hold your horses your horses fancy a dip where's the
22:16kitchen how are we gonna go there should I get my timer out I'm gonna do it yeah no no no no please
22:20don't one two one two we're in the kitchen well I feel like it needs a bit of Melonification this is
22:32not the kitchen of my dreams or perhaps that the design choices that I would make but as a structure
22:38it's a good space I mean I think it just needs bringing a little bit more up today yes you're right
22:43the inside feels like it needs some work to bring it up to what are you up for that kind of work or
22:49did you or Becky have that eye yes go right we're gonna do a room at a time we're gonna update this we're
22:55gonna get the kitchen done it's what we've done in our current one and it takes a long time that's so
23:00I suppose it's budget permitting well before we discuss that topic there's more to see a nice
23:07shallow stairs I like yeah very easy I like very easy stairs yes you could roll down those nice and
23:13easily right is this my room or yours oh well is there one for me in this house do you think this
23:25is the master bedroom yes okay this can be your room okay in addition to this room there are three
23:35further bedrooms could you get a double in here if this wasn't here you could put a double in that
23:44corner couldn't you okay room two if you had a bed here this one could be you'd chunk your head
23:50this is turning into a classic location versus house situation they love this location this is what
23:59Gareth is looking for but it's hard to compete with the home that they have built for themselves
24:07in London so this is bedroom three single bed but this could be a double I think with a little bit
24:14of work a little bit of room in the budget they could get there with this house it's just that it's a
24:19little bit towards it outside the one acre garden offers multiple versatile outbuildings and a huge
24:33paddock oh my god paddock it's enormous enormous that's crazy you could have barbecues camping you
24:42could have a performance space here couldn't you could have everyone sat on the grass and then have a
24:47little yeah festival stage stage Malone fest and just there is a just a little track that's the
24:56forest yeah there's the house and there's the forest oh it's so nice an amazing spot it's really only
25:05the size of the bedroom so that's the problem yes and we'd have to do an extension you would have to do
25:12I'm sure that could be got round could be done yes and I send Becky some pictures there are lots of
25:20things to love about this property but will the price be one of them no I think the budget would be
25:28over there's more than 1.2 I do they've gone rogue I do I think it's going to be what are you going
25:36for 1.5 wow all right go big or go home I could win this twice you know no I don't think it's that
25:42much because I think the size of the rooms is going to bring it down and I think 1.2 okay this property
25:48is currently on the market for nine hundred ninety five thousand pounds so you have the money to do the
25:56work Gareth Malone 995 yes you could have a family kitchen there mama wants to tell me what else you
26:05want just why I want you to do a big family room for you have a huge table and great big beautiful
26:11kitchen a great big beautiful kitchen yeah she's right we get permission for that yes yes it's not
26:16listed. Not listed. You said that together. I know. This 1920s detached, thatched cottage
26:29offers three receptions, four bedrooms, a heated pool and an acre of garden for £995,000.
26:38Right, so what you do, you build right out. You build a huge family room with kitchen
26:45out here. You'd have a great big dining space. Mm, that's what it needs. And a proper kitchen.
26:50That's what I would do. Well, I think it's a good plan. Do you? I think you smashed it. Okay, that's what we'll do.
26:55Then you get your piano into that room. Into the front room. And you still have your snug looking over the pool.
27:02Like John Lennon in a completely white room, looking out, Becky swimming up and down. Perfect. Me playing Imagine.
27:08Absolutely. I'm sold.
27:15After a full day of house hunting, I can think of no better way to wind down
27:26than by meeting some of the New Forest's most famous residents.
27:32Oh, yes. And hello to you too. Absolutely.
27:35Hi, what a welcome.
27:37New Forest ponies Poppy and her foal Lenny are owned by commoners Andrew and Sarah Parry-Norton,
27:44who runs Storm's Farm in Cadnam.
27:48Anybody could be a commoner. If you buy a house that's got commoning rights, you could be a commoner.
27:51You could turn out animals. But it's not an easy life, don't get me wrong.
27:54Your animals got to be checked on, looked after, made sure they're okay.
27:58It's not something you can just disappear off holiday for a couple of weeks at a time.
28:01You've got to make sure you look after your animals.
28:04Presently, more than 500 commoners exercise their right to graze some 8,000 ponies, cattle, donkeys and sheep.
28:12You tell people just to keep the distance, please admire them, but don't interact with them.
28:17The thing is, if they start getting fed, they start getting more humanised, and then they get aggressive.
28:22And unfortunately, if that happens, then that pony has to be removed from the forest.
28:25We bought my daughter a New Forest book all about a pony who'd been fed, and it hadn't gone well.
28:30Oh, and then she used to lecture us, do you remember?
28:32Yes.
28:34Don't be funny.
28:38We've got a new singer, haven't we?
28:39Yes.
28:42Auditioning for your choir.
28:42Nice tone, yeah.
28:43Yeah, very vocal.
28:45Can you sing me this note, please?
28:48Lovely.
28:54There you go, how's that?
28:55Very nice.
28:57An equine ensemble, yes, I can see it now.
29:02Thank you so much.
29:03It's been a pleasure to meet you.
29:04Fascinating.
29:05Pleasure to meet you both.
29:06Now there's something for Gareth to ponder as we head back to our hotel for a sundowner.
29:11Hampshire's sun-soaked coastline and bewitching New Forest landscape are perfect settings for homebuyers from all walks of life.
29:29Take a look at what else is currently on the market.
29:31This four-bed, four-bath, detached, chalet-style home boasts a sleek and stylish kitchen diner and a separate sitting room, both with bi-fold doors that open onto the south-facing garden, on the market for £795,000.
29:48If you happen to be a megastar with a mammoth budget, one of the county's most desirable homes is up for sale for the first time in more than 20 years.
30:02This Grade II listed Victorian property features a grand reception hall, a luxurious kitchen diner, two opulent receptions and six bedrooms, along with 22 acres of land.
30:18The price? Just shy of £7 million.
30:24A more affordable way of treating yourself to the superstar lifestyle would be to hire this deluxe yacht.
30:32Sleeping up to five people in the two berths, it boasts a fully equipped galley with indoor and outdoor living areas.
30:40Prices start from £150 per night for a two-night minimum stay.
30:48It's great to see how at home Gareth feels here in the New Forest, and yesterday I think we were on the right track in helping him find a family house to call his own.
31:00But with two more properties to see today and some stunning coastline, you know we're only just getting started.
31:07Day two, and we're making a beeline for Burleigh, one of the New Forest's most sought-after villages.
31:16I think it could be exactly Gareth's kind of tempo.
31:20Just the right side of busy and surrounded by the serenity of the forest.
31:24There's an array of independent shops, a cider farm and several pubs, plus Mama Malone would be a 25-minute drive tops from here.
31:36What's not to love?
31:37Here we are.
31:41I have to say, this is the perfect spot.
31:44I absolutely love this area.
31:45So do I.
31:46We come here quite often just for a day out.
31:48Location?
31:49Nailed it.
31:50Perfect.
31:50Absolutely spot on.
31:52And this is the house?
31:54This is the house.
31:55OK.
31:58Right.
31:59My instant reaction is it looks a bit modern for my taste.
32:03Yes, except it dates back to 1875.
32:06It used to be the bakery in the village.
32:09And because yesterday you were both so taken with the commoner's rights, we've managed to find you a house with those New Forest rights.
32:18With a paddock, by the way, that comes with the house.
32:20So if you would like to live that New Forest life...
32:22I have my very own pony.
32:24This is your chance.
32:24My little pony.
32:25Yes.
32:25OK, look, never judge a book by its cover.
32:27I'm not saying no.
32:29Oh, good.
32:31And is that the garden over there?
32:32Part of it.
32:34Part of it?
32:35Let's head in.
32:36Now I'm intrigued.
32:41Another box, Hedge.
32:45Come in.
32:46Ooh.
32:48OK.
32:48Not what I was expecting at all.
32:51I thought you might say that.
32:52Oh, wow.
32:53Which is why I was looking so smug.
32:54Oh, that's cute.
32:55Look at the fireplace.
32:56Yeah, that's really nice.
32:57Oh, my goodness, it's sweet.
32:59I love it.
33:00I love it.
33:01It's so light.
33:02And you have a dining room right here.
33:04Yes.
33:05You have no commute.
33:06No.
33:06From there to there.
33:07Should we just...
33:08Let me just time it.
33:09One, two.
33:11Perfect.
33:12That's fine.
33:13It's a lovely feel.
33:13Is it moral?
33:14Would you like to see moral?
33:15I'm intrigued, yeah.
33:16Yes.
33:16I like it.
33:17We've drawn him in.
33:18Yeah, absolutely.
33:19I'm surprised, actually, because I didn't fall in love with it on the outside.
33:22If you ask me, there's plenty to fall in love with on the inside.
33:28Ooh.
33:28Oh.
33:30Oh.
33:30Oh.
33:31Like it.
33:31Ooh.
33:32And then this.
33:33You like it.
33:34I like it.
33:35I like it.
33:35I'm seeing this as a music room.
33:37You could definitely feel a decent piano in here, couldn't you?
33:39Oh, absolutely.
33:40That's a good little space.
33:41A little morning room or a music room.
33:43Yes.
33:44Very nice.
33:46The central hallway, however, seems to be scrambling his scales.
33:51I'm not quite sure what this is.
33:54There's something feng shui.
33:56Oh.
33:57What is this?
33:58What is the energy of this space doing?
34:00It's a hallway.
34:00It's a hallway, and you can't quite get a sofa in front of that fire.
34:04It gives it a feeling of space.
34:06It's just a hall.
34:07I've never really had a hall.
34:08No, this really opens the whole place out.
34:11I feel like I'm ready for one.
34:11OK, so if I think of this as a hall, then it's fine.
34:14We can work out this space later.
34:16All right.
34:17There are other spaces.
34:18There are other spaces.
34:19Follow me.
34:21This is unusual.
34:22Ooh.
34:23Ooh.
34:23Oh, what?
34:25That's amazing.
34:26Oh, wow.
34:27Oh, that.
34:28Yes.
34:29Oh, isn't it beautiful?
34:31That is so...
34:33Oh, look at that.
34:33Oh, my goodness.
34:35That is so pretty.
34:37I love it.
34:39Oh, Gareth.
34:39I love this.
34:41I think we found Mama House.
34:43Yeah.
34:44Oh, it's absolutely beautiful.
34:47You know, my current house, we've got a dining space, and it has a long table, and you can
34:50have 10, 12 people all around the table.
34:53And I love that Christmas...
34:55This is just that room.
34:56This could be that room.
34:57Yeah.
34:57I'm very sold on this room.
34:58It's really nice.
34:59Excellent.
35:01I'm sending them off to nose-about on their own.
35:04Make sure he behaves, Sean.
35:05I will do my best.
35:07She's been trying for nearly 50 years.
35:10Two of the four bedrooms are on the ground floor.
35:14Ooh.
35:15Ooh.
35:16What's...
35:17You make that noise in every room.
35:20You like this place, don't you?
35:21I like it very much.
35:22Oh, look at the beams.
35:23This feels like it ought to be a bedroom, to put a single bed in.
35:26Well, perfect, because you've got an en suite.
35:28You could get a double, couldn't you?
35:29Easily.
35:30Easily get a double in there.
35:31A little double.
35:31And it's shut off private.
35:34The remaining bedrooms are upstairs.
35:37Oh, it's lovely and bright up here.
35:43Ah.
35:44Very bright.
35:44The master bedroom.
35:45That's nice, isn't it?
35:46And look.
35:47Oh, I love the bow window.
35:49Look at that.
35:51Gareth, look at that view.
35:52I can see trees.
35:54Oh, it's nice.
35:55It's stunning, isn't it?
35:57Next door, the smallest bedroom is presently used as a dressing room.
36:01And this has got space for all my moisturisers and skincare products.
36:07There's also a conveniently situated laundry room up here.
36:11I tell you what, I've always thought,
36:13instead of lugging all your washing downstairs
36:15and then lugging it all back up,
36:18to have a washing machine upstairs is quite a sensible idea.
36:21But as we've learned, the most pressing issue...
36:24Can I go over there?
36:26No, not quite.
36:28..is finding a spot for the piano.
36:30I'm just going to move this.
36:32What can possibly go wrong?
36:33There we are.
36:34Right.
36:34Now, that, under the stairs, in the nook...
36:39Oh, I see.
36:40Yes, yes.
36:42That could work.
36:44Yeah.
36:44And then I could play the piano.
36:46I'm here...
36:46Looking at the forest.
36:47Looking at the new forest.
36:48How beautiful.
36:51The forest is visible from almost every window in this property
36:55and the woodland neighbours often pop in for a natter.
37:01That is what it's about.
37:03Look at that.
37:04That's the forest.
37:05Literally outside your window.
37:08Just leave me here.
37:09Outside, the generous garden largely sits to one side of the house
37:16and includes a large paddock along with two double garages
37:20which could be knocked down to make way for a super music studio.
37:25Here they come.
37:26Here I am.
37:27Galloping up the stairs.
37:29This is lovely, isn't it?
37:30Isn't it just a little elevated part of the garden?
37:34Yeah, it is.
37:35This location is just so perfect.
37:37The forest is ready for you, Gareth Malone,
37:39but are you ready for the forest?
37:40I think so.
37:42What do you think it's on the market for?
37:441.1.
37:45Oh, I'm in a similar sort of place.
37:47I was in 1 million, but I've upped it to 1.1.
37:49I'm going to say 1 million and 50,000 pounds.
37:54Hmm.
37:56It's on the market for 1.25 million.
38:00Oh, is it?
38:02Oh, no.
38:03Gosh.
38:05That's the location, isn't it?
38:06I'd have to borrow a bit from you, I think.
38:09Yeah.
38:10Yeah, location.
38:10Good luck with that.
38:11The location's absolutely incredible, isn't it?
38:13It's a curate's egg.
38:14There's bits that I love
38:16and there are bits that just don't quite work.
38:18It's really difficult.
38:19With the budget, it's either location or size.
38:22This makes me feel like
38:23I'd want to do some quite big structural things to this
38:27if I was going to buy it.
38:28I mean, I kind of feel like you've said that about every house.
38:31Yeah, it's true.
38:31It's a different way of living.
38:32Completely. Yes, completely.
38:35Are you saying that I'm just sort of imagining
38:36my London house in a country location again?
38:39If I had money every time someone wanted to move
38:41their current house to a different location,
38:43I could buy this house.
38:45Yes, I bet.
38:48At £1.25 million,
38:51this former bakery is now a contemporary family home
38:54in one of the New Forest's most sought-after villages.
38:57I'm really learning just how expensive this area is
39:01and that maybe my ambition outstrips my means.
39:06Quite possibly, yes.
39:08And that's disappointing.
39:10I need to go back and look at the budget.
39:12Oh, yeah.
39:13You could do that.
39:14Well, I mean, I can look at it all I like.
39:16It's work harder.
39:19Ah, yes.
39:22For now, Gareth, let's turn our attention to play
39:26as we head to Sandbanks Beach,
39:28just over the border in Dorset,
39:30for some high-octane, adrenaline-fuelled action.
39:34Oh, this looks fun.
39:37Gareth's used to making waves in the world of music.
39:40Today, we're hoping to make a splash
39:42in the world of wing surfing
39:44under the watchful eye of instructor Aaron Spence.
39:48I paddleboard it.
39:49OK.
39:50Is it like that?
39:51Eh, a bit more extreme, but it'll be fine.
39:53Extreme paddleboarding.
39:54Yeah, we could put it like that.
39:56Great.
39:58While standing on a paddleboard,
39:59we'll use a detached, inflatable wing
40:02to propel ourselves across the water,
40:05reaching top speeds of more than 40 kilometres an hour.
40:09The more that you pull in,
40:11the more power you're going to get.
40:15However...
40:16Perfect.
40:17..today's very light breeze
40:19might mean we go a tad slower,
40:22which, in all honesty, is fine by me.
40:26So, over there, we've got our wetsuits.
40:28We've got three wetsuits for all of you three
40:30to be going on to the water.
40:33Don't avoid our gaze.
40:35You're in a wetsuit.
40:36No, I'm not.
40:38We've got a special one for you.
40:39Oh, I'm nice.
40:40Just so, in case you have to rescue us,
40:41it'll keep my mind running away.
40:43An extra short one.
40:45The lady is not for turning,
40:47but she will watch from the shore.
40:50Happy with that?
40:52I'm ecstatic. How are you?
40:53Yeah.
40:53Woo-hoo!
40:55Good.
40:55That's about as far as I go.
40:57Let's go.
41:00Wingsurfing requires no previous experience,
41:03and, according to Aaron,
41:04mastering the basics is incredibly easy.
41:09Fly!
41:12Famous last words.
41:14I'm just trying to not fall in.
41:16Last we'll see of her.
41:17Stand up while it's above my head.
41:28Yep.
41:29Up, up, up.
41:31Oh, God.
41:33Oh, gosh!
41:33I don't believe in you.
41:37How am I to stand up?
41:39Bring your front leg up.
41:41There we go.
41:44Fantastic.
41:45Oh, my gosh.
41:46It's quite difficult.
41:51How have you got up?
41:53I just did that.
41:56Well, Gareth,
41:57for someone rapidly approaching
41:58your half-a-century milestone,
42:00I'd say you're not too bad.
42:04Oh, I'm moving.
42:08Perfect.
42:09Well done.
42:09That's really good.
42:11It's okay.
42:12Wait for me!
42:14Oh, wow.
42:15Go Sonali.
42:15You're brilliant.
42:18The chase is on,
42:19and I feel like you're waiting, Gareth.
42:24The lack of wind
42:25means we're more drifting than surfing,
42:27but I've got to say,
42:28it is very pleasant indeed.
42:30And we're feeling rather proud of ourselves.
42:40We did it.
42:40This has been great.
42:41And we didn't look like fools.
42:44But there is one person we can always count on
42:46to give proper, honest feedback.
42:50Mama Malone, of course.
42:52How did we look out there?
42:56Epic?
42:57Dramatic?
42:58Not epic.
42:59Not dramatic.
42:59I'm not quite hard to describe it, really.
43:01You went miles away.
43:03It's gnarly.
43:04What are you saying about me?
43:05We hardly moved, as far as I could see.
43:07The wind was not on our side.
43:09You were more or less static.
43:09It was the wrong type of wind.
43:10Sorry, it was on no side.
43:12There was no wind at all.
43:13They said that we could go up to 45 kilometres an hour.
43:16Do you think I made that?
43:17No.
43:18I definitely don't.
43:20I really don't.
43:21Do you think I made 20?
43:22I mean, I felt like I was about half a mile an hour.
43:24Did you move?
43:25Did you actually move at all?
43:26I thought I was good.
43:27I thought I was fast.
43:28No, no.
43:29No.
43:30You weren't.
43:32Is this how you were at his concerts growing up?
43:34No, no.
43:35Truthful.
43:36Truthful.
43:38Yes.
43:38I would come out and I'd say, how was it?
43:41And she'd go, I'll tell you in the car.
43:43Fawning and flattery just ain't Sian's style, and that's why we love her.
44:01It's Mystery House time, and we're heading to the hamlet of Godwinscroft,
44:06on the most south-westerly fringes of the New Forest National Park.
44:09Bransgore is the nearest village, a three-minute drive away,
44:16where Gareth and the family will find everything they need,
44:19including a village hall, a small supermarket, a post office and a pub.
44:24On a quiet country lane, a leisurely 20-minute stroll from the centre of Bransgore,
44:30sits our Mystery House.
44:35Gareth Malone asked for an older property.
44:38He loves the look of something with character,
44:41but the proportions inside aren't working for him.
44:44So with the Mystery House, I've had to ignore his request for history
44:49and show him something that hopefully provides the space he's after.
44:54The thing is, it's almost brand new.
44:57Originally built in the 1960s, this property was meticulously and exquisitely renovated
45:07and extended by the current owners two years ago.
45:11The result?
45:13Generously proportioned, light-filled rooms
45:15that deliver an elegant blend of contemporary country living,
45:19which I'm hoping will have Gareth singing from the rooftops.
45:25This kitchen space is an absolute dream.
45:29Upstairs, well, I'm hoping that does have the dimensions that Gareth is after.
45:35Let's find out.
45:36Oh, there they are.
45:41Oh, hello.
45:41Welcome to the Mystery House.
45:42I like this.
45:43Yes, I love it.
45:45Yeah.
45:46What's mysterious about it?
45:48Well, you tell me.
45:49Well, it's not slap-bang in the middle of the kind of really gnarly bit of the forest,
45:55but we are still in the forest.
45:56Yes, we are.
45:57Yeah.
45:58It's new.
45:59It's not immediately full of rustic charm.
46:02If you kind of do this and squint and close one eye, it's kind of Georgian, right?
46:06It's Georgian vibes.
46:08Yes, definitely.
46:08Sometimes you've got to go vibes-based when things aren't going your way.
46:13Georgian vibes?
46:14Georgian vibes.
46:16Honestly, I'm squinting for all I'm worth and it still looks like a new build.
46:20But Mum thinks it has Georgian vibes.
46:22She sees that.
46:24I do.
46:24And so, therefore, we're going to listen to her and we're going to head in.
46:27All right.
46:28Let's go in.
46:29Let's go.
46:30Let's take him in.
46:32Bear with, Gareth.
46:33Those Georgian vibes are ramped to the max inside.
46:38The hallway that we haven't quite seen yet.
46:42Oh, oh, it's a proper hallway.
46:44I love a proper square hallway.
46:46And the rooms come off it.
46:47And the rooms come off it and it's central and there's somewhere you could put shoes.
46:51So, as it turns out, all along, Gareth Malone was just a trad wife.
46:55Yeah.
46:56I'm really conventional.
46:57It's beautiful.
46:58I thought I was so unique and interesting.
46:59You are unique in a really traditional way.
47:02Great.
47:03I was thinking you could put a porch on the outside to leave the boots.
47:06Yeah, perfect.
47:06To add that rustic charm.
47:07Yes.
47:07Give it a bit of rustic.
47:08Do you know the boot rooms you see in magazines?
47:10Yes.
47:11There's one of those there.
47:12Oh, wow.
47:13Yes.
47:15Oh, the boot.
47:16Oh!
47:17Oh, the boot.
47:18Oh, my gosh.
47:19Look at this.
47:20It's the laundry room.
47:22Oh, I've always wanted.
47:23It's even got one of these, whatever these are called.
47:28The, the, the, the, the laundry pulley.
47:30Oh, a pulley.
47:31Oh, yes.
47:32What's in there?
47:33I love this.
47:35Oh, yes.
47:36So, you could come in from your walk this side.
47:39Oh.
47:40Bring the wet dog in here for a soaking.
47:44It's beautiful.
47:46It sounds like they've started living in here.
47:48Very neat.
47:49Oh, I love this.
47:50Love this.
47:50Do you?
47:51Yeah, I do.
47:52Oh.
47:53Oh, look, look, look, look.
47:57If they're this excited about the utility room, I can only imagine what they'll make of the kitchen.
48:05This is it.
48:06This is it.
48:07Oh, look at the field.
48:09Oh, my gosh.
48:11Yeah, this is really great.
48:11Oh, my God, Gareth, this is just.
48:14It's quite nice, isn't it?
48:16Look at the size.
48:17It's a kitchen.
48:18It's got lots of charm.
48:19It's got the space.
48:20You could put whatever you like in it.
48:22It's absolutely beautiful.
48:24Somebody's really put some sort of this off.
48:26If you want to open anything, that's the cupboard you open because that is the thing that everyone wants.
48:32Oh, a larder.
48:33Oh, yes.
48:34Yeah, that's a really nice.
48:35That's just.
48:36Store cupboard.
48:37This kitchen setup is very similar to what we've got in London, isn't it?
48:40Yes.
48:41We've got a big, long table.
48:43And we have a sofa in the kitchen.
48:45But what's currently missing from his London home is this view.
48:50Two oak trees at the end of the garden.
48:52And the porous end of the garden into the field is amazing.
48:58I love this.
49:00These are beautiful doors.
49:02These are great.
49:03Absolutely beautiful doors.
49:03These doors.
49:03These doors.
49:03Absolutely beautiful doors.
49:05Hello.
49:08He's scaring the birds.
49:09He's scaring the birds.
49:12It's really nice.
49:14You've done well.
49:15Oh, you've really cracked it.
49:17You've done well.
49:18Oh, yeah.
49:18Absolutely.
49:19This is really great.
49:19This is really great.
49:20I sense a big but.
49:22Oh, I can't think of any buts.
49:24No, there are no howevers.
49:26It's beautiful.
49:28Yeah, I've got no comments.
49:30It's great.
49:30No notes.
49:31Onwards.
49:32That's a fast.
49:33That is a fast.
49:34It's the Georgian vibes, I tell you.
49:38And finally down here, the living room.
49:40Oh.
49:41This is really nice.
49:43Yes.
49:43Again, the view.
49:45I love that view.
49:47I love the being in the forest, the really intense...
49:51In it.
49:52In it.
49:53And this is further away, but I can see forest.
49:56And I could walk across that field and be surrounded by trees.
50:00It's really beautiful.
50:02This feels much closer to what I'm used to.
50:05And I feel this has that freshness that you seem to be after.
50:11The best mystery houses really make buyers think about what they truly want.
50:16And by that measure, this one delivers.
50:19OK.
50:20Ah, great.
50:21It also provides on the bedroom's front.
50:24That's good.
50:25Nice, wide room.
50:27Space for a big bed.
50:29Oh.
50:29Not enormous, but it's got a nice en suite.
50:34Oh, beautiful.
50:35Oh, yeah.
50:38Yeah.
50:38Oh, it's lovely.
50:40A lovely room.
50:43There's a second double next door.
50:45I feel like you could put a bunk bed in there and then you'd be able to just look out at the field.
50:50Look at the view.
50:51You'd get deer and all sorts of other animals.
50:54Can you see?
50:55No.
50:55Thank you very much.
50:57To stand on.
50:57You're actually on tiptoes, believe it or not.
51:01This shares the family bathroom with two further bedrooms.
51:05So it's three double bedrooms and a very good-sized single bedroom.
51:10And all beautiful.
51:11It doesn't end there, because as well as a double-length garage with music studio potential, there's a fantastic addition in the garden.
51:20Oh, look at that.
51:23Oh.
51:24Hello.
51:28Isn't that...
51:29Oh, that's great.
51:30Oh, my goodness.
51:31Pilates studio.
51:33A yoga pilates studio.
51:35Oh, dance studio.
51:38Oh.
51:40I can dance in here.
51:41Yeah.
51:42This is a great space.
51:43This is beautiful.
51:44Oh, look at this picture window.
51:45That window.
51:46Look at the view.
51:47It's amazing.
51:51Whoa.
51:52And then they go back.
51:54Oh, my word.
51:55And then you get the next door.
51:56It's a proper garden.
51:57Oh, it's fun, isn't it?
51:58It's great.
51:59It's a croquet lawn out there.
52:01It's really quiet, isn't it?
52:03Very quiet.
52:06This is a lovely, lovely addition.
52:09I can't help but think that Gareth is very pleasantly surprised by what this modern home offers.
52:17Are you glad you've seen the option?
52:20Yes.
52:21And are you glad I defied you when it came to the age of a property?
52:25I don't like to be defied, but all right, yeah.
52:28Yeah, I'll give you it.
52:29It's really made me think.
52:31So, mystery revealed.
52:33Yes.
52:33Let's talk about the cost.
52:36Crunch.
52:37Yeah.
52:38This isn't easy.
52:40I think it's 1.1 million.
52:42OK.
52:43I think it's 950,000.
52:46Oh.
52:47Oh.
52:48Don't look at me like that.
52:48You're making me doubt it now.
52:50The mystery house is on the market for 1.2 million pounds.
52:541.2 million.
52:55Oh.
52:57You see?
52:57This exquisitely renovated four-bed family home blends country charm with modern luxury and is on the market for 1.2 million pounds.
53:09I know it's in the new forest, but it's not in my version of the new forest, and I think that's...
53:15That's a bit of a drawback, isn't it?
53:16That's giving me pause on this house, because it just feels like it's...
53:20Just outside.
53:21Just outside again.
53:22But it is beautiful.
53:22There's a lot to think about, but before we debrief, we're taking a moment to enjoy the silence.
53:34And re-centre.
53:36Aum.
53:41Aum, aum, aum, aum.
53:52And that has put us in the perfect state to sit together, with tea and cake, of course, and reflect on the week's learnings.
54:10What a few days it's been.
54:12It really has.
54:13It certainly has.
54:14I feel like I've been on a real journey, a learning curve, even.
54:18I think I've learnt about myself.
54:19Have you?
54:20I think I have, yes.
54:21I think I've had some revelations.
54:23I've definitely learnt about what it is that I'm looking for.
54:26Yeah.
54:26I don't know that I've entirely found it, but I've definitely got closer.
54:29It's been really useful.
54:30I must say, I did lie awake last night, sort of running numbers in my head, and thinking,
54:35how could I make the thatch house work for me and my family?
54:40I'm quite taken with that.
54:41I think it could be great.
54:43It's not right in its current form, but I feel like that place, it speaks to me.
54:49Wow.
54:49I think, actually, a new forest pony might be my spiritual animal.
54:55Oh.
54:56It really has learnt something.
54:57Yeah.
54:59I just feel that there's a poetry to the new forest.
55:02You wanted to be hugged by it.
55:04You don't want to just look out onto it.
55:06I want to be embraced by the forest.
55:07That's well put.
55:08Tendrils of the forest sort of creeping in and having to sort of hack them back all the time.
55:12Hug you like a mother's love.
55:14Not quite like that bit.
55:19Spiders and all.
55:20See what you did there.
55:21Gareth, I must thank you for bringing Sian along.
55:24Oh, my gosh.
55:25You've just made my week.
55:28I've loved working with you this week.
55:30I've had a ball.
55:31You've been an absolute hoot.
55:33And not just when you're making owl and pigeon noises.
55:36She does do those very well.
55:38I do.
55:39I specialise in pigeon.
55:41Is your life always this entertaining?
55:43Yeah.
55:43Oh.
55:44It's been a really, really special week.
55:46Hasn't it?
55:46Hasn't it?
55:46Very special.
55:47Really enjoyed this.
55:48That's about as sincere as we go.
55:53Cheers.
55:54Love you, bye.
55:55Cheers.
55:55Love you, bye.
56:05A big part of a successful escape to the country is us listening to the voices of our buyers
56:11and bringing them together, something Gareth Malone knows all too well with his choirs.
56:16So when it came to finding him and his family a countryside home, he had a lot of voices
56:23to listen to.
56:24Is there going to be enough space for us all?
56:27Do we need to think about primary school, secondary school?
56:29Will one of the kids be leaving home soon?
56:32Can we up our budget?
56:34Is this the right time?
56:36But the one thing we know for certain is wherever and whenever this beautiful family makes this
56:42move, it'll be calm, well-balanced and perfectly in tune with its surroundings.
56:48If you would like to escape to the country in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales,
56:56remember you don't need to be famous.
56:58Why not apply online at bbc.co.uk forward slash take part?
57:05Would you like to see my mother's impression of a wood pigeon?
57:08Come on, please.
57:09I'm not here for you.
57:10They're not filming.
57:11They're not filming.
57:11We're making 10.
57:12Do the impression.
57:16Stop it.
57:17You're not filming.
57:25You're not filming.
57:27You're not filming.
57:28You're not filming.
57:29You're not filming.
57:30You're not filming.
57:31You're not filming.
57:32You're not filming.
