The Toronto Blue Jays continue their aggressive offseason by signing Tyler Rogers, and this move makes a TON of sense for the bullpen. Everyone's talking about the arm angle contrast - going from Yusei Kikuchi's sky-high release point to Rogers literally submarining from the ground. But there's so much more value here than just messing with hitters.

Plus, an important update on the Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette market, and why the Braves signing Hyeseong Kim does NOT take Atlanta out of the Bo business.

Rogers is a solid innings eater who stays healthy despite the torque on his body. He's not getting 30 saves, but on rocky nights he gets you to Hoffman, to García, to the back of the bullpen. Toronto saw how crucial it is to have reliable arms after overusing guys last season. This adds to the circle of trust and saves mileage on your best relievers for when it matters most.

⚾ TYLER ROGERS SIGNING BREAKDOWN:
Why This Move Works:
- Value beyond just messing with hitters on back-to-back days
- This just works for Toronto's needs
- Stays healthy despite torque on body
- Bridge to Hoffman, García, high-level, back-end guys

Circle of Trust:
- Dan & Buck talked about this constantly in playoffs
- Too many nights with only 2-3 guys to trust
- Rogers joins that reliable circle
- Saves mileage on elite arms

🔵⚪ KYLE TUCKER OR BO BICHETTE UPDATE:
The Big Question:
- Tucker OR Bo?
- Could it be Tucker AND Bo?
- Markets still developing

00:00Where the Toronto Blue Jays added another strong arm and continued to build up a very good
00:06offseason so far with a couple of big tickets still out there.
00:10But Tyler Rogers, come on down to the Rogers Centre for the Blue Jays.
00:14The Blue Jays remain one of the busiest teams this offseason, bringing in Tyler Rogers on
00:32a new contract, and I think this move makes a ton of sense.
00:37The one that everyone has pointed out is obviously you go, in a game you could go, from Yesavage
00:43who has one of the higher release points in baseball, to Rogers who literally couldn't
00:49have a lower one unless they let him submarine through the bottom of the mound and just kind
00:57of like softball the pitch in there.
01:00This is obviously going to be a bit troublesome for hitters.
01:04But I do think that Rogers has some value on the other four Jays where Yesavage isn't
01:08starting as well, and I also don't think that the Blue Jays are going to look at pitchers
01:12from now on and go, traditional arm slot, loser.
01:17I don't think that's going to be the case.
01:19But I think that this works a lot for Toronto.
01:23The one thing that he is, is a really solid innings eater.
01:28He's just, for the amount of torque that he puts on his body, he stayed pretty healthy
01:32and pretty reliable.
01:34I don't know how many saves this guy is going to get for Toronto or anything like that,
01:38but just in terms of guys who can eat innings, guys who are going to be able to get on a
01:45rocky night, just get us to Hoffman, get us to Garcia, get us to those guys in the back
01:51part of the bullpen, and we'll be fine.
01:53This is a really, really solid, reliable arm that the Blue Jays are bringing in and one
02:00that I think Jays fans should be excited about.
02:03And you can start to see how this bullpen takes shape.
02:06Obviously, your mileage may vary on Jeff Hoffman, but I think having a pitcher like Rogers to
02:13be able to get to, like I said, the Garcias, the Hoffmans, and whoever else is going to
02:17be in the back part of that bullpen is going to be a really valuable thing.
02:20And Toronto saw how important it is to just have a guy that you can rely on to go out there
02:24and get out on a consistent basis.
02:26They saw it with Louis Varland, who I wonder where he kind of factors into everything this
02:30season, but this is a strong move for the Blue Jays bullpen and just a really, really
02:36smart one when Diaz gone, Suarez, Williams, all of them off the board.
02:42Where do we go now?
02:43This is a very, very solid add to the Blue Jays bullpen and just adding a little bit of
02:49a different dynamic and just adding another major league reliever out there.
02:54And that was an issue at times this season for Toronto.
02:57Again, we all look at the season with rose-colored glasses because of how awesome it went for
03:03about six months there.
03:05But one of the reasons why there were issues with Hoffman is because they had to use him
03:10for two innings in a lot of games.
03:12And that led to a bit of a downfall.
03:14Like he was going at an all-star level to start the season off.
03:17And then right around the time of that Angels series, it was just, it was two innings every
03:21night because they just needed everything.
03:22And look, the way the season played out, they needed every win that they got.
03:27So all of those were worth it.
03:29But there were so many nights that there was only a couple of guys that you trusted.
03:33And how often did Dan and Buck on the broadcast during the playoffs talk about the circle of
03:37trust?
03:37This is a guy that you can add to that circle of trust.
03:39And this is a guy that can save some mileage on Varland, on Garcia, on Hoffman as the year
03:46goes on.
03:47So maybe Garcia's arm doesn't fall off by the time we get to playoff time.
03:51Maybe Hoffman can be a little bit more effective and reliable with, say, one out in the bottom
03:55of the ninth of Game 7 of the World Series.
03:57Maybe just having a few of those innings that were taken up by guys that we all kind of watched
04:03through our heads a little bit, have that be more reliably taken care of, very strong
04:10thing for the Blue Jays.
04:12So just another really, really solid add to the bullpen here for Toronto.
04:17Obviously, the big topic right now for the Blue Jays is Kyle Tucker or Bo Bichette.
04:21Could it be Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette?
04:23A lot of those conversations happening.
04:25I do want to caution that the Braves signing Kim the other day, and a lot of people being
04:31like, well, takes him out of the Bo business, takes him out of the Bo Bichette business.
04:36I don't know Alex Anthopoulos personally, but he was the general manager of my team for a
04:40couple of years, and he's been a very good general manager.
04:42For the Atlanta Braves since then.
04:44Alex Anthopoulos is never out of any market.
04:47I will just put that out there.
04:48And the Braves are never out of any market.
04:49They can get very creative.
04:51They have a very well set up salary structure there in Atlanta.
04:57They are not above paying to do $20 million to sit on the bench.
05:00I'm not saying that they're going to bench the guy, but I did not see that move and think,
05:07okay, one off the board for Bo Bichette makes it a little bit more tricky.
05:12Maybe it takes away some of the motivation for Atlanta, but I don't view them as any less
05:19of a threat in the Bo Bichette business now than I did before that signing took place.
05:24But I would really love it if that market could start moving here a little bit with Tucker,
05:31Bo Bichette, and everyone else that is kind of falling into place right now.
05:34Because you are starting to see some of those other smaller moves that could have been pivots
05:38that are starting to go away a little bit.
05:40Now, the Blue Jays, again, they've done their, done what they needed to do.
05:44If the roster they have under contract right now goes into spring training this year as
05:51the team, if Tucker and Bo both just, you know what?
05:54We just, man, fucking love Colorado.
05:57So we're going there.
05:59If that happens, and the Blue Jays don't get anybody with the pitching staff they have,
06:02with the addition to the bullpen here, and with the lineup that we are going to presume
06:07maybe some regression coming from, but still, with that lineup that they have, the players
06:11that they have under contract right now, it's a playoff team, right?
06:15Obviously, our goals are a little bit higher in Toronto now after what happened, but they,
06:21as they are currently constructed, that's a playoff team in Major League Baseball in 2026.
06:26It is now just, can you get that piece that makes you championship contender in the upcoming
06:32season?
06:33We didn't think the Blue Jays would be there last year, and look how that played out,
06:35but I do think where they're at right now is fine.
06:39It's just, we're shooting for higher than fine now with the Toronto Blue Jays.
06:44But yes, more, more reactions to come on Couch Potato Diary as baseball's offseason continues
06:50to roll forward.
