Rain Capital Chenxi Wang
Transcript
00:00My name is Chenxi Wang. I'm a VC in Silicon Valley. I'm a founder and general partner at Rain Capital.
00:21We invest in early-stage cyber security and AI companies.
00:25Black AMIA is a really interesting conference because it covers a large geographic area, GCC, Africa.
00:34So there are a lot of people here and also a lot of interesting local markets.
00:39So I'm here to give a talk, to meet local security practitioners.
00:44I'm also doing a little bit work with SAMA, so here for a number of things.
00:50And what I really like is a lot of young people here are interested in cyber security.
00:56And because the economy is booming, so cyber becomes a really interesting area for growth, for investment as well.
01:05Yeah, so globally speaking, cyber security is at an interesting stage because we have AI as a new innovation.
01:16And that has disrupted a lot of traditional infrastructure, traditional systems that require new approach for cyber security.
01:26So that's one. Secondly, we see sort of bifurcation of localization, right?
01:33So we have Europe is going to build their own tech stack separate from the US.
01:39China is going off on its own.
01:42And GCC is building your own AI data center, your cloud.
01:46So we have a lot of local innovation opportunities as well as sort of global views.
01:57One of the misconceptions people have outside the field is that they think it's really difficult, cyber security.
02:04It is to some degree, but you don't have to be a computer science major.
02:10You don't have to be a tech major to be in cyber security, because we have a lot of different aspects of cyber security, including risk management, including business risks or translating technology risks into business measures.
02:26Those things require different aspects of talent.
02:30So I think many people can be in cyber security.
02:33You don't have to be a deep technical person to do work in cyber.
02:38If you're a founder, just founder in general, is talk to customers, potential customers, learn what their pain points are and see how they match up against your expertise.
02:54For founders in this region, perhaps I think they are different regulations, different specific policies for this region that are obviously interesting.
03:04But maybe, you know, spend some time in the Valley, in Silicon Valley, spend some time in US and Europe market to understand where that market is going potentially can be a leading indicator for where this market is going.
03:20We'll see you next time.
