00:00Taiwan's 2025 GDP growth is surging past previous estimates, but could drop by more
00:06than half next year. That's according to Taiwan's top research institute.
00:10The report from Academia Sinica says Taiwan's economy will grow by nearly 7.5% this year,
00:16more than double their prediction in July, attributing this to booming demand for AI
00:20hardware. But it also expects a drop to 3.7% in 2026. Researchers acknowledge that growth in
00:27Taiwan has been uneven. The report pointed to several uncertainties heading into the new year,
00:46including U.S. tariffs and a potential trade deal, the pace of economic recovery in China,
00:51and domestic labor shortages. The group also released a survey showing most Taiwanese expect
00:56overall prices to increase by nearly 9% next year. That's lower than when they pulled people last
01:02year, but still high. Concerns about energy, transportation, and food prices are especially
01:07prominent. So for 2026, the world, perhaps Taiwan most of all, will be watching to see how long this
01:13tech boom can last, and if the country can keep reaping the benefits. Scott Huang and Chris Gorin
