00:00Oh, I was proud of her.
00:04She was young, beautiful, smart.
00:07I don't think I met a soul that ever said anything bad about Ashley.
00:11And he was the fun one.
00:14Terry was selling that I'm going to take care of you and your baby.
00:18She would do anything for him.
00:22Maybe she didn't believe that it was controlling.
00:26But behind closed doors is your fact.
00:29Terry was keeping her in that cycle intentionally.
00:32Everything was red flags for me.
00:34Just in my gut.
00:35Knew it was bad news.
00:36You said somebody's chasing you with a gun?
00:40It still gives me nightmares.
00:42I'm f***ing up, I'm kidding.
00:5820-year-old Ashley Buck is on vacation with her son, her family, and partner, 36-year-old Terry Barlow.
01:15Oh, go, Terry.
01:18She was perfect.
01:19She was the best mom I've ever met.
01:21I don't think I met a soul that ever said anything bad about Ashley.
01:28She was the brains.
01:30She knew how to take care of things.
01:33And he was the fun one.
01:35Look at the camera.
01:37What are you doing?
01:39Terry always tried to make a joke, always was the funny one, always making everyone around him laugh on the outside.
01:47You're a cute mom.
01:50She was in love with him, I guess.
01:53She would do anything for him.
01:59Ashley was born in Salina, Kansas, February 15, 1984.
02:06She was my second born.
02:08I can't say that I remember it.
02:10I was one when she was born.
02:12We were pretty much inseparable.
02:15She was my best friend.
02:16That's what she was to me.
02:18She was different than Amanda.
02:20She was more of a mama's crybaby.
02:23She would cry the first day of school, up until fifth grade.
02:27And I'll never forget, when I walked her into fifth grade and she didn't cry, I went, she's growing up finally.
02:35We were really young when our parents moved us to Texas.
02:39The family settles in Corrigan, Texas, and Ashley gains two brothers and a sister.
02:46I was number four.
02:48Ashley was eight years older than me.
02:50Out of all the siblings, she was the one I think played with me the most.
02:54We grew up rough.
02:56So we kind of bonded over, we're not going to let our childhood, I guess, bring us down.
03:01We used to pick on her all the time just to get her to be like, Mom, make them stop, you know.
03:21Turn it off!
03:23She was whiny, she was whiny.
03:25Mother!
03:25But we were her siblings, especially her little ones, so of course we had to go mess with her all the time.
03:34She grew up a lot faster than I did, so I would say she was more mature than I was.
03:40Age 15, Ashley's life takes an unexpected turn.
03:44She met a guy, and she became pregnant.
03:49I was worried she might even quit school, but the school put a daycare in.
03:56After giving birth to a baby son in 1999, Ashley continues her education, getting straight A's.
04:03She got a job, she worked, she went to school.
04:06She would actually walk from the school over to the gas station where she was working, and then she'd get off, she'd go home, she'd give the baby a bath, because she'd get up, she'd go to school, and go do it all again.
04:19She was the best mom.
04:20She was super mom.
04:21I don't even know how she'd done it.
04:23She still graduated with honors.
04:26And in the summer of 2002, moves into her own apartment.
04:31It was a low-income apartment, but she was proud of it.
04:36Then one day, somebody called me, asking, where's Ashley?
04:42So I go across to her apartment, knock on the door.
04:45She's not there.
04:48She just packed up some clothes, packed up her son, and she was gone.
04:53It's like, poof, she's not here no more.
04:55I had no idea.
04:57I had no idea for months and months until she called me and said, I'm okay, mom.
05:04She was living down here in Beaumont.
05:07With Terry.
05:09Ashley moves 85 miles south to live with 34-year-old trucker Terry Barlow.
05:15She was 17 when he met her.
05:19We were like, Ashley, he's almost old enough to be your dad.
05:23What are you doing?
05:24And she was like, it's fine.
05:26It's fine.
05:26It's not that big a deal.
05:27I feel like she was looking for somebody to take care of her, and he was telling that I'm going to take care of you and your baby.
05:36She probably did want a role model for her son on her own.
05:44It was probably scary.
05:46He could have given her a little security.
05:49What's up?
05:50Yeah, I win.
05:50I think Ashley was his little trophy.
05:56His young, pretty, smart trophy.
06:00Terry always had this big camcorder.
06:08He liked to record everything.
06:11This is my house.
06:12This is the old crib.
06:15This is the inside of our house, man.
06:18It's all right.
06:20He was a truck driver.
06:22He was the breadwinner in the beginning, and Ashley was the one that stayed at home.
06:26So he did things to make a little bit of money.
06:32He liked to flaunt money, too.
06:35That's the picture of our son.
06:36Yeah.
06:37That mommy's going to take away as soon as we can figure out how to open the bag.
06:42Touchscreen.
06:44Eggs are everywhere.
06:46Just run.
06:47Just run and look.
06:48There's money everywhere.
06:50He'd be happy-go-lucky, joking, laughing, and everything.
06:53Most people just thought he was a, you know, a good guy.
06:56He's cool.
06:57You know, he's funny.
06:58He makes everybody laugh.
06:59He invites everybody over to parties.
07:02Look at this.
07:03I remember he had a very loud laugh.
07:06You could hear him from across the yard whenever he'd start laughing.
07:09I'm up.
07:10I'm telling you.
07:12They weren't like a huggy-lovey couple.
07:14They really weren't.
07:15They'd laugh and joke, and they'd have a good time together if Terry was in a good mood.
07:20But I don't remember ever seeing her kiss him.
07:22I don't remember ever seeing her hug him.
07:24It was a very, like, detached relationship.
07:28My sister did everything.
07:29My sister took care of the house, the cooking, the cleaning, everything.
07:34It wasn't long after she moved down there that she really started to put on the weight.
07:39Why do I need the big baby?
07:41Because you thick, baby.
07:42You thick.
07:42Look at all that booty.
07:44Down here in the South, being thick, that's a good thing.
07:47Or it may have been a good thing for him.
07:49I guess men like that.
07:51I'm not looking at my weight.
07:55If he was filming, he was trying to, oh, you know, oh, this is mine.
08:00Take that thing!
08:01I'm going to pump you up.
08:03Ooh!
08:04But behind closed doors is your fat.
08:07I'm like, what's zooming on me?
08:09I'm already big enough.
08:11Oh, he would always think it was funny to joke about her weight.
08:16Some of those jokes I didn't care for.
08:19Now we're in and out into the next room.
08:22A treadmill we never use.
08:24She don't never use it.
08:25Your self-esteem is most definitely going to go down if the person, you know, you're supposed
08:31to love or what have you, cause you fat.
08:33She wasn't the happy-go-lucky, giggly big sister that I remember.
08:38You could just tell she wasn't the same.
08:40She lost that spark.
08:42It wasn't until later that I found out that he had just gotten out of prison.
08:46And I pretty much got with Ashley as soon as he got out of prison.
08:51Everything was red flags for me.
08:54Just always in my gut.
08:56Knew he was bad news.
09:09When you boys send it home, in the rain, when you want to get good and thirsty, guess what
09:15you do?
09:16Get up, get some of the good meals.
09:18Go over here to the fresh cooler right here.
09:22Let me see the cooler.
09:24Terry didn't drink constantly.
09:27No, I'm not going to.
09:28But if it was weekends or especially holidays, yes.
09:36Ho, ho, ho.
09:37And he'd always put on a big show for everybody, buying all kinds of liquor and beer for everyone.
09:44And, yeah, he always wanted to make the appearance that he was more than he was.
09:48There they go.
09:49And then I found out later that he would do a lot of that, putting them in debt on credit
09:54cards so he could make everybody look like he was all that.
10:01You could tell whenever he'd get drunk that he'd get mean.
10:03First time I came down here and seen Ashley, there was a big black bruise on her arm.
10:12And I ran to her and I said, did he do this to you?
10:16And she said, oh, no, mother, he did not.
10:19She tried to say she ran into a door or something.
10:22And I just knew better.
10:23It looked like somebody had punched her in the arm.
10:26She would just look off or she would change the subject.
10:30I mean, there was no talking about what went on between them.
10:34Santa's going to come.
10:35Look for some presents with your name on it.
10:37Get out there and look.
10:39It's Christmas Day and Terry plays Santa.
10:42Get in there and get that blanket off of you and go open your presents.
10:46You're sleeping.
10:48You should have been in bed last night.
10:50Get out there.
10:50He would get more agitated.
10:52He'd start yelling and cussing and, you know, just little things would set him off.
10:58Better life time.
10:59Better not cry.
11:00Better not be bad.
11:02I'm going to bust your ass.
11:05I couldn't even go in their house without getting a sick feeling to my stomach.
11:08I'm going to bust you up.
11:10I'm going to bust you up.
11:11It's to be bad.
11:13You could feel it when you walked in the house, the anger, the evil almost.
11:18Like, you could feel it.
11:19I'm going to bust you up just to be bad.
11:23Ashley knew that whenever everybody was gone, if he was upset or angry, that he was going
11:28to hurt her.
11:30I remember she showed up at my apartment, just bloodied up.
11:35She had her stuff with her, but she wouldn't talk.
11:39She would never tell us what happened.
11:42And she stayed maybe two days with me and went back.
11:48Why didn't you leave?
11:49I can't answer that.
11:52Maybe she didn't believe that it was as controlling.
11:55And maybe she thought that was love.
11:57Maybe she didn't know the difference.
12:00Despite his controlling behavior, Ashley stays with Terry.
12:05See how fast he's going over here.
12:08Telephone.
12:083.1!
12:10Telephone.
12:11Get the phone.
12:12I know that was something she always wanted was to have the big, pretty wedding and the
12:22big, pretty dress and just to be the center of attention for a day.
12:28And he said, no, I'm never going to get married again because he had already been married and
12:32gotten a divorce.
12:33And I think that hurt Ashley, but eventually I think she accepted it.
12:38I really wanted Ashley to have a happy little family because I knew that's what she wanted.
12:43She wanted the happy little life.
12:45After eight years with Terry, Ashley has a baby girl.
12:52She's mommy's baby.
12:54Trinity.
12:55She was super happy she was having a little girl.
12:59She would call me and we would talk about T names.
13:03It had to be a name that started with T.
13:05But I used to say, why does it have to start with a T?
13:08And of course, Terry is where it came from.
13:11She was a great mom.
13:18And he doted over her.
13:23That I can honestly say was the best time of their lives that they were probably happy.
13:29Two years later, on December 15th, 2011, Ashley and Terry welcomed baby Tyson into the family.
13:41Wave at the camera.
13:42I'll let you go.
13:43Play the game.
13:45I feel like she loved him way more than she should have.
13:50He made her into the woman that takes care of the house, the woman that cooks the food,
13:57make sure the meals are on the table, washes their clothes.
14:00He expected her to do everything, but don't get upset at anything he does.
14:08She learned how to cook and I guess she liked her cooking because she did.
14:13She got big.
14:15Look at that.
14:16Terry would call her fat and you could tell it bothered her,
14:19but I think she got used to being body shamed by him.
14:23Don't do it.
14:24Don't be like that.
14:25Don't be like that, Ashley.
14:26It was like he was play poking fun, but there was an underlying meanness to it.
14:33I'm looking on a plate.
14:35I think he wanted her to feel like no one else would have her because he wanted to keep her for himself.
14:44She was so self-conscious.
14:45She gained a bunch of weight.
14:47She didn't want to go out.
14:50She couldn't go nowhere.
14:51She couldn't do anything.
14:52So she just sat at home and ate.
14:55It's going down over here.
14:58She would avoid certain chairs and stuff because she knew she couldn't fit in them.
15:02That kind of hurt me to see because that's how big she got.
15:07And she would talk about it all the time.
15:09Oh, I need to lose weight.
15:10I want to lose weight.
15:11Just wait until I'm as skinny as you are again, you know?
15:14And she did try to lose the weight, but it was hard because, like I said, she was doing everything for everybody all the time.
15:23She was just living to take care of the kids.
15:26And whatever Terry needed taken care of, that's what she did.
15:30Terry was keeping her in that cycle intentionally because as long as she wasn't happy, you know, she wasn't trying to get away.
15:38Even though she wasn't happy, she was going to stay for Trinity and Tyson.
15:46She wanted the best for them kids.
15:48She did.
15:49She wanted them to be able to do anything that they wanted to do.
15:53That's whenever she decided she was going to start going to school and stuff.
15:56Ashley got a job at the probation office, and they're the ones that got her into becoming a probation officer.
16:07So she started going to school.
16:09But she did it.
16:10She graduated with a bachelor's degree.
16:13They hired her right off the bat.
16:15She became a probation officer.
16:18To have two small children and do everything she did, oh, I was proud of her.
16:24I was very proud.
16:26She was young, beautiful, smart, everything he wasn't.
16:35She portrayed everything like everything is fine, I'm happy, living the dream, living the life.
16:42But I don't feel like that's the way it was.
16:46I think that he got her to a point where she felt that she was not good enough, not pretty, and not, you know, sexy.
16:55Then, in 2017, Ashley's world comes crashing down.
17:01She went through his phone.
17:03I think that's how she found out.
17:05He was paying for another woman's apartment and paying her bills.
17:09I thought it was disgusting because Ashley was working trying to keep them above water, and he's paying bills on a whole other household.
17:21Like, I was told, that was his woman.
17:25Ashley was just crazy baby mama.
17:28That was his choice to go off and have an affair, but somehow it always turned around, and it was Ashley's fault.
17:35Well, you made me do this, you know, and if you looked better, if you were skinnier, I would stay around.
17:41Yeah, it was always Ashley's fault.
17:42I know they fought about it, and I told her, I was like, you know he's cheating on you.
17:49And she said, yeah, I know, but I'm not giving up like that.
17:53She gave him an ultimatum of, you either leave and go with her, or you marry me.
18:03I felt like I was looking at a car crash beginning to happen.
18:06It's 2018, and Ashley gets the proposal she's been dreaming of.
18:24Ashley called me and said, I'm getting married on August 18th.
18:28And I said, what?
18:30She already had the invitations.
18:33She was just happy that she was going to get to get married.
18:35You know, something she dreamed about her whole life.
18:40I wanted to just shake her and be like, what are you doing?
18:45I just knew in my heart, that's not what you need to do.
18:49You need to leave him.
18:53Terry showed up to his wedding with sunglasses on.
18:58The night before the wedding, he was so drunk.
19:01His eyes were so bloodshot that he wore the glasses to hide the fact that he was just messed up.
19:10I thought to myself, why did she still marry him?
19:14Why?
19:16She looked very pretty, but it wasn't the happy wedding that it should have been.
19:21It felt like everybody in the whole room was watching my sister look like a fool.
19:28And I wanted to be excited for her, but I did not go to the wedding.
19:34And it's not that I didn't want to be there for Ashley.
19:37It's just that I wanted her to leave him so bad.
19:42Ashley said, well, he's taking it as if our entire life started over when we got married.
19:48But that's not the way it works.
19:53Woo!
19:54Look at this!
19:58Look at this!
19:59He got me down for his birthday.
20:01Me doing it that night!
20:05A year after getting married, Ashley and Terry go on vacation with friends to Cancun, Mexico.
20:12We got to rejuvenate the day.
20:14While they were there, one of his people told Ashley that he was having another in a pair.
20:23It was like the switch had finally flipped for Ashley.
20:27She wasn't going to be unhappy anymore, and she wasn't going to let him be the reason she was unhappy anymore.
20:33That's when she decided she was going to have the weight loss surgery, and she did.
20:38She was losing weight, and she was sticking to the diet really well.
20:43I was, like, super stoked because I was like, I can't wait to see what Ashley's going to do, you know?
20:49It was like watching a transformation, making sure she got her workout in, going to the personal trainer.
20:57So she did a complete 360.
21:00We started seeing her smile again, and I was just so happy to see Ashley back.
21:11Let me go and hit the thing right here right quick.
21:13Let me hit the thing!
21:15Terry was threatened.
21:17She would just make little remarks about how he didn't want her to go to the personal trainer.
21:22She told me, he thinks I'm still a little girl.
21:25I'm a grown woman now.
21:27So, yeah, he was threatened.
21:28And her daughter, Trinity, had a very hard time.
21:38She couldn't tell me why they were fighting.
21:41All she could tell me was that Terry held her mom down on the floor and had a gun in her mouth, and it was loaded.
21:50He had knocked Ashley over on the couch and put a gun in her mouth, and Ashley was trying to get Trinity to call 911.
22:01And he told Trinity that if you f***ing call anybody, I'm going to kill her.
22:08But again, Ashley would not tell me anything.
22:12So, Ashley probably lived in more terror than I'll ever know, because she hid it from me.
22:22In September 2021, Terry moves out.
22:27Amanda told me that Ashley's finally going to divorce Terry.
22:31I think everybody was ecstatic.
22:34She started making plans, and she was doing all the work.
22:40She found him an apartment, bought furniture for the apartment with her check, and he realized that Ashley is serious.
22:49So, she started, like, following her, like, following her around.
22:53She didn't tell me he was pulling guns on her, but from the look on her face, I knew she was scared.
23:05She said, Mom, why won't Terry leave me alone?
23:09I said, men don't go through divorce as well.
23:11They're not like women.
23:12They just can't handle it.
23:14And that's what I said.
23:16And I wished I'd have said more.
23:17Because I didn't know that was the last time I would talk to her.
23:26To escape Terry, Ashley moves in with her sister.
23:31She had moved over to Amanda's house, and she was living there with the kids.
23:36They were all planning to cook dinner, and they were making ribs.
23:41But I called Ashley, and I was like, Ashley, make sure that, you know, Mom don't mess up the ribs.
23:46Ashley had told me that she was going to pay the sports coach, and she was going to come right back.
23:55But, like, she never ended up coming back.
24:00Mama 911, where's your emergency?
24:02Ma'am, my brother-in-law just called me and told me he killed my sister.
24:06On the evening of October 23rd, 2021, a business owner called 911.
24:20Hello, 911.
24:21He observed a disturbance between one of his clients and her husband.
24:26There's a guy here with a gun at my stop.
24:28Where at?
24:29He doesn't identify him other than it's a guy with a gun chasing us around.
24:34Stop! Stop!
24:36Stop!
24:38Stop!
24:39Stop!
24:40The suspect was pointing a firearm, making verbal threats.
24:44He's chasing me with a gun!
24:46You said somebody's chasing you with a gun?
24:49Yeah, now he's back around the corner.
24:51That's a top-priority call, any type of disturbance, but especially one that we know there's a weapon involved.
25:00So, immediately, they get multiple units to respond to this location to try to catch the suspect.
25:05What does he look like, sir?
25:08His name is Terry. He's a black male, 52.
25:12Terry? Okay.
25:13Why is he chasing you with a gun, though? Because his wife was there?
25:17Yeah.
25:18Now, he's dropping off now.
25:20Multiple units are heading to that location, but within minutes, the suspect decided to return, and this is when everything went to absolute chaos.
25:38I actually hadn't been gone 25 minutes.
25:42I had my phone, like, right here, and I said, Terry.
25:46I looked at it, and something told me to answer the phone.
25:50And the first thing he said was, I shot, I shot Ashley, I shot Ashley.
25:57And that's when Amanda started calling me screaming that he killed her, that he killed Ashley.
26:04I don't know. My body just went into shock, I guess.
26:10And I told her to call 911.
26:13I am trying to get to my sister on College Street.
26:17He just told me he shot her.
26:19What's his name, ma'am?
26:21His name is Terry Barlow.
26:22After our male victim realized the coast was clear, he got back on the phone, called 911.
26:35When the responding officers arrive at the scene, they find a very distraught male victim.
26:52He was shaking, he was upset, he was clearly frightened for his life.
26:57But once he was able to compose himself, he was able to tell us that our suspect is a man by the name of Terry Barlow.
27:04All units were actively looking for this man.
27:07Our victim was Ashley Barlow.
27:11She'd had multiple gunshot wounds throughout her entire body.
27:15It was a very disturbing crime scene.
27:19When I got there, she was just laying in, like, the middle of a parking lot.
27:34And I just remember saying, why aren't y'all doing anything?
27:38Why aren't y'all doing anything?
27:40They were, like, looking at me and shaking their head.
27:44No!
27:46No!
27:49There's no words that can describe the way you feel when you pull up and see your sister or dad shot down in the middle of the street like a dog.
28:02And then Terry came back.
28:05He came back and tried to pretend like he didn't know what was going on, what happened to my wife.
28:11And Amanda lost it.
28:12Amanda tried to get to him, but the cops held her back.
28:15She started screaming, you know, that's the f***ing killed my sister.
28:19And I guess that's when they put him under arrest.
28:21When I get there, I'm able to observe the scene, observe the body.
28:27I'm advised that our suspect has been taken into custody.
28:31I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that.
28:36Patrol officers had already taped off everything with crime scene tape and had Mr. Barlow in the back of a patrol car.
28:43We start collecting evidence and taking pictures.
28:46I saw numerous shell casings everywhere.
28:49There was a .38 and a .40 caliber.
28:52We knew there was at least two different handguns, but they were not there.
28:57There was also a GPS tracker that was laying next to her, which was odd.
29:04Where she was hit was very close range, front of her face and her chest.
29:08I knew right away this wasn't just something that got out of hand, a sudden passion type deal.
29:14This was somebody that was exacting their violence in a very personal way.
29:21We were unable to find any handguns there, but we did notice one of the businesses did have cameras.
29:27Their video had audio.
29:30We were able to hear everything from the first disturbance to when the actual homicide took place.
29:36He chases down his wife as she's absolutely begging for her life.
29:54He takes her out and shoots her multiple times.
29:57And then has the audacity to tell her it's her fault.
30:01Look what you've made me do.
30:06I have not seen anything so cold-blooded.
30:08And as she's laying there, mortally wounded, continues to fire on her.
30:14He executed me.
30:18That was horrible.
30:20Cold-blooded killer.
30:23At that moment, Terry's in the back of a patrol car.
30:26You just got to clear any personal biases of what you just saw.
30:29And you got to give him a fair shot as well of telling you his side of it.
30:34You know, be Detective Sergeant Barrero, not Yvette Barrero, the person that just is enraged.
30:43Hey, Mr. Barlow.
30:44Yes, ma'am.
30:45My name is Sergeant Barrero with the Beaumont Police Department.
30:49Obviously, you know what you've done here tonight.
30:52I wanted to let him know that I was willing to listen to what he had to say, even though I'd seen the footage.
31:04I know, baby.
31:05It's going to be all right.
31:07I love my wife.
31:08It was vital that I reach out to him so that I could build some sort of rapport with him so that he would feel comfortable in telling me what led up to this horrific act.
31:19We all mess up in life.
31:22The most important thing going forward here is to make this right.
31:26We just wanted to know what happened that night, and we needed him to do that.
31:31Our main goal is what happened, what led up to this, and especially what did he do with the weapon.
31:46Terry Barlow is interviewed by detectives after fatally shooting Ashley.
31:52Me and my wife, we've been fussing while I come home from work.
31:57And she said that she wanted a divorce.
32:02Okay.
32:02After 20 years, you ain't going to tell me why.
32:06And she said she just needs space.
32:10So I say, okay, if you need space and we're going to work on this, I'll move.
32:19By the time we got to the station, I'd learned that he had placed a tracker on her car and that he'd been following her and knowing every step she took.
32:28I bought this tracker and I put it on the car.
32:31Today, it popped up.
32:35And I said to myself, I'm going to go over here, find out what's going on.
32:43It didn't go right.
32:44Terry was mad and upset that Ashley was standing there talking to another male subject.
32:49He pulls up, he gets out, he confronts Ashley, and he doesn't remember what happened next.
32:55She would want me to turn myself in and do the right thing.
33:01He's telling us he wants to do the right thing.
33:04I just wasn't believing it.
33:06Terry, I know you said that you knew that you had hurt her.
33:11Did you know when you left how severe it was?
33:14I'm thinking, man, you really are a callous, evil, selfish person for doing what you just did, but making this all about you.
33:26Did you think about calling 911 to get her some help?
33:30I didn't know what I had done.
33:32I just noticed she needed me.
33:34She needed me.
33:35And I was going back because she needed me.
33:37He's telling us that he's messed up.
33:40But when we get down to the brass tacks of it, you know, what did you do with the weapons, then all of a sudden he has memory losses.
33:47So you dumped the 380 over there off Laurel.
33:50Did you do the same with the 40?
33:51I don't remember, ma'am.
33:53Once I got going, all I started thinking about was my kids.
33:57He has no idea we have video footage of the homicide and how brutal it was.
34:03That just goes to show the type of monster he really was.
34:08Do you think you might have tossed it out the window?
34:10I don't remember, and it's killing me because I don't want nobody to get there and hurt somebody else.
34:18It's like he wanted us to know almost everything except the part where he's the most guilty.
34:23And not helping us find the weapon, everything that he was doing that night was trying to set up for his defense.
34:32You're under arrest for the murder of your wife and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
34:39So when he's arrested that night, he's transported to Jefferson County Jail.
34:44And the following morning, he was arraigned by a judge for the charge of murder.
34:50We have video that shows the murder.
34:52We have a GPS tracker.
34:55We have shell casings.
34:57What we don't have is the actual murder weapons.
35:00And we know there's at least two because we found two different shell casings.
35:07Hey, I found the gun.
35:11And it matches up with what y'all said.
35:14It's a Smith & Wesson single stack 380.
35:17So the night of the incident, we are able to locate one of the weapons.
35:22We were able to take that into custody.
35:24I mean, that's solid evidence.
35:26But we still needed to find the second weapon.
35:28Two days later, police received footage from a second surveillance camera.
35:38This video was absolutely the nail in his coffin, so to speak, because this angle was directly in front.
35:46When you put the two videos together and you hear the audio from this one and then what's actually occurring, it still gives me nightmares.
35:54You could just see the pure evil in his intents, in his actions.
36:04We see how he shot her point blank.
36:11She pled for her life and could not do anything.
36:15He reloaded, exchanged weapons, and we now see him, the pure malice and evil, snuff her life out.
36:28He tried to say at one point she reached for the weapon.
36:31He didn't remember how many times he shot.
36:35He didn't remember what he did with the weapon.
36:37This video shows us that everything he was saying was completely made up.
36:43The autopsy confirms two different guns were used to kill Ashley.
36:49That just kept us really laser focused on trying to track down that second weapon.
36:55And we weren't going to give up.
36:57I don't know how many times I walked around there looking and crawling in ditches.
37:02Fortunately for us, we got some divine intervention.
37:06A homeowner doing yard work discovers the second gun.
37:10The second weapon that we recovered was a .40 automatic Smith & Wesson.
37:16Later testing showed that it matched the shell casings that was used in Ashley's homicide.
37:21So, we finally found Terry's gun.
37:24So, there was no doubt that this was an execution.
37:28He brought multiple weapons to carry out this hatred.
37:32Prosecutor Phillip Smith is assigned to the case.
37:36I worked in the 252nd District Court.
37:39Ashley was the probation officer in the courtroom next door.
37:42So, everybody is understandably upset that one of our own has been taken in this manner.
37:51In this case, we were fortunate to have high-resolution video from across the street.
37:56The evidence had been gathered.
37:58The police had done a great job.
37:59We had all the evidence in the world to show that he was guilty.
38:03Terry enters a plea deal and sentencing begins.
38:08He tried to put blame on Ashley for why he did it.
38:14He had a gun, but she was reaching for the gun in his pocket.
38:18The video showed that was not true.
38:20She was, in fact, running away from him when he takes the gun out and starts shooting at her.
38:26He's also putting blame on a deceased person for making him do it.
38:33And that, that's telling. That's a narcissist.
38:37To sit there on the stand, to me, was disgusting.
38:42Listening to him try to make excuses for what he'd done.
38:47Terry pleads guilty to Ashley's murder and the aggravated assault of the sports coach.
38:52He's sentenced to 50 years.
38:55That basically means he'll never see the light of day again.
38:58You know, he'll see his judgment one day and he'll have to account for that.
39:02It'll be far worse than what happens here on Earth.
39:05I think the world is a better place with Terry Barlow in prison.
39:10The only time I want to hear that man's name is whenever it's in an obituary.
39:14I felt like Terry stole Ashley a long time ago.
39:18You know, everybody else talks about losing Ashley the day she died.
39:28But I lost Ashley when Terry took her.
39:31I think she thought I was stronger than her.
39:38And I wasn't.
39:41She was strong.
39:45She was, she was so strong.
39:48And she endured so much.
39:51And she still continued to take care of her kids.
39:54She was a good mom.
39:56I want Ashley to be remembered as the kind person that she was.
40:03I want the kids to remember what a great mother she really was to them.
40:09Because I hope it never fades from their memory.
40:12I want Ashley to be remembered for her perseverance.
40:16That you can have just the most horrible things happen to you.
40:23But you can still stand up and grow and be a beautiful person.
40:27I think she won in the end.
40:29I do.
40:30I think she won that battle in the end.
40:32Because she got what she wanted.
40:34She did not want her kids raised with him.
40:36And that's, that's what happened.
40:38She's not raising them kids.
40:41It's never going to ever be over.
40:44Because she was my baby.
40:45She was my daughter.
40:47That I raised and was so proud of.
41:08They look like a very, very happy couple.
41:11She loved him.
41:12I could tell.
41:13He was going to be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
41:17Appearances can be deceiving.
41:18No one knew what a monster he was.
41:20He was?
41:21He was the most professional.
41:22He was part of his home and was the best to be the best?
41:23And I could tell.
41:24I could tell.
41:25I've never heard of him.
41:26He killed him.
41:27I could tell.
41:28I could tell.
41:29I could tell.
41:30He could tell.
