00:01Surf, sand, waves, and tides.
00:04For people all around the world,
00:06the coastal dream is just to move away.
00:17It is kind of crazy that we're doing this
00:19with a nine-week-old baby.
00:20I mean, I feel like I literally just left the hospital.
00:24Things are gonna be a little crazy for a little bit.
00:26Yeah. I'm Ashley.
00:27And I'm Dylan.
00:28We've been together for about seven or eight years now,
00:30married for four.
00:32And now we're looking for that dream oceanfront home.
00:36We met online.
00:37We really thought it was gonna be a one-time, one-date thing.
00:40I'm just this country bumpkin
00:42from out here on the East Coast,
00:43and I had never actually been on a date
00:45with someone from Toronto before.
00:48It was new, it was cool.
00:49And I trapped you immediately.
00:51And she trapped me immediately.
00:53Now we're married.

00:57our son's name is Itai.
01:00In Shona language, Itai means do your thing.
01:02And if you know my husband, it's perfect.
01:07So I grew up in New Brunswick on the Bay of Fundy.
01:10And I'm all about the water,
01:11the crabbing and the fishing
01:13and the beachcombing for sea glass.
01:16So I have a 22-foot sailboat,
01:20kind of my pride and joy until my-
01:22Other than our baby.
01:23Until my baby came along.
01:24And but anyway, he'll be my little sailor.
01:28We live in a condo right now in Halifax.
01:30It doesn't work for us anymore
01:32because we need some more space.
01:33And now that we have a baby,
01:35we really want to make sure that we're planting down roots
01:37here in Nova Scotia.
01:38Living on the water was a dream.
01:40It was not possible for me in the city in Toronto.
01:43And then the minute I moved out here,
01:45it was all of a sudden there's all these possibilities.
01:47That's why we need a house on the water
01:49so that he can get out there, be on the water,
01:52and I can have a cocktail and a floaty.
01:54The wish list for the new house is,
01:57I would really like a nice view with a beautiful deck.
02:00I just want a place that after work,
02:02I can come home, have a glass of wine on my deck,
02:04overlooking the water.
02:05Three bedrooms, two bathrooms if possible.
02:08I'd like to have one or two more children.
02:10And then we also need like a guest room
02:12for people when they come visit.
02:13Be nice to have a big kitchen,
02:15be able to host our friends and our family.
02:18I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to my clothing.
02:21So I do need a lot of closet space.
02:24I'd love a place where I can put my boat,
02:26having sort of a boathouse or a shed
02:29or something to store all the toys.
02:32We'd love to be 30 minutes from the city
02:34so that we can both get to work
02:36within a reasonable amount of time.
02:39The more green space, the better would be ideal too.
02:43Being close to the water,
02:45but also having a bit of space.
02:48So you want it all.
02:49You've got to have it all.
02:50I want it all too, I agree.
02:54Our budget's around $650,000, I would say, right?
02:59Yeah, I think we just want to make sure
03:00we still have, you know, money left over to shop,
03:03go to lunch, go to dinner.
03:07We have a baby.
03:08We need to get the baby settled.
03:10So something that we can move into
03:12and just start living our lives immediately
03:13would be ideal.
03:15The sooner we find that house,
03:16the sooner we can move in
03:17the sooner we can get doing the stuff we want to do.

03:39So I think we might have our work cut out for us here.

03:54that's looking for a mixture of outdoors

16:56the deck there uh when you're finished having a look okay perfect okay wow these stairs are a bit
17:03dangerous i will say oh but wow there's a sauna down here that's unexpected
17:11okay and this space is just an open empty basement a bit of an open canvas but having the the bathroom
17:20down here does make it more of a livable space yeah and at the end of the day i would love for
17:26people to be able to come visit and just have their own place to come to and not be on the same
17:31floor as all of us i agree yeah we have a lot to consider yeah um but uh why don't we just go meet
17:37up with riley on the deck yeah oh wow i just love it out here yeah so i mean at 6 39 you know getting
17:45kind of close to your guys budget what do you guys think about this place so this house looks like it's
17:49turning into a lot of work and i think a lot of work is turning into a lot of money it's just a lot of
17:54factors to think about when when kind of deciding what we're gonna settle on all right sounds great

18:04decision to to pick one yeah i can't believe how far we've come like we met eight years ago now and
18:13look where we are i'm looking for our forever home in nova scotia i never imagined doing this with a
18:18newborn either so let's start with house one cozy cove three bedrooms but i mean it was pretty tight
18:27in there very small yeah it was tight i think we really would need to take room from the dining room
18:33there to extend the kitchen one small bathroom just isn't gonna cut and where am i gonna bath yeah
18:39not in there i don't think this house is 589 000 which is under budget but with that house is gonna
18:47come with a lot of renovations to do yeah let's talk about the second house that we saw that had
18:54the amazing bay view it was gorgeous i mean that house was absolutely stunning at 6.99 it was a bit
19:01over our budget it has everything we asked for like it is perfect it's three bedrooms big bedrooms two
19:09bathrooms that garage was huge i mean it's your dream to have a garage like that but that 40 minute two
19:16and from work you know something consider something that's a little bit closer so if you want to maybe
19:22go over our pros and cons from the treehouse i personally love how close that is to the city but
19:27i do know there would be a lot of renovations to do in that house as well and there was kind of that
19:32death trap of spiral staircase inside yeah the spiral staircase is not ideal with that house coming in at
19:386 39 it would be able to change the stairs immediately and then do everything else over time
19:44i think i know which house i want to raise our son in and i think i know which house i can see our
19:49family growing okay so we're doing it we're doing it amazing
19:57wow we are now the proud new owners of the tree house we're so excited we knew it was our dream house
20:04when we saw it we love the views we love how close we are to the city it's really just the perfect house
20:10for us yeah the listing price was 639 000 and we actually came in asking we wanted a quick closing
20:17and having the baby we knew we needed a place to move in really quickly and get our lives going
20:25we've gone to ty's nursery set up and it's so beautiful we're so happy to watch him grow up in
20:30that space we take really long walks with the baby and it's been really great to get to know people in
20:36this community and i ended up making friends with uh a neighbor directly across the road uh who owns
20:43a dock and has been so gracious to let me park the boat at his place this is going to be a nice
20:49afternoon never thought that city girl would be living with country boy and living in nova scotia but
20:57it's not a hard place to land to our first real house together and to our little one who makes it feel
21:02like a home
