00:02:54LSD and something called flower power. In short, the love generation wishes to
00:03:00share its ways of living a peaceful life with the rest of the world, and this is
00:03:04like it is. You drop out in your mind and start showing signs physically of
00:03:11getting away like your hair gets longer, start wearing what you want to wear,
00:03:16freaky clothes or not, whatever you feel like you should wear, that's what you
00:03:20wear. If you can make it, that's that's beautiful. If you can't make it, you're not
00:03:24really with it. If you're with your trip, you'll make it in society or out of it.
00:03:28How do I feel about money? I love it for what it does, but I hate it for what it
00:03:33does. It's a fantastic tool and that's all it is, but people worship it and that's
00:03:38awful. It is a tool and it shouldn't be a god. People reverse that. They use
00:03:44themselves as the tool and money is their god. I think Catholic fun is, you know,
00:03:48blowing the joints and hiding from the cops and shit. They try and bust every
00:03:52group because they're trying to get the groups out because the groups are
00:03:54promoting it. You walk down the street there, everybody knew everybody and if
00:03:58they didn't know you, they'd patch you on the head or something anyway. Everyone
00:04:01knew what everyone else was into. Especially on the hate, the apartments had
00:04:04like numbers and you never said anybody's name. You said 704, 738 hate. That's what
00:04:10they're doing there. Where are you from? Colonies and apartment houses. Everyone who lived there
00:04:15knew everyone else. Are we allowed to mention drugs? Beautiful drugs. Everyone
00:04:19gave everyone else drugs. Nothing. We never paid for anything really. Dealing was a beautiful
00:04:24experience because at Christmas time, everybody had what they wanted. Everybody
00:04:28gave everything away. Like a dime of hash was almost as big as, much bigger than it
00:04:34should have been. Anytime anybody bought a lot of acid to sell, everybody would turn on
00:04:39money first. And then all you do is just make your money back and that was it. There
00:04:43was like really no money involved. People say that, you know, what happens if you're mad
00:04:48and you smoke it and you go out and kill somebody? I can't see that. People ask me this, you know.
00:04:52That is so funny. How can you do that when you're sitting there? I don't know if I'm going to say that's right.
00:04:56Just stoned so much. I can tell you, whenever we wanted the house cleared out and hey, this guy,
00:05:02Cat Rick, was living there. Like there were original people that always lived there and then there were changing people who came in and out every night.
00:05:07Whenever he wanted the house cleared out, he'd come stomping up the stairs and he's like,
00:05:12I was just down at the health department. They're coming to check for VD. And everybody split.
00:05:15And the house would be cleared out in five minutes. There was nobody there. They'd pack up and leave so fast.
00:05:22Because everybody had collapsed. Once I was in Vermont and there was a colony up there and group gropes
00:05:27in the attic every night, you know, just keep running from bed to bed, going to the next bed. And the health
00:05:32department came marching up. Everybody on the whole place that was living in the main house had it.
00:05:37And had had it for months and kept giving it to each other again and again. And it really got to be a drag.
00:05:42There's a lot of it going. And nobody tells anybody till it's over. One cat living with us was total fetishist.
00:05:49Unbelievable fetishist. I would be sleeping and my room was next to the bathroom. He had to walk in the bathroom to get through.
00:05:55He used to plug up my nose with toilet paper when I was asleep, put wet toilet paper in my ears, rub sand on your cheek and then hide under the bed so you'd wake up and not know what was happening.
00:06:03Nobody ever said to me, Richard is weird. Hey, Richard, what was happening? He said, did you feel anything strange last night?
00:06:09Did you feel any funny sensations? He'd say this to me after doing the whole riff at night. Nobody ever said, wow, Richard, you're really fun.
00:06:15Let Richard do what he wants. He'd come up to me and say, do you squat a lot?
00:06:18The first time he came down here a couple of weeks ago, the first thing he said to me, hey, you're still squatting, Tim.
00:06:24This is where he was at, but nobody cared. This is fine. You're doing it. And as a result, he did what he wanted and was happy.
00:06:32I dig watermelon. Wow. In New York, we used to go down to the fruit stand and there was this cat named Sidney.
00:06:39He'd come in with watermelons and like three weeks later, you'd find a watermelon under the chair that you didn't know was there.
00:06:44But we used to like take watermelons and go like right down your body and it doesn't get stinky for a while.
00:06:51It just gets really cold and beautiful.
00:06:54Sex is beautiful, but like, it's not really sex, it's love. You know, when you get into sex, you know, sex means something different to me than what I do.
00:07:05You know, whenever I have a thing with a cat, it's love. It doesn't mean that it's going to last for more than, you know, an hour.
00:07:12But it's groovy and I wouldn't be doing it if, you know, I didn't dig it. It's beautiful. But it's only, you know, depending on the people.
00:07:21You know, if they're digging it, that's beautiful. They should be doing it. But if it's just something to do or it's something like, you know,
00:07:27everybody gets in the room and looks at each other and says, well, what are we going to do? You know?
00:07:32And, you know, everybody starts, you know, playing their little games and all of a sudden it lands on the floor.
00:07:37Well, you know, if they're digging it, that's cool. But it has to be more than just something to do.
00:07:43It has to be, you know, something everyone wants to do.
00:07:46They took 12 of us in on a roach. To get out of it, the lawyer said to me, well, you go up to Berkeley,
00:07:52sign into a hospital on acid, tell them we were freaking, and they put us in. You go on a 15-day plan and get out.
00:07:59And we had a good time. There was a lot of freaks in there. It was beautiful.
00:08:03I saw where I was. About three girls, 15, 16, completely not schizophrenic into their little dream worlds.
00:08:12I know the mommas and the papas. I know this. I know that. Hero worship. Complete fantasy.
00:08:18And they came in on acid. And they never tried it.
00:08:21Because I talked to them. They didn't know what was happening with acid. They never even smoked.
00:08:25But I took acid, and it drove me crazy, and I'm in here now, and I can't get out.
00:08:29That's why I'm here. Like, I was groovy, and look what happened. The crutch.
00:08:34I would say that half the kids that come in sick to those hospitals had nothing to do with it.
00:08:39Possibly speed. Speed could run you down.
00:08:41Yeah.
00:08:42So a lot of housewives are on speed in there.
00:08:45These crimes are here about that lady that just killed a little kid in Denver.
00:08:49Right.
00:08:50Did it on acid. I would bet that acid had nothing to do with it.
00:08:54Something bad in there, but acid can't do that.
00:08:56See, that's what, like, when you're talking to anyone straight, that you have to go into it.
00:09:00To talk about one incident that happened, you have to go into an hour's conversation to explain it to them that it wasn't actually acid.
00:09:07It was like, if it was acid, it was bad. Acid meaning that, you know, it had a lot of speed in it, or it's this acid that's going around that is getting people sick.
00:09:15You have to defend it, and it doesn't need defense.
00:09:17Yeah.
00:09:18In the hate, I was living on the streets for a week. I mean, meeting the real freaks.
00:09:23Because those are the people that are really freaked, and I'm little kids shooting.
00:09:27I help take a chick up, shoot her up, sleep with her.
00:09:31The next morning, you don't see him again. She keeps going on with another one just to get fed, just need some speed.
00:09:36When the sun was out, it was like cycles of the day. When the sun was out, everybody was on the street happy, beautiful.
00:09:42And you'd feel the panic as it got later in the day.
00:09:46When the night came on, I could go home. I could go to my bed.
00:09:50And there'd be like 12 people in the living room I never saw before, but it didn't matter.
00:09:54You know, I had a bed, and they had a bed, and it was okay.
00:09:57But I knew where those street people were going.
00:10:00They'd be around to like 12, and then they'd go down to the front, the store front that the diggers had.
00:10:06Which was a complete freak show that could blow your mind. It was so sad.
00:10:10And at times happy, but most of the time, you know, a lot of people had just hitched in from New York, didn't know what was happening.
00:10:16Smashed out of their minds on drugs. Not being able to function. Everybody was sort of laughing, and then just looking scared.
00:10:21You know, everybody would pick up the vibes and be bad. Like I knew where they were going.
00:10:26I knew it was a bum trip, and they'd stop laughing, you know, when the sun went down.
00:10:29Then around 3 in the morning, all you'd see was speeds.
00:10:32This guy Hun, he's another brilliant, totally brilliant.
00:10:36Completely spaced, no balance, trips all the time. Can't stand up straight.
00:10:40He'd step over his body for three days on the floor, you know, he wasn't even in it.
00:10:43He was gone somewhere, and then he'd get up and walk out and come back and fall out again for three more days.
00:10:48We were totally broke at one time, and we had $5 left, and he goes out and spends the last $5 we had on beads,
00:10:54because we thought they were pretty, to bring back to us.
00:10:57So we had the beads, and we started going to antique stores, asking them for, you know, unmatched beads.
00:11:03Could they give them to us? And they did.
00:11:05And we came out with tremendous beads like you never saw before, and started making trippy things out of them.
00:11:11We took telephone wire and made dragons. Somebody knew how to weave.
00:11:15We had a beautiful thing going. Most of the head shops would take them.
00:11:20But it was your thing, you know, it was your necklace, and you hated to give it up when you finished it.
00:11:24You go to see it in the window every day.
00:11:26You'll find what people think. There's a lot of sensualism in nudism.
00:11:30A lot of, like, excitement. And you'll find when you get down to the real thing, it's not exciting at all.
00:11:37You'll find it pretty disillusioning in that way. You'll find you haven't got any clothes, you haven't got anything to depend on.
00:11:44You have no other face. You've got your face. You've got your head. No other head, no other face.
00:11:50And it's pretty hard to even do a wrap when you're not clothed.
00:11:55You'll be surprised. You can't put on a thing when you have no clothes on somehow. You just can't really do it.
00:12:02It's a beautiful thing. On a sexual basis, you'll find much deeper sex relations.
00:12:07You won't find anybody looking at anybody else and getting hot.
00:12:12It's more a quiet thing where, this time, because swimming without any clothes on is a trip.
00:12:19Doing anything without any clothes on is a complete trip.
00:12:22Once we took, we got it to a raft and put two bottles of Lux liquid in it, and 20 people got in.
00:12:28And we put a little water in. Nobody had any clothes on, and we slid three hours over each other, under each other.
00:12:34And the whole pond was filled with suds. We had a beautiful, beautiful trip.
00:12:39That's all.
00:12:43You can't go.
00:12:45Just to show you.
00:12:47You can't go.
00:12:49You can't go.
00:12:51You can't go.
00:12:52You can't go.
00:12:53You can't go.
00:12:56You can't go.
00:12:59You can't go.
00:13:01You can't go.
00:13:03It's all the time.
00:13:04Well, we'll find your passer.
00:13:07Religion is based on a belief in God, and through that belief they've learned to fear God.
00:13:16They don't even know Him. Not through religion they couldn't get to know God,
00:13:20because through religion you look at God as being someone sitting up there watching what's going on,
00:13:27and I don't believe God to be that. I believe that God is all, God is everybody.
00:13:32The basic truth in all religion is correct, but the way it's taught is all wrong.
00:13:38I think youth of today believe in living today.
00:13:43Now if that's a religious concept, then that is, in essence, I think what they're thinking about.
00:13:50Everybody should be together, just one big community of, you know, people really having a good time
00:13:55instead of wasting their lives away in the future, which the world ain't got much longer to go anyway.
00:14:01Now you can feel it in the air. I mean, just look around, look at the buildings, look at the people.
00:14:05How come they're all on bummers, you know?
00:14:07People, they're all on constant bummers. Nobody smiles anymore.
00:14:10They just, you know, walk around, work eight hours a day, go home, hear their wife bitching, you know.
00:14:15Kids drive them nuts. I mean, you know, that ain't a way to spend your life.
00:14:18Why not have a good time, you know, enjoy life instead of wasting it away?
00:14:22I don't think dropping out means copying out to drugs, you know.
00:14:27Having to drop out, having to get away from society with drugs.
00:14:32Drugs are not the answer and drugs are not the real way of dropping out.
00:14:37Sometimes they can be a catalyst to make you slow down.
00:14:41You get stoned. You, um, you suddenly go,
00:14:46Well, you know, I've got a few minutes to think about things.
00:14:49I'm stoned. I think about them a little bit more, clearer and slower.
00:14:53And, uh, so you drop out.
00:14:55And from there on, it's a matter of where your mind goes.
00:15:00Because if your mind goes one way with a drug dependence thing,
00:15:05then you might, you're just, you're like the alcoholic, you know.
00:15:09The effects of acid are quite a bit more than grass.
00:15:14See, the first effect that you get from acid,
00:15:17the first time you take acid, usually you get a hallucination,
00:15:20an hallucinatory effect.
00:15:22Uh, there are a lot of people that take acid 10, 12, 15 times,
00:15:27that all they get is an hallucinatory effect.
00:15:31They don't go beyond that hallucinatory effect.
00:15:33And there definitely is something beyond it.
00:15:36It's a turning on of the body to the body and to what's out there.
00:15:41And when the body is more tuned to what's out there,
00:15:44then you're more tuned to your thing.
00:15:46Acid doesn't do this.
00:15:48It doesn't, uh, it's not the only way.
00:15:51It's just a catalyst.
00:15:53I speak of drugs.
00:15:54I don't speak of the body drugs, heroin or, uh, or methadrine.
00:15:58Very few of the really turned on people that I know of use them.
00:16:02There should be no mystique around drugs.
00:16:06All the mystique that is around drugs is induced by having to hide it,
00:16:12having to, uh, uh, be cool about it,
00:16:15with, uh, where people who don't understand drugs are.
00:16:19That's where the mystique has arisen.
00:16:22Because it's a natural thing.
00:16:24Drugs are a very natural thing.
00:16:25They were put here by God.
00:16:27All the elements were, were made by God.
00:16:30Man has taken man to put them together.
00:16:32And man has put other things together for our use.
00:16:35And it's all God given.
00:16:37It's just, uh, that some of them are groovier than others.
00:16:41You go on a heavy mystique trip with drugs, uh, you become a slave to them.
00:16:47Because a lot of people get heavy behind the trip that drugs and religion are the same.
00:16:53Drugs, acid, it's not a religious thing.
00:16:58A lot of people are putting it on a religious level.
00:17:01Let's, uh, let's take it as the holy sacrament to our new religion.
00:17:05Um, why?
00:17:08Why not just, you know, let, let it be around.
00:17:12It's a natural thing.
00:17:13It shouldn't be a religious thing.
00:17:14You're making the mystique even greater.
00:17:16You're making it so that the average man, uh, says,
00:17:19Wow, if I'm gonna, to, to turn on, I'll have to take the acid.
00:17:23Okay.
00:17:24This is what he's thinking.
00:17:25He says, well, now I'm taking the sacrament of a religion
00:17:28that maybe I don't even want to have anything to do with.
00:17:30This leak, uh, leak for spiritual discovery.
00:17:33All these, uh, new religions.
00:17:35Um, I don't, I'm not a religious person.
00:17:38I don't, when it's just a religious drug, I don't want anything to do with it.
00:17:41And he, uh, shies away from it.
00:17:43But if he would think of it as being a natural, uh, normal,
00:17:48thing that's available to him that could really help his mind,
00:17:54really work on his mind,
00:17:56then he probably would take it a lot quicker.
00:17:58A whole total trip that, uh, you can't deny.
00:18:02You really can.
00:18:04Be it God, be it Buddha, whatever, it's, it's death.
00:18:18To be able to keep...
00:18:32Oh, my God.
00:19:02Oh, my God.
00:19:32Oh, my God.
00:20:02Oh, my God.
00:20:32Oh, my God.
00:21:02Oh, my God.
00:21:32Oh, my God.
00:22:02Oh, my God.
00:22:32Oh, my God.
00:23:02Oh, my God.
00:23:32Oh, my God.
00:24:02Oh, my God.
00:24:32Oh, my God.
00:25:02Oh, my God.
00:25:32Oh, my God.
00:26:02Oh, my God.
00:26:32Oh, my God.
00:27:02Oh, my God.
00:27:32Oh, my God.
00:28:02Oh, my God.
00:28:32Oh, my God.
00:29:02Oh, my God.
00:29:32Oh, my God.
00:30:02Oh, my God.
00:30:32Oh, my God.
00:31:02Oh, my God.
00:31:32Oh, my God.
00:32:02Oh, my God.
00:32:32Oh, my God.
00:33:02Oh, my God.
00:33:32Oh, my God.
00:34:02Oh, my God.
00:34:32Oh, my God.
00:35:02Oh, my God.
00:35:32Oh, my God.
00:36:02Oh, my God.
00:36:32Oh, my God.
00:37:02Oh, my God.
00:37:32Oh, my God.
00:38:02Oh, my God.
00:38:32Oh, my God.
00:39:02Oh, my God.
00:39:32Oh, my God.
00:40:02Oh, my God.
00:40:32Oh, my God.
00:41:02Oh, my God.
00:41:32Oh, my God.
00:42:02Oh, my God.
00:42:32Oh, my God.
00:43:02Oh, my God.
00:43:32Oh, my God.
00:44:02Oh, my God.
00:44:32Oh, my God.
00:45:02Oh, my God.
00:45:32Oh, my God.
00:46:02Oh, my God.
00:46:32Oh, my God.
00:47:02Oh, my God.
00:47:32Oh, my God.
00:48:02Oh, my God.
00:48:32Oh, my God.
00:49:02Oh, my God.
