Transcript
00:00It's going through one of the worst times in my life. And I picked up Interview with a Vampire
00:06and I started reading. And it was like Anne reached out to me and said, you are okay.
00:16How beautiful. Fans of Anne Rice are getting the moment they have been waiting for. A chance to
00:20properly say goodbye. Readers, artists, and devoted followers gathered in New Orleans to
00:24honor the iconic author whose storytelling shaped generations even four years after her passing.
00:29The event was produced by her son, Christopher Rice, and Anne's friend, Eric Shaw Quinn. And
00:33they're here to talk about this special project with fans all over the world. I'm so excited to
00:37have you guys in this morning. Thank you so much for having us. Yeah, this is so beautiful. I mean,
00:41obviously, I'm from New Orleans. So when I heard that we wanted to celebrate Anne Rice, I said,
00:44absolutely, we have to. But what's amazing is your mother was revered all over the world.
00:48She really was. And one of the reasons it took us four years to do this event is that
00:52millions of people were interested in at least seeing it, if not attending in person. So
00:56we knew we had to make it good. No, this is great. And I hear that you guys did make it good. You
01:00shot the event in New Orleans and there will soon be a chance for everyone to watch it. Tell us about
01:04the event. Well, the event, 1,500 Anne Rice fans filled the Orpheum Theater with love and we got it
01:09all on film. And we promised the fans from the beginning that we were going to share this
01:13celebration with them in a way they weren't going to have to pay for. So Thanksgiving week, if all goes
01:17according to plan and is looking good, we're going to upload the complete event film, including the
01:22documentaries we made for it to Anne Rice.com and it will be there for free. This is amazing. And it
01:27captures the entire event so that from the perspective of the audience, so that it'll be
01:32like you got to attend the event. Yes. Right from the lobby, right onto the stage and every experience
01:39that the people have in the audience, you can have right in the comfort of your own home
01:42with leftovers. Isn't that the great part? He's our director of branding, his dinner partners,
01:48our production company. Yeah. I feel like any conversation about New Orleans soup, we're going
01:51to include food. We need a meal plan. Absolutely. Absolutely. And where he went to high school,
01:55which I already asked you. Yeah, he already did. That's a New Orleans thing. Okay. So you guys
01:58worked on this for four years. We played a little bit of your interview there. You interviewed people.
02:02You pulled some of Anne's old interviews. Tell us about the process here. This was a years long process.
02:07We hired a wonderful production company to work with our production company, Dinner Partners,
02:10now and then. And we gave them 2,000 photographs to scan. In fact, we just showed them to a room in
02:15my mother's old house. And we said, we don't know what's in these boxes. You could find something to
02:19blackmail us with. Please don't. That's probably in your contract that you're not allowed to do that.
02:23Right, right, right. And so all this wallpaper of wonderful, beautiful archival material came out of
02:29those boxes. And we use that to tell the story of Anne. And it was really Eric who zeroed in on the
02:33theme of Anne's life, which is she turned the worst thing that ever happened to her into the best thing that
02:38ever happened to her, which was the death of her daughter that inspired the novel Interview with the
02:41Vampire, which turns 50 next year, by the way. Oh, my goodness. That is absolutely amazing. And how iconic. It
02:46touched so many people's lives. I understand she has some unfinished, unpublished works that you guys are
02:51going to do something with? A lot of boxes. I'll put it that way. A lot of plastic tubs, a lot of boxes. All of the
02:57Anne's legacy is now at Dinner Partners. Yes, our production company. One of the things we are looking forward to
03:02doing now that we have done our due diligence to the fans and have the celebration of life is to begin
03:09going through, combing through what's there and to find all of those gems that we can bring to the world.
03:15Oh, and I'm sure there's so many. I know that's very exciting news for fans. Okay, so how can we watch the event?
03:19So next week, Thanksgiving week, it will go live at AnneRice.com. And it will not be hard to find. It will
03:25not be hard to open. And you will not have to pay to see it. It will be right there with an embedded Vimeo
03:29player for everyone in the world. No restrictions of any kind. You put in your email address and
03:34off you go. That's it. That's all we ask. What an iconic woman. Well, again, I'm very sorry for the
03:38loss of your mother, but what a beautiful legacy she leaves behind. And I know it has the meaning
03:41to the world to you for millions to come up to you saying what your mom meant to them. Absolutely.
03:46And your friend. It's been astonishing. Yeah. Well, really beautiful. Thank you all for being here.
03:50We had a little New Orleans party this morning. Always appreciate you guys coming in.
