00:00What I love most about being a designer is feeling like I can do anything.
00:07Sewing is my life. I can't imagine not doing this.
00:12I have talent. I am a force to be reckoned with.
00:20I know who I am and I know what I want to make.
00:23I'm ready for this.
00:24I'm a designer that is different.
00:26That's something that the fashion world needs to see.
00:29I have to win. It would change so much for me.
00:34In this competition, sometimes you're in and sometimes you're out.
00:40Let's go. I'm ready.
00:51I'm so excited. Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to do Project Linway and now I'm here.
00:57Oh my gosh. Wow.
01:01I am lost for words right now. I am here for a reason. I have it in me. I feel like I could win this.
01:10This is crazy.
01:11Oh my God. Like this is real. I made it to Project Runway Canada. I'm doing this for my people.
01:21A little feather.
01:22A little feather. A little feather. That's so beautiful. I'm Charles.
01:25I'm the only Quebecois here and I feel kind of great. I love to present the Quebec people.
01:32They will miss me. I love it. I love it.
01:35This is surreal. It just feels like I'm waiting for somebody to be like, psych, you know, something.
01:41Wait, you're Charles, right?
01:43Charles is a desire that is pretty much known here in Toronto. So to see him, I'm a bit worried for myself.
01:49You're a huge competition.
01:53What's happening?
01:55Oh my God.
01:57Someone important is coming out of that plane.
02:00Oh my God.
02:05Oh my God.
02:07Coco Rocha.
02:09Oh my God.
02:10Coco looks so fabulous. She just exudes a confident energy. I just hope I can dress her one day.
02:19Oh my goodness.
02:21Welcome to Project Runway Canada, designers.
02:26This is such a big moment for all of you. But don't forget, only one of you will be named Canada's next great fashion designer.
02:34Want to know what you're competing for?
02:36Yes.
02:37A feature spread in Elle Canada magazine.
02:42And from TD, a career launching investment of $100,000.
02:52That's insane.
02:54But I'm not the only one joining you on this ride.
02:56Okay.
02:58She's a celebrated designer, author, activist, and industry visionary.
03:03Your mentor, Aurora James.
03:07Aurora is incredible. She's had a huge impact on the fashion world. It's so inspiring.
03:13We love you.
03:15I am so honored to be your mentor.
03:19Are you ready to hear about your first challenge?
03:22Yes!
03:24Well, designers, I've come with some baggage.
03:26Oh!
03:27What's happening?
03:28I am nervous.
03:30Are we using other people's clothes?
03:33Please step up and claim one.
03:36Open them up and take a look!
03:38I'm nervous for them.
03:40Oh my God!
03:42Denim!
03:44Yes!
03:45I'm very excited.
03:46I like working with denim because I'm the master of upcycling.
03:50I have my own design brand. It is called Obnoxious.
03:53Everything I do is denim. Everything.
03:55Denim is not the easiest material to work with.
03:59It's thick, it's bulky, so this is a challenge.
04:03Den-um?
04:05The Canadian tuxedo used to be a punchline, but now it's no joke.
04:10Fashion houses like Louis Vuitton and Chanel have elevated this iconic look.
04:15Giving denim on denim its moment on the runway time and time again.
04:20For your first challenge, we want you to create a high fashion, runway ready, all denim look.
04:26From her.
04:28And you'll find everything else you need in the workroom.
04:30Your model cards can be found inside your suitcases.
04:32This is a two-day challenge and your one shot to make a killer first impression.
04:38It's your chance to show me and the judges exactly who you are as a designer with a look that is authentically you.
04:45There's a lot of pressure to reflect my aesthetic out of denim. It's going to be really, really tough.
04:51All right, you have 30 minutes to sketch your ideas and I'll meet you in the workroom later.
04:55And the next time I see you, it will be on the other runway.
04:58Ooh!
05:00Designers, your 30 minutes starts now.
05:03Woo! Okay.
05:05Here you go.
05:07Hello.
05:10Hello.
05:12This is going to be fun.
05:14Is your model a man or a woman?
05:16I believe they're non-binary.
05:17I always try to design with the queer community in mind.
05:21I identify as non-binary as well.
05:23So for this challenge, I'm doing this whole gender bendy moment with this pointed halter neck corset, dramatic hip peignets and we might get a little sailor hat out of me.
05:33Do you work with denim a lot?
05:34Actually, yeah, my brand is a denim based brand.
05:39I started my brand two years ago.
05:41It's called Maison Prix Fontaine.
05:43Each day of my life, I'm touching denim.
05:46So I'm thinking a maxi gown with a lot of colors to create a big ombre effect.
05:53I'm super confident.
05:55I'm terrified.
05:57I don't do menswear.
05:59Oh, my God.
06:01I have been a designer for 10 years.
06:05I'm a really big jacket designer.
06:08So I'm making a military jacket and some pants.
06:14I'm good at pants, but these are men's pants.
06:18It's so out of my comfort zone.
06:20You kill it.
06:22I feel like all my ideas are on this paper and I need this taken away from me before I overthink.
06:27I think I'm set.
06:29Time's up.
06:30Let's go to the workroom.
06:33What did you pack for our trip?
06:35Denim.
06:37Let's get it.
06:41At stake for the winner from TD, a career launching investment of $100,000 and a feature in Elle Canada magazine.
06:49With global supermodel Coco Rocha.
06:53Fashion designer Spencer Badu.
06:55Creative director Aurora James.
06:58And legendary fashion journalist Jeanne Becker.
07:02This is Project Runway Canada.
07:04Oh, my God.
07:05Oh, my God.
07:06Okay.
07:07It is hitting me that I'm on Project Runway Canada.
07:08Seeing the space, I'm like, oh, my God, I'm here.
07:10Where's my spot?
07:11Oh, I'm right there.
07:12Curtis, you're here.
07:14Are we table besties?
07:15This is gonna be fun.
07:16Yes.
07:17I'm going through all of my denim right now.
07:18I'm kind of freaking out because I don't even know if I have enough to fit the model.
07:20Do you have a white that you're willing to give up?
07:21I kind of need the white.
07:22Ooh.
07:23Yeah.
07:24Do you have a gray?
07:25I'll take a gray.
07:26I'll take a gray.
07:27This is a gray.
07:28I don't even know if I have enough to fit the model.
07:29Do you have a white that you're willing to give up?
07:30I kind of need the white.
07:31Ooh.
07:32Yeah.
07:33Do you have a gray?
07:34I'll take a gray.
07:35There's a giant risk with my design because I'm gonna be shredding the denim and I don't
07:38know if I'm going to finish it.
07:39Do you usually do more gowns and stuff?
07:40Oh, no.
07:41I do a combination of everything.
07:42I actually love streetwear.
07:43I've done couture.
07:44I've done streetwear.
07:45I've done streetwear.
07:46I've done couture.
07:47I've done streetwear.
07:48I've done streetwear.
07:49I've done streetwear.
07:50I've done streetwear.
07:51I've done streetwear.
07:52So, I don't even know if I have enough to fit the model.
07:54Do you have a white that you're willing to give up?
07:56I kind of need the white.
07:57Ooh.
07:58Yeah.
07:59Do you have a gray?
08:00I've done couture.
08:01I've done streetwear.
08:02So, I'm making an asymmetrical ombre effect dress.
08:05It's going to go from black to white and everything has to be perfect.
08:10Winning Project Runway Canada would be very validating in the Canadian fashion landscape.
08:16I want to win this whole thing.
08:17I just don't like what I have to do.
08:19Yeah.
08:20And it's just gonna be a lot.
08:21How's it going?
08:22Um, I'm just adding colors.
08:23In my culture, they used to use the red eyebrows from the ptarmigans and they would use it
08:29as trim at the bottom of our garments.
08:31So, that's kind of my thinking behind this.
08:33So, in the Western Arctic, our fashion is very influenced by the fur trade.
08:39Part of what I like to do is taking our traditional materials and using them in new ways.
08:45So, I'm planning to make a cocktail dress that looks very high fashion.
08:50My dream is to do this full time, you know?
08:52I have five children.
08:54I want them to see that this is possible for someone from Dook Dooyuk Dook.
08:59I'm like proof that it's never too late to start chasing your dreams.
09:03Like, you can definitely do it.
09:05Okay.
09:06I'm so a denim girl.
09:07I often wear denim on denim.
09:09I grew up on a farm.
09:10So, this is my challenge.
09:12I'm thinking a slouchy jacket and a matching pant.
09:16I feel like it's going to have to be patchwork.
09:18Patchwork can come off really crafty if it's not perfectly executed.
09:22So, I just have to make sure that it doesn't look like a DIY project.
09:25All right.
09:26Let's start cutting open jeans.
09:30Hi, designers.
09:31Hi.
09:32Hi.
09:33So, this is your very first challenge.
09:37I really want to see what you're up to.
09:43All right, Leland, how's it going?
09:45Oh, wow.
09:46Okay, we're going for it.
09:47Yeah.
09:48This design is definitely in my realm.
09:50I make costumes.
09:52I make costumes every day of my life.
09:54So, I want to do more of a street wear meets Canadian tuxedo.
09:58And I'm adding a very oversized ruched pant and this deconstructed coat with this little corset.
10:05This is our first challenge.
10:07So, I want to show technical skill and the camp and the fun of fashion.
10:11You can make something fun, but high fashion means it's also art.
10:15Yes, of course.
10:17So, I pretty much started designing around two years ago.
10:20Self-taught?
10:21Yeah, self-taught.
10:22My aesthetic has a lot of punk rock vibe to it.
10:26You'll see me using vinyls, leather.
10:29So, I want to create a two-piece garment for a rebel, like a good girl gone bad.
10:34Let's see how it goes.
10:35Hi, Naomi.
10:36Hey, girl.
10:37How's it going?
10:38I'm losing my mind.
10:39You are?
10:40Yeah.
10:41Why?
10:42I feel like I'm really in my head.
10:43I haven't even been graduated for a year yet from fashion school.
10:46Don't let that hold you back.
10:48I never graduated fashion school.
10:50Okay.
10:51I'm really excited to see what's going on.
10:53I have a little bolero moment.
10:55Okay.
10:56And a jellyfish denim skirt with lots of chunks of denim coming down.
11:00And I'm kind of debating the top.
11:03Which one's giving you the most high fashion?
11:06This one.
11:07The bra top?
11:09Yeah.
11:10Okay.
11:11Which one's giving you the most high fashion?
11:14I don't know.
11:15I feel like maybe it hasn't been drawn yet.
11:17I think you have to, like, pare it back a little bit.
11:23Maybe what I'm making isn't high fashion.
11:26Maybe I'm going in the wrong direction.
11:27I've wasted so much time.
11:29I don't know what I'm doing yet, and I don't even know where to start.
11:32What is yours?
11:37I'll show it to you, but you can't laugh.
11:39Okay.
11:40I don't know.
11:42I'm hoping my designs don't look like my drawing.
11:45I wanted to bring an elegant twist to denim, so I'm making a flowy denim train dress.
11:51Denim's not giving me flowy.
11:53No, but it will give you a train.
11:55Okay.
11:56I think.
11:57Where is all this self-doubt coming from?
12:00Because I'm sure.
12:01Well, it sounds super high fashion to me.
12:03Yeah.
12:04That's what's most important.
12:06Ah.
12:07I'm bleeding.
12:08Oh, no.
12:09Are you okay?
12:10Just a little pin moment.
12:11Not great for my white fabric.
12:13I was very lucky to get these white jeans because I want to create the look of a classic tuxedo
12:19shirt, and I want to do a skirt.
12:22I think my design philosophy is a bit different because I am self-taught.
12:27I actually did a science degree, and I wrote the MCAT, and I applied to medical school,
12:32but I'm here to prove that I can do this.
12:35Whew.
12:36Okay.
12:37That's not right.
12:38Something didn't go according to plan here.
12:39I need to figure out what it is.
12:40With this design, I want it to look high fashion.
12:41So I am creating a strapless dress with a plunging peak neckline and a floral applique motif.
12:56My concern is that the judges might feel like I didn't push myself enough.
13:01Pushing yourself within this context isn't always about the most work.
13:07Mm-hmm.
13:08It's about the most beautifully executed vision.
13:12Mm-hmm.
13:13Okay.
13:15I'm impressed with some of what I'm seeing, but there's only an hour left tonight.
13:20Get on it.
13:21Awesome.
13:22Thank you, Aurora.
13:24Bye, Aurora.
13:25Okay.
13:26I'm gonna go sew these and hope for the best.
13:28So close.
13:29I'm in love with this machine.
13:32Okay, my jeans are done.
13:34Yeah.
13:35I'm looking around and I'm seeing other designers at the machine sewing already.
13:40And I'm a little bit nervous because I haven't started any of my actual sewing yet.
13:44There's no time for this.
13:46So I'm thinking maybe I'll just create a tunic dress.
13:48I'll probably have to utilize all of tomorrow to sew it together.
13:51So I'm just making fabric right now.
13:53Yo.
13:58That looks good.
13:59I'm almost wondering if it needs the overpiece.
14:01Like, do I want to put more work for myself?
14:03I think it needs it.
14:06I'm overwhelmed.
14:07Usually, this is something that would take me weeks to finish.
14:14Two days?
14:15I have a lot to do and I'm hoping that I have enough time.
14:18This is hard.
14:21That's it for today.
14:23It's time to go home.
14:24Hell yeah.
14:33Good morning, sunshine.
14:36Let's do it.
14:37Straight to the machine.
14:39I know what I'm doing today.
14:41I'm doing the skirt as a short.
14:43Yesterday, I knew that I had to start from scratch.
14:47So now, I need to go with what I think is high fashion.
14:52I'm trying to decide how much ass I want to show.
14:55This is looking so good.
14:59But I feel terrified that the biggest challenge in my life is going to be presented to Jeannie Becker.
15:11Hey, everyone.
15:13Hey.
15:15The models are going to be here soon.
15:17I'm not sweating.
15:18I'm not sweating at all.
15:21Hi, Curtis.
15:22Hello.
15:23How's it going?
15:24This is a pannier in progress.
15:25I'm creating a whole universe with this look.
15:27I'm really inspired by historical silhouettes, like 17th century hip panniers and bringing them into the modern fashion world.
15:34This is looking great.
15:35Just keep in mind, we want a chic first impression.
15:44Oh, I just ripped .
15:46I'm seeing a nude body form.
15:49The models are going to be here soon.
15:52I feel like it's sewing time.
15:53Yes, it is.
15:54So I'm just kind of panicked.
15:58The individual pieces are all stitched up.
16:00Yes.
16:01I just have to put the bigger pieces together.
16:03I will hopefully have something for the models to try on.
16:05I'm scared.
16:06First impressions sometimes can either make or break you.
16:10I hope that the judges can see my personal take on what elegant is.
16:15I'm just nervous.
16:16I don't have the time to do that.
16:23The corset is going to be good.
16:24I think my secret weapon is my speed.
16:28I've been doing this for so long that I don't second guess myself.
16:33Like, that's gorgeous.
16:35I am half Chinese, half Scottish, and my Chinese family immigrated here in the 50s and opened up a dry cleaner that is still there to this day.
16:43They're still working it.
16:44They have such a strong work ethic.
16:46That's kind of always been instilled in me.
16:48Oh my God.
16:49So cool.
16:51That looks amazing.
16:54To be surrounded by such talented designers is intimidating.
16:58I feel like I'm going to throw up.
17:03I just don't think that it will work as like a short.
17:08I don't know what to do with my design.
17:10I have a million ideas going on in my head, but I have all of this beautiful patchwork denim.
17:16So I'm going to sew it together and I'll figure it out.
17:20I just need to trust the process.
17:26Hi little feather.
17:27Hi.
17:28So what else are we doing here?
17:32We're making it deadly.
17:36Okay.
17:37Right now what I'm seeing is like a jacket that was a jacket that still looks like a jacket.
17:42And similarly the pant.
17:44I'm not really focused on the pants.
17:48The judges are going to be looking also at the pants.
17:50Yeah.
17:51Because what I don't want is for them to look at this and be like,
17:54this is the jacket that they gave her and she only just added a collar.
17:58It's like, did she do anything?
18:00Then that means it's like factory ready in my eyes.
18:03Factory ready.
18:04Yes.
18:05We need runway ready.
18:07All right.
18:14Like I missed it.
18:15I missed the boat.
18:16You know?
18:17I feel like she's correct.
18:20That's why it hurts so much.
18:21I just have no choice but to take deep breaths and remember why I'm here for the runway.
18:28And it's like, wait a minute.
18:29You're on freaking project runway.
18:30And you got to be ready for the runway.
18:31You okay?
18:32I'm good.
18:33All good.
18:34The vision is coming to life.
18:35Oh my God.
18:36I know.
18:37Oh, I missed it.
18:38I missed it.
18:39I missed it.
18:40I missed it.
18:41I missed it.
18:42I missed it.
18:43I missed it.
18:44I missed it so much.
18:45I missed it so much.
18:46I just have no choice but to take deep breaths and remember why I'm here for the runway.
18:51And it's like, wait a minute.
18:52You're on freaking project runway.
18:53And you got to be ready for the runway.
18:55You okay?
18:56I'm good.
18:57All good.
18:58The vision is coming to life.
19:00Oh my God.
19:01I know.
19:02I messed up.
19:03How?
19:04Wrong side?
19:05Yeah.
19:06When I was patching the train fabric together, I didn't flip it the other way.
19:12I made a one skirt just facing one side and it's not right.
19:16I'm just going to make a full round circle skirt instead of a train.
19:19Screw it.
19:20Oh my goodness.
19:21I'll make it work.
19:23I think I need a model.
19:26All right.
19:27Come on in.
19:28Models.
19:29I'm just adding the finishing stitches to the skirt and then I want to fit you in quickly.
19:42Yes.
19:43Are you okay?
19:44You're surviving.
19:45You guys have 45 minutes.
19:48Make the most of it.
19:50The pressure is on.
19:51Good.
19:52I'm actually very impressed with how this fits you.
19:54Okay.
19:55Oh, yes.
19:56The dress looks amazing.
19:58It fits her like a glove.
20:00The fit is perfect.
20:01So now I just have to add the flowers in denim.
20:04How long is this going to take?
20:06A few hours.
20:07I just want you to be mindful of not having too many ideas.
20:13Focus on getting the dress really elegant.
20:18Yeah.
20:19It looks really cool.
20:20Do something with your arm.
20:21Yeah.
20:22There we go.
20:23Oh, wow.
20:24Yeah.
20:25It looks great.
20:26I'm super happy.
20:27My jacket is coming together.
20:28I love the pockets on the side.
20:30Now I have to put the grommets on the collar.
20:33I really love it.
20:34I love it.
20:35Oh my God.
20:36This is so good.
20:38I'm so happy.
20:40I just worked so fast.
20:42You really don't have room to make mistakes here,
20:44and you have to take a gamble and hope it pays off.
20:47Oh my God.
20:48I love it.
20:49Let me see from afar.
20:50Yes.
20:51My model is looking amazing in this outfit.
20:53I still have things to finish,
20:55but this is an introduction to me.
20:57It needs to look flawless, and I think I can do that.
21:00All right.
21:01Let's get you changed off.
21:03Designers, the fitting is officially over.
21:05Models, I need you guys out.
21:08Goodbye.
21:09See you tomorrow.
21:10Bye.
21:11First runway show is tomorrow.
21:15So stay focused and get it done.
21:19Good night.
21:21Yeah, I know we've got work to do.
21:26It looks like it's almost there, but I still have to hand sew it.
21:29It's my first runway tomorrow, and I do not want to be the first one to go home.
21:33So I'm hoping tomorrow I have enough time to polish everything up.
21:37All righty, folks.
21:39Time to wrap it up.
21:40Brilliant day, guys.
21:49All right, let's get it.
21:50Let's go runway two!
21:52Let's get started.
21:54It's the first runway of the entire competition.
21:59I'm feeling very secure.
22:01I just need to press the out of this dress.
22:04I need to distress the out of the hem.
22:06So I feel like I'm in a really great spot.
22:08Hey, designers.
22:09It is your very first runway dance.
22:13Let's get your models in here.
22:14Look how good they look from the front.
22:15Great work, baby.
22:16We're going to eat up.
22:17Designers, you have 30 minutes for your final fittings.
22:21The model is here, and I am nowhere near ready.
22:26I have to use half of my fitting time to sew this denim floral applique.
22:31It took forever.
22:32Has this been on the model yet this morning?
22:33Not yet.
22:34I'm going to fit her now.
22:35I've got so much to do.
22:36The hem has to be done.
22:37Do you think I should leave it raw?
22:38No.
22:39I would work on perfecting it.
22:40Even if the judges come close to it, we don't want them to be like,
22:43and to sew this denim floral applique.
22:46It took forever.
22:47Has this been on the model yet this morning?
22:49Not yet, I'm going to fit her now.
22:50I've got so much to do.
22:51The hem has to be done.
22:53Do you think I should leave it raw?
22:55No, I would work on perfecting it.
22:57Even if the judges come close to it,
22:59we don't want them to be like,
23:00ah, I want some of it.
23:05I am not ready.
23:06Sorry, girl.
23:08You're stuck with this kind of designer.
23:10I still have the zipper to put together.
23:12I still have the hem to do.
23:14I'm nervous as hell,
23:15because I don't have something finished.
23:17I took the zipper off to fix it.
23:19Wow, okay, we've got to close it up
23:21and we've got to get this chalk up
23:22because you have literally 10 minutes.
23:24Okay, get up.
23:25Get up, get up, get up.
23:26Hold on, hold on.
23:29Now turn to me.
23:31All right, designers, it's time to bring your models
23:33to the L'Oreal Paris Glam Room.
23:39So the whole idea is she's a good girl gone bad.
23:42So I mainly wanted a hair up.
23:47So for hair and makeup, I'm thinking we go 1920s Glam.
23:50My staple product in my kit is the Panorama Mascara.
23:54It's going to fan out your lashes,
23:56giving you corner-to-corner volume.
23:58The eyes are going to look bigger and lifted.
24:03Let's go to the runway.
24:04Let's do this.
24:06It looks so good.
24:08All right, you're fraying the bottom?
24:12Yeah, I'm trying to.
24:14I feel like you're last minute trying to do something
24:17that you don't need to do.
24:19Last looks, everyone.
24:20Oh, .
24:21Just went right through.
24:23Okay, we're good.
24:25All right, designers, let's go.
24:29The model has a dress.
24:30I'm hoping that I'm at least safe.
24:33Let's get to the runway.
24:34Wish me luck.
24:35Yes.
24:36Yes.
24:37Yes.
24:38Yes.
24:39Hello, designers.
24:40Hi.
24:41Hi.
24:42Welcome to your first runway.
24:43Yeah.
24:44Woo!
24:45Tonight, first impressions are everything.
24:48Your challenge will be the first runway.
24:50Yes.
24:51Yes.
24:52Yes.
24:53Hello, designers.
24:54Hi.
24:55Hi.
24:56Welcome to your first runway.
24:57Yeah.
24:58Woo!
24:59Woo!
25:00Tonight, first impressions are everything.
25:03Your challenge was to create a high fashion,
25:06all denim look that reflects your design DNA.
25:10We want to see your designer jeans.
25:13There are 12 of you now, but after tonight,
25:17only 11 will continue on in the competition.
25:22It's time to meet your judges.
25:24Fashion designer, Spencer Badu.
25:27Woo!
25:28Hey, designers.
25:30Journalist and fashion television legend, the Jeanne Becker.
25:35Woo!
25:36Woo!
25:37Hey, everybody.
25:38Hi.
25:39Great to see you all.
25:40And our special guest judge, he's dressed Viola Davis,
25:45Michelle Obama, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
25:48Whoa.
25:49Please welcome designer Jason Wu.
25:51Hi, designers.
25:52Woo!
25:53Woo!
25:56We'll be scoring your designs as they come down the runway.
25:59Let's start the show.
26:04Wow.
26:05Yeah.
26:12So good.
26:13I have full body chills.
26:16The fit is fitting.
26:18The hat is sitting.
26:19This is a completely authentic expression of my experience
26:22as being a non-binary individual.
26:28I'm not used to making menswear at all,
26:30but this garment definitely represents my aesthetic,
26:33especially with the D-rings and the harnesses.
26:36It's so good, dude.
26:38I've really honed in on what my style is,
26:40and that's just rock and roll.
26:42I'm super proud.
26:47This look is powerful.
26:50The collar is sharp.
26:52I feel like it all came together.
27:00I'm just so obsessed with my look.
27:02The ombre, the colors are working,
27:05the shape is working.
27:07It's a really proud moment.
27:09Anxiety is just through the roof.
27:12All I see is the imperfections,
27:15but the flow, the elegance.
27:18This is a definition of who I am as a designer.
27:21I just hope they see the beauty in what I made.
27:26I just hope they see the beauty in what I made.
27:36My look is elegant.
27:38It's timeless.
27:39It's sophisticated.
27:41But did I do enough?
27:43I have some doubts.
27:49Oh.
27:50Oh, yes.
27:51Yes.
27:52I am super proud of what I've created.
27:54This is very representative of who I am as a designer.
27:57With this look, I'm really trying to prove that I am one of the top competitors.
28:02You did that.
28:03You did that.
28:04It's amazing seeing my look come down the runway.
28:09This look screams Maya in every way.
28:13It plays with masculinity, femininity, historical references.
28:20I love it.
28:22I want to show the judges that my culture influences my fashion, but it can also be high fashion for the runway.
28:34The hood is a cultural design feature I learned from my great-grandmother.
28:41I hope they see something in my design.
28:48Oh.
28:49That corset looks so good on her.
28:52It's so snatched.
28:53It literally is hitting her in all the right places.
28:56And then the pants match perfectly.
29:01Head to toe denim.
29:02Canadian tuxedo to the max.
29:04I have come so far with this design.
29:11I made multiple garments.
29:13I have come back from the trenches and I produced something that I am proud of.
29:20My blood is draining from my body.
29:26Ooh.
29:27I love it.
29:29I've never seen a look like this before.
29:31I painted with fabric and I feel like I'm showing all of my technical skills that I've amassed through decades of fashion.
29:37How the f*** do that?
29:47This looks really good.
29:50Designers, please step up to the runway.
29:57Tonight, some of your looks spoke volumes, while others barely whispered.
30:06When I call your name, please step forward.
30:11Rome.
30:14Littlefeather.
30:16Charles.
30:19Cat.
30:21Dalarumic.
30:24And...
30:25Delaine.
30:28If I called your name, you are in and can leave the runway.
30:33Congratulations.
30:41Sorry.
30:45What a relief.
30:47That means the six of you make up the highest and the lowest scores.
30:52One of you will be our winner and one of you will be out.
30:56So let's look at one of our faves of the night.
31:04Thank the Lord.
31:06Oh my God.
31:08Curtis, I got flight attendant vibes out of this.
31:10I was looking at a lot of denim and it took me to a super masculine, tough work wear type area, which then drew my mind to flip that completely on its head.
31:23This is an amazing representation of exactly what my designs are all about.
31:27Congratulations.
31:28I really loved this.
31:30The structure, the style.
31:32This is truly couture worthy and you really did elevate denim to new heights.
31:39I couldn't even tell it was denim.
31:40This was a great piece.
31:42I think it really shows who you are as a designer.
31:45My only critique was the neckline at the back.
31:47It did feel a bit loose.
31:48I would just tighten that up.
31:50The hat looks good.
31:51A lot of times people ruin their looks.
31:53It's like that one accessory.
31:54You know, so I thought that was really nice.
31:56Nicely done.
31:57Thank you, Curtis.
31:58Great job.
32:00And now let's see one of our least favorite looks of the night.
32:07The bottom.
32:08Foster, you brought flowers to the denim challenge.
32:11High fashion to me is simplicity and also timelessness.
32:15And I wanted to show the delicate side of denim by using a floral motif.
32:21I always appreciate the charm of a great applique.
32:26But I didn't understand why you decided to go for an unfinished hem.
32:31The top seems very sophisticated, so detailed.
32:34And then at the bottom, that's an undone edge.
32:37I think it's just too many ideas in one dress.
32:40The biggest issue would be the fit.
32:41I just don't think it was flattering.
32:43Thank you, Foster.
32:45I don't know. I love his piece.
32:47Let's bring out another one of our favorite looks.
32:51Maya, you gave us a new romantic moment.
32:58Walk us through it.
32:59The Canadian tuxedo, to me, comes from that history of Canadian frontier
33:03and people needing really strong, durable materials to be able to survive.
33:07I wanted to bring that to the elevation of a night out.
33:12I want that jacket. I want the look. Let's put it on my body now.
33:15The jacket was really nice. I like the cusset.
33:17It is a nice way to bring softness into denim.
33:22My only critique is I don't think the bag was necessary.
33:24Did you make the bag?
33:25No, I did not make the bag.
33:27Sometimes when you design, you just kind of have to edit.
33:30The bag, to me, gave this outfit another level of story.
33:34I think that's one of the biggest compliments an outfit can get.
33:39Thanks, Maya.
33:41This next look was one of our least favorites.
33:49Oh, no.
33:50Namo, you kept this look pretty simple.
33:56It's an expression of myself, which is simplicity and elegance.
34:00And I also like flowy things.
34:03I just really felt that you weren't pushing it enough.
34:06What's new here?
34:07This is a look that I've seen a gazillion times.
34:11I'm all for a simple dress, but when you do simple, it has to be perfect.
34:15And this was not.
34:16The corset isn't as impeccable as some of your peers.
34:20Yeah, initially when I saw the look, it felt really safe.
34:23I didn't really feel like you came through in this dress.
34:25I would have loved to see a bit more risk-taking.
34:28You are subtle. You are quiet. So maybe this is you.
34:32Like I do do more couture detailed work.
34:36Give me that, Namo.
34:38Thank you, Namo.
34:41And our final favorite look of the night.
34:46Yay!
34:48Leland, tell us how you brought so many elements together here.
34:52So one thing I really wanted to do was incorporate the light acid wash and really go for a fashion moment here.
34:59It made me giddy.
35:01I felt this was the Britney Spears Mad Max moment.
35:05That deconstructive sort of cape, it looked quite gorgeous.
35:08When I saw it come down the runway, I noticed the shoes and I was like, whoa, this is like a whole look.
35:12So for a first impression, I'm really excited to see what we have in store.
35:16Well, it's a wow. No question. The corset is perfection.
35:20One critique I would have is I think the pants are a little over ruched, but it's hard to do messy. And I think you've done a really good job.
35:30Thank you, Leland.
35:32And our final lowest score.
35:37But she's a 10.
35:38She is a 10.
35:40Hi.
35:41So Naomi, patchwork and a belarue. Interesting combo. Let's walk through it.
35:45I prototyped multiple things and I wasted hours. And when I finally decided what I wanted to do, I didn't quite have the time to execute it the way I'd like to.
35:56To me, I see two different personalities here. I think the little bolero jacket shows some promise. The dress is where you fall short. I think this was maybe overly ambitious. And right now, I don't really know who you are as a designer.
36:09I think it just seemed a bit confusing. Maybe you have to develop your voice a bit more.
36:14I like the bolero. I thought that worked. A lot of the rest of the dress really fell apart, especially, you know, from the hip down. It just looked like a mess.
36:24The bottom part, it just didn't go with the top. And you've got to give me that storytelling.
36:30Thank you, Naomi.
36:32Thank you so much.
36:35Thank you, designers. You've given us a lot to think about. It's time for some tough decisions. You can leave the runway.
36:50Hello.
36:51Hi.
36:52Hi.
36:53Hi.
36:54Hi.
36:55Hi.
36:56Okay, judges, our top three. Leland, Curtis, and Maya. Who do we think should win?
37:03They're all so good and so promising.
37:05Leland's, it was really nice. I mean, the jacket, cape situation, I mean, that's really impeccably made. And the corset, very clean. Leland was impressive.
37:13Just the sheer amount of things that Leland pumped up. You can really see that he put everything on the table.
37:18Three different pieces that could live on their own, but they actually danced cohesively together.
37:24Maya.
37:25Look, I loved this look. There was so much compelling storytelling.
37:29Loved it. I really understood the world that she was creating.
37:33I knew the character. Like, she really delivered in terms of putting an outfit that worked for the model. There's a point of view.
37:42But there's a point of view with Curtis as well. That was a shape that I kind of thought was fantastic.
37:46I mean, the silhouette, the craftsmanship.
37:48Stunning.
37:49Really well executed. Details were amazing.
37:51The little hat, it was meticulous and obviously crafted by someone who really knows what they're doing.
37:58Okay, I think we have our winner. Now, who do we think should be going home?
38:02Naimo, Foster, or Naomi? Let's start with Naimo.
38:07It really just looked like a black dress. I didn't feel like there was a sense of innovation.
38:12I mean, if you're going to give me a black dress, it better be impeccable.
38:15Yeah.
38:16And it was not. It was messy.
38:17She's just the one that just seems to fall to the back. And I know it's not about attitude, but there is something about attitude.
38:24Well, there is.
38:25And you can see the attitude in Naomi's clothing. I like the bolero. I thought it was kind of cute.
38:30Yeah, the bolero was the best part of the dress.
38:32The best part. Put the end.
38:34It's really a question of a lack of design sophistication. I think that's Naomi's problem.
38:41And I do think Foster already has that design sophistication.
38:45But, you know, like that dress was terrible. It didn't fit. The flowers look very crafty, but not in a good way.
38:51In a good way.
38:52I don't know who he is as a designer looking at that dress, but I want to see a little bit more.
38:56The raw hem, I would have loved to see it, you know, cleaned, maybe a bit of a blind hem or...
39:01Blind hem wasn't going to help that dress, let's face it.
39:03It looks like we made our decision.
39:15Curtis, Maya, and Leland, you've established yourselves as the ones to watch in this competition.
39:23But, there can only be one winner. The winning designer is... Leland.
39:35Hey!
39:36Oh!
39:37His buttons are popping!
39:38Yeah!
39:39Oh!
39:40I can't believe I won.
39:41Like, what?
39:42I'm happy that I've really showcased myself and, like, my art.
39:44Thank you, thank you.
39:45Oh my God.
39:46That means, Curtis and Maya, you are also in. The three of you can leave the runway.
39:48Thank you all. Congratulations.
39:50Congratulations.
39:51We have a winner.
39:52Thank you!
39:53Thank you!
39:54That's so good. I'm so proud of you, honey. I told you.
39:57Naimo, Foster, and Naomi. Unfortunately, one of you will be out.
40:20Foster, you are in. You can leave the runway.
40:30Thank you so much.
40:35It all comes down to this.
40:39Naomi, you're all denim distressed us and not in the right way.
40:49I'm sorry, but you are out.
40:52Oh.
40:55Oh my God.
40:56No, you deserve this.
40:58Naimo, you're still in. You can leave the runway. Thank you.
41:02I'm just honestly glad to be here. I met amazing people.
41:05I'm very motivated and I know I have a very bright future ahead of me.
41:09I agree.
41:10You're gonna kill it.
41:11Thanks, guys.
41:12Bye.
41:13Bye.
41:14We'll kill it.
41:16Take care.
41:17Bye.
41:18Take care of my posts.
41:19Yes.
41:20Go, queen.
41:21Love.
41:22Mm.
41:23Uh-oh.
41:24Here she's coming.
41:27It was so lovely to be amongst all of you.
41:30This experience would not have been the same without you.
41:33Hi, guys.
41:34Aurora.
41:35I'm really proud of you.
41:37You have a lot of creativity.
41:39You have a lot of courage.
41:40Can I get a hug?
41:41Yes.
41:42Yes.
41:43I think I've grown way more than I expected to grow.
41:48This experience was overwhelming and I let my mind get the best of me.
41:54But this is just the beginning for me.
41:56Maybe I'll be back.
41:59Next time on Project Runway Canada.
42:04I'm pairing you up with content creators for your very first real client challenge.
42:09Oh, my God.
42:10It's a client challenge.
42:12This week is about showing them what we got.
42:15Oh.
42:16I want to see lots of glamour tomorrow.
42:18At the end of the day, it's about keeping the client happy.
42:22I'm just like not seeing the vision here yet.
42:27It looks like something my mom would wear.
42:29So what are we going to do?
42:30We need a plan.
42:31I need to think.
42:32Let me think.
